If we're looking ahead as to the future of that area, here's what i'd do. Firstly, we're presuming that indeed, River Rapids isn't coming back. For all intents and purposes then, there's nothing beyond Buzzsaw really holding the area to a theme, and i'd imagine Buzzsaw would be rethemed out of respect at some point anyway. What i've thought Movie World & Sea World have always done really well is putting on big crowd pulling shows. Stunt Driver, Main Street Parade, the Jet Ski Show, the Dolphin Stadium etc. etc. etc. and yet to this day there's still not a unified large auditorium/stadium/space for people to go to see unique shows beyond the stage in front of the globe. This has meant entertainment has ended up in weird spots like out of the front of the ice-cream parlour or just sporatically in the most of random of places, which has drawed at best, a passing crowd, and not the thousands Village pull in their respective stages & environment. With this in mind, i'd go back to basics and redevelop Gold Rush into old school Dreamworld Village Green, and here's how: Redevelop the cinema into a soarin' attraction and build into the Eureka space. Open up the pathway to allow for a parade to run all the way from the fountain right up to the Dreamworld Auditorium Redevelop the Dreamworld Auditorium, modernise it onto a much more useable daily space, rename it in memory of the four that tragically lost their lives, and create a gorgeous entrance space with four, tall, distinct palm trees at the entrance roughly where the Hollywood House is now. Re-theme Buzzsaw to the Thunderbolt, essentially repaint the ride to look like one of Thunderbolt's signature loops Re-develop the horrid pathway systems that the Sandersons Group put in when they built The Giant Drop and create a more accessible, open & green thoroughfare through that entire corridor of the park. Add more Main Street style facades in and around the Soarin' Style attraction and create new retail experiences and spaces for people to enjoy I've always thought @Gazza was right on the money with some kind of Gerstlauer Eurofighter into that space, and I think given the tremendous value you get from them (just look at Abyss) not to mention how great they are in a tight space, this would be more then ideal. Combine that with a Star Flyer and you'd have a revitalised area that would honour the past, be a worthy response to what Movie World's doing next year (if done right), would be able to manage the capacity lost from River Rapids and offer guests new retail and show experiences that can be refreshed often. And to top this all off, this would then open up a clear and open path to expanding out into where Blue Lagoon was, and also give Dreamworld a clear and appropriate corridor to expand into should they build a second gate in the future to link to the Coomera Town Centre. Thoughts? I'm going to mood board you guys while i'm here. Above - Buzzsaw paint job inspiration Above - Look and feel for the new buildings that would wrap around the other three sides of the Soarin' theatre. Above - Blue Lagoon could be redeveloped to look like this in the future. Above - Inspiration for some of the gardens and pathways that could interconnect the area between Rocky Hollow, Giant Drop and Village Oval. Above - super rough idea of what the entrance could look like for the Dreamworld Auditorium.8 points

They're not closing it "out of respect" at all. It's a business decision to try to save face with the public. As much as I hate the decision, look at your options really. > Ride reopens - media chastise the park for not honouring the deceased. Park is criticised for pretending it never happened. - Overall BAD PR. > Ride remains SBNO - media berate them for leaving an "open wound" at the park. Public complain there's no reason to visit that end of the park now. Enthusiasts finally have a new SBNO ride to move on to after Eureka. - Overall MODERATE PR impact. > Ride is filled in too soon - media & public claim they're trying to forget it ever happened and cover any trace of it existing. - Overall BAD PR. > Ride is completely removed - media & public complain none of the ride was kept as a memorial, but at the same time say none of it should be kept as a reminder of what happened. - Overall BAD PR. > Part of the ride is kept as a memorial - media & public complain they've kept a reminder of what happened. (you'll never please everyone) - Overall MODERATE PR impact. > Some other scenario I haven't thought of - UNKNOWN PR impact. So really there's no winning this, regardless of what they do or don't do.7 points

@Slick Great idea for Buzsaw's re-theme, I did a dodgy shop of it.5 points
-
I personally think closing it was an absolutely stupid decision. This was a tragic accident. People died. That doesn't mean the ride should be removed. People have died on plenty of other rides that are still ridden by thousands of people each day. As much as I want to go back to Dreamworld to support them, decisions like this removal of yet another classic ride from the park are making it extremely hard to justify the cost of going back. Their management had really better start looking at some big draw card attractions, and fast. The park is just kind of..."meh" at the moment, even without the rapids incident.5 points

It will come out that the ride is flawed in its design and this directly contributed to the incident. There is no way was ever reopening once the cause was determined and I have no doubts that experts had it 90% figured out within hours. Retrofitting with new technology to address its design flaws is an interesting idea but when you consider the stigma the ride will carry with it forever, where's the possible return on this kind of huge investment? I'm not speculating on what specific confluence of events led to the incident, but this decision and the announcement today is not driven by respect for the victims or relenting to negative coverage in the media. It's a decision based on the business case for the ride and Dreamworld as a whole. Ardent and Dreamworld are one in the same since this incident took place. The company as a whole would be using every internal and external resource at their disposal when making these decisions; it's pretty pointless to point the finger at one level of the organisation as a scapegoat.4 points

I hope it's not too soon, but I'd like to start fresh on this one and turn to a positive note... Dreamworld is one of my all time favorite parks and I would love to see it recover and flourish. It's time to move on from the tragic occurrences of October 2016 and start thinking about the future of the park and where it will move in the future. With 4x SBNO attractions (TRR, Eureka, Skylink, and the BB Ampitheatre) in one corner of the park there is going to be a clear push for a drastic change in this area. Dreamworld has typically been focused heavily on the Australian lifestyle and while the theme's may not always make sense: see turbines, the main areas lean towards Australiana and I think this would be a great direction to head for a retheme as well. The whole "old west" and "gold rush" thing is a bit played out now, it's all about the beauty of nature. What would you like to see for Dreamworld in 2017 and beyond? Personally, I would like to see a complete overhaul of Gold rush into a leafy green lush Australian Rainforest theme, bringing in some of the amazing beauty we have in the Gold Coast Hinterland. We have the Ocean theme, we have the Bush theme, I think something a little more tropical complementing its location would be a great addition, and truly distance the area from its current situation.3 points

Why not link it to the NFT bracelets from the villains area? $5 per day for use of lockers at SE, GL & the new coaster (unlimited use but 2hr max per opening)2 points
-
Yeah same, I don't mind paying $2 for a locker, but used to be a better when it was $1, and would've been even greater if they were free.2 points
-
Please Movieworld.....DO NOT build pay-per-use external lockers for this new coaster. It's a horrible idea, it makes guests upset, and you loose the immediate purchase at the gift shop. Make a cupboard for loose articles in the station, with a sliding door, to allow for the safe enclosure of multiple trains worth of belongings.2 points

The maintenance period wasn't extended for the safety audits. Someone asked MW on Facebook if the safety audits would impact on MW opening to the public and MW responded with this: Given it says VRTP, it is very likely that their response applies to SW too. I think SW's priority should be the removal/replacement of the SW Resort Water Park. Whilst, according to SW, the replacement is to be part of SW Resort, I believe the land should be returned to SW as it suits SW better geographically. This is an idea I developed with SW in mind over the past few days to go in the land linking Castaway Bay with Shark Bay. The general theme of the area is just the open ocean: Beginning at the southern end, the underwater viewing area of Shark Bay is linked to the new area via a tunnel under the road that leads to the SW Monorail maintenance area. The new entrance is via walking into (or near) the mouth of a Great White Shark. The rest of the Great White Shark's body forms part of a statue on ground level - doubling as an entry sign to Shark Bay. It could also include animatronic features in the fins/tail. The main attraction in the area is a S&S - Sansei Technologies 4D Free Spin which I've called Ocean Current. Due to SW Monorail's maintenance track/area causing this whole area (plus Castaway Bay) to be hidden/isolated, a major thrill ride in this area would encourage visitors to find the area. The track would be coloured green/blue/white & a blue sign to the ride is located out the front. Under the Monorail near the Battle Boats station, is a couple of retail outlets - one of which sells ride-on photos to Ocean Current. Next to it, is the SW Monorail maintenance area where the transfer track is connected to the main track. Opposite to the retail outlets, is a timber observation deck which provides a photo opportunity of the Broadwater. In the shallow waters nearby, a recreation of the SW logo is placed (similar to DW's globe) providing a spot to take photos that can be shared through social media. The other main attraction in the area is what I've called Shipwreck. Mostly located beneath ground level, it is a combined escape/panic room & maze. The exterior theming consists of a sinking ship with water pumps recreating the forces water has when a ship sinks. A timber walkway connecting the ship with the land acts as the entrance/exit into the attraction. Once inside the ship, you are put into the escape/panic room. Screens inside the room detail the story before the puzzle begins - you are rich people who are guests on board a ship in rough seas (link to Ocean Current). You encounter a pirate ship (link to Battle Boats) & become locked in a battle with them. Pirates manage to board the ship & the ride attendant (playing the ship's captain etc.) then hides you (because of how rich you are) by locking you in the room. After a brief battle scene, a cannon ball hits your ship and begins to sink. The game then starts where the aim is to evacuate the ship before it sinks. The screens inside the room show the water rising 'outside the windows' (to give an indication of the time you got left) as well as showing the pirates & their ship leaving due to them sinking your ship. When the water reaches the top, small hidden water fountains in the room briefly soak the participants (to recreate water breaching the room) before the ride attendant 'saves you' and leads you into the maze (If you lose the game or depending on how long it took you to finish the puzzle, water effects would operate in the maze too). If you solve the puzzle, you can open the door leading everyone into the maze. The maze essentially looks like the rest of the ship's interior & utilises the effects seen in Young Einstein Gravity Homestead to give you 'sea legs'. The maze represents you evacuating the ship and finding a way out. The end of the maze is the actual ride exit - the timber walkway connecting the ship to the land. Once out, you can then see your time & compare it to other participants. I imagined you can record your time by scanning your park ticket inside the panic/escape room before the puzzle begins as well as at the exit of the attraction. Behind Shipwreck is a plaza where people can sit & eat food from the nearby retail outlets (including the Castaway Bay shops). A stage is placed in front of Shipwreck - doubling it as a background for a show (such as one about pirates or castaways). The plaza acts a place for visitors to view the show (whilst eating too). General entertainment (such as a band or singer or even character meet & greets) can also utilise the stage during non-show times. Happy to hear anyone's opinion on my idea. Please note though that I didn't take into account any financial restraints when developing the ideas.2 points

As awesome as a movable locker sounds, I really don't feel like pushing it from one ride to another....1 point

don't forget that Kevil Hill is also SBNO so that's 5 x SBNO attractions at the park ATM I personally think something will happen with TCK (Tiger Cub Kindy) and KH/ZE area when the Summer Holidays are done, I don't know what they could do with that area, I'm placing my bets something will happen to it by next year. I remember someone on here saying that nothing is happening with Zombe till November. with tragedy that has happened I don't think we will be seeing any work till next year with the attraction, in saying this I did get told Dreamworld was considering to reopen the attraction back as the laser tag counterpart (same source who told me about TCK) but with what's happened I don't think that's not a main priority at the moment1 point

Whilst a third train on Superman would be ideal to have Arkham really needs the second train more. Seeing an approximate 15 minutes wait at the front of the queue line for a ride is something that should never happen.1 point
-
That's precisely what I was suggesting... that they need three trains so that there's always two available. Currently the ride cannot physically run a second train much of the year because of maintenance schedules, even though it really should. Actually running three trains on the ride with the necessary adjustments to the blocking would presumably be possible, but it's hard to see a capacity increase. You'd need to see some serious changes to the queue/station and load procedures to get dispatch times anywhere near where they'd need to be for smooth three train operation. I'd expect to see the same with the new coaster... a ride designed to operate with two trains but three on hand. @YLFATEEKS 5.5 cars per train sounds like a nice, safe bet... right in the middle.1 point
-
But isn't Rocky Hollow already a flume? As much as a family ride is needed, DW are hardly going to build two Flume rides within walking distance of each other.1 point
-
Superman's brake run is only a slow-down, the block ends at the unload station.1 point

Regardless of how different they may be, I doubt Dreamworld would replace TRRR with an Intamin version. Despite the differences, the public would not view it any differently.1 point

Wow Slick... your ideas are fantastic, when Sea World makes Joz their CEO I hope Dreamworld does the same with you ?.1 point

Thanks so much @Theme Park Girl - these are really helpful! Yep, the last time I went Bermuda Triangle was still up and running, so a lot has changed. Once I finish building my house, I am definitely taking a much needed trip to the Gold Coast! Thanks for that @themagician - it's a bit clearer than Google Earth shows. If only Nearmaps was free....1 point

There's nothing that says a panic room must be terrorfying, so there's no reason it couldn't fit. As for a 4D free spin, it's not a ride I'd choose, but at 122cm it has a low height restriction, and I can imagine the GP eating it up. I'm not totally against the idea of one in that location. What I would say though, is that area of the park at the moment is a playground for kids, and it's a popular corner of the park, so my instinct would be to expand on and improve the current castaway bay theme, rather than add two fairly adult attractions to a totally kiddie area. Rather than a panic room/maze, I think a MACK twist and shout to replace the kiddie pool would be the way to go. I don't think it's too similar to battle boats, I think it just adds to the critical mass of wet rides in that area to make that the place to go to cool off, (almost like a water park ). That area already has a gift shop so I wouldn't bother with that, but an expanded seating area and alcohol sales I think would make it better for parents wanting a break while their kids let off energy in the kiddie attractions. If the room was there for a 4D free fly I wouldn't be say no given the fairly low height requirement, but I don't think it's a ride that should take on the role of the parks big signature thrill ride either. Just my $0.021 point

I would expect to see three trains so that there are two trains available to operate at all times. I don't see it being designed to actually operate three trains, purely because there's no way operations here would be able to keep up with dispatch times to make this worthwhile. We're at a point now with memberships/VIP passes that there is no longer an off-peak season where it's acceptable to operate with one train. With figures like $30 million being thrown around, then the expectation is obviously that this coaster will be a huge driver of attendance in order to justify that kind of expense. If you're confident in its strength as a drawcard, then you have to be planning to be able to operate at capacity year-round. For what it's worth, Superman Escape is desperately overdue for a third train as well to allow it to mostly operate with two, as is Arkham Asylum for a second.1 point

Woah there... Firstly, who's angry? Secondly, who's assuming anything? There is tens of pages of talk about the coaster if you can bother looking for the thread and catching up Thirdly, my 4 year old makes YouTube videos. I've even seen Dogs with channels. The fact you've posted a video on YouTube doesn't mean you know what's going on, it just means you know how to use a computer or smart phone. Finally, you currently know jack all as a rookie poster here, and what I mean by that is, unless you have some valid information to share that is in some way validated, you know as much as all of us that do or do not know anything, and either choose to or are bound to not sharing.1 point

@Jamberoo Fan A. Adjusting nut B. Adjust and lock bolt together C. Lock bolt open. If you adjust one of these connections up or down. You will move the top of the pole by its length. In theory, the longest pole on Mr Hyper Coaster would be around 60m If you adjusted one of the connections up or down by 1cm you could move the top of the pole by 1.2m Once track is complete and all adjustments are made. The lock nuts are locked and the area between the footing and metal plate are filed with concrete. Why did I tell you this. No reason at all. Just had 5 min to kill at work1 point

I get excited for almost anything, and the Final Party was no exception. It sounded like such a good time. It was going to be the highlight of this year's Fright Nights for me. I don't think the cancellation is the wrong move, however. Considering the sensitive subjects that Halloween events seem to dance around with, it makes absolute sense to me that they would cancel in light of the events that transpired this past week. Changes to events have happened previously, and I'm sure it will happen again. Even some of the world's best Halloween events have had to make alterations in light of local, national and even international tragedies. Universal Studio's Halloween Horror Nights in 2001 had to make an immense amount of changes for their season in light of the September 11 attacks. All references to gore had to be removed, titles had to be changed, and even the marketing icon from that year had to be scrapped all in an effort to appeal to the more sensitive audience of the time. Just a year later, Universal had to retool their original concept for that season as a string of child abductions rendered their original Village of the Dammed-esque child icon to be in bad taste. The Final Party would've been an absolute blast if everything had gone according to plan. It would've been a treat to experience everything that the team would have provided. Unfortunately, it would have to have been a perfect world for that to occur, and reality just isn't perfect; it's flawed. Life is unpredictable, and I commend the VRTP team for knowing when to fold. I would much rather remember Fright Nights 2016 as a relatively mediocre event in the shadow of a national tragedy, than to remember it as "The Year of Public Insensitivity".1 point

I was planning to attend the Final Party, I purchased a ticket a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly I was a little disappointed at first, especially since I had already gone to the extent of purchasing makeup and stuff to dress up on the night with. However in the bigger picture of things, I understand why Movie World have made this decision, and I'm glad they have. Besides the obvious ie. the park openly showing their compassion and respect for this tragedy and it's victims by cancelling, I find it extremely gracious of them to be openly showing their support and uniting together with Dreamworld on this one, given the two parks are usually in direct conflict of interest with each other. They literally pulled their event less than half an hour after Dreamworld did their Screamworld events, so it seemed pretty clear to me that the did it last in response to that. Also, very rarely do you see one park mention or refer to the other so directly by name, so to see that email from Movie World refer to Dreamworld, it personally touched my heart. Honestly, it would have been poor taste anyway for Movie World to go ahead with a "day of the dead" themed special event, given the circumstances. I am sure they would have pulled the plug on the other remaining nights as well, had they not already completely sold out to such large audiences. Had I not already booked a panic room for tomorrow night's Fright Nights, I probably would have chosen to stay home. Nothing against MW, just still mentally stuffed up a bit over the events of Tuesday and my heart is telling me I shouldn't be out having fun at one so soon in respect to the victims. It's probably gonna take me a few days, if not a couple of weeks, at least to recover from this tragedy1 point

Its part of gold rush yes but can remain and be rethemed to what ever rides - attractions that may replace the other 3 rides - gold rush theme That said im thinking any new attractions - rides are long off As dreamworld works on rebuilding its brand and trust0 points

The thunder river rapids will not reopen The thunder river rapids and eureka mountain mine ride are part of the same structure so you have to remove both They and the chair lift station form what is gold rush country 2 of the 3 rides have been sbno for 10 years Its simple to say that they will all be removed if the thunder river rapids does not reopen0 points

Yes you are right sorry but i dont class buzzsaw as park of gold rush country because it was added and themed to the area and can remain with a new theme if they do remove the other 3 rides-1 points

I'm not sure whether the brake run on SE is a 'slow down' or whether it is capable of a complete stop. If it is, 3 train operation would be possible as you have: Load block Launch Block Brake Block Unload block You always need at least one more block than you have trains - so the brake is the big question. In theory the entire dark-ride section could be treated that way also, as the kickers could stop the train. Whether that would allow the ride to flow, or whether you'd just end up stacking all the time (especially with MW level operation) would be the issue. So, it would probably take some reprogramming at the very least, but you COULD in theory. Whether you WOULD though? Probably not.-1 points

Its personal speculation for now Im sure once the course of the accident is known dreamworld will be given a plan of what is needed to be done to bring the ride upto date and stop this or any other incidents happening again Im sure it will lead to big $$$ needing to be spent witch is why i feel a decision to not reopen the ride likely As much as i dont wont to lose the ride It would also be the right decision in respect of KATE - LUKE - ROOZBEH & CINDY just my feeling towards all this I dont think i would ever feel 100% rideing it again just knowing these poor soles lost there lives If anyone gets what i am feeling Yes i agree if there are any plans signed off But any future big plans will be far off now i feel As in a replacement for thunder river rapids etc if the ride does not reopen Is what i mean-2 points
