Pics from late morning: Still waiting for that middle support piece. Despite appearances, there isn't an alignment issue with the airtime support. Not sure where that support on the right went later in the arvo. From Green Lantern queue. Note line-of-sight across swamp to the dive into the n-i loop. Arvo pics: Maybe that pole from the morning pics is the side pole on the big support here? Showing the progress of the track coming out of the helix. Best I could do of the new supports. If the main support pole is taking the weight, we're sure these supports are for the airtime hill leading into the non-inverting loop? Looks like a rocky area at the bottom of the non-inverting loop?6 points

Why don't they just hire a couple of vapers to sit up there and blow smoke? Pay them in fidget spinners and you've got endless smoke effects6 points

The pole is temporarily connected to a pole from the helix. Lots more thick poles (already connected together) on the ground both inside the fence and on the road. If they're not working tomorrow then Monday will be "non-inverting loop support day". The helix exit looks like a smaller version of the twisty airtime leading into the helix. So it exits the helix by making a right handed dive turn.5 points

@jcgoldcoast I believe the cold smoke effect that Disney uses on it's Big Thunder Coasters is also extremely expensive to maintain. I'm thinking mapping light effects that look like burning fuses travelling up the shaft, accompanied by some good subwoofer speakers to create a deep rumbling effect and swinging mine lights as riders assend the lift. Position 3 air cannons above the turntable and a number of strobe lights to complete the effect. The show finale of the ride needs to match the spectacle of the grand Mountain facade and it's huge drop. I hope that a few extra dollars are put aside for plussing the show this time around because this is one ride that could easily be made awesome with some enhancements.4 points

Dreamworld was profitable. It was making Tens-of-Millions of dollars a year in profit. Those profits were not being re-invested back into the park. They were being used to build Main Event Bowling Alleys in the United States. It is exactly that lack of re-investment into maintenance, park safety, and staff training that Dreamworld now finds itself in a position with 3 major rides closed, another undergoing extensive maintenance and a damaged brand - at a time when their competitor is building the largest and most expensive single attraction at an Australian Theme Park. I'm not buying the 'poor Ardent - just trying to feed hungry mouths' nonsense for a second. If they had been re-investing in the park, instead of bowling alleys they wouldn't be having these problems at all. This is a self-made problem for Ardent and I suspect a lot of people on this forum believe Ardent haven't learned a thing from it.3 points

As said by others over the last few days, it's supports week. Mainly for the non-inverting loop, but some for the dive into the loop as well. The support that's outside the fence is now in (just the first segment). I would not be surprised if the supports for the lift hill went in very soon. It looks like they're waiting on more track pieces, the pieces that have been sitting in the compound a few weeks are still there, and only one container is on site. There's no shortage of supports though. @jack.cit's hard to get good pics of that area, as it will be for the rest of the coaster's run back to the station after the helix. Got a couple. I expect today's will be the non-inverting loop supports going vertical.3 points

It's such a beautiful attraction. The 'Mountain' is a world class 'weenie', as Disney would say and the very fact that it exists raises MW's all round profile. I am so glad the ride gets such an expansive refurb every year - it shows how much MW value it. I understand that most of the budget went into refreshing the facade last year and appreciate the little touches like whimsical signage etc were at least added. Hopefully this year we will see a focus on the 'show' scenes of the ride. It has always needed more kinetic energy going on around riders and the final scene in it's current form is a big let down. Mapping technology and a blast effect like Disney's Big Thunder would be great! I am sure you they could pull off an exciting finale using air cannons and flashing light without a need for smoke effects which are not an option.3 points

I think people will observe Giant Drop is taller when they're calling it an 'attraction' rather than a 'Roller Coaster' It's pretty generic and weak as far as teasers go, but my god something at last! EDIT: Is anyone else bothered by the fact it looks like it's a top down view of the track despite trying to simulate a hill?2 points
-
It's about time... I'm really happy they're finally giving us a proper teaser, but I'm still disappointed that it's taken this long just to give one to us, it should've come months ago. Also - tallest & fastest? I mean, I've heard worse before, but have they not had a look up the road and wondered what that big tower was? Even adding "full circuit" would've been nice, I know it's pretty minor but I don't like it when official things like this get facts wrong because the GP immediately believe it.2 points

How I see it- This is 100% a cash grab by Ardent Leisure to prop up the books. The most useful information I got from the ASX update was this. “engage with third party developers to discuss potential development opportunities” Ardent Leisure aren’t in the business of hotels. How does DW compete with Village new hotel when Ardent do not build hotels? They sell the land and get somebody else to do it. How does Ardent Leisure compete with MW night-time precinct? They sell the land and get somebody else to do it. Even if Ardent have the vision of a CityWalk what another party is willing to do and Ardent want could be 2 completely different things. A lot of members of Parkz would remember Dreamworlds failed attempts to establish at night time scene with AVPX laser tag, V8 simulators, Flowrider & Dreamworld Cinema. DW failed Skeet’s number one rule. Make it unique. DW believes that I’m willing to drive past 5 other laser tags places on my way to DW, just because this laser tag is at DW. This is what Village continues to do so much better than DW. Bringing unique experiences that you can’t do anywhere else in Australia. In other news, the wolves have started to position themselves to strike. “The company is preparing to face down a push for board representation from two activist investors who have snapped up almost 8 per cent of the company. Ardent has confirmed that Ariadne Australia directors Dr Gary Weiss and Mr Kevin Seymour requested board seats early this month, but a formal meeting has yet to take place. The company has attempted to pre-empt the push with a management shake-up that last month saw the appointment of a new chief executive, Simon Kelly, the sidelining of previous boss Deborah Thomas and a strategic review of the business by external consultants.”2 points

While Dreamworld/Ardent is looking for new experiences for their theme park. I would like them to explore the idea of a daily parade. I feel they could show off their attractions and create an exciting experience with licences they already have. In no order they could have as follows: * DreamWorks Characters like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda and Puss in Boots * Two tigers walked from Tiger Island * Someone or displays representing the Corrboree section * Vintage car promoting that ride * A car from the Peter Brock museum or replica * Characters from ABC kids * Singers and dancers from their Main Street line up * Dreamworld Mascots Belinda and Kenny This would be something for crowds to look forward to at the end of the day and would be great promotion on social media. Would like to know if others feel a parade would be a good idea and if they have any suggestions.1 point

Superman Escape, maybe some extensive maintenance, but not a full-on refurb. The theme and ride are perfect as they are, provided everything is kept in working order. Tower of Terror was refurbished only 7 years ago, so I can't see it becoming "Tower of Terror 3" anytime soon, and I would question the investment even to refurbish the existing ride extensively. Once again, maybe some good maintenance, not a refurb. And I have no idea why Jet Rescue came to your mind. My suggestions would be that refurbishments work best for older rides that are still popular and in good working order. For example, SDSC, WWF and HWSW were all ageing and showing their experience, but were still relatively popular in terms of their place at their respective parks. I wouldn't be surprised to see RHLR get some decent work done before it reopens (although the investment might be a big one). Giant Drop could do with some work on the queue area, as it seems dodgy and boring. Other than that, I really don't see much of a need for any of the rides on the GC to be fully "refurbished" as such. I think the focus should be on maintenance and new rides, not rejuvenating old ones every few years. They can last quite some time without really needing that kind of work (TOT1 lasted 13 years, for example).1 point

Rezoning doesn't help Dreamworld become more like Disney or Universal Ardent Leisure CEO Deborah Thomas defends the rezoning by hinting at a Disney or Universal style precinct. It sounds great – but their major tourism zoning already allows for this. Click here to continue reading1 point

Except that it's currently broken. SE recently had some love so that won't happen for a while. SW has other priorities than refurbishment of an existing ride (JR) that's still relatively new in the grand scheme of things. DW has a lot to work on, but my money is on the park being unrecognisable in 5-7 years anyway so I'm not holding my breath on it being much of a theme park going forward, so I can't see them bothering to do much with it unless ownership changes to a company who actually wants to run a theme park. So that leaves VRTP to refurb maybe something at WnW since they haven't been in the news much lately, but do they really need anything? They're still popular. MW could expand around the wild west area, but I wouldn't expect that for some years yet.1 point

I don't ride Green Lantern very often, but I have ridden it numerous times and I don't recall ever hearing any audio. To be honest I didn't know there was any. Potentially I'd ride more often if I the audio were more consistent.1 point

ToT needs some maintenance, but not a full-on refurb. Superman and JR don't need anything really, in the case of JR Sea World should be putting their money towards new rides not refurbishing old rides. Also Scooby probably won't be refurbed until the end of the year. And can you please use some proper English grammar? A sentence-less paragraph is not easy to read.1 point

@MickeyD I must be in a good mood! I'm less optimistic we'll see anything this year with Village being on something of a spending freeze of late, in fact it wouldn't shock me if that was the bulk of the reason why it was closing for so long. But I love being surprised and at the very least if they can get the outside stuff working while it's closed then I'd see it as a worthwhile use of downtime1 point

I don't recommend Legoland to any adult really. I mean I guess miniland is cool, but the rides really are aimed at the younger set, but even then, they aren't even that good as kids rides anyway. As for a Day in Disneyland, Turn up before opening time. There is single rider on Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain and Matterhorn....Use them! I'm not sure how many people are in your group, but I'd do those rides as singles if it means you miss out on less of the rest. You may have to ask the entry host for a single rider ticket, which you carry through to the boarding area. Indiana Jones in partiular I have fond memories of my last visit where I rode it about 7 or so times, and got all the variants on the first scene. I think its the best thing there too anyhow As for the rest, yep Space Mountain is probably your #1 pick. Add to that Big Thunder Mountain, Star Tours as ones not to miss. The other good rides, Pirates of the Carribean and Haunted Mansion and Buzz Lightyear and 'its a small world' are high capacity as mentioned, so do them later on or if you need to kill time for when your fastpass slot is approaching. Have I missed anything? The rest of the lineup include Finding Nemo, Roger Rabbits Cartoon Spin, and then about 7 or so smaller dark rides in Fantasyland. Admittedly, I dont think I've ridden all the Fantasyland dark rides. If you are pressed for time, give a couple of them a go at least, but personally I found them to be very brief rides and you move quickly through the scenes...There's a bit of "was that it?" with some of them. If I was looking for rides to be the lower end of priorities, Autopia, the Monorail, Winnie the Pooh and the Teacups would be it. Probably the train and riverboat too. Im not sure if I'd recommend doing DCA and DL in one day anymore, since DCA is so much more fleshed out. You could probabl1 point

...hopefully all that chewing gum is removed from the underpass and surrounds at the start of the ride. Never understood why people vandalise/gum up/tag at Theme Parks. If I ever catch them..1 point

Wow brilliant news!!! So many good things to look forward to in the theme park industry in Australia at the moment- and the majority of the parks are stepping up their game!! This is the cream on the cake and has really flown under the radar!! Given the developments on the Gold Coast, the new plans and attractions for Aussie World, the $20 million dollar investment in LPS, the continuing expansion of Jamberoo, the new attractions at Funfields and Adventure Park, MI3 at Adventure World, plus now this its a great time to be an amusement park lover! Looking forward to hearing more news and info as it comes to light!1 point

You don't actually even need projection mapping. You can achieve this very cleverly just with some smart led strips suitably themed. Dont think smoke (as in glycol smoke) would be ruled out other than cost, as it would go through a lot of fluid with a blast every minute or two. Id love to design a new finale to that ride for a modest budget, but you still have to consider the ROI on an old attraction1 point

In the interests of everyone's sanity, let's try and keep these guidelines in mind when sharing photos from parks. 1. Don't ask for photos Rest assured if someone is in a position to get photos of something interesting, they will. 2. Don't ask what to take photos of By the same token, don't ask in advance if anyone wants photos of something in particular. If you see something cool, snap a photo and share it. 3. Don't tell us you're going to be taking photos We don't need to be told hours or days in advance of your impending visit. No one cares. Share the photos you do get, but you don't need to announce it in advance. 4. Check it's new before posting Try and keep up to date on the discussion and minimise duplicates.1 point
