Yeah mate, I am getting really annoyed by these random threads filling up the thread list. It's great that you have joined Parkz but please stop making (pointless) threads. If you want to reply to something or get into a discussion on useful or relevant topics, then go for gold. I'm not trying to argue I just wanted you to understand why you are now at -34 reputation points.8 points

@SunshineTom But what about the thousands of families who said they will still support the park and ride the rides as they understand that it was a freak accident and that they believe it was not dreamworld's fault (despite the media scaring techniques) Read DW's facebook page to see these comments their are loads of them with families saying they wills till let their kids go on a ride. People die in car crashes does that mean parents will be worried that their kids will die in a car?3 points

Another new project for the Gold Coast http://blankgc.com.au/largest-night-market-in-australia-coming-to-the-gold-coast/ http://thefareground.com.au/ Right in the middle of Carrara. The FareGround will deliver all of that, and more, when it opens in early 2018. The new market is a collaboration between Carrara Markets owner (and Sirromet Wines founder), Terry Morris and NightQuarter entrepreneurs Michelle Christoe and Ian Van der Woude. The initative will see an unused urban space, adjacent to Carrara Markets next to the Gooding Drive roundabout transformed into a buzzing night market, right before the Commonwealth Games hit town. Michelle Christoe told Blank Gold Coast that they’re taking their inspiration from old world fairgrounds. Think carousel rides, ferris wheels and sideshow alleys. And then they’re throwing into the mix 40 chef-driven street kitchens, eclectic bars, circus, live music and 30 creative local arts and craft vendors. To top it all off, FareGround will also create a new 750 person live music venue. The local music scene has long lamented the gap in the market for a venue this size. So as well as offering opportunities for street performers, buskers, circus acts and theatre performers, the venue is also expected to attract touring bands wishing to cater to that mid-size audience range. Striking a balance between nostalgia and innovation, the architectural design of the site will draw from whimsical images of fairgrounds and carnivals of days past, while innovating with upcycled materials to create something completely new. If this is not just a quick chuck together development and they are drawing inspiration from old world fairgrounds and are truly looking at recreating it, I would check it out.2 points

Kind of non news until mid next year, but this seems pretty cool none the less. http://bmag.com.au/your-brisbane/brisbane-extra/2016/12/06/brisbane-is-getting-the-southern-hemispheres-first-flying-theatre/ Brogent Technologies, a Taiwan-headquartered company that specialises in simulation technology, has announced its intention to bring its innovative i-Ride Flying Theatre to Brisbane. Brogent’s decision to bring its flying theatre to Brisbane follows their success with Fly Over Canada, which has become a popular tourist attraction in Vancouver. Brogent is in the process of identifying the ideal Brisbane location for its i-Ride Flying Theatre. Work on the project is expected to start in mid-2017. -------+ For reference: https://www.flyovercanada.com2 points

Dude you are seriously starting to shit me.. whats with the 'lol'... if you have some factual basis for believing Fareground, or Nightquarter for that matter, are/will be trashy, then bring it to the table or STFU.. seriously..2 points

The site already has a very sophisticated review function that more than accurately rates rides in the database. Sending you a PM is not what I would consider on my list of 'fun things to do'2 points

The nightquarter is amazing and has gone from strength to strength in its first year. Miami Marketta is also great, this provides a similar offering in between. Will be immensely popular and successful IMO. Nothing trashy about what is being planned.2 points

DW have been on a high until the TRRR accident happened. However I believe they can recover from it as there are tones of people showing support and saying they will come back to the park on DW's Facebook page.2 points

So you're disagreeing with a very pertinent and relevant (not to mention accurate) point, simply on the basis that YOUR needs haven't been specifically catered to? I hate to break it to you, but you are not the parks only demographic. The park cannot survive on thrill rides alone, lest they alienate kids, families, tourists who don't count credits etc. We've seen the park install loads of higher thrill attractions, and the past couple of years have seen them spend time and money on things that we (and many members of the general public) have chipped them for - dilapidated, poorly maintained buildings and facilities, cheap, poor quality food offerings, and cheap crappy souvenirs, products and experiences. When a park continues to install high thrill rides, and can't even keep their toilets in a usable state, it's time to revisit your priorities.2 points

...pitch your idea in here. Where would you put it? Exact location. What would the name be? The park direction/theming? The rides? The attractions? I would probably get the rights for Jurassic Park/World and build a whole theme park based on that. Tours in mini orange 4WD's with the BEST animatronic dinosaurs in the business, a rapids ride through a lush tropical landscape with more animatronic dinosaurs, like at Universal Studios. I'd have several coasters mostly all B&Ms (Hyper, Floorless, Inverted, etc). The Hyper would be at the front and center of the park intersecting with a lot of the landscape and the tour based rides. I'd spend a shitload of money on the theming/landscape and i'd want lots of water features. I'd also have ziplines and adventure courses and of course lots of well themed flate rides. I'd put it in the Gold Coast hinterland somewhere where we'd be allowed. Or maybe i would buy Dreamworld at a bargain basement price, sell off all the rides and put the theme park there. We could make use of the canal and already cleared land.1 point

Stage 2 actually just finished. Stage 1 consisted of both Funnel Web & Banjo's Billabong. So for what I think Stage 3 will consist of - basing it on what Jamberoo has said so far - it will be Koala Creek & Platypus River next year.1 point

Incorrect? on what basis? Just your opinion? Some brands may think it prudent and follow suit, but not all would. And I said another brand OR setup. If they were not able to fill the facility with an alternative brand, they could no doubt fill it with their own cross branding - they still have associations with Mick Doohan, Peter Brock Museum, DW wildlife \ tiger \ conservation fund etc etc. And unless you've got a copy of the contract stipulating the cost share, i don't buy the 50% claim. it would be unusual for a brand to commit to infrastructure costs on a property they do not own as if the contract was terminated, they would have to walk away from the funds invested (i'm talking about 2 years down the track for example rather than during construction). Usually in a partnership such as this, the property owner commits to the infrastructure (because they will own it) and the brand commits their IP. each would have a comparable value for a joint venture, and each could still walk away from the venture with the property that they entered the venture in.1 point

*puts 2 and 2 together with current profile image of Sea Shepherd* oh. you're one of those. I must say @liz.wis's theory is looking more and more likely. i'd be interested in an admin checking the IP, although if it is, at least you've moderated your views somewhat to suit the community a little better. Anyway.. good on you for not listing those reasons. experience suggests it opens a can of worms that nobody enjoys and nobody wins.1 point

I don't think there needs to be a choice here. On a hot day, nothing is better than sliding down a flume and splashing into the cool refreshing water, or floating down a lazy river... but coasters go fast, high, invert, and above all, aren't something to avoid on a cold day. it's like asking if someone prefers ice blocks or diesel. each has their purpose, and there isn't really a direct comparison per se. IMO anyway.1 point

A local blogger did a bit of research on Atlantis here: http://www.katierebekah.com.au/adventure/thereturntoatlantis/ I love the 1980s video of the park. Also of note is the report on what happened to the dolphins after the park closed - it's tragic, but fascinating reading. But we didn't just have Atlantis. We also had Pioneer World, El Caballo, Dizzy Lamb Park, Bullens Lion Safari, It's a Small World and Elizabethan Village.1 point

you can't live life in fear. Thousands die on the road each year, families could be forgiven for worrying everytime they get behind the wheel that their kids could be hurt, but you cautiously move on. Most of the general public understand that a freak accident took place. The chance of a freak accident occurring again is no more likely to happen at DW as it is at any other park, and I think that's fairly common knowledge.1 point

Not trying to be annoying here but im about to drop the statistics bomb: Village Roadshow operates Sea World & Sea World Resort & Water Park, Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet ’n’ Wild on the Gold Coast. For the year ending June 2015, the three operations of Village Roadshow recorded a 1.4% decrease in income. Income in the year ending June 2015 reached a total of $278.5 million. Visitor numbers for the year ending June 2015 amounted to 5.2 million, representing a decline of 3.8% compared with the previous financial year (see Table 13). The Ardent Leisure Group Theme Parks include Dreamworld, White Water World, and the SkyPoint Observation Deck and SkyPoint Climb. In June 2015, Dreamworld launched ABC kids world. For the second time, in 2014 Dreamworld was awarded Queensland's Best Major Tourist Attraction at the Queensland Tourism Awards and the third most popular tourist attraction at the annual Australian Tourism Awards. However, due to decreased per capita spending, overall revenue decreased slightly (by 0.6%) to $99.5 million. Visitor numbers increased by 11.7% to 2.28 million during the 2014/2015 financial year. (This is the end of the 2015 financial year, but with the new installations of Tiger Island, Doomsday Destroyer, Aqua 8 Racers Re-Vamp and a new rollercoaster, IMO, Seaworld are doing completely fine at the moment, and Dreamworld are taking the right approach to the incident so I honestly think there wont be a very large slump in visitors.) The chance of you dying on a ride is 1 in 500 trillion, im not dying on a ride anytime soon.1 point

Ok take 2 you also forgot the B&M, RMC, refurbished by mack, walk through, dark ride, monorail, Giga, Starta, world class, steel extreme coaster with massive fountains and loads of plants themed to a wacky worm eating a churros while talking to the Dip'N'dots guy. (Did I forget anything?)1 point

Richard's correct. I have an old brochure somewhere for Dreamworld from when The Giant Drop opened. It stated $12M was the cost IF they had built it as a standalone attraction. I guess they thought that it sounded more impressive.1 point

DW has done a great job in the past couple of years in revitalising the park. Whilst there have been no signature rides installed, the overall park itself and it's offerings are greatly improved1 point

AIM Pinnacle Award Winner for Customer Service Excellence Adventure World was last night awarded the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) Pinnacle Award for Customer Service Excellence at Crown Perth, acknowledging the theme park’s outstanding results, leadership, and commitment to excellence in customer service. This latest accolade comes immediately off the back of Adventure World being awarded the Training Initiative Award in October for the third year running and thereby qualifying for induction into the Hall of Fame at the AHA – AON Hotel and Hospitality Awards for Excellence. Adventure World were also finalists in the WA Perth Airport Tourism awards and based on Trip Advisor ratings for the past two seasons, has been the highest rated major Theme Park or Water Park in all of Australia* Mark Shaw, Adventure World CEO, stated that it was an honour for the park to be judged as a leader across all industry in WA. “Delivering a consistent and high quality guest service experience is something we are all passionate about at Adventure World. We believe the hard working people of WA deserve to be welcomed by warm, attentive and engaging staff every time” Mr Shaw said “We generally recruit about 1 in 7 attendees to our auditions and interviews which means we can hand pick the really lovely high energy people, the kind of people who get a kick out of seeing others having a fantastic day out. Team members receive approximately 30 hours of training and inductions followed by on the spot coaching. Positive behaviours are rewarded with strong recognition programs. We also actively engage and empower every team member to take ownership of our common purpose to ‘create happiness and magical memories’ for our guests.” The accolades come at a time when the park is preparing to launch its newest attraction – “Cirque Extreme!” a high adrenaline 30 minute** show under the big top, with 2 free show’s daily*** for guests to enjoy, kicking off on 18th December through to the end of the summer school holidays. Work is also quietly progressing in the background on the secret $7.5m “Mi3” world class attraction coming next September.1 point

I simply don't agree. From a thrill seekers point of view their new rides and attractions haven't geared toward me. Possibly families and young kids/teens but the park is in desperate need of a thrilling full length coaster.-1 points

I don't know the actual figures but i strongly feel Sea World is on a massive decline at the moment as is Dream World and DW will likely have a massive loss next financial year. Movie World is obviously going to slay even harder next year and WNW is always constant. Aussie World is also on the uptick.-5 points

And by ever, i mean in OUR lifetime, so say in the next 50-60 years. I think it will. I heard they own land in Australia and have scouted for possible locations for a theme park. So they've definitely shown interest but it seems at this stage that it's a no go.-5 points
