Today's update. From what I've seen today, it does give me confidence that it could be ready in time for Christmas6 points
-
I freakin' love that "Jingeri" is one of the biggest and most prominent welcomes at the front entrance (it means greetings in the local Yugambeh language for those of you playing at home) and that they've dedicated a huge banner to DWF. Can't wait to checkout what other changes the park has made.5 points

Christmas decorations have been installed out the front, new sign and don't know if it's me, but it seems the road lines have been repainted too. And there were also a couple of guys on the gondolas of the GD at the top of the tower.3 points

Was this something I missed at the time? I haven't read anything suggesting this. The only quote I could find even vaguely on the results of the re-enactment appears to suggest the opposite: https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2016/nov/01/dreamworld-deaths-coroner-sees-re-enactment-of-fatal-ride I don't think there's any doubt that design, modification, maintenance and operational issues were the cause here. While the consensus here seems to be that it was a freak accident, I'd lean to it being a perfect storm of issues and entirely preventable were the ride properly designed and operated. That it passed its certification isn't a vindication of Dreamworld; it's an indictment of the inspection and certification process.2 points

Okay, now this I don't agree with, the operators were NOT dodgy and it was NOT the operators first day at the park! She was the main operator of the Tower Of Terror, and was over at the TRR being trained with the main operator to learn how to operate it, the operators aren't dodgy at all, and if you think that, then read the article stating that each and every operator was given an extensive training course covering EVERYTHING. This is something that pisses me off, because I do my research, most people just read off the media. But you are fine to Boycott the place, judge all you like!2 points

Slide pieces are beginning to be preoattef for installation, with a crane on site and workmen joining pieces together. The red pieces will be at the top of the slide, and the rest will be yellow and blue2 points

Here's some photos of footers from today (approximately 210 of them), with soil layed now and some work still happening towards AA. And the footer in the carpark is complete2 points

Here you go... Earlier this month police concluded their investigation as to what caused the Thunder River Rapids Ride to malfunction. However investigators were reported to be unable to recreate the freak conditions that led to the accident. An inquest is likely to be held in the first half of next year. From: http://www.news.com.au/news/dreamworld-issued-three-prohibition-notices-over-buzzsaw-ride-during-whsq-audit/news-story/d005999940acb5077b5995bda959e6cd1 point

Okay. I thought you were one of those people diving into the media's crap. In terms of that revelation about the Cyclone thing, i totally agree, that was a BAD move by DW.1 point

Haha, wouldn't we all? I kinda used to think that if Movieworld went Belly Up it would be the PERFECT place for a universal studios. But now that i think about it, Dreamworld would be a better candidate! Tower of Terror was my favourite ride when I was 6 and will always be one of my favourites. Just hoping they bring out a Tower of Terror 3, where the cart spins the whole time, or Goes backwards the whole time, by turning at the top.1 point

^ Since there's only one footer in the car park, I don't think it'll become a car park coaster. In other news, I was at MW the other day and from the top of superman you can see a straight section of footers running diagonally from the direction of the service road, towards the studios. I'd assume this is for the station. There's also some work going on behind the JL building, which may be for an access point from the superman/AA area.1 point

I wouldn't be surprised if Disney is seriously considering making an offer to buy Dreamworld. Obviously there'd be a lot of work to do on it, but they'd basically have a functioning park to start with, and Ardent have said recently they'd be happy to consider a really good offer. It would get around issues like there already being enough parks in the gold coast and avoid them having to find suitable land and start from scratch. I think if it's gonna happen anytime in the next 20 years that's the most likely way it would.1 point

I hear what you're saying @jake_hunt but i think its far easier to see the differences in a coaster than it is a waterslide. One has one funnel, the other has three, and two of the three are enclosed. same rafts, same colour scheme, very similar ride experience, ones just a triple repetition of the other. A cobra roll can be inverted or sit down, launched or chain lift, shuttle or full circuit - each of which gives a very different experience to the rider. They can also be on Vekoma, Intamin, B&M etc - with each manufacturer doing things slightly differently which also contributes to a different experience. A tornado funnel, apart from the size itself, isn't much different from one to the other. Enclosing them and adding some strobes doesn't really change overall (especially when the enclosure is so bright so as to almost negate the flash lighting in the first place). I do get what you're saying, and they are, in essence, completely different concepts to the manufacturer and indeed to the park, but from a guest perspective, they look the same, and the ride experience you get from both of them would be very similar. I mean, you're not going to go and build a Vekoma Boomerang, and a Vekoma Giant Inverted Boomerang side by side in the same park, even though (as I've said above) they'd deliver a different experience... You'd go with one or the other. You wouldn't build MDMC right next to Jet Rescue - they're the same model, but with some arguable differences, but to the public they would really regard them as pretty much the same ride. You wouldn't put a Disk'O Coaster next to a GyroSwing #OhShit #Wait #Nevermind...1 point

@GoGoBoy, if that is The Perfect Storm fully completed, they got to make it heaps darker than that! Especially if they want the lighting effects to be seen in their full glory! True but this is what they mean: Stage 2 of 4 - Ride/Attraction 3 of 7. Also: The Perfect Storm, I believe, has been completed (check out that theming!)... ... as Jamberoo launches a new television commercial for the peak summer season: GIF/YouTube video from Jamberoo Action Park's website/YouTube channel.1 point

http://www.parkz.com.au/forums/search/?&q=disney&type=forums_topic&search_in=titles I'm just going to leave that there. TLDR, this topic has been done to death, resurrected, shot, killed, burried again, resurrected again ad nauseum. Here are the cliffnotes: They've tried many times in many different places and different state governments haven't given Disney the subsidies on land or tax they need to make it work They've tried to create smaller resorts and precincts but we just don't have the population or the spend to support something small, let alone a full blown magic kingdom We're not printing money like China is right now Did I mention the population? Because we don't have the population for it. At this point, given I could spend $300 on a budget airline and be at one of THREE magic kingdoms within 8 hours, it's neither here or there for most people in terms of location anymore. For most local and interstate tourists, the market tends to corroborate that they're not willing to spend Disney money in Australia right now. Disney overseas as part of a bigger holiday? Yes. Here? No. Basically, we need to become a smarter nation with more focus in services to have more spend on longer recreation & leisure, and we need a lot more of us to do that AND we need a government with a strong focus on tourism who's willing to make long term concessions just to get the ball rolling, and even then it needs to make fiscal sense, which I still think it won't, and you'll find data from the likes of @Richard @joz in about a dozen other threads who will support this.1 point

I'd take the best parts of USJ & DisneySea and build a large new theme park resort out at near Caloundra. Build it around a large man-made lake that you can do shows and events from, integrate the resort and shopping directly into the front of the park Mira-Costa style, have multiple lands around the lake, some Australian, some more world themed or IP-themed, and most importantly of all i'd have a few multi-purpose showstages that could also have outside access so that small sections of the park can be used at night for entertainment independantly of the park (think having multiple gates to a park that also serve as hubs for things like Top Golf, Main Event, showstages for Cirque Du Soleil etc.). Without a doubt i'd have a Gerstlauer Eurofighter or something new from Intamin or Mack. The drop tower that BGT has that faces the ground? Definitely on the list. If S&S ever get around to refining their 4th dimension product, i'd buy it in a heartbeat.1 point

Kind of non news until mid next year, but this seems pretty cool none the less. http://bmag.com.au/your-brisbane/brisbane-extra/2016/12/06/brisbane-is-getting-the-southern-hemispheres-first-flying-theatre/ Brogent Technologies, a Taiwan-headquartered company that specialises in simulation technology, has announced its intention to bring its innovative i-Ride Flying Theatre to Brisbane. Brogent’s decision to bring its flying theatre to Brisbane follows their success with Fly Over Canada, which has become a popular tourist attraction in Vancouver. Brogent is in the process of identifying the ideal Brisbane location for its i-Ride Flying Theatre. Work on the project is expected to start in mid-2017. -------+ For reference: https://www.flyovercanada.com1 point

First POV I have seen from inside the recently enclosed Perfect Storm. Good to see there are some strobe effects. It would work better if it was darker inside the funnel though. Not sure if there are any sound effects. Starts at about 1:55.1 point

@Jamberoo Fan yea your probably right. Dax Eddie, executive director of jamberoo said in a video it was stage 3 of 7. However in the past it has been noted as stage 2 and the video seems it was done by a amateur reporter. Here is the video:1 point

One years numbers are pretty irrelevant, the trend over the longer term is up as the local population increases. Village achieved record profitability in the last few years, Movieworld alone passed 2 million for the first time ever recently, and whatever is going on at Sea World, the focus on Sea World Resort has seen an increase in occupancy. Dreamworld has been pretty flat over the past few years with capital being redirected into the park rather than flashy new rides. While you would expect the parks to suffer something of a hit this year, I have a hard time imagining numbers won't return to around trend levels within a couple years, and frankly doom and gloom talk is just muck raking, speculation, and trolling.1 point

Not trying to be annoying here but im about to drop the statistics bomb: Village Roadshow operates Sea World & Sea World Resort & Water Park, Warner Bros. Movie World and Wet ’n’ Wild on the Gold Coast. For the year ending June 2015, the three operations of Village Roadshow recorded a 1.4% decrease in income. Income in the year ending June 2015 reached a total of $278.5 million. Visitor numbers for the year ending June 2015 amounted to 5.2 million, representing a decline of 3.8% compared with the previous financial year (see Table 13). The Ardent Leisure Group Theme Parks include Dreamworld, White Water World, and the SkyPoint Observation Deck and SkyPoint Climb. In June 2015, Dreamworld launched ABC kids world. For the second time, in 2014 Dreamworld was awarded Queensland's Best Major Tourist Attraction at the Queensland Tourism Awards and the third most popular tourist attraction at the annual Australian Tourism Awards. However, due to decreased per capita spending, overall revenue decreased slightly (by 0.6%) to $99.5 million. Visitor numbers increased by 11.7% to 2.28 million during the 2014/2015 financial year. (This is the end of the 2015 financial year, but with the new installations of Tiger Island, Doomsday Destroyer, Aqua 8 Racers Re-Vamp and a new rollercoaster, IMO, Seaworld are doing completely fine at the moment, and Dreamworld are taking the right approach to the incident so I honestly think there wont be a very large slump in visitors.) The chance of you dying on a ride is 1 in 500 trillion, im not dying on a ride anytime soon.1 point

@SunshineTom But what about the thousands of families who said they will still support the park and ride the rides as they understand that it was a freak accident and that they believe it was not dreamworld's fault (despite the media scaring techniques) Read DW's facebook page to see these comments their are loads of them with families saying they wills till let their kids go on a ride. People die in car crashes does that mean parents will be worried that their kids will die in a car?1 point

Have you ever done a MEGARATE on a forum before? I haven't seen this done here yet so i do hope you can give me due credit for starting an original thread. Also, i think it will be interesting to see the results for this! HOW IT WORKS: Rate each of the following rides out of ten. You can use decimal points for accuracy. Example: 8.7, 5.3, etc. You are not allowed to gives 0. Obviously this indicates that you are trying to sway the votes in some way. Also, if you are obviously trying to sway the results in the favour of a ride, i will consult with the forum on whether the votes should be allowed or not. Please do not do this, rate each ride on its own merit and give each ride as much credit as possible. You mightn't like a ride or as much as another ride but don't give it a 1 "just because". PLEASE DO NOT POST YOUR RESULTS IN THIS THREAD, send me a PM with your results. After December 10, i will present a countdown from the lowest placed ride all the way to the highest placed ride. The thrill rides are based on their being listed as a thrill ride by the theme park. Water park rides not included. Buzzsaw Hot Wheels Sidewinder Mick Doohan's Motorcoaster Pandamonium Tail Spin The Claw The Giant Drop Tower Of Terror 2 WipeOut Arkham Asylum Superman Escape Batwing Spaceshot Scooby Doo Spooky Coaster Wild West Falls Green Lantern Coaster Doomsday Destroyer Storm Coaster Jet Rescue-1 points

I don't know the actual figures but i strongly feel Sea World is on a massive decline at the moment as is Dream World and DW will likely have a massive loss next financial year. Movie World is obviously going to slay even harder next year and WNW is always constant. Aussie World is also on the uptick.-1 points

I'm talking about DW when I say dodgy operators. They had Cyclone operating with just one staff member and their cost cutting was evident all throughout the park.-1 points

The photo you said isn't photoshopped is 100% photoshopped. Even Blind Freddy can see that. Get a grip lol. I'd say that is their projection for what the theming will look like AFTER it's finished.-1 points

They are only technically ticking all the right boxes because they have no bloody choice to. They literally can't open again until they tick all the right boxes, also they have to tick all the right boxes so the general public will come back again. It's certainly not out of good will.-2 points
