  1. ^It sounds like the River Rapids area will be closed for a while. I wonder if they did continue with the ride if they could convert it to an elevator lift or if there's room to create an exit for the ride before the current lift hill.

  2. Moving the unload platform to the bottom of the ride does nothing. Either they fix the problems with the conveyor belt and associated systems and it operates safely, or they don't and there's still a danger of flipping and destroying rafts. There's nothing inherently wrong with a conveyor belt lift hill on this style of ride; plenty use wooden slats too. It doesn't matter what they do: fix the immediate problems and reopen it, vastly re-engineer the ride with completely new systems and build superfluous unload platforms, leave it standing but not operating indefinitely or bulldoze it swiftly. All of these will carry considerably public scrutiny and press interest. If it reopens, the lift could be be a similar conveyor belt, an elevator or Balinese geriatrics... regardless, the ride will carry a stigma with it forever. Industry trends would normally suggest that the logical outcome is that they remove the three closed 30+ year old rides in this area and look to significantly redevelop it with modern attractions. But Dreamworld tend to eschew most industry conventions when it comes to their overall business strategy.

  3. Yeah I'm more of the opinion that you scrap that whole area and start again. Keep Buzzsaw going as is for now, but once you've got a plan for a new area, close it, and re-theme it to a new area. What you put there is what they'd have to be thinking about, but I'd honestly be looking at some sort of whimsical gardens with big open areas for functions, and no thrill rides, maybe the most you could do is a slow train ride around the area. Where would you re-build the rapids? You don't. I reckon it's pretty well over for that type of ride in Australia for a very, very long time.

  4. ^^^ you wrote your comment in a quote box with my name on it. Now I look like the crazy one.. the final night party was a 'day of the dead' party. the theme is probably a little morbid, even if only by name, given what occurred last week. It was the correct decision. The overnighter at Silverwood Lab was no relevance or Perceived to be tasteless, unless there was some tragedy in a laboratory recently I've missed. As for no being fair, nothing about life is fair, nor is it meant to be. If this cancellation is the first of life's little challenges to show you that, then you've had a sweet cruise of ride til this point (and don't call me Buster, I'm not a dog).

  8. That attendant looks asleep, or at least staring into the trees rather than looking at the only boat nearby..

  9. I personally don't believe we'll see TRR operational again. If It was a ride that was recently extensively refurbed, or a newer addition to the park, then potentially they'd look at the recent investment and deem it too valuable or a waste of ROI to close it for good, but neither of those scenarios are true. The ONLY way I could see it reopening would be for basically an entirely new ride to be basically be built using the shell/troughs of TRR. New theme, new name, new boats, and most importantly no conveyor (it would cause WAY too much innuendo/questions/skepticism) or at least no conveyor used with passengers still on board

  10. if it is going to re-open it needs to be redesigned either put an actual belt on the conveyor NO MORE SLATS or as 1werks suggested get the people of the damn thing before you even get near the conveyor. also a new safety measure has to be put in a staff member must be watching this conveyor all the time and if a raft gets stuck they have to run over and kick/push it loose.

  11. It is a very smart idea to make a memorial as I imagine the backlash that would have been a leashed if they did not do this. It is great how they are going to use all the flowers to make it. I wonder if the memorial will be put on the site of the Thunder River Rapids or out the front, or somewhere else around the park. I think they should put it out the front somewhere so some people who want to give their respects to the 4 victims shouldn't have to pay to go do it. That would be totally disgusting if they did.

  15. I was just joking, you've already made an AlexB-length post so your quality seems pretty decent.

  16. @Intimidator305. Bro no matter what ride is being built, (launch, multi launch or hyper) due to the size of the area and how many footings there are, either one of those options is gonna be massive and cost a crap ton anyway.

  17. Sorry, I forgot to remove Delirium from the idea. I'll edit that. I do think that a hyper is the best option and is the only thing that fills the gap Movie World may have. Just trying to keep discussion going.

  18. I get excited for almost anything, and the Final Party was no exception. It sounded like such a good time. It was going to be the highlight of this year's Fright Nights for me. I don't think the cancellation is the wrong move, however. Considering the sensitive subjects that Halloween events seem to dance around with, it makes absolute sense to me that they would cancel in light of the events that transpired this past week. Changes to events have happened previously, and I'm sure it will happen again. Even some of the world's best Halloween events have had to make alterations in light of local, national and even international tragedies. Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights in 2001 had to make an immense amount of changes for their season in light of the September 11 attacks. All references to gore had to be removed, titles had to be changed, and even the marketing icon from that year had to be scrapped all in an effort to appeal to the more sensitive audience of the time. Just a year later, Universal had to retool their original concept for that season as a string of child abductions rendered their original Village of the Dammed-esque child icon to be in bad taste. The Final Party would've been an absolute blast if everything had gone according to plan. It would've been a treat to experience everything that the team would have provided. Unfortunately, it would have to have been a perfect world for that to occur, and reality just isn't perfect; it's flawed. Life is unpredictable, and I commend the VRTP team for knowing when to fold. I would much rather remember Fright Nights 2016 as a relatively mediocre event in the shadow of a national tragedy, than to remember it as "The Year of Public Insensitivity".

  19. I was planning to attend the Final Party, I purchased a ticket a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly I was a little disappointed at first, especially since I had already gone to the extent of purchasing makeup and stuff to dress up on the night with. However in the bigger picture of things, I understand why Movie World have made this decision, and I'm glad they have. Besides the obvious ie. the park openly showing their compassion and respect for this tragedy and it's victims by cancelling, I find it extremely gracious of them to be openly showing their support and uniting together with Dreamworld on this one, given the two parks are usually in direct conflict of interest with each other. They literally pulled their event less than half an hour after Dreamworld did their Screamworld events, so it seemed pretty clear to me that the did it last in response to that. Also, very rarely do you see one park mention or refer to the other so directly by name, so to see that email from Movie World refer to Dreamworld, it personally touched my heart. Honestly, it would have been poor taste anyway for Movie World to go ahead with a "day of the dead" themed special event, given the circumstances. I am sure they would have pulled the plug on the other remaining nights as well, had they not already completely sold out to such large audiences. Had I not already booked a panic room for tomorrow night's Fright Nights, I probably would have chosen to stay home. Nothing against MW, just still mentally stuffed up a bit over the events of Tuesday and my heart is telling me I shouldn't be out having fun at one so soon in respect to the victims. It's probably gonna take me a few days, if not a couple of weeks, at least to recover from this tragedy

  20. While I understand why someone would be upset, I think you should think about what's happened this week and appreciate the respect Movie World is giving. For a party themed to the dead, it certainly isn't appropriate seeing what's happened recently. I commend Movie World for this mature decision, I'm sure they had made many preparations and had to sacrifice them too.

  21. And I congratulate them on this decision... Not just DW, or the GC Theme Park industry, or Parkz enthusiasts or the local public... But parkz around the world are paying attention to the news this week and that is something that definitely needs to be remembered... I was looking last weekend to go to UTT this Friday night for my third and final attendance this year... To me... Now it would just not be / feel right... Guess this is another case of damned if you do / damned if you don't... People are going to be annoyed it has been cancelled as they had prepared to attend, made arrangements, etc... If it went ahead given the main theme is Day of the Dead I'm sure they would cop backlash as well... I am sure they have not made this decision lightly but personally I believe it was the right call to make given the circumstances...

  22. My daughter, best friend and I made the decision to stop by Dreamworld late yesterday afternoon to pay our respects before heading to MW. This was the second visit for me, and I was absolutely overwhelmed with how many more floral and candle tributes have been added by the community in the last couple of days, along with stuffed toys, cards and letters. It made for a beautiful but heartbreaking sunset. The lingering storm in the distance definitely set the bitter-sweet tone of the moment. Will be stopping by again tomorrow, on the request of both my kids whom have expressed an interest in wanting to add tributes of their own there for both families. Such a tragic situation overall. Still can't believe this has actually happened ???

  23. I have tears for all involved. My heart goes out to them. I have vowed to go back to the park after my daughter nearly drowned and staff did nothing even after I was screaming out to them and when I spoke to the park they did not care. I will definitely never go back to the park now.
