  1. Testing has started!!!!! Well on the lighting anyways. On way home today they had crews playing with coloured purple spot lights on the Stengel dive supports. Looked awesome!

  2. Nope no way. Do not light the whole track. Parts will start to fail and it will be a maintenance nightmare and look like shit. Stick to ground based flood lighting.

  7. On the other hand how much better would it be if instead of the character in the video projecting boredom and disinterest at you, they were instead taking a perverse pleasure in the 'therapy' that was in store for you? How much better might it fit the story of the ride? At the very least what are the chances of getting someone with an actual accent to redub it rather than struggling with a fake one?

  8. they could very well have been white lights, and the colour of the track is what you saw it could be purple. I like that they're planning lighting, but I would have loved to have seen LED strip run the length of the track - REALLY make it pop at night. Either way, i'm glad to see they haven't blown their wad entirely on the coaster and have something left over to make it look nice - hopefully that extends to landscaping and perhaps even some themed elements along the ride course. it's not fuschia.

  9. Before I actually rode one I would have agreed with you but after having been on quite a few now I can say they are anything but boring or repetitive. They have loads of airtime and speed. Overall I would actually rank them quite high on my list of favourite coasters, typically above other coasters with loads of inversions or "one trick ponies" Back on topic I think that Dreamworld will need to do something but agree that at the moment they need to focus on removing the TRRR. While it would be nice to see something big take over the place my personal opinion would be for Dreamworld to reopen the area with a few smaller family/thrill attractions (Think a couple of Funtime rides) and refurb Eureka. Then once that has opened begin teasing towards a new larger attraction, what I don't really know but even if it is just a decent woodie that would be awesome. So an indicative timeline for the Goldrush Area could be: 12 Months: Removal of TRRR 18 Months: Reopen area with a few smaller attractions/refurb of Eureka 24-36 Months: Build a new big attraction

  10. I'm about done with this forum. Is this a place where theme park enthusiasts meet or.... ?

  11. I've been following all the coaster updates for a while now, thought it was time to maybe return to the forum after years and join in the fun. I honestly can't get past the name of this coaster. Visiting parks overseas and seeing all the types of coasters emerging, it seems like Australia is the only ones being totally literal with this. The fact that the word "Megacoaster" is in the name frustrates me a bit. It's like MW have to explain to people what the thing is. "DC Rivals" doesn't even feel like a name, it feels moreso like an explanation of the theming.... I would have gone with something towards JOKER also...

  13. Must... Avoid... Feeding... Trolls... I'll avoid going all Robb Alvey on you @wikiverse, but I think you're taking the subtext of "they're in an insane asylum and thus all boring shells of a person" and just adding your own to fit your agenda. Have a beer, enjoy VR, watch the video, CTFO.

  14. Movie World's skyline now is stunning. You have the charcoal black coaster right up the back, with the red coaster to the left, then the green coaster right up front with half of the completed "fuschia" coaster. Breath taking. #themeparkporn

  15. What are we basing this "initially thought demand" on? It's somewhat apparent from the station layout that the back row will have its own queue. You know what will happen when that queue reaches a certain length? People will skip it and join the main queue or find something else to ride. It's kind of how rides have worked for a century or so...

  17. There are many cases where the 'fast track' pass at parks doesn't qualify for special seats. Many don't let you use the fast track pass for the front row. I see this will be no different here. If you want the premium seat (back or front) you have to wait like everyone else. That's the best system. Anyone who says differently is a very selfish person. As for Fast Track in generak for Rivals I would say I very much like the idea of an add on for this. $15, single ride, and only available with the purchase of a park wide Fast Track pass. Magic Mountain do this for X and it works well.

  18. Yes, was at Dreamworld today and they did around 20-30 tests this morning and reopened the TOT at around 3:30pm. The reason why the 3 slides are down is due to a pump failure, according to Dreamworld staff. Rocky hallow log ride is reopening before July 20, according to a staff member I spoke to, but this is probably not accurate. The claw was having trouble today due to it not swinging high enough, large amounts of maintenance workers were observing the ride and there were lots of test runs. The ride reopened after a short closure. The western side of the Giant Drop operated earlier today in the morning. Pink little rippers is still down after many months, and will require maintenance, will most likely open in the summer when visitor numbers increase. Had so much fun today Most of the ride is disassembled. The surfboards are hanging out at the 'bits and pieces' area of the park which is interesting. Lots of welding going on also.

  19. My god, if that was the case MW would just remove the back car since it wouldn't be used most of the year anyway. I could see it being $5 - same price as VR seems about right. 10 at most.

  21. Pay close attention to the track rails above the supports \ across the top of the loop - you can clearly see some twists in there to show it isn't a regular loop...

  22. How many years before we can expect a re-theme with a new name? MW marketing team will probably come out with something like "Large, pink fast coaster featuring <insert dc character>"

  25. Lots of queue jumping upcharges have tiers, still think it'd be a bad idea. I think most people will queue for a bit, then realize that the short queue of 40 people ahead of them will take nearly an hour, get jack of it and just ride forwards, while only the most rusted on types will see out the wait.

  26. I guess too the Mack gates would come in default modules and the back gate just won't get used. I suppose there's also flexibility to have the last car converted to a normal one for whatever reason.

  27. I can only imagine the queue on Fright Night..... last year AA was one hour. I'd expect pretty much your whole night gone for this one.

  28. I don't think it's a secret that the construction process is directly tied to logistics. New track/supports arrive, there's a hive of activity for a little while and then things slow down until more parts arrive. It's also worthwhile to note that it's perfectly plausible that they built flexibility and extra time into the construction schedule anticipating shipping delays. Testing is due to commence in August; this was said in the same breath as the October opening date. That seems to indicate that things are still well on track and this isn't a delay so much as a strategic decision. October makes sense as an official date because it can be tied in with Fright Nights, a teen/adult oriented event rather than the school holidays. But you'd expect that a soft open ("technical rehearsal") takes place in the weeks leading up to Fright Nights if everything goes according to plan during August testing.

  29. I agree, hopefully it gets the point across to hold the headset in your hands until you're seated. The amount of people I have seen putting them on and trying walk blindly to the gates astonishes me. Though I have to say most culprits appear to be non-English speaking tourists so not sure how much impact the video will have. I think it would have been awesome if they found someone to play Harley Quinn dressed as a nurse giving the spiel. As it currently stands the video is jarring with the story of the queue line that the Joker has already taken over the Asylum.

  32. I sure as hell didn't go to Disney for the current film tie-ins. I went because it's a family friendly, magical and historic theme park. Getting a photo with Mickey, riding the train, wearing the mouse ears un-ironically, seeing the Dumbo ride, Carousel and walking through the Castle. Then came the next reason: rides. Disney Parks don't thrive because of current films. It helps, but it's only a fraction of the attraction. The magic of Disneyland for me reminded me of the magic I felt as a child visiting Dreamworld in the late 80s and early 90s. The fountain, main street, singing quartet, paddle steamer and bushranger show, Village Green and the Jamboree show. I now understand the leaked email and subsequent release on their focus of an experience of visiting Dreamworld. I long to see Gold Rush and Blue Lagoon turned into an RMC and well-themed Australiana area. I do, I want signature rides, but that's only ever been a small part of the magic Dreamworld gave me as a kid and teenager (in the way of Thunderbolt and Eureka). It's a bold step to take the park on this 'nostalgia' and 'memorable experience' route, to sever the cord on the thrills arms race against VRTP, and I guess history will only tell if it's the best move. An ARG would send this site nuts.

  33. My 2c is it will make a small difference but not a devastating difference. The business they will lose is the tourist that only has a short amount of time to visit all the parks and has to sacrifice one. However by MW having the hyper it should increase tourism to the area anyway. I know each of the 3 times i've been to the GC i've done all the theme parks. Really the only ones i would skip now are Sea World and Wet n Wild. Playing arm chair CEO / Marketing Dude i would think the following... I'm on the too soon band wagon for Dream World to go out and build something massive and go all in your face with the marketing something like that would deserved. I think they need to be spending this time removing TRRR, building the memorial they've spoken about and planning. Get everything behind them, and then start with a clean slate. Otherwise they will just keep dredging it up again every time they do something with the area and keep tainting their image and bringing it back up in peoples minds. Out of sight = out of mind. Then come the new year - 2018 - they need to start with a bang and then keep it rolling - Maybe a massive new years party, followed by a new years day party. Regular announcements about new things and changes. Doesn't have to be expensive new rides, hold a new event - funny hat day, dress like a wiggle day, hell hold an eating competition! Good clean fun style events. Throw in some prizes - free return entries / season passes / discounted F & B / Merch etc. These will do two things - bring back the existing pass holders and encourage them to spend more time in the park, which will make for a better atmosphere all round and 2) draw in the kids, and the parents and hopefully just make people happy all round. As an added bonus the winners of the free return entries / season passes they will hopefully return again. Come April they'll have the Commonwealth Games in town - so big time for tourism. They should have some related activities scheduled for that period - IE mini commonwealth games events. These things will not only continue the good clean fun, but also soak up the crowd a bit. Then in the lead up to the end of the year start an adventure world style campaign like they did for Abyss. Gorilla style marketing, subtle hints and challenges to solve a riddle and get the story line etc. Basically do the complete opposite of Movie World.

  34. ^ or customs are not happy with something. Keep in mind there is wooden crates and wood pieces between tracks and supports. Maybe some of the contianers have wood that customs does not like. (Just an idea if in fact there is a hold up) or it could be the other way around they are ahead of schedule meaning the track is not coming quick enough for the speed there installing track.

  36. Hey, just totally curious, and look, totally cool if you did, it happens, we're all human, but.... Did you forget that Disneyland's mascot hasn't been in a feature film in nearly 2 decades? I'm just curious because it makes your whole argument about nostalgia kind of bunk, that's all. And you know Dreamworld works closely with Dreamworks, right? I'm not 100%, but they've also had big blockbusters around the same time as Pirates, Star Wars, Pixar etc etc the list goes on and on, as you say. And we won't worry about Dreamworld's connections with ABC Kids World, The Wiggles etc. as you say, Dreamworld has nothing to fall back on. We done here? Can we get back on topic? TLDR: Nostalgia & Innovative ideas are key.

  38. Yeah but the point of that part of my post was to list some arbitrary things they COULD build to have something to market next year. I don't think they'll build a Eurofighter or a new dark ride either. My point was that no matter what it is they want to build, pretty much they can and they need to back themselves and do something really good and it needs to be done by Christmas next year.

  39. Because we're not megalomaniacs that just want to throw bans and punishment around despite otherwise interesting discussion. Pretty sick of the backseat moderating and witch-hunt that everyone seems to be engaging in here. This a thought-provoking topic backed up with well reasoned opinions and facts. It's totally worthy of discussion. Keep your conspiracy theories to yourselves, and if you're posting replies or hitting that downvote button based on anything other than what's being discussed in this topic, then maybe take a break from Parkz for a few days because it's obviously all too much for you.

  42. Off topic for a minute - but this is precisely the answer to people who sit there and whinge about why we're getting another coaster instead of a dark ride, or walk through, or monorail. Coasters are what people get excited about. You asked for people's thoughts \ opinions - and i'm sorry but I have to agree with @Reanimated35 - I've seen more asian tourists in DW than in SW on a regular basis - Corroboree, wildlife experience \ tigers bring just as many tourists to Dreamworld - and proximity to the strip doesn't impact on the Asian tourbus market - because they're on a tour bus. The itinerary many of these groups have - its far more enticing to pull off the highway for an hour's experience than to travel into a dead end spit. Plus - many of these tourists have the same marine life - dolphins, seals and sharks - in marine parks in their own backyard. Kangaroos, Koalas etc are unique to Australia, and the experiences offered at Dreamworld trump that particular demographic every time (although, Paradise Country offers similar). Dreamworld's main competitor is VILLAGE ROADSHOW. It has been said many times - what Village offer across their properties is what dreamworld offers in one place. Wildlife? Paradise Country or Dreamworld. Exotic animals and animal experiences? Sea World or Dreamworld. Waterpark? Wet N Wild or Dreamworld (WWW), big thrill rides? Movie world or Dreamworld. See the pattern here? Note - i'm firmly in the VRTP camp. Other than free \ event after hours admissions to Dreamworld, I haven't been in a few years. Meanwhile i'm a passholder to village, and have almost continuously held one since 2008. I prefer VRTP's offerings. Nothing i've said above is to suggest that DW's offering is better - only that the comparisons between both corporations can be drawn easily enough - and not discounted as quickly as you have.

  43. I thought this was a terrible idea when I first read about it, but after seeing it in action I actually take that back and don't agree with those who still sit in that boat. Sure, it doesn't have the nostalgia ToT did, or the same atmosphere that ride gave, but Disney certainly hasn't dropped the ball with theming, in fact I would dare say that they have upped their game with this ride. Okay, the Twilight Zone was popular, but it's getting quite old now and the youth of today are definitely going to jump for a GotG-themed ride over a Twilight Zone-themed ride. As @MickeyD said, it feels fun, and I think that's what Disneyland is all about. I do think I would've preferred to ride it as ToT, but I see absolutely nothing wrong with this ride, except for the whole "don't fix what's not broken" thing - but Disney has done it now, so I see no reason to complain because it still looks like a great ride.
