Parachute Jump Overview
The ride featured twelves pairs of canvas seats, suspended by cables from the tower, with a parachute avobe the seats. Riders were hoisted to the top, then allowed to fall, with the parachute opening to slow their decent, and shock absorbers on the cable to bring the seats to a gentler stop. The ride originally opened for the New York world fair, and last operated in 1964. It is now listed as a landmark on the US National Register of Historic Places, and stands as a static, illuminated landmark on the Coney Island boardwalk.
