I don't remember any of us discussing HWSD2?5 points

@mission I think you are way off tbh... I know i was begging my parents to take me on holidays to Qld to go on WWW when it opened, and SDSC. And they were trips we made. Instead of going to Melbourne or some other destination, the promotion of a new exciting ride that would make their kid/young teenager happy is what made my parents decide on the location of our holiday. Most of my friends were in the same situation. I think the vast majority of family holidays are planned around what will keep the kids entertained, and theme parks play a major deciding part in that discussion in most households5 points

Wow, had a great time at Cockburn ARC this afternoon. It seems a strange time to be visiting waterslides on the coldest day in May in 5 years, but since it's indoors and heated, it didn't really matter. Cockburn ARC is the new home to the Freo Dockers and this was their discover weekend, a $7 fee covered entry to the slides and pools for a limited amount of time. I had tickets for the 1-2.15pm session. Arriving about twenty minutes early there was already a line to get in. Just a few minutes to 1pm they opened the doors and everyone started to go in. There were plenty of entertainers to keep the crowds happy. The centre staff were great, although there are a few kinks to work out. They held the queue at the bottom of the stairs, but as you quickly found out, this was just for the popular tube slide (The Tumbler). Very few people were lining up for the drop slide, The Rocket, so naturally I ended up going on it twice. The plunge was exhilarating, and the ride was quickly over. The Pipeline is an 'extreme speed' slide that is more like your regular mat slides. It's a pretty good length and has some cool light effects. Didn't get a chance to go on the Tumbler, but I look forward to that next time. The food also seems to be pretty reasonable there too. Can't wait to go back, plus it's only about five minutes away from Adventure World. https://www.facebook.com/7NewsPerth/videos/10154691316049072/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE https://www.facebook.com/Buggybuddys/videos/vb.218558634845242/1503465423021217/?type=2&theater https://www.facebook.com/Buggybuddys/videos/vb.218558634845242/1503465283021231/?type=2&theater https://www.facebook.com/Buggybuddys/videos/vb.218558634845242/1503465243021235/?type=2&theater3 points

Me too! 2LI makes some fantastic stuff, they set the bar super high, and i'd go as far as to say they're an asset to VRTP's campaigns. However, if you're basing your opinion off data inside a client brief that either VRL or OMD supplied to say 2LI, you're still ultimately going off information provided by folks who have yet to add a mobile portal or disability access to their core websites, a move that's definitely impacting their search rankings, and thus, their digital strategy as a whole. First of all, if you're not advertising because on an inability to pick the right contractors for the job to deliver a project on time that by and large the rest of the world is totally capable of pulling off (with a few notable exceptions), then yeah, you're right, you shouldn't advertise, because your company has bigger problems at hand it needs to worry about. This isn't the case with Movie World. They've got a great GM at the helm supported by great ops folks and the company has picked vendors and contractors to build this very carefully. IF this ride was what you're probably used to producing TVC's for i.e. Fright Nights, Arkham Asylum VR etc. etc. i'd totally, 100% agree with you, because if it was for a small to medium capex attraction or event, everything you say would checkout. But, to be clear, let me say this again, this is Australia's biggest spend on a single attraction so far. This isn't something you market like everything else, because if you market it like everything else, you're going to lose huge sums of money in the process. Major capex spends like this follow a trend the world over, a trend that isn't being followed.3 points

I was going to save this for an article, but I see an opportunity here to debunk the "why does everyone hate on MW" train that goes round so often here, so here goes: I actually went to the effort of sifting through the last decade's worth of major hyper roller-coaster announcements, comparing the time between the announcement and the open date. Want to know what I found? Since 2008, between announcement to open, there's typically a 9.4 month mean or 8 month median average, and that number has increased right up to 14-18 months (Mako & Karnan respectively) in two recent instances where social media has become important in creating hype and marketing for these kinds of attractions. That means, as we stand here right now, today, as each second passes, even if they announced the coaster right now, they would be going against every single global trend for successfully marketing a major project like this in the theme park industry for the last decade. If they open in September (and by all bets, they still will be) that'll mean that there's less than four months between announcement to open IF they announced today. That's an worryingly small amount of time to get the word out about a project this big. It's such a small amount of time, in terms of collecting the data above, it would be considered an anomaly and not counted in the overall dataset. Now, this is not me hating on Movie World, nor is this me hopping on the Movie World hate train. Most folks know I love the crapper out of the park, and there's some incredible folks working in there to whom I have much respect for. I also want to see Movie World get the amount of success it deserves for putting itself on the line and building such a behemoth of a project, and from a marketing perspective, this isn't a case of nitpicking personal taste in terms of art direction or style in a TVC, this is me identifying something that worries me in light of wanting the best for the park and its team, something that I hope they identify promptly. To simplify, no one hates Movie Worlds at all or thinks they're doing a bad job, it's just that we want to tell everyone about it, ideally, we should've known four months ago, the CEO wanted to tell us four months ago, and we still don't know, and as someone who's passionate about Movie World and wants to get the word out and support them, it's really frustrating.3 points

good to see that hibiscus growing fast on the fenceline. They are not only beautiful but eventually, they will provide a barrier between the outside world and Adventure Wolrd. Guests should not see the road and bus stop/passing traffic while inside a theme park, it should be completely screened to help them escape the daily grind. In about 5 years from now, you won't be able to see in or out.3 points

Hello, new here. I am pretty sure the new coaster is themed after this delightful pink plastic Bunnings Watering can. You can see the color very closely matches!2 points

It's "Warner Bros. Movie World", not MOVIE WORLD, not MOVIEWORLD. VRTP's art department has better tools than MS Paint The type is poorly balanced The type is awful There's no DC trademark for the ident No. Just no goldcoastparkz. Can we all just chillout for one day? @joz pass the peace pipe round, mate.2 points

Hey guys ! My Name is Gero, I`m from Germany, living very close to Europa Park and the Mack factory. Knowing the enormous quality of the Mack Megacoasters, especially those unparalleled trains...I have to admit I`m officially jealous now I would so love to have that coaster you`re getting a little closer to me I`m following the updates closely and enjoying it very much. Hope it´s okay if I`m joining the conversation a littlebit. Greeds from Germany... Gero2 points

I have absolutely no idea why Theme Park Girl, whose contributions I and I'm sure many others value greatly, has been attacked in this thread, including seemingly by members of the Parkz crew. It's just bizarre. Please don't stop contributing TPG! I also find it strange that there is an attempt to bring down and fault the user that created that great mock-up video of the coaster. It certainly gave a sense of the scale, regardless of whether individual elements were 100% correct. Are people envious about this or something? Thanks to everyone who is updating the thread regularly with pics. It's nice that barely a day goes by without new photos. This is going to be one well covered coaster, as it should be! Movie World might not be interested in marketing it, but it's certainly getting plenty of attention on Parkz.2 points

Not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the Wonder Woman film is released in Australia on June 1st. I believe this is the coaster theme and think Movie World will make an announcement to coincide with its release. So expect an announcement then. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451279/releaseinfo1 point

One time I went to MW about three years ago, the guns on JL didn't work. Needless to say, I did not ride it again. Another time at DW more recently on TOT2 there was no countdown before the launch, and at Hong Kong Disneyland, the effects on the second lift of Space Mountain were not on.1 point

Got through page two and wondering what the fuck was being discussed as I had honestly forgot. The rendering was good for a idea of what's happening with the layout before construction started but given what's happening as more of the coaster is built all I will say is don't take it as accurate anymore and just be careful if you do treat it as accurate.1 point

But what's stopping them teasing or posting ride construction pictures? Even if they don't announce it they could come out and say what was on that banner, "the best attraction in the Southern Hemisphere coming late 2017". Then they are not giving an exact date and they are building hype. They could post that on Facebook and give some teasers. Just look at what Abyss did for AW they advertised and teased the f*ck out of that and that exceeded projections by 200%. Thanks to teasers and marketing strategies. You build it and people will come, but they had to know about it in time to come. Like also mentioned people need time to book holidays and not everyone wants to go to all of the parks when they visit they might only choose one and MW needs to give them that reason. GL's announcement video had animated POVs in the video, so it's very possible to do that.1 point

Whoa. Talk about opening a can of worms 😮 As one of the two people who essentially initiated this whole debate, I just felt the need to pipe up and attempt the defuse the situation a bit. Despite what has been said and done over the past 24 hours, I want to say that Parkz is a bloody awesome forum. Yes, sometimes things are said in the heat of the moment, and sometimes things are a lot more than that. Heck, I've needed to take time out in the past occasionally to have a 'breather' when things have annoyed or frustrated me on here too much, but I've always come back. Essentially @Richardand the Parkz team here are doing a fantastic job overall of running this place, and when stuff like this blows up its easy to forget that they are voluntarily taking time out of their own days to run this site free of charge for us all to benefit from. Its a bloody fine line to walk between over and under moderating a forum... you want to allow people free speech, but you also don't want to allow it to turn into a mud slinging match, either. I once ran on online discussion forum for parents myself for many years (you can imagine what that was like as well, given a large percentage of that member case was pregnant, hormonal women - all with an opinion or two to share 😮) so yes, I know what it's like to be on their end as well as ours. Yes, there are members here that don't get along, heaven knows most of those grudges have since become public knowledge. Being someone who has participated on here for over 10 years, and since admittedly built up a bit of an online persona on social media, I've also managed to make a swell job out of building an audience of people who like and dislike me - and as demonstrated yesterday, some of the latter clearly don't like making a secret of it. Personally I choose not to correspond in any way with members I find less favourable or have had off-board issues with, and that generally keeps me out of trouble... at least when they choose to do the same, anyway. I wholeheartedly agree with what Richard has stated earlier at drawing the line at personal attacks. There's simply no need to swear at people, call them names or ridicule them for having a difference in opinion. If you find yourself having to edit your own post later to remove content that you've since realised is inappropriate for the forum, or your posts are regularly being deleted in response to complaints by fellow users, then you're definitely doing it wrong. I privately contacted Richard directly not long ago regarding this exact issue, and I really think it all comes down to showing respect toward one another. If we can stay respectful, then there really shouldn't be any real issues. Anyways, I really love this forum and I hate to see everyone bickering like this. Leading to this outcome certainly wasn't my intention with any of my posts yesterday and hopefully everyone can try and move on from it. It's been good to air some bottled up issues out into the open and obviously admin have taken them on board, so lets leave it at that and go back to being a normal, disfunctional theme park enthusiast family again, eh? ☺️👍 (and yes, sorry but I don't care what people think of my smilies. I'm continuing to use them the way I want to 😁) PS. As a side note, I don't want to dive into any of the issues of yesterday as I do really want to move on from it, but I do want to address to all those who have spoken up in my behalf or defence: thank you. I was feeling really down yesterday, so the reminder that my content contributions to Parkz are appreciated really means a lot to me. Rest assured, I'm not going anywhere. Cheers 👍1 point

@FultreIf you become a Park Crew member you don't have to search at all. LOL, you are doing what you are fighting against.1 point

You're totally, 100% wrong, and I use the word "wrong" sparingly in my life and what I post. You don't spend this country's biggest ever capex on a single ride for the locals only. They're not going to advertise to internationals, but if you spent just five minutes Googling (which wouldn't even be a tenth of the time I spent researching data the other day, let alone the time i've spent creating marketing materials for parks for globally) you'd find hat a fair chunk of the attendance is interstate, and that audience needs months & months of massaging if you want your first few months to meet budget for something this major. This is why everyone else in the world does exactly this when opening a ride. Oh sorry, let me take all my research & data and throw it in the bin. The objective of what I was aiming to find was the time between making an official announcement, and officially opening the ride.1 point

@Fultre Just added the bit you decided not to quote. If pointing out that something is good but inaccurate is part of the problem with the community, then honestly I don't know what to say. FWIW I agree that this isn't the friendliest little corner of the Internet. But if someone pointing out the world isn't all wonderful and positive is a challenging concept I suggest never leaving the house TBH. I'm with you and don't like people down voting people they don't like or disagree with. I only very rarely use the downvote option, but as part of the 'Parkz Clean up team' if there is a low quality post or something that just descends into nonsense I can hide it. Fun piece of trivia, the MW coaster thread is actually 167 pages at the moment. Also @GoGoBoy ain't new, he's as much a piece of the furniture as I am. Everyone should listen to him though, people like him are why I stay around. Finally I don't follow who doesn't get along with who off the site or in private messages. I moderate based solely on what's posted here. If someone is bullying you on here and in your life in general feel free to private message us to let us know, but generally we don't have to worry about that because our audience is mostly adults who know not to take things said about them on the internet to heart.1 point
-
I guess not marketing it much means shorter queues for us on opening day 😉1 point
-
Exactly, to new members it's easily misinterpreted. Sadly I also mostly agree with this. I've been/am a member of many forums over varied topics/themes so I have a lot to compare to. I've tried to tale a back seat on this forum and now really only come here to keep updated on things.1 point
-
Prime example of what is wrong with this community... Instead of thanking members for their contribution such as the fantastic animation made they focus their energy on this BS, how inaccurate it is. Because hey, everyone here needs to be a bloody engineer or work in the amusement industry to post. Did you even read the thread, probably not because the Parkz clean up team has already removed any traces and mopped everything up. Yeah, exactly this. Take note. This guy is new, his view is not clouded by political/cultural goggles and he see's it for what it is. This is the other problem. Pointing out isn't the real issue, its the manner in which this is done, sometimes it manifests into personal attacks, down votes and blatantly bullying people. It is ridiculous. New people come in, get a taste of this community and never return. Only the few new people with thick skin remain. I have never been a part of a more nastier community that this. It's people like @themagician, @Theme Park Girl and others that keep me coming back. /end rant1 point

At the risk of triggering off another round of debate, the only thing that interests me here is: people suggested wonderwoman people shot down wonderwoman as a suggestion because she has nothing to do with pink\purple\fuschia\magenta\whatever merchandise for the 75th anniversary of Wonder Woman goes on sale, which includes a tie-dye shirt with a fairly close match to the colour scheme of the coaster in it. If there is anything to the rumour that it was originally suicide squad, and they decided to change it, the colour wouldn't exactly fit, but tying merch in to it with similar colour schemes is a good way to validate it...1 point

These pics are from later in the day, after TPG uploaded her pics. Careful fullsizing, the panoramas are big. 4000 pixels wide. Well picked, Rummy. 'Loop' is certainly left-in, right-out. This angle, and the next pic below, really helps show how the helix is "wobbling" with climbs and dives. Anyone want to Photoshop a non-inverting loop into this?1 point
-
Here's some of the pics from before I went in. As usual, I've downsized them somewhat to 2000pixels wide (or high if portrait). They're normally 4288x2848/300dpi. Some of the supports. They're not all the same length and thickness. Most of the supports in the above pics are for the loop. Hey, part of the track nobody's seen before! /s The twisted airtime, complete into it's next element. Note the dive out of it doesn't go all the way to the ground, but when the track comes back to this area it's very low to the ground. See below. The reason the turnaround isn't finished? Parts 70 and 72 haven't arrived yet. A track to the left of me, track to the right. Here I am, looking at piece 98 in the helix. Yeah, I can't sing. The supports for section/track piece 32. Surely this is for an airtime hill? Most supports so far relating to the lift hill go as far as 15. This gives me the opinion that there's only one airtime hill from the drop. From my phone pic earlier in the day, look at the supports leading into the 'loop'. Is the airtime curved like the Stengel Dive? ...for the jigsaw players. Last pic from the series before I went in. There's a curved catwalk, but it's NOT the piece out the front with the stairs. There's also some straight track behind that.1 point

Based off that logic, they're re-doing the batman shop too, so it could be themed to him. What if everyone is wrong and it's themed to Ben and Jerry's? I mean that track colour just screams "ice cream", right?1 point

@joz by all means, I'm happy to apologise and admit when I'm wrong. I've done it on here before (for a recent example, see the topic about the hole in Eureka Mountain) and I'll continue to do it in future. I also would have probably done so this time round too, had I realised I had worded my post in a way that implies I was avoiding doing anything of the sort. But that post was clearly more than just pointing out a mistake on my part. Why not simply state "I think you should admit to Richard that you were wrong and apologise" in a respectful manner and leave it at that? Why leave remarks implying that a off-forum personal grudge against me is a contributing factor as well? Why go on to lecture over alleged personal faults, and then be as petty as to mock me over what smilies I choose to use regularly in my posts? Exactly how does any of this relate to anything? Honestly, I'm questioning how can any of the above could NOT be clearly seen as a personal attack? I'm sorry but I am not going to take shit anymore, and I will defend myself when I feel the need to. @Richard of course I am sorry if I upset or offended you in any way with my post or response to it. Most people here would be well aware by now that I sometime word things backwards or in a funny way. But I never do it intentionally. That's just me. Anyway, I'm off to 'adult' at work. These posts will probably be well and truly gone by the time I log back in, so I might as well leave it there. I'm over it.1 point

A community leader that misunderstands the case in point, screams at members (caps), thinks that world is "big and bad", that not everything should be "wonderful or positive" and is apparently a member or a leader of many bad communities... Well that's just great. Should I even bother.0 points

So a bunch of random people that likely have no idea about marketing, especially marketing a theme park attraction, have agreed on something so it must be true!! Have you ever considered that MW have actually done their research and planned very carefully what they are going to do? But because it's not what armchair critics expect or want, and is in contrast to what other theme parks may have done, then it's wrong? Maybe you should go to the park, speak to management and tell them your concerns. Anyway, no ones going to agree..... I've got no more to say on this.-1 points

You're aware that that there's movies made about alien's invading earth, purpley/blue people that live in trees riding dragonesk creatures, humans wearing trench coats that can dodge bullets, the Death Star is sitting just outside our galaxy and Debbie does Dallas right? I gotcha, movies depict real life situations. Carry on. 10 points-1 points
