This reminds of when VR got added to Arkham Asylum. Folks went into an over-analytical nose-dive about how this would be the end of Arkham Asylum's capacity. Here's a shocker though (pun intended), it really didn't change, the world kept spinning, everyone here loves VR and now six months later we're finding a new thing to whinge about. Honestly, how this is a thing is beyond me. For those who just can't shake the thought of backwards seats, here's a two step guide on how to deal with it. Dealing with backwards seating: A Guide Step 1) Ignore it and go about your day. Step 2) If you're still worried about it and the fact that it may make your wait-time longer, set your alarm earlier and get to Movie World before everyone else.8 points

And this whole thread is why the Parks find this to be a big joke and a great lunch time story ๐ @Slick The park appreciates everything you do and give 100% and also deliver great products! The guys who need to give their two cents don't matter and just jealous of how much the Parks respect your work and why they continue asking you back! ๐๐ป๐๐ป I don't comment on these threads often, I find it more humorous to read, but I can't let you tear into someone for their great work.6 points

Yeah I'm kinda in the camp of if you're too big to fit on the ride, maybe riding coasters shouldn't be your priority right now.5 points

The TVs could just be on a loop and have been on auto-play since the inmates caused havoc. This is the second thread tonight that's made me realise why we as a community can't have nice things. Folks want to pick apart the dumbest things that are the very thing that the parks giggle at us about. Theme parks are about fun and happiness. If you're over-analysing queue line videos for the purposes of bitching without offering anything positive or constructive, or you're nitpicking something as awesome as backward seating on a roller-coaster ( a roller-coaster, might I add, that's so big, it's the very thing we collectively have wanted since these forums started) and you're only whinging because you're worried about waiting for too long, maybe theme parks and having fun isn't for you.5 points

Did you need a black pot to go with your kettle mate? Just get over your buthurt about two friken seats on a train. Who cares. Stop flogging the issue that no sane person should possibly care about. How do you know the train wasn't going to be 2 seats shorter and they in fact ADDEDD capacity for backwards.4 points

No need to of course, but it's still that few percent extra, like adding a non standard helix at the end of your SLC, or adding a dark ride before your 0-100 launch. Both of those coasters would have been almost as good without those things, but adding extras just pushes you over the top. I think the backwards seats just add even more awe to an already awesome ride, and capture a certain group of people who want even more. Nothing wrong with going above and beyond to wow your audience.....Did you notice how they did it as a kicker at the end of the trailer. People would have been sold on the ride before they even mentioned the backwards aspect. Its like how Steve Jobs used to do that "One more thing" at the end of his Keynote addresses.4 points

How will this in any way affect loading time, though? Sure, the queue for the backwards seats will probably take a while, affecting those in that queue. But those are the people who actively chose to wait longer to ride the thing backwards. I don't imagine it takes any longer than usual to buckle people into a backwards-facing seat, so if you don't ride it backwards, that "gimmick" as you call it won't affect you. A gimmick, though? It's a unique aspect. As people have said, every ride that VRTP build goes above and beyond to make sure it is distinguishable from others around the world, and not just a basic clone of every other ride of its type. The added helix to an SLC, the elevator lift and extensive theming on a Wild Mouse, the four-abreast seating on an El Toro... And now one backwards row on a hyper. It will not affect capacity, the only thing it will affect is there will be one line of people who have to wait longer to ride it backwards. By the sounds of things, the people complaining won't ride it backwards, and therefore it DOESN'T AFFECT YOU. And besides, it adds a whole new ride experience to the same coaster. I'm keen to go and ride forwards for my first ever hyper. But then, once I've ridden it a few times and already had the experience, I have the option to do it backwards. Different experience, different thrills. Two for one. Why are people complaining? Who gives a sh*t if it's gimmicky - it's clever, it's unique, it's a world-first and it's going to draw crowds and be incredible.3 points

Next time I'll be sure to recommend the park to spend ten times the budget to satiate something so ridiculously minor that no one but you will ever think of. Seriously, in pretend make belief world, of which this exists in, the tv's could just be a live feed that the nurse takes over. So far, I've squashed two of your over-analytical brain dumps with two very simple rationales. Time to drop it mate. Ill say this again, we're so lucky that parks go to the effort to bother try and do new things, especially when the reception from their loyal fans is nothing but criticism. And to put any doubts at rest, I'm not Robb Alvey, I don't give a crap who likes or doesn't like me or my work, frankly, putting yourself out there in the world requires having a thick skin. I have no time for animosity or holding grudges. What's actually giving me the shits is this attitude folks here on the forums have cultivated lately. Chillout, have a beer, remember this isn't Disney, and keep in mind that when you're just negative for the sake or being negative without offering anything of merit to justify a critical opinion, you're bumming everyone else out about theme parks, a place about fun and happiness. TLDR: Stop it. Theme parks are about fun. Quit nitpicking and appreciate you're not starving in a third world country.3 points

Yes it is true that the different sugars react differently in the body, but it is to such a small degree. Especially the simple sugars; glucose and fructose (fruit sugars). That one is no better or worse than the other. (By the way lactose is the "milk sugar" not glucose ๐) Fruit juices (boost included) are by far a worse option than soft-drinks. Most people view them as healthy and don't realise how much sugar is packed into them and therefore don't feel as "bad" for consuming them. Its like the people that say they put honey in their tea because it's healthier than sugar. (Honey actually contains more calories than standard table sugar)2 points

Yeah I don't get all the back row anger. If you don't like it just done ride in the backwards row. It will in no way affect your time in the house. **note if any idiot decides they feel the need to pedantically point out that it affects 2 people per cycle capacity so it does affect them I will ban you for one week2 points

Wow, and here I was thinking Jordan M. had just made up something completely. Sorry Jordan!! I'm just surprised, considering how much the mine ride has been dissected to death on these forums over recent years, that the old thread doesn't even seem to have been revived with this major confirmation. I am really surprised about this announcement for so many reasons. I thought, as I'm sure many others did, they'd be looking to remove all traces of Gold Rush and build an entirely new precinct in the area. And I certainly didn't think considering everything that has happened they'd take a chance in recommissioning an old ride like this one, not that I'm against it. Unless it is going to be an entirely new ride, which seems unlikely. They can't get Wipeout up and running -- how are they going to manage mine ride?1 point

If people buy it, they'll sell it. You can't blame the parks for the unhealthy habits of society. Also people don't go to the parks every day, its a treat, that's how the food should be viewed1 point

I like the system Dollywood uses. A cup of water is free, available at any outlet in the park and encouraged/pushed at every ride on a hot day. Bottled water is pay.1 point

+1 to the food playing an important aspect of park judgment. good food keeps you happy. bad food literally leaves a bad taste in your mouth about your day. I like that the parks have taken steps towards improving their offerings across the board. Why should a wrap cost as much as a burger? Here's the thing: pre-making prior to opening means you have to GUESS how many people want to be healthy. Make too many, and you'll have to throw them out at the end of the day, or severely discount them to entice people to buy. These losses have to be factored into the pricing - so you charge more. Secondly, those healthy conscious people? They're also the ones who would typically ask for something to be 'freshly made' despite something having been made only 20 minutes prior... Or they'll claim an allergy or intolerance specifically to get something made fresh (there are legit allergies, i'm not saying people are full of it, but i've seen many people order something due to allergy, and then later eat the very thing they claimed to be allergic to). So with this in mind - you've either got to maintain a station \ ability to make fresh on request, or you're going to disappoint those who would buy fresh - either way not selling your pre-made stuff. Burgers are cook to order. There's a high enough demand that you can batch cook stuff, knowing that they'll sell. When demand starts to die down, you slow down your production line - less waste means lower costs. As far as mass producing wraps, there isn't MUCH more effort in production, but healthier ingredients tend to cost more too. Mass producing burgers is a quick process perfected by fast food organisations for decades. Back before McDonald's did "made for you" they'd produce each burger on a tray of 16. One didn't have to be precise with each ingredient - so long as it fell somewhere on the tray, it made it on there, so things like applying lettuce is a much faster process than trying to fill 'between the lines' so that a wrap can be... wrapped... From memory - the 'automated' touch screen stations at Sea World did offer water, but not sure whether you could get plain soda water. Some of the older style post mix stations do have a 'water' lever, and some of them even have a 'soda' lever. Not sure if they are on any of the other ones in-park though.1 point

Why should a wrap cost as much as a burger? Can't you make them up at the start of the day? I sure hope that $8 bottle of water is a big one. Many places have machine dispensed bottles of water that are a lot cheaper than that. And there are those water fountains that also have the bottle refilling taps. Just out of interest, is water or soda water an option at the post mix stations? I do think it's cool when parks and resorts have those refillable souvenir mugs. I also think that many people see a day out in the parks as a novelty and thus would be more than happy to have some fast food. Sometimes, it could be that they're just after high energy food, having the need to replenish their stocks after an energy sapping morning running around the parks. I definitely think food and eating options play an important aspect in how we judge a successful park. If there isn't a great range of food or places to go, or if a park loses a dine-in option, you tend to not like the park as much.1 point

I would assume any regular safety system would have monitoring on the seat belts and if it had come undone part way through, the ride would have had a safety stop. I realise the ride is as harmless as they come, but if your child had come out of the car, and been hit by a following car, the car would have won. Its disappointing that the operator responded in that way, but what's worse is that the ride didn't have a safety system to immediately detect the problem. They made it official, you say? The mine ride is definitely returning you say? We will "be looking at bringing back old favourites......later this year" That to me does not say "We're definitely bringing it back by the end of the year" it says to me that "we're going to look and see what is viable" and "we're going to do that later this year" It's hardly what I'd call "making it official that it's returning"1 point

I don't think healthy food is too much of an issue at our parks. Typically, you only buy one meal (Lunch) and if you are buying sweets etc, it's because you want that food, not for sustenance. If I'm eating park food, it's a cheat meal, and you can eat a healthy brekky and dinner when you get home. At MW you can get sandwiches at the Main St Deli, wrap at Village Bean, and the build your own burritos at DHB has lean grilled meat and plenty of vegetables and salsas served with it. There's a Village Bean at WnW too, but WnW only has a couple of food outlets anyway. At DW, they've got sandwiches at that sandwich bar, and at Green Bean, and I guess you could eat at the Buffet and stick to healthier options there. At SW, there's Village bean, that healthy food place at the top terrace near the entrance. I don't know the menu well enough at dockside, but another option is just to eat at the Resort. As for drinks, well water is literally the most ubiquitous option since just about every gift shop has a small drink fridge. Anything else has sugar (Except maybe Bepis Max / Conke Zero) Please nobody say juice bar is a real option. Thats basically a liquid meal, and not what you get when you dehydrated and want to quench yourself. PS, I want parks here to sell the old style non fizzy lemonade like you can get at the US parks...That was my go to item.1 point

I have them the benefit of the doubt last Monday as it wasn't finished but now I'm not. This screams of we ran out of money. The unfinished gal beams for the roof, the flag green walls. Come on that's half assing it best and makes it look like a shitty zoo exhibit. Does the front facade still have that awkward bit of bare galvanized support sticking out at the end?1 point

Comparison Photo 2 (Non-Inverted Loop/Pretzel Helix): They positioned the construction vehicles in the worst possible places. So here's an alternate angle on the loop. Lighting is a physical object that's being added to the coaster, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be a part of "construction". When the queue starts being built and there are elements of theming being put in, does that mean we're not allowed to talk about them here because they're part of the theming? NI loop is really starting to take shape now, looking forward to the big statement it makes out the front of the park.1 point

Not with a toddler? Because famously toddlers like to sleep in yeah? Here's the thing if you make an entrie train backwards that reduces capacity for the much more popular forwards facing seats, and you've got the issue of having a train down for maintainence which hasn't been addressed. The backwards train would also require a dickton of modification to have a full train of backwards seats. Having one of each is just not a well thought out idea. Realistically, there'll be challenges in managing it, but I think the length of the queue will sort out the demand issue for the back seat. "I kinda wanted to sit in the back but it's a 45min wait v a 10 min wait for a forward seat, don't think I'll bother" is a scenario that will play out a lot I reckon. I'm the sort of person who would have made the whole train forwards and would've bought a 3rd train so there's always 2 trains available, but you have to admit that the backwards gimmick has really captured the public's imagination, but I'd wait to see what acfually happens before making changes.1 point

Dreamworld was profitable. It was making Tens-of-Millions of dollars a year in profit. Those profits were not being re-invested back into the park. They were being used to build Main Event Bowling Alleys in the United States. It is exactly that lack of re-investment into maintenance, park safety, and staff training that Dreamworld now finds itself in a position with 3 major rides closed, another undergoing extensive maintenance and a damaged brand - at a time when their competitor is building the largest and most expensive single attraction at an Australian Theme Park. I'm not buying the 'poor Ardent - just trying to feed hungry mouths' nonsense for a second. If they had been re-investing in the park, instead of bowling alleys they wouldn't be having these problems at all. This is a self-made problem for Ardent and I suspect a lot of people on this forum believe Ardent haven't learned a thing from it.1 point

I had that issue with the headset the first couple of times, but I found if you tighten it as much as it can be that doesn't happen. My only complaint would be it's uncomfortable against my nose! A bit of soft rubber padding would no doubt solve that.-1 points

I think it's good that each park focuses on different types of attractions. I wouldn't want Dreamworld to be basically a copy of Movie World. I think the recent statement by Dreamworld that they intend to focus on offering "experiences that stay with you" rather than thrills, is potentially on the right path. Just depends on them making sure those new experiences are of high enough quality to impress their target customers enough that they'll go to Dreamworld in preference to Movie World. In other words, not everyone thinks a rollercoaster is the best type of theme park attraction, and if Dreamworld creates new rides and other attractions that appeal to those people who don't, then they should be able to secure those people as long-term customers. I keep saying this, but Dreamworld should focus their investments on creating Dream-like experiences (which can include rides, but also other attractions too).-1 points

I agree, hopefully it gets the point across to hold the headset in your hands until you're seated. The amount of people I have seen putting them on and trying walk blindly to the gates astonishes me. Though I have to say most culprits appear to be non-English speaking tourists so not sure how much impact the video will have. I think it would have been awesome if they found someone to play Harley Quinn dressed as a nurse giving the spiel. As it currently stands the video is jarring with the story of the queue line that the Joker has already taken over the Asylum.-1 points

Oh I'm sorry Alexis. I had no idea that the coloured lighting along the track had nothing to do with the theme - considering discussion of the theming for this coaster was strongly condemned in this thread, one would assume light bulbs/coloured LED lights couldn't be discussed either as it's clearly theme related! Can you kindly explain in fine detail the difference between discussing the theme of the coaster (which is related directly to the construction as per your logic) and the difference between the coloured light bulbs along the track are? I'd love to here your reasoning for the huge differences between theme discussion and construction discussion. Or.. will you just delete my comment because you cbf being wrong and don't wanna be caught breaking your own rules?-2 points
