B&M of some sort. Lap restraint. A cross between Swarm and Oblivion.3 points

I am still confused by the Mick Doohan connection, are we joining him to fight aliens? This sounds a hell of a lot like what The New Revolution has and if it is the same/similar I am sorry but compared to what Movie World are doing with Arkham it will definitely have the view that @AlexB has made of being a half assed attempt. I personally think the idea of a motogp themed VR of you racing other riders on a track would have been a much better choice. I know I would be more likely to try that.3 points
-
Yes, Sadly it seems the Mick Doohan connection will remain, and i'm disappointed they've chosen what I imagine is a generic off the shelf VR system. I'm sure that the alien invasion VR is designed to fit onto any coaster and it just modifies the turns and twists to suit the ride it is on - so this won't be the only park in the world you can experience it. I think its a greatly missed opportunity that they did not theme the VR to motorcycles, but of course that would have meant designing the VR experience from the ground up - and when your competitor is just about the launch a similar experience, one does have to get it out as quickly or risk getting left behind. I'm not suggesting they're copying MW - i'm sure both parks have been working on these VR projects for some time, but like with most other things in both parks, comparisons will be made, and DW will once again be considered to have pulled it off half assed: Jet Rescue vs. MDMC Aqualoop vs. Wedgie etc.3 points

To me it sounds like the best implementation of VR I've yet seen/heard of.3 points

Did they just screw up the ambiguous theming in that section of the park even more...?2 points

So, to summarize; if you feel like the park does or might do something exceptional for you then you're probably going to be more inclined to do what they say as a quid pro quo, in much the same way as many blogs/websites/journalists may choose to run a puff piece on an advertiser/sponsor or turn a blind eye to their transgressions. If, on the other hand, your interest is purely the hobby or the parks don't do anything special for you, then you're more likely to be focused on getting the story/picture since you have no masters to please. Yeah the same ride operator who told us it would be $5 per use also said the same thing about fast track passes containing a VR experience. @Zanstabar really hit the nail on the head with the description of the ride too, it was nice to read actually because it took me back to parts I hadn't remembered, having only tried once with VR it was super hard to take all of it in. Im still in awe of it though, cannot wait to be able to give it another spin!1 point

Just watched a documentary on Mack Rides that was shown on tv tonight in Germany. I decided to share it because it got me more pumped for the new coaster under construction. Be warned unless you speak German you will only catch onto a few words. I don’t understand German either but enjoyed the processes into what is required to manufacturer a ride. Being the dill that I am I also got excited with every part they showed thinking, is that the new coaster.1 point

Scapula - that tells me that you weren't holding your arms in the correct position. if they are properly crossed over your chest, your scapula should lay flat against the rest of your back. I couldn't find the link, but this is one of the reasons why body slides require you to cross your arms. I haven't yet attempted to take my little guy on rides, but I fully intend on a visit to guest services before I do. A ride card (DW) or wristband (VRTP) is marked by guest services with the rides a person can \ cannot go on. I would imagine they would do this for small children as well, but I could be wrong - having not attempted to do it myself yet. The band \ card then serves as an indicator to ride ops (especially those who may be inexperienced) of what guest services have determined is appropriate. Of course a ride operator has final say and if they believe the risk is unacceptable they have every right to stop you riding, but i would think these would at least help. The trip would also be beneficial to discover from guest services what rides they allow parent swap on, and how each one of them operates.1 point

@YLFATEEKS thanks for the tip. I do often wonder/worry about this type of thing from attendants, given I'm usually pretty good at looking stuff like that up before I go and would naturally be unhappy to find them making it up as they go. I was actually just checking whether our parks offer 'parent swap' like most in the US seem to. It worked out very well for us at SFMM since we were in a group of four plus the little guy. The thing I found most interesting about it was that in some cases as the first group of us would get off the ride and move to the exit we'd walk the little guy through the coaster car itself to get him to the group now waiting at the exit. It wasn't a problem in the least, but I somehow couldn't have imagined the Aus parks letting us walk him through an area considered part of the ride envelope...1 point

AW have posted another sneak peek of the new theming around the TOT. It actual from the way the photos was taken makes the ride look scary as your heading into a mining tunnel and cannot see a thing. I hope they kept the arrows inside the slide as they are awsome. AW have seemed to have done an Amazing job with Water Mountain. It looks awesome and I can't wait to see it in person. Sadly I am working for the next few weeks (week days and weekends) so I want be able to cheek it out for a while. Hopefully someone can gets some photos. AW have really proven first with Kraken and now with Water Mountain that it is very very possible to theme water slides. "Cough" Wet N Wild WWW "cough" I think AW have basically since 2010 re-themed the entire park. I can't think of an area that has not been themed. I think they will most likely focus on the animal area or adding to existing areas (IE Nautical land with the other waterslides.) in future none MI years. But anyway well done @Mark Shaw and your team for making AW an AWsome and immersive theme park and I can't wait till I can come again and see these changes.1 point

The containers are the structure that the blue screen sits on for filming in the pool obviously a differently location, but shows how the containers are used when POTC was filming on the coast last year1 point

A lot of audio in the area today including roaring/growling coming from Doomsday himself!1 point

Considering you are riding Arkham Asylum: Shock Therapy I think they would have been nuts to have themed the starting point to anything but - especially with all the station themed that way, and the audio of Joker and Harley talking about how the shock therapy was about to begin.1 point

Hi, welcome to May. Also I lie, I wouldn't find a spot to eat as I'd then lose it going to collect my food. I'd simply walk to the store from where ever I was when I made the order.1 point

OK, I'm just going to write the update here because I'm confused which thread is which for Dreamworld now. Tiger Island: The injured lady is making a good recovery and Dreamworld are looking into the surface to see if it can be improved in any way, so expect to see some minor changes there. The area is set for completion by the end of November 2016. Wanda: The rumours which popped up and were inflamed by the posting of the photo of Kenny & Belinda on the great wall of China are allegedly just that, rumours. (I say allegedly as you can never be too sure ). They were there on their annual promo tour. They also visit India, Korea, Malaysia and the Middle East, they figured the shot was better than a boring expo hall. DW vs MW: "It's interesting that the group always puts us up against MovieWorld and them against as, as copying each other, but the reality is that there are global Themepark trends that we are always both going to have versions of and then find our own directions." Virtual Reality & the perceived secrecy around DW's happenings: "Well there are reasons for that but it can go either way. MW teased and then had trouble with the tech and it was red/green for a while. We were having the same troubles as it is new tech for us to have match the coaster. We send a few people OS to get some tips since we were doing in house development and waited until we were sure of the tech before saying we would have it. We are sure of the tech but now testing the impact in ride cycles etc. MW got more coverage by going out there which is great and has given us that "you copied" thing, but they will also need to manage the "you said you would etc ect and then you didn't" which can be hard when you are working so hard to get something done. Same desires and same great intention for their guests with a different approach." They are considering the options as far as the cost of VR goes, including the possibility of including it in the "Gold" Ride Express and/or a per-use charge.1 point

Well looks like i'll stop being so tight-lipped and give into peer pressure Maybe my opinion might be a little biased considering this way my first VR coaster ever, but it was an absolute blast. I felt like I was in sensory overload for the next hour or so.1 point

Perhaps just use the spoiler tag to describe the experience? Im not sure what is happening but these forums were once a place to come and share enthusiast scoops or talk about new park developments and experiences. But seems of late they have become more like "hey there is stuff at the park, not going to tell you about it or show you, so go check it out for yourself". I'm not a fan.1 point

Yeah, but with a VR motorbike race you could have crashes etc happening around you, a cameo with Mick Doohan riding up beside you, a more spectacular setting with buildings, tunnels etc.... And of course, the proportions of the curves etc could be increased in the footage to make it feel like actual high speed. Have some imagination mate.1 point

AAAHHHHH every time I come to this topic, people are still talking shit, we have a topic for that. Please guys can you just continue to shower me with your beautiful photos.1 point

Certainly, I like your contribution and don't propose to denigrate your work at all. I understand precisely where you're coming from, and agree that it's your personal call to take photos or not based on whatever criteria you choose - be it arbitrary in the eyes of some, many, all or none. Just as others are free to make the same determination for themselves.1 point

I think it's great. It reminds me of the great alien invasion at the Phillip island Moto GP in 2003. Happy to see such fond memories captured in VR and fits the theme really well.1 point

Ive said this elsewhere and i'll say it again here. If the park doesn't want people taking photos of shit. they cover it up - completely. Weeks ago they had bedsheets and such over the statues - now, nothing but a temporary fence \ hoarding, which is easily shot over \ around. Having been a photographer in a theme park selling licensed photos where people were not allowed to take their own, you make it almost impossible to police. TBH - By having staff 'on and off' trying to stop you taking pictures of various areas, all that does is create animosity - you see someone else take a photo and get away with it, and you want to as well, but then someone tells you you can't, when you clearly saw someone else do it seconds earlier? I think this 'respecting the park's wishes' thing is bullshit. GO back and read my thoughts on the confidentiality thread again if you need to hear it all again, but in short: ANYTHING VISIBLE TO MEMBERS OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC, EVEN IF OVER \ BEHIND A FENCE IS FAIR GAME. If the park came along and asked you not to take pictures of their new rollercoaster until opening day, would you? (Don't say its different because it isn't - its still 'respecting their wishes' - Unfortunately the park doesn't really get to determine whether someone takes a photo of something in a publicly accessible area. In todays modern media world - the picture can be on the internet before the staff member can get close enough to you to tell you to delete it - so if they want privacy - they need to cover their shit. End of story. TPG - You say to Skeet that it's ok that you took photos of the shop, even though you earlier had a video of someone telling you not to do it - yet you're up in arms about someone else posting photos of the back of house area, and point to a video proving that staff are asking people not to take photos of the statues. Did you stop to think perhaps that the same 'loophole' you've used to justify your pictures of the shop is perhaps the same one used by those who took pictures over the fence? #takealookatyourself #getagrip You've shot loads of images over these sorts of fences. But you aren't showing images of the statues over the fences because someone told you (at a PRIVATE TVC SHOOT) that they wanted them kept under wraps, and you think that should now apply to members of the general public who have been freely admitted into an area where you can clearly see whats behind the fence? #FFS1 point

Usually you like to give your marketing people a heads up on things so they can start formulating a marketing strategy. You don't do that overnight. I'll weigh into the debate with my 80 cents. There has been a lot of discussion here about MW vs. DW. TBH - I don't think that is a fair comparison. It has been mentioned that DW offers families more - by having animals, and kids areas and such, and this has been pointed out where MW is lacking - but I don't think many of you realise the model VRTP have going. You cannot compare DW to MW. What you need to do is compare pass to pass. The VIP \ VRTP Membership vs. the World Pass. Both passes get you into all of the relevant company theme park property both offer a waterpark gate both offer high thrills both cater to families both offer various children's branded entertainment and themed areas both have animal experiences Once you broaden the comparison, those few areas where DW is regarded as 'better' suddenly lose a little shine. #MyOpinion1 point

I don't see why people are trying to make other people change their opinion on which park is better. It's an opinion, everyone is entitled to their own, doesn't make it right or wrong.1 point

Hey parks crew, long time forum browser, first time posting. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to share a little about getting to try out the VR on Arkham Assylum this afternoon. Saw @themagician had posted about VR testing this morning so decided to head to the park. Queued for Arkham at about 3:30 and noticed a few MW team riding with VR, decided to ask if we could try it out and we're initially told it would be completely random and couldn't be guaranteed but after queuing for a second time and asking a different team member if we could wait, he happily put us to the side and grabbed us some VR headsets for the next train. This was my very first time using VR and i was completely blown away by how immersive the experience is, it takes a little minute to adjust and can be slightly off putting for a moment but is quite easy to adjust to. The headsets are really comfortable with an adjustable knob at the back and just a simple drawstring under the chin like on a straw hat, didn't have any issues feeling like the headset was going to fall off. As for the ride itself, I won't spoil details unprovoked, but i was completely blown away. The VR experience totally transformed the entire ride, it was light years more intense than the regular ride, I have never EVER screamed on that ride like i did today. There was only one portion of the ride that to me was easily recognisable, i didn't even notice the intense leg crushing restraints at the end of the ride. Overall I would definitely rate this adaptation to the Arkham. We couldn't thank the staff enough for letting us test and they had us fill out some feedback forms afterwards. We were also told that it was looking like it will be $5 per ride, I was happy to hear that. I'd been sceptical on the pay per ride scheme but after riding today i will without a doubt be riding again and will be more than happy to be paying $5.1 point

Not sure if it's considered "all" the effects, but a tombstone comes up out of the ground, saloon doors swing, and a verandah 'breaks' from someone falling off of it. More or less the same as before, although I don't really remember the tombstone bit from before the maintenance. OK, now I'm home I can elaborate a bit more on my experience ? Overall, I really like what has been done to beef up the ride as well. I confess I initially was a little disappointed to still see the absence of some of the original effects previously discussed, especially before the final drop. I don't remember the old TNT barrel with sparks that everyone keeps reminiscing about ? But it sounded awesome, and I was hoping it would make a comeback. That hasn't been the case. However I blame myself for any disappointment on my part, I think I just built my expectations a bit too high throughout the duration the ride was down. That aside, I think the train scene (love what they have done to the track!) and the abundance of TNT on the walls throughout the mountain are definitely the biggest improvements made. I also liked what they did in the first turntable room, one of the walls features a well lit mine shaft of fair depth. From memory it was there before, but all in the dark. It's good to be able to see everything now ?? As @joz mentioned there is still some bugs they need to iron out, the biggest one I could see was the dry final drop (they had the water effects turned off for it) which made it essentially just like a coaster track. I did also notice the lack of usual audio commentary before the backward drop. Either way, it's good to have our good ol' WWF back and I know these issues will undoubtedly get ironed out in the next few days. It's fantastic overall to see it in the best condition it's been in a long time (13 years?) ?❤️1 point

So long as no one broke any rules, did anything stupid or pestered any staff then I don't see the harm in sharing photos of anything and everything. That's pretty much the Parkz policy. I think it all looks really great and any publicity by way of photos on Parkz is only going to help build hype at this point.1 point

@Santa07 HELL NO Yeah i get what your saying! Its just DW hasnt really added anything that is of similar caliber to that of tower of terror and the giant drop since they opened. Haha i mean DW will always have a place in my heart, for taking my theme park and rollercoaster virginity (no homo), and making me discover my love for roller-coasters. Its just they need to up their coaster game!!!-1 points
