  1. Not sure I'd put much faith in any of the second/third/fourth hand 'facts' that keep spreading here. I don't see how anyone's determined that it'll be anything like Intimidator 305? That ride has a layout that's heavy on ground-hugging turns to emphasise speed. It represents the classic conundrum with gigacoasters in that once you reach certain speeds then the cost and space required to go up becomes astronomical because you need to go either really high or really long to manage the forces. Movie World's hypercoaster (which simply can't be 70m tall, sorry folks) doesn't have that problem. Hypercoasters generate manageable speed where it's not cost or size prohibitive to burn it off with hills. The track that's going up now is for the turnaround section of the ride so it's naturally pretty twisted. The footings however indicate a pretty clear out-and-back layout with a twisted turnaround and some interesting twists in the middle. Blacking or greying out is a result of high, sustained positive g-forces, such as experienced in banked turns or loops. Different people have different thresholds and it can vary based on hydration, alertness and other things. I don't know why we're suddenly throwing that into the mix here in a discussion about the construction despite no indications of anything resembling sustained positive g-forces.

  2. Dreamworld haven't added a new ride for a year but honestly I've enjoyed myself more at Dreamworld in the past 18months than I have at any Australian park for many years. It's so nice to walk into a theme park and actually feel like the staff want you there. I'll be renewing and I would hope that members on this site would do the same.

  4. Movie World's coaster from everything I've heard is very different to Flash. It might hit a lot of the same notes, but the order is totally different, and there are a couple BIG awesome changes that I've not seen anyone even guess so far. The rides aren't clones, I've decided that they are best described as 'siblings'. Certainly a pretty strong family resemblance but also unique personalities. While I'm sure it'll be a thing people will debate, I'll say that I think what we're getting is way better, even without that delicious looking camel back between the Stengel Dive and the turn around on Flash. I'm trying to not get too hyped because that's how disappointment happens, but it's hard to envision it being anything other than awesome. I don't think it'll beat Superman in terms of execution because that ride is about as perfectly executed a coaster as you could wish for, despite it's few flaws, and nothing on the rumour mill is filling me with confidence about this coaster's theme or placement in the park. In terms of pure roller coaster though, this should be the pretty clear winner, and I honestly can't wait.

  5. This could almost be its own thread but I don't think either Village or Dreamworld have better or worse staff. The difference to me is 2 things, Dreamworld are treating their staff incredibly well at the moment and have been even since before October and that good treatment filters through to the guests, . Village also ask their staff to do good service but doesn't empower them to do so, and instead asks them to enforce customer unfriendly polices like charging for sauce, charging for ride lockers, making people sit in exactly the right place for the parade. When you have enough unpleasant interactions with the public it will stop you from wanting to go above and beyond

  6. Few follow up shots just now. Another piece installed. Also not the angle of the support to turn back over that dive. The angle is almost 90 degs and will create and awesome head chop!

  7. That photo is my favourite of this coaster so far. Looks like you'll be flipped over into the turnaround while weightless. The guy (or one of the people at least) who designed this thing is actually an active user in the NoLimits community and I've had a bit of a chat with him about this ride, he really did keep his mouth shut about it but it's just great to see that Mack has hired someone who tuned their skills just making coasters at home and sharing them online. The best looking coasters I see are virtual ones made by enthusiasts, and it's great to see that the people in this community are getting the chance to have a go at the real thing. I'll be sure to let him know whether it sucks or not!

  8. Here's a few pictures I took this afternoon Will also add that while I was taking these pictures, I witnessed a lady during the wrong way out of MW, and into on coming traffic. Thankfully no accident happened, and as she passed under the MW sign she turned around and went back the other way. Idiot. And there is even a massive sign saying not to go out that way

  9. The fact the merch team have decided to allocate non-relative colours to superheroes in order to sell capes with logos isn't the point of my comment. They are not going to design a magenta colour Coaster and say "well it's a supergirl Coaster of course, we sell capes in that colour!" I still stand by it being a superman cape in pink to be attractive to young girls. Supergirl wears zero pink, and every other cape (even those of superheroes that don't wear capes) is relative to the colour of their costume. Anyways, it has nothing to do with the coaster, let's agree on that!

  10. FWIW the times I've visited DW after the incident none of the staff seemed as overly friendly as what everyone else has been describing. (That is to say they've been customer service friendly but it hasn't felt like it was above and beyond). I've been to MW and PC more recently and remember them being as friendly as you'd expect anyone who works in customer service to be. Didn't bother me in the slightest though. Not saying this is bad for either/any park, I've worked in customer facing roles for 12+ years, and I know it's not possible to be friendly 100% of the time without some serious drugs.

  11. Nice one @joz and this is so absolutely true. Sorry MW but when I arrive and leave every time I visit no one has the decency to say hello or goodbye. What a lasting impression? It would be nice if someone from HR paid attention to this because bugger me, that is simply unacceptable.

  13. Yeah, something about a multi million dollar company, filled with dozens of talented marketing, advertising, PR & digital folks handing over an announcement to an Instagram account less than a month old on a whim.... See, when you use logic, you get a logical conclusion.

  16. Best entry staff I have encountered were at Disneyland. The fact they say hello and welcome you to the park (even use your first name due to it being associated with the pass) sets a good tone for the day.

  17. Once again this morning as I entered Movie World, the guy just scanned my card whilst looking at and talking to another employee, and saying "Can you get on number 3 right now". He made no eye contact with me, let alone saying anything to me. I felt ever so slightly better knowing he's rude to other employees too, and not only to mere guest scum like myself! In a shop or cafe or bar, customer service is extremely important. In a theme park, I believe the level of enthusiasm and fun should be much higher than just customer service. It's a theme park after all, and anyone entering is there to have loads of fun (not just to buy something like in a shop or cafe). As a bare minimum, eye contact, a smile, and a sincere and friendly greeting are just courtesy and really not too much to ask. I've noticed this twice recently at Movie World. If it happens again I'll be taking notice of the name on the badge of the person, and reporting them to management as it's simply not good enough.

  18. Ditto. And despite my prev post re. the differences in current attraction appeal between parks, it certainly doesn't reflect how my family or I personally feel about the park at all. Truth be told, we proudly visit Dreamworld all the time... have done so since it reopened in Dec last year, and also made very frequent visits even before then. My husband and I even make a weekly date out of it whilst the kids are at school 😂😜 Half the time we don't even go on rides, just do a couple of laps of the park, visiting the regulars - Luke, Lance & the other blokes in the sheep shearing shed (hubby will have a chin wag with them for at least a good half hour between shows lol) Lilly & Sparky the dogs, Goldie the eagle, Harvey the big red etc - and taking in surroundings. It's just our thing "to do", part of our weekly routine and we love it. No other park holds the same charm ☺️ Last week was the first time I had actually walked into Movie World in ages, same for Sea World when we made a family trip there. Both visits were very brief, to say the least. I made a solo trip into MW, and virtually walked straight out again after doing a quick lap (I hate admitting that, but it's the truth) 😕 Other than the coaster construction which can be witnessed externally, there is really nothing particularly appealing inside VRTPs atm to currently warrant frequent return visits. That said, we are firmly retaining our Unlimited memberships and look forward to that factor changing soon when things pick up a bit more later in the year (September and beyond... bring on the Hyper, Polar Bear cubs, Fright Nights and White Christmas) 😆 Honestly, what Dreamworld lacks in new attractions, it makes up for in charm and other priceless aspects. We go for the personal experience of catching up with numerous animals and staff we have developed friendships & bonds with... that's not to say we don't have friendships at VRTP as that's not the case (esp since I've worked for them multiple times) but the ones we do know usually aren't in a situation to stop and chat, or socialise on a personal level - VRTP are a lot stricter in this department. We've held 4x memberships for DW for over a year now, with no intention of cancelling - heck, I dare say that divorce would be an issue if I ever considered doing so, that's how much hubby loves that park 😂😜❤️👍

  19. I'll definitely be renewing my pass for DW, not only to show my support, but because I love the park. As @joz has said, you actually feel like the staff want you there, and are always making conversation, smiling and having a laugh. VRTP on the other hand. There are some great staff at MW and SW, but I think that is one of the things that really lets down the parks. I don't expect them to all be happy, all the time, but just a hello when walking into the park would be good enough (the majority of the time they do, some staff don't bother though). In regards to Tiger Island, of course a massive all new coaster will generate plenty more interest than a smaller exhibit (and remember that was originally planned to be opened with the original offical opening last year).

  20. Just go to your local show when it comes around if you want to pay to get in then keep paying to do rides and food. I have no interest in going to a permanent park that charges you to enter then charges you again if you want to do anything.

  24. Seems more and more likely that this hypercoaster will be more along the lines of a fast and wild 'Intimidator 305' style ride rather than a traditional 'out and back' style ride. While I'm sure there's a few people who will be annoyed at this, the general consensus is that the aforementioned is a spectacular ride and so Movie World's new behemoth is among good company. Personally speaking, I just hope there's not too many needless inversions, 2 is the absolute maximum I think it needs, just like an RMC. And while I'm sure a massive vertical loop would cut a striking figure for the front of the park I don't know how necessary it is all things considered. Either way, I'm looking forward to the finished product!

  26. From the little that we've seen so far I think we'll be getting a rather different ride experience to Flash - possibly towards the intenser end of the spectrum of Mack rides. Take the turnarounds for instance: Photo taken from rcdb Photo: @ThemeTendo Aside from the obvious difference in direction, Flash's turnaround has a very smooth, gradual twist out of the turn. In contrast, the track placed so far at Movieworld performs a quick airtime pop into a very sudden twist. Flash's turnaround also leads into a floaty zero-g roll whereas the supports indicate this turnaround will lead into some high-pace twists and turns at its base. I think at this stage comparisons to Flash can only give a very basic idea of what to expect - they may be similar lengths and height but they're looking like substantially different coasters in execution. Suffice to say, the more I see of this coaster the more excited I get

  27. You thought someone who makes posts like that and piggybacks off a similar name to two other sites/pages was really going to be a credible source of information?
    1 point
  28. Very much doubt this is true, and wouldn't expect an announcement to be made like this. They probably will just reopen it, and not make a major fuss about it, incase its some backlash (which I really hope it wouldn't), because of the incident. I think right now they are focusing on more important aspects of the park, like finishing the construction and continuing to getting people back in the park. I think once the Parkway and Tiger Island stage 2 is complete, then they will focus on the other elements, such as removal of TRR, reopening of the log ride (And they have confirmed it will be reopening, so we don't have to worry about it not) and a memorial (If the families wish for there to be one).

  30. Alright folks, here's your photo update from around 4:45pm today. As per the (NL2) model, the turn under the Stengel Dive has received a few supports. I believe they were doing the turn-around supports today, as most of them are unfinished. and finally a panorama of the turnaround area The next piece to go up is Piece #66

  31. Since the fencing around GL is matched with the new coaster, i'd like to see them make that the 'official' boundary - meaning the internal wall that used to be the external boundary is no longer needed - knock it out, build a big deck over the canal and create a nice new relaxing space near the front of the park. it's never going to happen but it'd be nice.

  32. Craig Davidson has made good changes at Dreamworld, like giving a lot of attractions and areas a much needed face lift. He's worthy of some serious recognition in my mind given what he's achieved and what he's endured in his tenure.

  35. I don’t understand people uploading a video of a B&M coaster and say it is comparable to a Mack coaster. Why can't people just say it's 98 metres longer than Mack Rides other Hyper Coaster. Talking about one ride and putting up a video of another is something the Gold Coast Bulletin does.

  37. Mate - I know you're new here, so i'm going to be really really nice. You're a fucking muppet. @Levithian has already said they CANNOT USE THE STUDIOS FOR FRIGHT NIGHTS. This is WHY they built the sheds out near west. Muppet. Muppet. Muppet. Below is the west burgers building. You aren't worth my time with measurements and such, so i've included intencity for scale - as you can see, almost the entire building (if you exclude the skill games area at the top) will fit within the dodgem cars arena. Hardly 'quite large'. Seriously - just shut the fuck up.
