The trackwork isn't complete yet, but there's already many reasons why I would love to ride Movie World's new hyper - if I had the money The drop, if the NL2 animation is accurate enough, should be one of the highlights of the coaster. It is steep and twisted, which should provide an amazing mix of airtime and snappy laterals similar to Expedition GeForce's first drop! Hopefully the trains will be long enough to make the most out of that drop. Snappy transitions seem numerous on this hyper, and with the very comfy and not burdening Mack restraints, I'm sure they'll be exciting to experience on-ride. Hopefully, the layout will contain more pops of airtime. While the ejector air I've felt on Mack coasters (Alpina/Helix) isn't the strongest, it's still good fun! A big sustained airtime hump would really be a big selling point. And finally, this coaster just looks really pretty! Vibrant colours, sweet curves and a gorgeous background, it is very picturesque and makes me want to ride the coaster even more. Overall, this is shaping to be a very solid attraction. I can tell it will be very reridable and memorable6 points

I appreciate that they need to do maintenance, and with Scooby's theme issues, Green Lantern's proximity to construction, along with regular annual maintenance periods of everything else, it is a very unfortunate time - but that doesn't make it acceptable. Like Sea World's total of RIDE, Movie World is very quickly approaching similar status, and although it might not bother passhole-ders too much, those who come for a single day pass or a short week's holiday are going to be sorely disappointed. So i'll say it - why can't they do annual maintenance on GL at the same time it is closed for hyper construction? Likewise, why can't Scooby have maintenance done at the same time they reinstall the theme elements? I'm not sure the situation for Superman, but two maintenance periods (ok, I assume they'd straddling a holiday period - kudos to them for not totally screwing their customers) totalling almost 4 months is outrageous given the recent lengthy downtime for repaint. Of note is that SE and GL are both down at the same time throughout June - but I wouldn't have thought that SE would be impacted by construction??? Now i'm guessing they're probably putting in a lot of work to make sure they're looking their best for GC2018, but without some sort of compensation to the average full priced joe punter, its very disappointing. And after writing all this, I decided to crunch some numbers... and here is what i've come up with: The worst time to visit will be from 14-26 August - a total of FIVE attractions will be closed, including Dodgems, West, Superman, Doomsday and Speedy's Taxis Close runner up with 4 attractions closed will be 5 June to 11 June - Superman, Lantern, Tweety and Yosemite A tie for second place - 17 July to 13 August - total of FOUR including dodgems, West, Superman and Doomsday (and likewise on 27 August also) Also a tie for second place - 4 September to 8 September, again FOUR closed - dodgems, Superman, Scooby and Batwing Coming in third, 12 June to 23rd June - Superman, Lantern and Tweety tie for third, 28 August to 17 September - dodgems, superman and scooby closed also tie for third - 9th october to 4th november - dodgems, JL3D and Yosemite train also tie for third - 6 november to 19th november - dodgems, green lantern and JL3D. I've included the WB attractions in the list as they are still attractions. Basically between now, and boxing day, the only day where the park is scheduled to be operating all of their attractions is the 25th of June. On every other day this year until Boxing day, at least one major attraction is closed for scheduled maintenance* *ok ok - theres ONE more day where all the big ones are open, but tweety is set for maintenance - 24th of June, the day before ETA: for anyone looking for a visual representation, here it is. THe ride names are visible but the dates are illegible - the first date (left) is 29/05/2017, with the last date (right) being 28/12/2017. yellow rows are major attractions, blue rows are WB Kids attractions.4 points

An advertisement played on Hot Tomato today advertising a new Night Parade these school holidays at Movie World. The ad said “Come to the all-new parade these school holidays from 6 o’clock”. It also said new characters will be introduced to MW during the holidays. In the past MW, has run a special parade event like the one below. The advertisement did not mention a name for the parade so what do people think it will be?2 points
-
Givin this parade is pretty much certainly going to be DC and the it's basically confirmed to be DC Hypercoaster at this point, I think the chances of themes overlapping are high. As much as I'm not one for the over DCing of everything I reckon it'd be pretty cool if they brought it back after the coaster opens and ran it during the Xmas holidays and just went to town with the comic characters. Hell they could even claim that the 10 year plan to bring DC to the park is complete and now is when you should come check it out and then go back to being actually creative with their themes next time they add something.2 points

Thank you guys for the warm response Part 2: Liseberg (April 2017) What an awesome view to get from the airport connection bus!How can you get GP friends to an quality amusement park that is off their beaten track? As a French coasterfan, I was always frustrated to hear from the 'lambas' (French for 'General Public') inaccurate or cliché comments like 'roller coasters are too violent and unconfortable' and 'it isn't scary because it doesn't have looping lol'. My non-goon friends had the same preconcieved ideas about coasters, and I was commited to try and change their minds about my burning passion for Taron & co. So I bundled a journey to Gothenburg with a day at its famous park. The fortunate location of Liseberg within the city meant that there was no hassle reaching the park. Thus selling the idea of going to Sweden to ride coasters was much easier. The entrance stands proud and pretty a few footsteps away from a streetcar station, looking to me like a gateway to seemingly endless fun and thrills. Almost as soon as we crossed the gates, the main attraction was already unmissable and impressing guests such as me and both of my friends. The main street isn't particularly outstanding per theming, but it still looks nice and clean with its foliage and little buildings. I did not want to scare off my friends (at least, not right away!), so we chose to start things in a gentle manner with Lisebergbanan. I realize I did not take outside pictures of this brilliant Schwarzkopf ride, but wait! I was allowed to film an on-ride POV, thus recording our reactions on our very first ride of the trip. (Pardon the French comments ^^) It was a very pleasant experience. It does shuffle a bit at the bottom of some turns and helixes, but this adds to the vintage and out-of-control feel of this fun terrain coaster. The Banan also has a few surprise direction changes that are swifter than I could imagine, and a couple of slight airtime humps. I did not get good interactions with Helix's trains but my first lap was still very satisfying Balder's looks on the internet were deceiving to my pals. Watching POVs one of them assumed it was a good, but mostly inoffensive coaster compared to its newer green multi-launched neighbor. Even a ride early in the day right after Banan proved them wrong! The drop definitely feels steeper and meaner in real life, and the small metal beams that were recently added above made it even scarier. As most will know, the quantity of airtime this woodie delivers is fabulous. It is significantly stronger than GCI's small hops on Heidi or Joris, but Wicked Cyclone felt decidedly more brutal and sharp with its ejectors. There was a slight rattle throughout the day in some turnarounds, however I did not mind at all. It still rides very confortably. In fact, the light vibrations help making the coaster feel more wild and like a traditional wooden coaster. This was our view on our way to Helix! Liseberg mastered the art of path/coaster interactions and thus built up our expectations for Helix to a very high level! Needless to say we went aboard our first train, front row, with huge anticipation... The well-known drop out of the station isn't revolutionary, but very unusual and effective! It shows right from the beginning how the coaster never loses speed and energy. The coaster as a whole isn't going insane forceful like Taron's second half, but still packs a punch and offers a wide variety of sensations. It feels like a different, but equally subtle and refined design philosophy compared to Intamin. The corkscrews and other rolls aren't as swift as on some other coasters, nevertheless they still throw you around in all directions (including forward!) while giving the rider the sensation of weightlessness at the same time. The acclaimed Mack lap-bars and trackwork make the whole experience very comfortable despite the relative intensity and snappiness, and none of my friends complained about vibrations or disconfort. In short, our first lap was excellent and we proceeded to ride once more! Afterwards one friend felt a little sick and we took a break. We rested a bit, took more pictures and went to Stjärnornas Krog for lunch. I had some decent BBQ Ribs (not pictured) while we pondered what would we go for next. The Ferris Wheel was our pick for its quiet ride and provision of nice overviews of the park and Gothenburg as well. Here are a couple of pictures I got from there: You can get some good overviews of Helix from here! It was then time to face the park's new for 2017 ride, Loke! I never rode a Gyro Swing before and I was curious to see if I could handle the intensity. Turns out I was able to, but 15 more second would probably have made me feel nauseous. There's good forces at both bottom and spikes on this one, and the flat ride provides excellent interactions with the surrounding Balder and river. That surge of intensity made us amicably (and temporarily) split: I went for a quick double ride on Balder, while my friends dared the cold weather on Kållerado. We rejoined for another ride on the Intamin woodie at the back, where we enjoyed getting sucked into the first drop at a surprising speed. We went back for something milder with Waltzer, a chairswing. Mechanica was the excuse for our second break-up. And to be honest, they were understandably right to sit out. This Zierer Starshape does provide some strong G+, but also nasty headbanging. Ugh. Feels more like a fairground attraction to me. The flat ride series continues with Hanghai. This shorter iteration of the Zamperla Disk-O has arguably inferior theming to its Plopsa and Astérix counterparts, but I enjoyed the no-hill version more. Gets straight to the point without a futile detour in my opinion. AeroSpin is quite noticable from most parts of Liseberg. It has a nice location on the main hill and the my ride greatly benefited from fairly strong winds due to the fairly high altitude. Our second lap on Lisebergbanan did felt more agressive, but that pales in comparison with AtmosFear's drop! Effective and thrilling as expected. I then went for a single rider lap on Helix. The wait had increased somewhat during the interval, growing from 10 to about 25 minutes. The longer queue gave me the opportunity to take the above picture showing some fences and concrete theming. It looks decent as it is, but I can't help but wonder how this contemporary scenery is going to age. At least the soundtrack is majestic I was reckless enough to order some nachos before the repeated night rides that were about to come... How does it taste? Unmemorable I guess. I took many more pictures this time around compared to Phanta. However there was none for evening Balder. Why? Well walk-on Intamin plug-n-play means no time for toying with the camera! The nonexistent wait meant I was able to chain 4 almost consecutive rides before 9pm ^^ Turns out my Express Pass wasn't necessary for that one! With hindsight, I'd rather recommend using Express Pass on Balder during the afternoon when the wait times are the highest, at least based on my one experience. The only downside of this sort-of-ERT was that the train wasn't fully loaded, and therefore Balder didn't feel any stronger or delivered better ejectors contrary to what I hoped. Oh well it's still a great coaster We spent our last Express Pass on night Helix at around 9:10pm. Predictably, I went on to get some solo rerides. However, something amazing was going to happen... (Picture courtesy of Oligao) So basically the wait times were getting shorter and shorter to the point my last ride was non-stop walk-on to my train seat. Not only that, but people were running across the queue maze in excitement to get their couple of laps! It was an awesome scene of collective coaster enjoyment. Passengers also clapped uninamously at the end on one ride. But the most heartwarming moment for me was that my friends, including the one that fell unwell at noon, joined me in this another practical ERT craze. And that one friend ended up shouting with delight the exact inversions' name as they went, as well as 'airtime!' on the hills. I am not the biggest fan of running commentary on coasters, but I was more than willing to make an exception that time! A week after my exilarating ERT on Taron, I was incredibly lucky to witness another personal moment of magic in an amusement park. Helix, even at night, wasn't as forceful or relentless as its German rival. But this experience with my GP friends was complete fun. The sequence of elements is so great, and well executed, that the relative lesser intensity didn't harm my (or other's) enjoyment at all. We left Liseberg with a big smile on our face, tired indeed, a little sick for one of us, but really satisfied! As I wrote before, the park doesn't have the most intricate scenery, however, its atmosphere is really lively and charming. Operations are pretty good, which means you have plenty of time to enjoy the magnificient duo of Helix and Balder. The interactions between so many different rides on the main hill sets Liseberg further apart from other parks. It's a truly specatular and peculiar landscape. This place is already amazing, and it will be even better with Valkyria coming in 2017!2 points

I'm hoping the new character relates to the coaster theme. I'm really hoping, like I'm sure @Zanstabar would be, the parade and coaster are2 points

I really would like a Wonder Woman coaster just for something different. No doubt some idiots would singe saying "bla bla pink, sexist, I'm a Vegan, bla bla" But Wonder Woman *something* *something would be fine with me.1 point

Fair enough and it seems you're right. Quick bit of searching puts WW 4th behind Batman, Flash, & Superman on this list http://www.ranker.com/crowdranked-list/best-dc-comics-heroes and 5th behind Superman, Batman, Joker & Robin on this list http://screenrant.com/most-recognizable-dc-characters-superheroes-villains/ Obviously a lot more iconic and recognisable than I gave credit to.1 point

Superman Escape opened just before the Superman Returns movie was released and those two things are incomparable. The movie wasn't that good, while the ride is fantastic. SDSC is a great ride and is based off the film, which wasn't that great. So whether the theme is WW or not, if the movie is or isn't good, it won't effect peoples perspective on how good a ride is.1 point

I don't know if you can call Wonder Woman an uncertain theme though. Even if the movie was a dud it'd still be a safe theme. I've been saying since the start a big DC hero, either Wonder Woman or Flash would've been perfect, the fact that against the odds DC have turned out a good movie for a change doesn't change affect whether a character is timeless or not.1 point

Another amazing TR! Ever since I've seen this park on a Theme Park Worldwide vlog, I'd always wanted to go. Looks absolutely incredible with the urban environment surrounding the park, thanks for sharing!1 point

Do we need to start with a list of non-current DC street characters at MW and start ruling them out? We have done such a great job with the coaster, I'm sure we have this too.1 point

Sorry, not sure what I need to be clued in about?? I was under the assumption the post that @Gazza made was speculation on his behalf, which he has now stated was a random guess. I also stated that my post was speculation based off some very brief google searching and from what has already been mentioned in the thread so far. I am happy for my speculation to be way off, just pointing out what I have found with no other knowledge I would say Gumbaya Park is pretty established, opening in 1978, albeit relatively small and underdeveloped. A new consortium has recently purchased the park, as posted by @ash.1111 above, and with this info on linkedin (Mark Shaw), looks like they will have a reasonable capex to run with for expansion ( I have made bold the relevant part): Gumbaya Park, according to articles found online, is also one of only 4 establishments in Victoria that holds a zoo license (Presumably the other 3 being Melbourne Zoo, Werribee Zoo and Healesville Sanctuary). So this ties in well with the animal tag that is attached to this thread. To my knowledge, Adventure Park to not have any animal enclosures or animals on display? Again, I am happy to be wrong, but I am leaning towards Gumbaya Park as the basis of this topic. And with 420 odd acres to play with, loads of space!!1 point

Doesn't make much sense to me. The water park space is starting to get rather congested in this country, every council pool with a tippin bucket is calling itself a water park now, and there must be about 4 or 5 actual water park developments in the pipeline. Surfrider is one of the things that sets WnW apart, why you would want to take away a unique feature that no other water park can match, and condeming the park to be a fairly decent collection of very old slides totally escapes me. Why give it to SW? Move something thats a unique point of difference at one park to being filler at another? Seems to me if you want to give SW some filler a new flat ride might be a better place to start, and probably wouldn't be much more expensive either.1 point

After a little digging, and without any other proof than some google searches, I have a suspicion it might be to do with the expansion of Gumbaya Park: http://www.gumbuya.com.au/ The main page on the website states that Gumbaya Park is changing with new attractions coming soon. It is approx. 1hr 15mins from Melb. Airport as stated in a previous post. The tags on the thread say Theme Park, Water Park, Animals.. which Gumbaya park has their zoo, some rides and other attractions. The most compelling evidence is google states on Mark Shaw's linkedin that he is currently consulting for Gumbaya Park. This is purely speculation on my behalf, based on some brief browsing.1 point

I wasn't sure if 'new kid on the block' was referring to the park itself, or if it is referring to Mark Shaw as being the new kid on the block at an existing park. It is hard for me to imagine a new park opening from scratch in November, with a decent line up of attractions, considering Melbourne's inclement weather during these winter months, which will play havoc with building and construction. Especially if the photos posted are fairly recent and no construction had actually started at that time.1 point

Let's be real though the parking situation at Dreamworld is fine at the moment. Also if they did have parking reserved for the grill why do they have to enforce it? Just put up a sign saying it's reserved and if someone else parks there so what. When it gets back to being full it really won't matter if the numbers for the grill drop off. 100% though I'd be advertising this as an alternative to all the other service centers and maybe even stay open till 7 and get that dinner/stuck on the M1 at 5pm rushh, or open early and see if they can get the tradies brekfast market for good measure. There's zero point having it open to outside guests if they don't advertise it.1 point

In the spirit of Thrillathon, I threw this video up of onboard Tailspin at night. For anyone who says it's not a thrill ride, watch this:1 point

While it's not perfect, I will say it's good they've tried and didn't just leave it as a blank green wall with an annual pass poster on it. Plus, if this is all we have to complain about so far, they're doing pretty well.1 point

Mack coasters at times appear slow/barely make it through inversions/elements on a few of their rides it seems, bizarre! This pre show was really cool btw1 point
-
Agreed. But as discussed in other threads here recently, an acted pre-show for a ride is pretty much history in our parks these days. Sadly.1 point

Not exactly a Trekkie but damn that pre-show is great. Reminds me of what a real movie park should be like.1 point

Don't get the continual "there at plenty of Joker rides at the park" comment. there are ZERO Joker themed rides. AA is not any more Joker Themed than it is Harley Quinn or Bane themed, in that they make an appearance in the queue line. It's themed to the collective group of bad guys1 point

There are plenty of people that already know and are keeping quiet so doubt a social media teaser would change that. People generally respect the parks wishes, either through contractual obligation or by a mutual respect1 point

You're feeling wrong. Other than a change in colours, the 'lightning' \ 'stardust' has been present for more than 2 years now: (Worth noting, this took about 3 seconds to figure out by googling 'VIP magic pass' in an image search and scrolling through images with the lightning \ stardust that had dates on them - try to do what others do here and check a few facts before just blurting a prediction out)1 point

No. I'm sure most members will agree it suits SW more and always has. But is it worth the money to move it - because they do need another attraction right now.1 point
