Just came back from the 4pm show of Cirque Extreme, AW's seasonal offering. I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting, but it wasn't this. I think what we seriously have to ask ourselves here is, 'why isn't this show on at Movie World?' The tent is massive, bigger than anything I've seen at the Fringe Festival. The front half is the foyer, where there's a make shift queue area (which will be needed) and a kiosk of sorts. Then there's the air conditioned auditorium, which can seat a couple of hundred people (AW's advertising says 650). The show is billed as going half an hour, but runs closer to 40 minutes. Before the show, there are a couple of likely lads with supersoakers quietly spraying unsuspecting members of the audience, similar to Waterworld at Universal. AW is also smart enough to have a couple of photographers on hand taking pictures of patrons and then scanning it to their wristbands. They're also selling tubs of fairy floss and popcorn. The show is broken down into a number of acts, starting with the impressive wheel of death. With each act you start off thinking 'that's pretty amazing' and then they top it again. It's a real family affair too: the performers range in age from a young boy to an older couple. After burlesque dancers, a lady with a fire gun, magic tricks and contortion acts, it climaxes with the high wire. The performances are seriously impressive and with a few tweaks could be used as a sequel of sorts to the Maverick Magic and Illusion Show at Movie World. I think Cirque Extreme is original and a lot of fun. Adventure World should build a permanent venue to house these guys. Congratulations, Mark, this is something special. (apologies for the iPhone pics - will have to get some better ones when I visit next time).2 points

I hope they utilise the GL JL area. I've always felt like its a bit of a dead end. Maybe for the opening of the coaster, VRTP could add some of the interactive elements similar to the ones in the Villains precinct, but themed to heroes.2 points

Agreed, especially considering the park's other big coasters aren't themed to DC charac.... oh wait... Well maybe you're still right, you know, given it's not next to any other DC rides... oh FFS.2 points

i've never noticed any congestion when we went there. in fact it's a lot more convenient we move from BW to SE to ARK.1 point

^Yeah to my knowledge that is what they did. But I did never see any scaffolding, so maybe they used a scissor-lift or were able to do most of it from the stairs.1 point

Looking at the comments so far are we assuming the coaster will load and unload on the same side? What if you walked under the lift hill to the queue line and then exited on the other side. Both the JL/GL and SE pathways would serve as access to the coaster and keep the entry/exit areas within close proximity for the non riders waiting for others.1 point

Hi Jobe, i have somewhat hijacked your Manly Fun Pier thread as it contained info related to the Kings Cross Minotaur's Maze (the ONLY info regarding it in the entire internet!), my apologies and I'll look at starting a new thread regarding that. I hope it might be ok we continue that discussion as its so very hard to find info or anyone and what's happened here is now there is finally some dialog so I don't want to lose it. It was such a rare and unique attraction. Meanwhile back on topic yes I remember the Manly Fun Pier! I'm from SA so have only a couple days experience of it. First time was around '74 when we pulled into the Manly pier via ferry and it was so awesome being a kid and seeing such a fun place right on the next pier. From the ferry you could see the backside of the Ghost Train which normally wouldn't mean anything except this one had doors in that side where the cars burst through by the water then returned back inside the ride. It also had a rotating house (these are called mad houses) that flipped over upside down very clearly visible from the ferry pier too. The octopus was unique in having arms that if I remember correctly literally went over the water! I was with adults visiting Manly and just a kid, we didn't go into the fun pier that visit. Several years later we returned and the pier was quite in bad shape by then. It seemed very run down. The ghost train building was still there but not only was it not operating, they put pinball machines in its entrance where you would normally board trains! That just seemed so tacky and "off"!! I ride the octopus that day and u could barely get it to spin, it took all my effort to get any spin or fun out of it. I went into the fun house which was cool with its moving walkways etc (grease!!) and it included entry into the still operating "madhouse" rotating house. Was always fascinated by the memory of that and wondered what was inside. Mystery finally revealed it was simply a platform suspended inside as the house rotated upside down etc around you. But the illusion that YOU were being flipped over was very very good. My sister couldn't keep her eyes open it was totally freaking her out! I later learned this is the type of ride that was another that fascinated me that I hadn't gone inside as a kid which was "Moon Tripper" seen at Royal shows in the 70s, shaped as a spherical moon instead of a house but the same principal. Did the mirror maze and got our ribbons! A fun visit but clearly the places golden years had long passed and this was still I think late 70s! visited the shark aquarium next door too, which also felt it was well on the way out. I was a kid seeking fun and amusements (we had zilch in Adelaide!) and even to me it had that feeling of being very very dated even though my hopes were up. Still, it WAS fun and the thing with these amusement piers and seaside amusement areas something just brings it all together and works, something about the atmosphere of combining the waterside and fun amusement areas makes it very special. So rare now! I now live in California. Los Angeles used to have a TON of MAJOR amusement piers. (Google Pacific Ocean Park, incredible!) All gone now except the minor amusement park on Santa Monica pier. But back in the 20s- 50s? Incredible stuff. California now has just Santa Monica, Belmont Park in Mission Beach San Diego (an excellent seaside amusement park I am lucky enough to visit) and The Boardwalk in Santa Cruz. Luckily the latter two's beautiful wooden seaside rollercoasters are heritage listed and now protected. Glad Sydney still has Luna Park right on the harbor, a shadow of its former self but still a great waterside amusement atmosphere. But it's sad Manly Fun Pier is no more. I got a third visit to the area much later when only a merry go round remained in an area I could not recognize at all. The old had gone completely. Thanks for posting your pictures and starting this special thread!1 point

In that case it was a different story to the one I heard about allegedly occurring during trading hours.1 point

Noticed there is some ground work happening around the back of the smoking area near SE on Saturday... We believe at this point the station is the straight area of yellow running towards the JL3D bulding... The red is where ground works were happening... That would mean the orange points would have to be the most likely entrance points for the coaster... Would one be more likely than the other for any reason or could we see them use both as another way to get around this section of the park?1 point

Sad to hear you go @Mark Shaw - you're one of the few folks in the industry that's impossibly hard to fault in terms of what you've built in your time at Adventure World. Abyss is easily the best bang for buck thrill ride any park in Australia has built in the last decade, and your hands-on approach through so many facets of the experience including dealing with us is admirable. Here's hoping we see you at the helm of something on the east coast soon.1 point

It's assumed "hero" until the plans get leaked further or someone who's seen them confirms/hints at where the entry/exit will be located, then yes, IF the entrance is over the back, the villain theme will make more sense.1 point

Just bought season passes for my partner and I for Xmas.. CAN'T WAIT to spend more time back at DW over the next year and show my support and gratitude for the years of happy memories?1 point

I don't know why they haven't brought me in to be honest, I'm doing all the right things; relentlessly criticising the park in an online forum is the best way to get ahead right? Haha1 point

Wow so many great things in this! I love that they've included it in the entry price, because at this time of year the goal should be to keep the high spending tourists in the park for longer. Per caps take a hit when the park is busy as the shops just fill up and people bypass shopping, so spreading out people's departure should help with that, as well as help traffic which is a nightmare around 5pm in town. The cheap twilight tickets should help get some extra butts through the door at 5pm too! Also really looking forward to the 'Fish Detectives Masquerade Ball' show. Heard through the grapevine that there are no new animal behaviours, it's just a new script so it won't have cost them much, but for a show with a 3 week run that's fair enough I think and should be a good draw. Same with the 'Rhythm of the night' show on the main lake at the end of the night, live percussion music with water fountains low level pyro, fire, lasers and other special effects. Sounds like it could be really good fun! Finally, it's good that they're bringing in a couple temporary carnie rides to help fill the day out for guests, and have more to do at night, otherwise it's just 2 adult rides and a bunch of kiddie rides. New thrill ride and family ride are just what the doctor ordered. I'm glad they didn't just transport' Movie World's version of the event over, minus the parade and act like it's good. They've really adapted it for the park it's in. Sorry, I was so underwhelmed by what they announced that I just made up my own announcement.1 point

they should be focusing on building a new coaster not a lame lego store selling over-priced plastic brickz for kidz-1 points
