  2. Agreed, especially considering the park's other big coasters aren't themed to DC charac.... oh wait... Well maybe you're still right, you know, given it's not next to any other DC rides... oh FFS.

  5. All, After 6 fantastic, beautiful years at AW I am no longer with the Park. ? I have loved the enthusiasm and support you guys have shown for the park and long may it continue. The team at AW are amazing so I'm sure the future will be bright. I hope the future 6 years are as exciting as the past. Thanks for your incredible support. Best at wishes to all. Mark.

  7. Nah, they're leaving the theme park business. Rumour has it the site will become "The Greatest Churro Factory The Southern Hemisphere Has Ever Seen".

  8. Received a Wet 'n' Wild Sydney brochure today. This is part of what it reads: Is this them acknowledging the park isn't up to the general public's expectations only after 3 years of operations? Better than no acknowledgement I suppose...

  9. Noticed there is some ground work happening around the back of the smoking area near SE on Saturday... We believe at this point the station is the straight area of yellow running towards the JL3D bulding... The red is where ground works were happening... That would mean the orange points would have to be the most likely entrance points for the coaster... Would one be more likely than the other for any reason or could we see them use both as another way to get around this section of the park?

  10. Sad to hear! I've known about Adventure World for a long time, but it really wasn't on my radar until your stewardship. It wasn't just the fact that you posted on here, but all the recent reviews of the park and the last years results have proven that you get it. I hope you go on to a long career in the theme park industry in Australia, hopefully on the Gold Coast

  11. Just came back from the 4pm show of Cirque Extreme, AW's seasonal offering. I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. I think what we seriously have to ask ourselves here is, 'why isn't this show on at Movie World?' The tent is massive, bigger than anything I've seen at the Fringe Festival. The front half is the foyer, where there's a make shift queue area (which will be needed) and a kiosk of sorts. Then there's the air conditioned auditorium, which can seat a couple of hundred people (AW's advertising says 650). The show is billed as going half an hour, but runs closer to 40 minutes. Before the show, there are a couple of likely lads with supersoakers quietly spraying unsuspecting members of the audience, similar to Waterworld at Universal. AW is also smart enough to have a couple of photographers on hand taking pictures of patrons and then scanning it to their wristbands. They're also selling tubs of fairy floss and popcorn. The show is broken down into a number of acts, starting with the impressive wheel of death. With each act you start off thinking 'that's pretty amazing' and then they top it again. It's a real family affair too: the performers range in age from a young boy to an older couple. After burlesque dancers, a lady with a fire gun, magic tricks and contortion acts, it climaxes with the high wire. The performances are seriously impressive and with a few tweaks could be used as a sequel of sorts to the Maverick Magic and Illusion Show at Movie World. I think Cirque Extreme is original and a lot of fun. Adventure World should build a permanent venue to house these guys. Congratulations, Mark, this is something special. (apologies for the iPhone pics - will have to get some better ones when I visit next time).

  12. Is it the old urban legend about the young kid that went missing at (insert marine park/zoo/aquarium) for a few hours, turned up soaking wet but was spooked and wouldn't say a word about what happened on the drive home. Then was found later that night playing with a penguin in their bedroom that they'd put in their backpack?

  16. Sad to hear you go @Mark Shaw - you're one of the few folks in the industry that's impossibly hard to fault in terms of what you've built in your time at Adventure World. Abyss is easily the best bang for buck thrill ride any park in Australia has built in the last decade, and your hands-on approach through so many facets of the experience including dealing with us is admirable. Here's hoping we see you at the helm of something on the east coast soon.

  17. It's actually funnier that they haven't. It'll be like, 'who is he talking to?' Yeah @Brad2912, I've changed my mind about it too. He might end up on the Gold Coast, but that might not have been the plan. I don't want to even speculate, anymore. Good luck, Mark.

  19. Sorry to hear that Mark, Adventure World will be certainly poorer for you leaving it!! The park is certainly in far better condition than it was when you started 6 years ago and you have set them on the path to be a brilliant park in the future. Your legacy at Adventure World is certainly enshrined! Hopefully you get to stay within the themepark industry in Australia so that you can work your magic elsewhere ( Luna Park Sydney or Melbourne is in definite need of your skill and deft managerial hand!) Thanks for being so open with the enthusiast community- I know we have all appreciated your candour and posts that you have brought to the table here on Parkz. I certainly hope you will remain a member and post from time to time and I think we all wish you well in your future ventures!! Good luck and much success to you!!
