  1. No you're not. I'm the resident asshole, you'll get used to it.

  2. I have to say my initial thought was how a show re-creating the arrival of captain cook to Australia was somehow going to compliment an aboriginal cultural focus...

  3. Damn, would've been cool to see what had happened if DW had stayed with the same owners and they kept up with that type of capital expenditure. Maybe if Ardent/Macquarie hadn't of bought it things could've been very different in terms of a certain incident too. Could've, should've, would've i guess. All spilt milk, water under the bridge i guess.

  4. I thought 2005-06 was pretty cool, when we got Superman, Extreme H20 Zone, Whitewater World and Batwing.

  5. ^ This. I'm as disappointed as everyone else on this forum, and loved grabbing a ride whenever we took the kids there, but I was always the only one in our group to ride as my boys were a bit short and even once my eldest was tall enough the idea of riding it alone (unlike LPS they only allowed 1 person per car) was a bit intimidating for him. I think the replacement will be well received by families with younger thrill seekers and despite what others have said regarding the GP not being concerned with the capacity of rides, it will make a noticeable difference in this case, and in this current climate of people being a little wary of older rides (don't forget Aussie World have had their own 'incident' in the last year or so) I think most people will just see it as a modernised version and will see it as unique. It will be the only spinning coaster in an Australian theme park (if I'm not mistaken), after all. I'm personally excited about Aussie World's plans. So far we only know 3 of the 7 rides coming in the next 12 months (that's 2 'replacement rides' and 5 new additions, with one obviously being @Gazza's mini drop tower find) so I'm sure they have a couple of surprises up their sleeves.

  6. This seems like a very interesting project, that has had some great concept art and master planning backing the project. The Sanad company have a youtube channel with some great official concept art videos https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCk2vOv-38MusA-GrfETOxEA According to this article, if built, the park will boast the "world’s largest interactive aqua play structure, slide-boarding and Australia’s biggest wave pool".

  7. Because that would be way too simple.

  8. Couldn't this have been posted in the current Aussie World thread with creating a whole new one? Seems a bit redundant......

  9. I dont know, i feel like if they made a confident return and said yup all rides have been thoroughly checked over and certified safe it would instill confidence into the general public moreso than opening up a mostly not operating theme park. That reeks of no confidence. I feel like the park has just succumbed so hard to the media. It's just pandering now for PR sake. They need to get their mojo/confidence back and be like "yup, we're back! for good! better than ever" etc. It is a very touchy situation i get that, but i feel they've swung to far to that direction if you get what i mean?

  10. Buying 15-30 new fibreglass logs/boats would be extremely expensive on what's already a very old ride. Is it worth the potentially multi-million dollar upkeep? Or would SW be better of scrapping it and spending the money on some new attractions?

  11. This ride is too valuable to the park to close. A complete refurbishment is needed but closing it would leave a serious blackhole in the park. Don't do it SeaWorld, don't do it!!!!

  12. This ride is going to propel Movie World to the top for sure. I hope the investment pays in dividends that they can keep this level of investment up in the future. We all know what happened after The Tower of Terror/GD got installed. A serious lul in major capital investment at DW.

  13. I can't see this working. Yes, they will attract the tourists but locals will likely go for one of two visits and then abandon the place as there doesn't look to be thrill rides which are what the general public wants these days. If you think otherwise then look no further than FOX Studios. Even that struggled to get one visit out of the Sydney locals. Locals ultimately sustain a theme park and if you can't get the locals and their REPEAT business then just don't bother.

  14. Looking at the slides... this seems like it's legit. Apparently they just need approval to start construction. There is a new style mat racer up the back of the water park, that's a mix between a water coaster and a mat racer. Looks really really fun: I hate that color scheme though. The one in the video looks great though. Also, there were a few drop box slides up the back. It looked similar to the aqua loop complex but with more slide after the loop. One almost looks like it had two loops. Every slide shown in the video looks like its manufactured by White Water West. Maybe some cool deal that made it cheaper to construct. The slides look very unique and very different to the ones we are used to seeing in Australia. Am really hoping this gets off the ground.

  15. It looks like a great concept and a no brainer of an idea. If it comes to fruition, with Aussie World's planned expansion, and Australia Zoo nearby, this would then make the Sunshine Coast Australia's next largest attraction destination after the Gold Coast. Exciting times indeed for the area and fingers crossed that this actually gets to construction stage!

  16. I must admit I'm on the side of knocking the project. This isn't exactly a response to you MickeyD, but I've quoted you because you have inspired me to write more complete thoughts on the project (as proposed, opinion subject to change as more information comes to light) The main entry is an indoor ski slope inside a Re-creation of Uluru. That to me sounds the ramblings of a madman. Uluru still has an active culture, so it gets treated with a lot of respect in this country. Building a replica and putting an indoor ski slope is not treating it with respect, it's treating it as a novelty, turning a sacred site into a road stop. "Oh Joz what are you on about, building a replica doesn't take away from the real one and doesn't disrespect anything" What I'm saying isn't that this is a slap in the face to the real Uluru, what I'm saying is that this displays a lack of understanding of Australian culture, which isn't a good sign since that promises to be a fundamental part of the park. This isn't Australian history, it's Australian history as told by a Chinese business man who doesn't understand Australian history or culture. The parks principle themes seem to be 'Aboriginal Culture' 'Captain Cook's arrival' and a 'Chinese cultural area'. What a random combination of themes. There's nothing that goes all those themes together, no over arching theme, it's just a mish mash or half baked ideas, and I can't get even a little bit enthusiastic for it. Stuff like running a ferry service to Surfers and Carrara Stadium doesn't make sense to me. Might they bring in your groups via boat instead of by bus? Yeah probably, but to say there'll be a Ferry service is nonsense. And why go to Carrara Stadium? Unless the plan is to do some sort of park and ride thing on game day that makes no sense. Also according to the last report there won't be any thrill rides on opening. So there you have it, a park with no rides doing cultural shows designed by a man who doesn't understand culture themed around elements that don't gel together for a non-existent market of Chinese tourists + ski slope. I'm sorry but it sounds awful. You've been around the Gold Coast tourism scene, you know the crowd Movie World was built for, it was built to cater for international tourists who never showed up. You also know the reason Movie World is the way it is has to do with them going after the local market because what they were trying to do didn't work. Dreamworld at least opened with a couple thrill rides and Movie World had a couple good family adventure rides to keep them going. Dreamworld & Movieworld also both had good well defined over arching and compelling themes. This place has none of those things.

  17. Bonus points for remembering that it's Hungry Jack's and not Burger King! I'm still willing to get behind the park though. They're easily the friendliest park in South East Queensland, and as much as it's a unique ride, Australia as a whole has so few coasters that everything here is unique, and I don't think you can get much marketing mileage out of a ride that's so small and old. Put it in America or the UK and all of a sudden you've got a more coaster literate population who can appreciate such things, but it's totally wasted here. I'm sad to see it go, but I'm not surprised. The fact they have plans to replace it with a similar ride doesn't do much to soften the blow, but at least they have plans to replace it and grow the park. So long as they're investing in the place and bringing new rides in I totally support them.

  18. Thanks @YLFATEEKS. This is a GREAT find and while I share Noxegans despair at the removal of the Wild Mouse ( another classic suddenly gone ) the replacement rides are of an excellent calibre. Great news that they are also looking at FIVE new rides in 2017 as a overall expansion of the park. Aussie World is certainly growing and expanding into an excellent medium sized family park and this will only further drive tourism into the Sunshine coast. I know that it will certainly be on my agenda to revisit in the next couple of years!! Whilst on the subject of Aussie World's Wild Mouse, LPS are certainly aware of the ride's decommissioning. They investigated the option to utilise this for parts for their Wild Mouse , however, the cars are different to LPS and there is no room to store any parts on site. LPS have declined the option and the Wild Mouse will be unceremoniously dismantled and scrapped. Unfortunate turn of events for this classic ride and I certainly echo AlexB's comments that surely something could have been done to save it.

  19. Yeah you're right. I shouldn't speculate. I just feel like ever since GD/TOT there have been so many missed opportunities to make the park into something world class. Starting with the mishap that was Cyclone and the total misfire with the motorcoaster. And the underwhelming Buzzsaw. I would swap all 3 in an instant for a B&M lol
