  1. Interview with the head of track devolopment & CEO of Mack. The CEO mentions the ride getting built at Movieworld at 9:30 & says it will be similar to Flash at Lewa with a custom layout. Nothing new to what we already assumed, but thought it was worth mentioning.

  2. I don't know why they haven't brought me in to be honest, I'm doing all the right things; relentlessly criticising the park in an online forum is the best way to get ahead right? Haha

  4. Wow so many great things in this! I love that they've included it in the entry price, because at this time of year the goal should be to keep the high spending tourists in the park for longer. Per caps take a hit when the park is busy as the shops just fill up and people bypass shopping, so spreading out people's departure should help with that, as well as help traffic which is a nightmare around 5pm in town. The cheap twilight tickets should help get some extra butts through the door at 5pm too! Also really looking forward to the 'Fish Detectives Masquerade Ball' show. Heard through the grapevine that there are no new animal behaviours, it's just a new script so it won't have cost them much, but for a show with a 3 week run that's fair enough I think and should be a good draw. Same with the 'Rhythm of the night' show on the main lake at the end of the night, live percussion music with water fountains low level pyro, fire, lasers and other special effects. Sounds like it could be really good fun! Finally, it's good that they're bringing in a couple temporary carnie rides to help fill the day out for guests, and have more to do at night, otherwise it's just 2 adult rides and a bunch of kiddie rides. New thrill ride and family ride are just what the doctor ordered. I'm glad they didn't just transport' Movie World's version of the event over, minus the parade and act like it's good. They've really adapted it for the park it's in. Sorry, I was so underwhelmed by what they announced that I just made up my own announcement.

  5. ......."and now for something completely different!" Whilst it's not a theme park, Surfers Paradise (and nearby locations) has a selection of incredible fun attractions. This just seems to keep getting bigger and better, to the point it's almost a shame there isn't an annual pass for all of them! So I thought I'd start a thread to discuss these attractions, and our experiences of them, and also any ideas for other attractions that could potentially be added. So here's what I'm aware of at this stage: Draculas Haunted House (Surfers) - Large spooky walk-through on several levels. https://www.draculashauntedhouse.com.au/ Infinity (Surfers) - 21st centru mirror mazes, and huge walk-through optical illusions. http://infinitygc.com.au/ Ripleys Believe it or Not (Surfers) - Walk through exhibition of the strange and weird. https://ticketssp.ripleys.com/surfersparadise/ItemShow.aspx?Grp=fOTQjkZL7HI=&Name=Tvj9gySvGVFQa0kKzTkfmQ==&s_kwcid=TC|1028741|ripleys||S|p|113271787868&gclid=CInD-eLk_NACFZcDKgodriYNwA Timezone (Surfers) - Advertised as the worlds biggest indoor entertainment complex. Massive amusement arcade, bowling, laser maze, dodgems, crazy golf, and much more. http://www.timezonegoldcoast.com.au/ I-Fly (Surfers) - Indoor 'flying' experience. http://www.indoorskydiveaustralia.com.au/developments/surfers-paradise/ Skypoint Observation Deck (Surfers) - The tallest residential building in the Southern Hemisphere (for now at least) with breathtaking views. https://www.skypoint.com.au/skypoint-observation-deck 7D cinemas (2 locations in Surfers) - Short videos where the seats move in sync with the show, and various other immersive effects to make you feel like you're in the movie. http://www.7dcinema.com.au/ Holoverse (in Southport, not Surfers, but not too far away and well worth the drive) - Advertised as the worlds first holographic entertainment centre. See things around you that aren't really there! http://holoverse.com.au/?gclid=CJz1_JTl_NACFQp-vQod_FUCCA (Opening very soon) Fun360 (Surfers) - A range of interactive experiences including flight simulator, 2-person 3d pacman game, and more http://www.fun360.com.au

  6. Themeparkfan wasn't asking what rides their family member could go on. They've instead highlighted the growing lack of family rides.

  8. The spit as exists now is mostly man made. Wavebreak island is entirely man made, as is the seaway. Before the seaway was built, the original bar moved around, less than 100 years ago it was about where the southport yacht club is now. At some point they decided to build the seaway and Wavebreak island. As MickeyD said, this stabilised the sea entrance and allowed the spit and the southern end of south stradbroke to form. I do believe that there has been significant reclamation of land to make the spit more useful as well. I know there are pictures on these forums that show the significant amount of broadwater that sea world has taken over. But Alex, you are right when you said it was entirely natural until the seaway was built.

  10. I don't believe so - although it has changed alot in the past 200 years, I believe it to be the product of environmental factors, sediment deposits from estuarine flows \ ocean currents and the like. I had a quick look around and these might give some more info: http://www.goldcoastaustralia.com/media/documents/Environmental_History_of_the_Spit_-_Broadwater.pdf And this http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/thegoldcoast/the-spit-history-2787.html edit: ok on reread you said 'reclaimed' not 'man made' so i guess technically it is 'reclaimed' depending on your view of the word - but it is entirely natural formation - at least up until the GC Seaway was built...

  11. Yep, the bigger rides will be perceived to be more dangerous, so the general public will expect them to take longer to check. If you open the "dangerous" rides first, it makes the image management more difficult.

  13. I've not taken my tape measure with me, but if you compare it to say - Silver Bullet at Knotts, it is far more comfortable, roomy and accommodating. Additionally, as i've found with many of the Disney coasters - more room is available because they allow for loose articles (ie backpacks) to ride with you, so they design for that too. In all honesty, even if Grizzly is PRECISELY the same size as Silver bullet it doesn't matter - my point is that just like airlines, all any park has to do is SPECIFY certain minimums. I know a lot of coaster manufacturers have certain standards, but surely it wouldn't be too difficult to customise here and there.

  15. Was a fun night. Buffet was definitely well worth it! The elf treasure hunt game for the kids was great, apart from the 40min queue to pick up your prize. I thought the 'lighting' ceremony/switch-on was a let down compared to prior years shows (especially last years). They basically just turned them on. No countdown etc.. the parade also appears to get smaller each year, with elves stopping for dance routines the only thing stopping it from being a 5min parade. The snow/bubbles seemed to have been increased which was a cool addition, and I liked that Santa village and associated activities were in the Western area as it opened the park up a little to absorbing the guests. Having SDSC down though at a family event is not ideal.. All in all i'd probably put it slightly behind last years event, with only the elf activity (and the buffet) stopping it IMO from being well down.

  17. ? I was confused for a moment there. I agree with most of your points and I hope this is not a replacement for the MW event and if it is then a better event is planned. I wish for an expanded version of the DC Villans Parade that was offered a few years back. Price point is good, although agree it should be free for day guests. I am excited about seeing the park at night, having experienced an Anzac Day when they opened to 7pm IIRC was great,

  19. My hope is that with Carnivale moving to Sea World, that makes room for another night themed event at Movie World. Any idea's of what the new night event could or should be if they do it?

  20. Yes but is this an additional event or a replacement?

  21. It feels too controlled and gives no swinging or free falling experience, at least not how it has been experienced so far. I have spoken about this already in previous reviews.. The unique Villian's area as a whole is a vast improvement, easily enough. I believe the ride experience of DD itself has somewhat missed the mark for what it was meant to offer - Villians themselves should be surprising and chaotic characters and the ride is controlled, anything but. The ride itself is capable of producing more power so during it's downtime I hope they explore it's capabilities to offer a more 'Dynamic' experience this Holiday period.
