^ This I think the problem is that no one who is with VRTP really get what made Sea World a good park when it was at its peak, it was that good mix of attractions the park had. Since they don't get why it's good they can't see the parks potential. It has never been the first choice for thrill rides (nor should it be really), but it traditionally has had a good enough ride collection that those who go to theme parks for rides aren't left disappointed. Now the ride collection is disappointing as rides have been removed without replacement, the shows have been cut and cut until we get to the point now where Jet Stunt Extreme goes for 10 unentertaining mins, the audio is so bad in the Seal Stadium that you can't understand it, and the Dolphin Show really fails to sell Sea World's message of the care for the animals and serious conservation issues, and given how much heat Sea World has been under from the poorly informed Facebook brigade, that seems like a message worth hammering home. Now we're staring down the barrel of 2 attractions closing without replacement, one of them being one of the most popular family rides on the Gold Coast. But it's OK though, they built a new roof lately. Phew! The park will never be the thrill ride capital of the Gold Coast, nor should it be really. But it does need 1 or 2 BIG thrill rides, and 3 or 4 family rides. Not kiddie rides mind you, family rides. Rides that appeal to people of all ages, with very low height requirements. What sort of rides? Well a flume ride ticks a lot of those boxes. There are a lot of combinations of rides that would work, when I made my proposal I went with a MACK launch coaster, Spinning Coaster, and shooting dark ride as a way to restore the parks balance, with a view to also adding a big night time show. Lots of combinations could work, (although I think a drop ride is a total waste of time on the Gold Coast with Giant Drop just down the road). I think they need to lay off the animal attractions for a bit, if you want to see animals on the Gold Coast, you're going to Sea World. They already totally own that market. I'd like to see a few different animal attractions open at Sea World in the future, but the balance needs to be corrected first. That means a new intermediate thrill ride (something on the same level as Doomsday/Pirate ship), a new family ride (replacement flume or Vekoma Madhouse, or better yet both in a new themed area) and a new big thrill ride (something to take over Corkscrew's role as the big impressive coaster in the park). Then you can add animal attractions and have them make a difference, but right now, it's a shell of a park that has a lot of potential, which is being dashed at every opportunity. Incidentally, if they do demolish the castle, get the projector from the 3D cinema over to WnW and do nightly Dive in Movies in Summer again.7 points

A dive turn would be epic IMO for the turnaround. They contain so much airtime, they look intimidating to the GP and it would add a unique element to the ride that not many coasters have.5 points

Woah there... Firstly, who's angry? Secondly, who's assuming anything? There is tens of pages of talk about the coaster if you can bother looking for the thread and catching up Thirdly, my 4 year old makes YouTube videos. I've even seen Dogs with channels. The fact you've posted a video on YouTube doesn't mean you know what's going on, it just means you know how to use a computer or smart phone. Finally, you currently know jack all as a rookie poster here, and what I mean by that is, unless you have some valid information to share that is in some way validated, you know as much as all of us that do or do not know anything, and either choose to or are bound to not sharing.4 points

Rumoured Coaster? I think you have some serious catching up to do in the Movie World rollercoaster thread.4 points

SW needs a decent Capital Injection with a focus on rides, rides and more rides. Today with really only 2 that could be considered thrilling family rides I would love to see the addition of the following: - A Creatures of the Deep interactive Dark ride attraction that would take the place of the Castle Theatre area. - A fun flat ride over the existing Flume queue and boarding area. Something along the Thrill level of the Pirate Ship. - A big dipper style rollercoaster made to look like an old sea side woody but a Steel Coaster, like California Screamin at DCA. Obvious location beside Jets Rescue. - A great big Ferris Wheel, like the DCA Fun wheel. Now that I am sure building height restrictions have changed, they should investigate pursuing such an attraction permanently. The views are unsurpassed. Place along a Boardwalk area beside the new coaster. Complete rebuild of the Front gate. It's time to seriously reinvigorate SW. The Park is long overdue for a big spend3 points

Unless it was mentioned, the end of the gondola has a moulding of pointy broken bone. Its not just a flat cylinder end any more.3 points

Well, based on tradition from SeaWorld who close rides for maintenance for extended periods then tear them down, Vikings looks like it may be on the chopping block. I'm not holding my breath on this, but it could happen, like Corkscrew and Bermuda before it. If that happens, then that means there are no log flumes left in the park, and the only rides left in the park are Storm, Jet Rescue and the Spongebob rides. Also @joz didn't SeaWorld base Vikings' design off Arrow log flumes? I seriously hate how SeaWorld, and VRTP as a whole, close rides without warning, it is a grand example of trolling and gives park guests the middle finger.3 points

You're probably looking more at 30mil for a flyer would be my guess and even then it would probably a short one. SW is an animal park and I'm happy to see more animal enclosures, but with so many rides being closed and not replaced the park desperately needs the balance restored. For what its worth if you gave me an unlimited spend on the park I'd build: 1. Ferris Wheel (views & gentle) 2. Drop Tower (again great views and would like to see one of those face down drop rides added for the extra thrill and sets it apart from DW) 3. Screamin' Swing (After the problems with S&S they might be more reluctant, but would replicate the feeling on the Pirate ship and a bit more of a family thrill) 4. Enclose the parts of the Flume Ride (Breathing life back into it and giving the park another dark ride) 5. Soarin' Attraction (Could work great with a sea theme and would like to see it go in the castle. However I don't think the space would be big enough) 6. Get Mack in to do a sort of launched looping coaster (good replacement for Corkscrew) 7. Mack spinning coaster (these just look like a hell of a lot of fun and great for families to enjoy) 8. 3 new modern monorail trains with air-con I would love to see something like a B&M flyer or wing rider, I just don't think it's feasible. But I did think the same about us ever getting a Hyper Coaster. Something someone else brought up here I hadn't thought of before is a wooden coaster with that seaside pier theme, I think that could look really cool!2 points

The plunge was the water ride removed from the back of the Sea World resort. Used to be at Wet n Wild. I sure hope so.2 points

Thing is if a ride is well designed and maintained and age isn't really something that makes a ride more dangerous. Sure you have to replace components as they reach the end of their service life, but just because a ride is old doesn't mean it's dangerous. On the other hand, shoot the rapids at Cedar Point. Replacing an older ride with a new one is fine too. But we're still waiting for replacements for the Corkscrew, Skyway, Pirate Ship, Train and the Plunge. Closing one of the few rides left in the park would be an incredibly poor move.2 points

two most recent major ride incidents at our parks include: Accident on TRRR - a ride over 30 years old Accident on GL - A ride less than 5 years old. Age isn't the factor here. Otherwise LPM would have to close the scenic railway.2 points

OK, so I've been one for knocking and whining over most things that happen at the park for a while, so I thought for a change of pace, rather than pissing and moaning over everything that management do without having anything constructive to say, I'd chime in with my own suggestions. This is a long read, and honestly the video at the bottom sums it up pretty well if you can't be bothered reading, it's only worth reading if you like excessive detail. I feel I should also point out that this is borderline obsessive, and I'm actually much more normal in real life than you'd think just by judging from this post So, I started by looking at the creatures of the deep attraction, and what might replace that once its time is up. I quickly realized that any development would need either a large concrete wall, or to be elevated so the area can still operate during Jet Stunt Extreme. The obvious way to do that would be to theme it after one of those Pleasure Piers that are popular all over the world, but are curiously lacking in Australia. This creates a new themed area, that exposes people to something new, while also seeming familiar. That theme of combing new and old elements into something original also manifests itself in the replacement for Dockside, the Sea World Pier Bar and Restaurant. On the outside, its look is loosely based on the old 'Southport Pier (See above)', on the inside it's a slightly more modern, but still in an old school style. There are lots of photos of hard hat divers, skin divers, longboard surfers, and other sea related photos stretching back in time. The idea is that these photos were put up new, and we never taken down, giving the interior a more timeless feel. Downstairs is a massive arcade, a Gold Coast classic, Grundy's, named for the famous attraction in Surfers Paradise. Both the arcade and bar are placed as the Northern Entry to the pier, this should ensure good foot traffic, something Dockside Tavern in it's current state doesn't really enjoy, which does hurt it's revenue a lot compared to Dirty Harry's. The restaurant and bar is place between Sea World Pier, and the nearby Nick Land. The idea is parents of older kids (like 10 and over) would be able to relax at the bar, while the kids will explore the nearby rides and attractions without being too far away. This combination should be enough to encourage more visits and more spending out of VIP Pass holders, as well as creating a laid back ambiance for less frequent visitors. Outside on the pier is a gazebo that would house live music on weekends to add to the atmosphere of the area. Down stairs is Grundy's, and the draw card here (aside from the massive arcade) is 'Sir Reginald Grundy's Castle Defender'. Sir Reginald Grundy's Castle Defender is a shooting dark ride, on a slightly smaller scale than Justice League 3D, (and with no 3D screens and all the headaches they bring). It's a free attraction, that should hopefully draw people into the arcade, in a similar way that the dodgem cars draw people into Intensity at Movie World. The idea behind the arcade here is that it would work like Timezone in Surfers; people buy game cards pre loaded with cash that they can spend on games, and the more they load, the more perks they get. A further revenue raiser would be to allow people to swipe their card when they board the dark ride, this would take the score they make on the ride and convert it into prize tickets (eg 10,000 points = 1 ticket), effectively turning a free attraction into a revenue raiser, but doing so in such a way that wouldn't alienate other guests. It's also somewhat true to theme, the original Grundy's had a ghost train, hence the theme of skeletons in a castle that is shown in the video. The family friendly vibe continues across the water where a modest Ferris wheel takes up residence, roughly where the water fall now stands. It provides a great aerial view of the Dolphin pools, something that made the Skyway a popular attraction for so long. Balancing out the area with something a little more grown up, is the "Wild Surf" Spinning mouse Roller Coaster. The ride begins by taking a dive underneath the Pier, before coming back up through a hole, in the middle of the ride area. It's a short ride, not designed to be too challenging, but adult enough that even a thrill seeker would come off the ride satisfied with the experience. The rest of the pier is given over to a viewing area for Jet Stunt Extreme (and a potential new Nighttime Spectacular) on the main lake. A path also leads towards the east, which serves as an emergency exit, viewing area for a new thrill ride, and potentially as a path to a new Monorail station. A new Monorail station would allow the Pier to be opened early or late exclusively for resort guests, driving either an increase in yields at the resort, or occupancy. There is also room on the Pier to add another flat ride in the future to keep the area fresh. The aforementioned thrill ride would be "Serpent's Fury", a MACK launched coaster, which would actually have it's station next to Jet Rescue. Serpent's Fury would take up some (but importantly not all) of Corkscrew's old footprint, and would take on the role of signature thrill ride at the park, occupying the same role that Corkscrew did for 30 odd years. It's layout would leave room for new flat rides to be added near Jet Rescue, and the expansion of NICK Land. Because the Pier is 2 stories, it is space efficient, and creates other opportunities for development. For example, change rooms and a new filtration and pumps system for the Dolphin pools could be built under the pier near where the Endeavour Replica used to sit. This would allow the current change rooms to be demolished, leaving a decent sized plot of land next to the Seal Stadium that could house a new attraction or an expansion of the Dolphin pools. It's easy to see it taking more than a decade to use the land that this attraction opens up. All of this is to improve the park for guests, and improve financial results. As well as the Pier hopefully increasing overall attendance, the arcade and bar would both become important revenue streams, it's also not difficult or offensive to picture carnival games in such an environment, which could also add some extra revenue. The restaurant/bar would also make a more intimate function venue than anything else the park has, and is also wheelchair friendly. The new mix of attractions would help shake the unfortunate reputation that Sea World has these days amongst many of being 'the one you skip unless you have small kids' to being 'the one with the best mix of everything that's also really close to your hotel'. This isn't all to be built in one go either, it's too big and expensive. It would take a couple years to get it to the point it's at in the video (The Serpent's Fury alone would probably set the park back around $20million, easily swallowing a couple years worth of capex), but I think in the long run it'd be worth it. The theme park industry is a long game, and I think it's at it's best when ambitious things are done. Video included2 points

Hello! I decided to make this topic purely because Sea World aren't doing too great at the moment and are in need of some new ideas, SO, share them on here! Personally, i think that they should be focussing on expanding the park and adding new attractions, while removing old ones. Have fun!1 point

I've seen the film multiple times and I'm well aware of the story, which I found the maze followed quite faithfully. My point in that post was that I find it quite clear to see why MW would chose Friday the 13th over the likes of American Horror Story: Murder. Friday the 13th has had numerous film released over a 35+ year period, as well as showcasing a series of consistencies throughout each entry. There is almost always a campsite, there's always a group of reckless teens, and there's always a member of the Voorhees family running around. Going through the maze with people who had not seen the 2009 film, I found that they still understood the basic concepts as they have become a part of pop culture. They understood exactly who Jason was, they understood that they were in a bloodied campsite. Every aspect was quite clear to them. Compare that to American Horror Story: Murder House. This is only 12 episodes of content that aired roughly 5/6 years ago. Not only has it aired a while back, but the characters and settings are not deeply engrained within pop culture. Show the likes of the Infantata to a random individual, and they'll most likely just brush it off as a creepy monster. The same can be applied with most characters of the show. Most of them just haven't made a heavy impact on pop culture. If you had to chose between one franchise to bring people to the event, one of which has had a 36 year impact versus one which had only aired one single season, which would you chose?1 point
-
Agree entirely with @Zanstabar Friday the 13th is far more ingrained in pop culture and horror lore than Tate Langdon. You are forgetting the vast majority of FN's visitors are Teeny boopers, not necessary horror fans. The only series I think you could base an entire maze around would be freak show as the theme itself is fairly generic.1 point
-
Friday the 13th is also deeply engraved in the cultural zeitgeist. With 12 or so movies up it's belt, I would assume more people would recognise Jason Voorhees and a Camp Crystal Lake cabin over a classic creepy house and the "Dead Breakfast Club".1 point

Right but they chose to do Friday the 13th maze that was released in 2009.1 point

They built Green Lantern for MW and we all know what happened back in March of 2015 on that ride. Something else I'd like to add is another family ride. Storm is a great replacement for Bermuda, but is more of a family thrill and therefore has turned away some of BT patronage. Half my family included. I think a true family ride is needed to balance that out. Also if you want to see a great new layout/expansion idea for SW take a look at what Joz did a couple of months back, it would be perfect for the park!1 point

Not going to be good for SW if this is removed. Especially when the Commonwealth games happen. Unless they plan on a major attraction to come to SW replacing either Corkscrew or Vikings. However I doubt VRTP are going to have money left considering all the $$$$ they are spending for MW. Does Mack offer a buy one get one free on their coasters?1 point

I've got a feeling that this would have something to do with what happened at Dreamworld. Like Thunder River, the Flume at Sea World is an in-house design. The cost of insuring an in-house is probably about to go through the roof. The other thing if something were to happen, Sea World would be fully exposed. You'd hope that they do whatever they can to get the ride running again, whether that be getting outside risk assessor and engineers to sign off on the ride/design or getting on the phone to MACK about refurbishing/rebuilding the ride. It's not really something that Sea World can afford to lose in it's current depleted state.1 point

From what I saw on Thursday, they are giving the whole area some improvements and TLC. There were painters doing touch-ups to the DC shop and facades. Doomsday is having new parts/theming installed as well to match the original artwork impression. I can only assume that will paint them black to match over coming days. Either way, that's what is apparently happening with the DC Super-Villians Unleashed precinct. I suspect they might have rushed it open a bit for the September school holidays, and now it's off-peak again they are putting on all the finishing touches ?1 point
-
So... We have intensity Dogems still down until 21st Nov, JL3D until 14th, GL until 21st, Doomsday until 19th and Villains Unleashed until 19th... And SDSC will be down 14th... Looks like giving MW a miss this month1 point

Haven't been on this site for about 8 years but have come back to give my 2c I'm still stunned at the combine harvester a.k.a the conveyor. Im amazed riders were exposed to such a savage machinery. "What ifs" should have been discussed during the hazard identifying process. Did they even have hazard identifying/control measure inspections like at any other workplace? What if a rider hopped out onto the conveyor? What if a raft flipped on the conveyor? What if any person or anything got caught in the conveyor? Due to the lack of restraints and easy access to the conveyor these situations should have been identified as possible and a risk. I find it hard to believe none of these questions were even asked or if they were no control measures put in place1 point

Ryande 16 has really improved from what he/she used to be on parkz. You do not deserve negative rep, and have been talking real well on this thread not being an idiot anymore. Well done????? now if the coaster was as high as ur negative it would have to be renamed "abyss the 2nd"1 point

Yep now i get it This is by no means accurate at all, but i drew a rough sketch of what the coaster could be like to get a sense of the length of the ride(please dont bag my design Lol). The sketch that i drew is about 1050 metres in length from a birds eye view, so none of the hills and drops are include. But i think if those were included the track length would be anywhere from 1300-1600 metres depending on the height of different elements (eg. Loops, drops, ect.).1 point

@joz at the moment not much has been revealed about "Summer Nights event". During Summer months (December and January) Adventure World always has extended trading hours. But this was on their website regarding Summer Nights. "The season will also see the return of the popular Fright Nights events, which kick off in just under 8 weeks, along with the launch of “Summer Nights” in February, where guests can enjoy balmy summer nights at Adventure World with a live DJ." Perhaps @Mark Shaw can shine some more information on it? They do however have a new show coming for December and January called Cirque Extreme.1 point

Whilst it is a sudden change in scheduling, I'm going to assume something unexpected arose relating to maintenance. Looking back when Bermuda Triangle closed, Sea World made it very clear from the start that new attraction development for it's site was underway (but it did actually take them a while to actually start demolishing the ride). Sea Viper said the same thing as Viking's Revenge currently but they were actually trying to fix the ride before deciding it was time for permanent closure 7 months later - that decision though was made public immediately. Viking's Revenge also intertwines with 2 other rides - Storm Coaster & Spongebob 3D. If Viking's Revenge is to be demolished, at least these 2 rides would also need to be closed (at least temporarily) as: Viking's Revenge moves around Storm Coaster's support structures. That is very narrow land for machinery to move through to demolish it's flume and might be considered a risk if Storm Coaster was operating at the same time. Spongebob 3D is located inside the castle which Viking's Revenge is located on top of & also travels through its 'towers' - can you imagine the effort required to remove the flume off the castle? It would be very logistical even if they kept the castle. I am just going to hope that it isn't going to end up like Eureka Mountain Mine Ride in an 'extended' maintenance period0 points
