  1. I take your point, and older generations do generalise about certain aspects of the younger - but it's not without merit. You understand the joke or the punchline, but not everyone your age does. I'm the youngest in my family, and my wife is the oldest - despite there only being two years between us, I've got a much 'older' interest in things like music for example - because my eldest brother is 10 years older than me, and I tended to follow what my brothers did (like most younger siblings). With my wife being the oldest - she didn't have someone to 'follow' and so her interests tended to be a little more modern than mine. Its a very generalistic approach, and clearly not applicable to you personally, but there are many in 'younger generations' that are clueless about these things that people my age grew up with. TO hazard a guess - are you the eldest child in your family? It can depend on how the agreement went when WB exited the market. VR bought them out. Clearly at the time they were very reliant on the WB franchises for what was in the park, so retaining the license for those properties would have been a key factor in negotiations, as it ultimately would determine the ability for the park to continue in it's (then) current format. Since VR was paying - it could very easily have been written into the contract some sort of lifetime license - with the payment included in the purchase price. Depending on how desperate WB was to liquidate their share in the parks, they may have been willing to do something like that for existing properties - and similar to the Universal \ Marvel deal, they'd be permitted to refurb or refresh, provided certain standards were met. THis could be the case as we've seen several changes to the WB Kids area since WB exited the parks - pounce and bounce is a new addition entirely utilising the same characters, and I doubt this would have required a separate license negotiation - but at the end of the day we don't know what we don't know. I would like to join those calling for the park to make SOME sort of change to the ride for when it returns. Reversing the cars, whilst cool, does obviously require physical changes to the ride itself and that is probably outside of the scope of what they have embarked on - so we're likely not going to see that, at least this time around... So then, what we need to see is a revamped and updated attraction - let's see some new effects in the animatronics (we have the technology), let's see some better lighting to hide the next element, add more surprise, add more 'spooky' whilst still being kid friendly. Above all else though, let's bring in the guys responsible for the original laser show, let's set up the lasers so that they once again utilise the mirrors mounted around the disco room. let's get the right balance of fog so the room really pops, and lets update the sound system so it pumps no matter where in the room you are. Let's redo the ropelights in the lift well so it emphasises the speed and tilt of the lift. Maybe we can put more interactivity in the queueline, maybe we can do something else besides the same tired 'making of' video. Look - i enjoy the video but theres only so many times you want to hear it \ see it whilst queueing for a couple hours... and while we're in there - let's do a little realignment of the queue chains so each lane isn't 5 miles wide - people don't use all available space in the lanes, which makes the line long and quickly ends in people queueing in the overflow outside - make the lanes a little narrower so more people can fit in the airconditioning. All of this would likely cost less than another MACK turntable - but it is just a bit of a wishlist without much in the way of direction or cohesion - just my ramble.

  2. I've heard you guys talking about how nice the staff are being since Dreamworld's reopening, but I still wasn't expecting what I saw yesterday. Probably one of the best days out I've ever had at a theme park. I was there from around 9:45 until just after Fire Machine, and had a great day. Had time to do just about everything, even a full lap on Dreamworld Express (which was depressing, as it provided a morbid view of the dormant RHLR), time spent at Corroboree, Tiger Island, and still rode all my favourites 4-5 times. I barely even noticed that three of the thrill rides were closed. Car park was probably 60-70% full, but only 40-50% earlier in the day. Fire Machine was beyond spectacular, and the staff were INCREDIBLE. Going out of their way to help at all times - it was a hot day, so the ToT operators allowed us to queue at the air-conditioned hallways, and walked the rest of the queue to collect carriage loads themselves. The "Fun Patrol", the staff recognising people when they returned to rides, the welcoming attitudes and friendly hellos - getting a sticker for nailing it on Tail Spin summed it up for me - all capped off by a friendly goodbye and "thank you so much for visiting" as we left. Plus, this was my first time at WhiteWater World, which was great, so it was pretty much the best day ever for me. Kudos to Dreamworld.

  3. That's one big bee... Average honeybee length (L) is 15mm... His tackle (T) is average 1/4mm... So L = 60T... You are saying T = 3 feet... 60x3 = 180 feet...

  4. Hey @jake_hunt you should copy and paste that straight onto DW Facebook, they are loving this kind of feedback and are passing it onto the Staff to help keep the great momentum going! Such a great report mate I am thrilled to hear they are doing everything to put their best foot forward and winning with smiles?

  5. I've mentioned it before, but half the issue is education. Park(s) shouldn't be going "don't wory, don't worry, everything's cool, trust us" and leaving it for the media to speculate, because we all know that with no little to no information mainstream news goes a little crazy. Instead they should be going "this is why it's routine, and this is why it's safe" and treading the line more with being a little more honest in the interest of putting everyone's minds at ease and being proactive in stopping it before it spirals out of control. If you work in PR, you'd know that 99% of bad situations have a silver lining if you're proactive and not reactive. Scooby Doo's theming (or lack thereof) could be a story of how much VRTP are committed to safety and interested in keeping queues down over summer. When Storm stops on the lift hill, there's an opportunity to educate mainstream news on how sophisticated and proactive safety redundancies are on modern rides.

  7. Well... I severely underestimated the mountain the media could make out of this molehill, but the stupidity of the people commenting is even worse. If I were the parks, or the industry right now, i'd be looking at what legal options there are to get the media to provide some sort of corrections - perhaps running a story on ACA or TT where engineers, safety auditors, ride manufacturers and park operators talk about these sorts of incidents - why it proves they're safe, why it's normal day-to-day stuff. But - when you see just how fucking pathetic they can be over a white shirt - it's no wonder they're pushing this sensationalistic garbage for ratings and clicks.

  8. This is just absolutely rediculous. What everytime I ride does something that it shouldn't do the news is going to report on it. It's so stupid and not needed what's so ever. If someone is in danger, or the ride does something that hasn't been safe or isn't normal, like an emergency stop, then DONT REPORT ON IT. Pisses me off continually seeing this stuff. People are going to gain less and less faith in the parks, with these reports that make you believe something horrible has happened.

  9. I don't know about you @Original but I prefer my coasters to lose their speed when they hit the brakes...

  10. I know, it's great! They all look look like they want to be at dream world. Also, has anyone been on tot recently. They are always having parking issues with the trains wheels slipping through brakes. It's funny though when we start rolling back through the tunnel and people freak out or when you speed into the station. It took 5 miniutes for them to park the train successfully. Also, ride attendants are running rides past 9 so everyone gets to experience the ride they have been queuing for.

  12. The forum has a feature which prevents people from editing and deleting posts, which stops people deleting or changing posts after other people have responded to it. It used to happen a lot where someone would get into a debate, and then delete all their comments rendering large parts of a thread unreadable. It also has the affect of making people think twice before they post. People who buy merch are allowed the feature because we figure if you're serious enough about this hobby to buy merch, you probably aren't here to cause trouble. I totally get that it's annoying feature not to have, but we've not hid it behind a paywall to be dicks - there is a method to it. Also double posting really isn't that big a deal if it's not done ALL the time and there's a decent time gap between the posts. Have a fantastic Parkz day! ??

  14. Jet Rescue was the first ride to make it into Parkz All Stars Aussie Theme Park. MDMC is the first ride turned into paperclips. Next battle: Escape from Madagascar vs. Road Runner Rollercoaster. Time to see which one will be left standing and which one will be turned into dust. If anybody has any ideas of battles they what to see, you can send me a message and I will start a new one each Monday.

  15. Yeah beat me to it by a few mins there man. We're already staring down the barrel of having a lot of these threads, lets not have them clogging up the whole board. Once the other one has been inactive for a day or two try again

  16. It's literally been 6 hours since the other thread was posted. There's a large number of members who would not have even signed back in to Parkz yet to know the thread exists and cast their vote. Surely you could have waited two or three days like last time. I fear an influx of daily "X vs X" posts now.

  18. Road Runner is about as flawless as a ride can get. Low height requirement, massive capacity (900+ if you're on your game) and quite thrilling even for older kids. Escape from Madagascar isn't bad by any stretch, it just doesn't do things quite as well as Road Runner does them. It's not really a close call, Road Runner is the better ride. Escape from Madagascar crushes Boating School and any other kiddie coaster you care to mention in Australia, but when it's up against one of the best executed coasters around it's always going to be a struggle.

  19. Prepare for more. Was just lining up for WWF with my daughter and there's a boat stuck up before the drop

  20. I'm going to say Escape from Madagascar. I haven't done either of these for a while, but I do remember when I was a kid Madagascar (or Runaway Reptar as it was back then) was by far my favourite due to the sensation you get when hanging below the track as opposed to sitting on top of it.

  22. @Original I don't think you can blame it on MDMC on being the first one. I would blame it on DW’s penny pinching policy. They brought a family ride and tried to sell it off as a thrill ride. For a kid first coaster, it’s a great ride. Something to build up a kid’s confidence.

  24. I have NO problem with MDMC - I think it's a great ride. I haven't experienced any rides within USA so I suppose I don't have much to compare it too, but I certainly don't think it's a terrible ride. It is just a fun, quick roller coaster ride that doesn't have a long queue. I think it's fun (sorry to be THAT PERSON who enjoys It!)

  25. Ahhhh I too recall fond memories of riding the Turbo at the Hawk Show. The poor man's easter show - they did pretty well considering it was a hole.

  26. Here's a breakdown that was much more entertaining news than the two reported from WBMW. Was at Sea World on Friday, and Storm Coaster was e-stopped and closed for about 10 minutes while I was in the queue. They cycled around some empty boats before coming through the line and telling us that they had stopped the ride because of a "bad smell". Apparently an animal had died in the control booth. Hah. One boatload of passengers was stopped for a few minutes just before the final drop, but no evac. Still more interesting than AA breakdown.

  27. I agree with that, but you downvoted my post. I didn't down vote yours. You can't say 'people down vote stuff they disagree with rather than the quality and that's wrong!' and straight away downvote something you disagree with. I got no beef with you man, I often agree with stuff you say. This isn't one of those times to be sure but I don't dislike you for it. I've put the case forward why it's done a certain way. You make fine points in response, some I agree with, some I don't but it's a balancing act. No matter where the line is it'll always be an issue. Again, no disrespect, we just disagree. I promise when you open your forums I won't complain about to little control over edits

  28. I don't necessarily think it should be re-themed away from Scooby, but if they are going to expense of replacing the everything, I'd like them to take the chance while they have a basically blank canvas to work with, to give us a new experience. If it re-opens with no differences at all, I'd call it a massively missed opportunity. If they can't find enough inspiration or creativity to deliver a new Scooby experience, that's when I'd say - well let's move on to a totally new theme

  29. Yeah I'm glad someone finally said it. After going to a couple of events one last week one this week I was starting to think I was going to a different event than other people. Sea World is a park full of massive potential and possibilities. Carnival manages to use none of it. Heres what they should do for Carnival next year; Take it back to Movie World during off peak periods, as it has no business being at Sea World in the peak season. What would work well at Sea World though would be to take the entire budget of Carnival, open the park till 8, and have a decent sized show on the main lake at closing time, and include it with admission, and a couple of bands around the place.

  30. Ok, so let me preface this by saying there's almost a 99.99% chance this will never get finished or go anywhere, but I started it because I've got nothing much else to do for the next week or so sitting at home.

  31. How is it a boring ride for families? Think you need to tone down the hyperbole. As MickeyD said, it draws consistent queues. The night I went to see The Fire Machine there were kids racing back to re-join the queue.

  32. I'm calling it out - they aren't competing - one's thrilling, and one's MDMC.

  34. No doubts that the future for Ardent is pretty bright. I think they've tapped into something pretty solid with Main Event in the US. Dreamworld however will be a worry for the foreseeable future; I've not seen anyone out there saying otherwise right now.

  37. OK I will change it. The forum has a stupid feature that does nothing but lower the quality of posts. That really should not be something behind a pay wall. He added that comment a hour after he posted the first post, that is not enough time to allow for edits. A day or two is fine, less then a hour is just ridiculous.

  40. As you know, there have been two topics before this but I wanted to start this new one just so we dont have to keep repeating what everyone already thinks on the same topic. IMO, i think that the Arkham Asylum is better in this battle, becuase it's theming is streets ahead of HWSW and its overall a bit more thrilling. Both of these rides have a huge downside though, and thats the load time. It takes about 3 minutes for passengers to be loaded and unloaded on the Arkham Asylum and the same goes for the HWSW.

  41. I don't expect this one to get much activity just yet, but to try and separate the discussion of these two very different projects, let's try and keep all roller coaster speculation and discussion here. Discussion about Doomsday Destroyer, the 2016 flat ride is over here. A few pieces of reading materials to get things started: http://www.parkz.com.au/article/2015/11/21/369-Village_Roadshow_promise_worlds_best_attraction_for_Gold_Coast.html http://www.parkz.com.au/article/2016/01/30/384-Construction_fences_up_as_thrill_ride_rumours_fly_at_Movie_World.html And our ride profile, where we'll have all likely and confirmed information as it comes to light: http://www.parkz.com.au/parks/AU/Gold_Coast/Warner_Bros_Movie_World/ride/2445-Unknown_Roller_Coaster
