I know lots. But fear mongering gets us no where. Contrary to popular belief, the park's actually been doing solid numbers. Not peak season numbers, nor did anyone nor should anyone expect those kinds of numbers, particularly when over half of the major thrill rides are closed. However, the last time I went, this is what the park looked like... But you're right, doom & gloom sell much more adspace then positive happy stories do.8 points

What is actually wrong with you mate? Like do you need meds? Should you possibly spend some time in a special facility with soft walls? Youre not even a good troll, because a troll gets people to fire up and cause arguments. You are just at the point where everyone just dismisses anything you even say. We really care less, you're just a sad sad person. Literally no one here cares about you whatsoever.7 points

I was at Dreamworld yesterday and can report the park had a great attendance. I arrived at 530pm. For those who like carpark reports it was 85% full with people still arriving. You didn't have to go far to find a crowds of people on rides and at the entertainment performances. I saw the beatbox show twice last year and noticed the crowd was larger for the fire machine show last night. Dreamworld do seem to be putting guests first as they moved the fire machine show starting time to 7pm so guests could experience it before the rain started. I am not concerned about the newspaper report. Dreamworld has only been open for a couple of weeks so of course their attendance is down. Also holiday makers have just started to arrive on the Gold Coast after Christmas. it is not just the parks but the whole of the Gold Coast that has been quiet, just like every other year up till now. So while the trolls are stuck in doors righting their negative views, I will continue visiting the parks I enjoy and support.6 points

Kudos to @Slick and Ourworlds for this amazing article. Telling it actually like it is, without the fake media spin... http://ourworlds.co/no-dreamworlds-not-really-ghost-town/4 points

@SunshineTom you realise you are on a theme park enthusiast website. Yet you come here to bag theme parks. Of course this is not going to end well. (for you)2 points

Alton Towers was still reporting visitor numbers being down over a year after their accident. It was never going to be a quick recovery. Hopefully once all rides are open it'll start recovering a bit more. But they'd be stupid to use visitor numbers from any point during the next year or so to warrant a reconsideration regarding the parks future.2 points

Maybe it's going to SeaWorld to sit in a garden bed for photo ops... Credit TPSN for the photo...2 points

The GC theme parks have delegated authority to works within their gates which means council doesn't need to sign off on the plans, nor is there public consultation periods. They obviously still have guidelines with height/noise that may require council involvement/approvals. Its not out of the realms of feasibility that VTP could contact a few manufacturers to find one with an opening, purchase and we have a ride or 2 in 2017, especially if all we are talking about is flats to get the ride count up2 points

The Fire Machine is a must do. Honestly, even if you just go on a couple of rides, have something to eat and watch the fire Machine show. It'll be definitely worth it. Also the rides are very cool at night, especially the buzz saw. Defineltly give it a try2 points

The timing on which they have closed the ride is during possibly the most popular time for tourists. With that said, its obvious Movie World wasn't fully expecting for the changes to have to be made, otherwise they would have been made before holidays. With that said, if you were a tourist, and you visited Movie World, would you be more dissapointed if you couldn't ride sdsc at all, or if you could ride but without scenery. So from a tourist standpoint it's a better outcome than a complete closing of the ride. I understand the standards of village roadshow theme parks and how they aren't met with the current state of the ride, but in the long run, more people got to experience the sdsc. And if you were a tourist, although you would be dissapoined, it wouldn't be as bad of an experience if you hadn't rode before. That's my opinion2 points

So I discovered we don't have a dedicated thread for the maze. We do have a general water parks in Perth thread but not for the maze. So Today tonight did a story regarding water parks in Perth and they mentioned that the maze has got approval fro another 2 water slide towers for the older kids that should be built soon.1 point

Blind denialists of what? You seem to know what the future holds. This scenario has never happened before - no one knows what the outcome will be. The way you use 'facts' is like Malcolm Roberts of the One Nation Party - very selectively.1 point

It's sad we don't have people like @Slick writing articles like these for the big media companies. It tells the last week from the perspective of an actual visitor to the park and delivering 100% fact with no urge to get clickbait, without the Murdoch press twisting it to be an otherwise fake article dependent on clickbait. I don't read OurWorlds much, but this time I read the article and it tells much more facts than a comparable Murdoch/Packer/Fairfax article. Well done @Slick.1 point

@POP I fail to understand how you get your jollys out of dissing an iconic and much loved Aussie brand purely for the sake of getting attention through contempt and utter distain from everyone other than your own alter egos! By continuing to only contribute mindless negativity you are showing everyone what a complete and utter unit you are, over and over again!! C'mon mate it's a new year so how's about turning that frown upside down and say something positive for once?1 point

@SunshineTom you should read @Slick's/ourworlds article. http://ourworlds.co/no-dreamworlds-not-really-ghost-town/1 point

The 7 million dollar figure comes from most of the news reports which i believe is just the initial $300k per day loss x the length of the closure and then rounded to make it a nice number for reporting. No idea how that 300k figure was calculated or how accurate it is.1 point

Your maths is correct, but your common sense is missing. Do you not realise that monthly revenue means average monthly revenue. Which means monthly revenue in peak season will be above this figure and monthly revenue in off-peak season will be below. Park has only been in peak season for about a week, since what you have calculated has been based off most of the off-season period your calculations are completely invalid (and additionally, I have no clue where you got the 2/3 attendance figure from).1 point

@Tim Dasco as I said, history has shown with the construction time line of many new rides at our Parks. I was not referring to waitlists and time taken ordering rides in etc. As @Brad2912 mentioned a new flats can be bought off the shelf and installed quickly (as DW has done countless times historically). Looking at the current Hypercoaster project at MW, months of it's installation have been spent on surveying, levelling and reconfiguring the existing landscape. If it wasn't for this need the whole project time frame could have been likely halved, as was the case of LW which was a stock standard Vekoma suspended coaster with the exception of the Horizontal loop - a first for the brand. In the case of Lethal, the levelling of the land was also far simpler. It was originally a gentle slope from the Studio Commissary down to the now Superman show building. You will all have no doubt seen the hill cut away between the Canteen and the first drop. So customising the ride as well as the land to accommodate it can and does have a dramatic affect on the time line. Eliminating these issues by ordering off the shelf as well as having available land ready to go (SW) and you can most definately install in a few short months. Not years.1 point

So your independent research involved looking at the last financial years results.. hmm seams pretty definitive then. Without the exact figures and information which would be confidential to Dream World until released in their results, there's no way to know exactly what the damage is. Just because gross revenue is down, it doesn't automatically result in gross profit dropping. Whilst not exactly 1:1 - the fact half the park is not operating would be reducing overheads considerably. I would also hope they had some form of business continuity insurance in place that will pay out and cover things like staffing costs and a contribution towards the lack of sales. I expect things like insurance increases etc would not yet have been incurred. To my knowledge there's been no formal outcome from the investigation released. Which means there's no at fault determination that can be used. Well.. yes..1 point

Today tonight have done a story about Cirque Extreme with some hints regarding MI3.1 point

I personally chalk it up to the rides not being open. I wouldn't buy a ticket to visit at the moment solely on that basis, and I have to imagine others are in the same boat.1 point

Historically, there have been many occasions when major new attractions have been knocked up well within one year. Some examples include Lethal Weapon, Wild West falls and everything at Dreamworld which has built and opened new rides in under 6 months. It can be done as history has shown. Unfortunately in the case of VR I don't believe there is a current budget for it's replacement. I just hope that SW intend to add something on the old Corkscrew and adjacent reclaimed land in the meantime as waiting another 3 years is ridiculous1 point

They made the announcement of DD and the villians area on Feb 23 last year. So I'm thinking that we would see an announcement from the park with more details about the ride around the same.1 point

@Gazza I didn't say it wasn't the correct thread to post it in. Just saying we were talking about something else in another thread and it came up. Conversations lead into other conversations all the time. I thought I linked it for him so he would have seen what we said but my phone doesn't like Parkz.-1 points

Incorrect I said a projection which I've independently researched. Park is down almost two thirds in attendance. Monthly revenue last financial year was $9 million and $3 million in net profit. Divide that by 3 and you currently have $3 million in revenue and a $3 million loss.-2 points
-
Anyway...back on topic. I've done a projection that they are currently losing 3 million a month. Add that to the 10 million they lost in the 6 weeks they were closed and you have a theme park in serious trouble. Could be bust and closed within 18 months.-6 points
