  10. I say theme parks have large teams of qualified mechanical fitters maintaining their rides and extensive engineering testing at tightly regimented intervals on their attractions... Who/what do Carnivals have?

  11. Also known as "Watercoaster stops in the rain, passengers horrified they got wet". PASSENGERS on the Storm Coaster ride at Sea World were stuck for about 15 minutes in what the theme park have called a “routine ride stoppage”. The incident occurred around 11.30am at the base of the ride’s incline. About 15 minutes later, Sea World staff members removed the passengers from the eight-seater carriage, offering them bottles of water and umbrellas according to an eye witness named Paul. The Victorian holiday-maker said he was on the ride with his family five minutes earlier when a similar situation occurred. “We were on the Storm Coast just before and it stopped in exactly the same place, just before the incline,” Paul said. “It was only about 15 or 20 seconds but the other carriage was coming up behind us and my kids were screaming ‘stop the ride’, they were beside themselves. “My daughter is still in tears now ... she had a panic attack. “I just wonder what would have happened if the conveyor belt hadn’t caught up and our carriages collided. “I’ve been on this ride several times and this has never happened, it didn’t feel very routine.” Meet Paul. Paul wanted his name in the paper. Paul is a muppet.

  12. This makes me excited about what VRTP plan for the eventual lakeside precinct (assuming that is the "future development area"). While initially it struck me as odd that VRTP would place the building to the west of the film tank I can see two advantages for doing so that outweigh the potential disruption to studio operations and the greater distance for customers of AOS wanting to go enjoy some hitting time pre or post show: 1) Having customers hit eastwards avoids them facing into the setting sun. I notice the US centres either are oriented eastwards or northwards (hitting northwards avoids low winter suns in the US). 2) The building being to the west will presumably help draw a critical mass of customers to the future attractions/entertainment options located around the lakeside precinct. My guess is we'll see a fairly impressive restaurant and bar precinct eventually built around the area perhaps with a second park entrance/exit near to the hypercoaster that would allow guests leaving MW in the evening easy access to the precinct.

  13. True, but it is a pretty big mistake to make if you've signed some sort of confidentiality agreement. Either way, I believe if information is made public even by mistake, providing its not a matter of national security, you can't retrospectively make it confidential once it's in a public arena. Obviously if VRTP contacts Richard and says hey this shouldn't be seen, i'd expect him and be happy for him to click 'delete post'

  20. Like Green Lantern it shuts off after a certain time at night. As for the pattern who knows, maybe an engineer played with him recently? Wouldnt it be cool if they put RGB LED Video curtains around the barrel? Could you imagine what they could do with it? #subtle Also, how good is Green Lantern's.... lantern? Some pretty slick stuff going on there.

  21. Ahhh the classic whose rides are safer debate. Carnies say their's because they take them apart so often meanwhile theme parks say their's are because they don't come apart as easily. Looking forward to seeing this thread pop up in another twelve months.

  22. Slightly off topic, but may be of interest to some people. A lot of the stuff underneath the ride has been removed, including the penguin holding the upside down sign before the lift hill. Queue is still well-themed, but there's almost no theming at all on the ride itself.

  23. I had a dream I was an actor last night so I feel we need to roleplay this. I will play the part of the disabled person. (In this roleplay you will refer to me as Tom Cruise) Since you asked the question you can play the role of my support person that takes drives me around and looks after me. (In this roleplay I will refer to you as Donald Trump) Tom: “Yay we made it to Dreamworld. I am so excited” Donald: “Settle down Tom, we are not even in the front gate yet” Tom: “Hurry up, I need to go to the toilet” Donald: “What have you eaten Tom? You went before we left and you live across the road” Tom: “That was a number 1. Now I feel the need – the need to poo” Donald: “Ok, it just happens to be a newly renovated toilet next to the Lego store” Tom: “It’s not going to be so new when I’m finished with it” Donald helps Tom into the toilet area. Tom: “What the hell are you still doing in here? Get out, I can poo by myself” Donald: “Sorry” Donald leaves the toilet and waits outside. 5mins latter Tom calls out. Tom: “Donald! Donald!” Donald: “Yes Tom, I heard you the first time” Tom: “Come in here. I need help. I need help getting my pants back up” Donald: “I’m not coming in there; your paints are down and everybody outside will see you when I open the door” Tom: “Don’t be stupid Donald that’s what the screen is for” Donald: "Hey that's not fair why don't they have a screen for me when I go to toilet" Tom: "Silly Donald, you have a cubical"

  24. No they don't - especially since Dreamworld up the road now has Shrek's Faire Faire Away, inside the Dreamworks Experience - so neither of those ideas are going to work... We've discussed it before, but eveything has to be a coaster, because thats what increases attendance. Not a Disk'O Coaster, or a spaceshot, or a twin hammer... coasters bring them in. Of course, a park with nothing but coasters would be pretty boring (and totally awesome!!!) but thats just the way the public view things (and us, mostly us)... so most suggestions in this thread will probably be a coaster. that's life.

  27. I actually really like that backwards idea. Just put another turntable in the jungle room so the whole wild mouse can be done forwards. In fact you're just relocating the turntable from its current location cause you still only need one. Put magnetic brakes on the final drop so it's not jarring to take it backwards. What would be real cool is if the theming in the jungle room was done in a way so that it rotated with the car so you had no idea you were being turned backward again.
