  3. I'm not a fan of the Claw because my stomach doesn't handle it too well, but when I've ever visited DW with friends or family, they all have to ride it because they love it so much. I'd say it is probably one of the most popular rides at the park. The ride is about having maximum impact, and this ride will definitely have that for AW. It can hold a large amount of people at once, and is unlike anything anything already at the park. For people to say that they shouldn't have chosen this type of ride, or that DW has one, why bother. It isn't like DW is just down the road, its across the whole country over 4000km away. Most people wouldn't have seen this type of ride before and will be a great addition to the park. And based off the fact there was 12 trucks of theming, its going to look great in the park. Yes there is plenty of other choice they could've gone with, log ride, laser river, etc, but they could be a part of future stages. The park is growing, and is likely to eventually have all those things, it will just take time, and they have to be smart about what they decide to get next, to have that maximum impact on the park.

  4. I dont think you will see a lazy river for at least 2 years but that is just an opinion. It makes sense but does cost a lot to install and run. I know what I would focus investment on going forward but it is down to Andrew and the board now and Andrew is superb at putting plans into action.... Maybe some "out with the old, in with the new thinking? There is a lot of "old stock" at AW that needs removing/replacing

  5. They're already doing more marketing for their $3 million dollar slide than Movie World is doing for their $40m coaster. Go them

  7. So excited to see the big camelback now completed! It should certainly be one highlight of the ride. Some comparison pictures: (Picture of Helix by Oligao) (Picture of Flash by gavin on CoasterForce) Difficult to exactly tell since the camera angles aren't the same, but I think DC Rivals' got the tallest hill overall. Maybe it is slightly steeper too (which is even harder to judge). Of course height and steepness doesn't matter much if speed is lacking. But don't worry, coasterfans in Europe generally agree that Mack's latest coasters provide good, sustained airtime! As you may know, I've been on Alpina Blitz and Helix, and while I think the air isn't ridiculously insane as on El Toro and GeForce, it's very good nonetheless. What makes DC Rivals' camelback very interesting is its unrivalled height by Mack standards. You may get a very, very sustained and decently strong airtime indeed ;)

  9. Im thinking something like this (The blue part I'm not sure about, but based off the video, they may be using that area) In the video you can see down the bottom there are walls, which I imagine will be for theming of some sort.

  10. I also live in NZ, Rainbows End is a surprisingly well maintained theme park with some excellent rides, especially the coca cola corkscrew which is still operating well, a bit bumpy but hasn't gone under maintenance since 2015 so obviously in a healthy state. I went there in march, three days before AA opened. Would love to see another ride there soon. Gotta say it's definitely something worth checking out if your in Auckland.

  11. Hi everyone, I'm new here but a long time reader of the forums and a huge fan of the Gold Coast theme parks. I live in New Zealand, and unfortunately we only have one 'real' theme park here; Rainbow's End. Although it's definitely not up to the standard of other parks overseas, and is quite small in size and number of attractions, personally I still think it is a great park with lots of potential. I don't see much regarding Rainbow's End here on Parkz, so I thought I would just let you all know about a few developments the park has recently completed. A few months ago, the 'AA Driver's Town' opened in the area where the old cinema 180 used to be. I checked it out a few weeks ago, and although obviously intended for young kids, it's still a good addition to the park and the facades and other details like traffic lights look really good. Rainbow's End also has a new modern front entrance and ticket booths which are a huge improvement over the old front gate where there was only one lane into the park! I also came across this article which is an interview with the CEO of Rainbow's End, Chris Deere. https://blooloop.com/features/going-for-gold-at-rainbows-end-how-kidz-kingdom-changed-the-theme-parks-fortunes/ He mentions how he wants to incorporate virtual and augmented reality into the park, as well as possibly adding a dark ride. If you're ever in the Auckland area, I really would recommend a visit to Rainbow's End because it is a good park; but don't have your expectations too high because it's definitely not on the level of Movie World or Dreamworld in terms of number/quality of attractions. My favourite rides at the park are the Stratosfear (Zamperla Discovery Revolution, does a 360° rotation), the Gold Rush (a small coaster through an abandoned gold mine, with animatronics and decent theming) and the Enchanted Forest log flume (it's a charming little ride ) Rainbow's End still has it's Arrow double corkscrew coaster (same ride as the Sea Viper), I believe it was built in 1986. It still seems to be running fine, but I would be happy if the park decided to remove it and replace it with a new coaster; obviously there's not much land (or money) to work with, but it would be a step in the right direction to help really transform the park. I'm interested to hear all of your thoughts on Rainbow's End and if you have any ideas for future attractions that could be possible for the future. I'm looking forward to being involved here on Parkz! (Photos from Rainbow's End's Facebook page)

  12. Yeah why would they go will Huss? No chance. They'd probably want to do an Intamin tower to make it visually distinguishable from their existing POS

  14. For those who are interested, AW posted a progress time lapse of MI3 on their YouTube. Says part 1 at the beginning so we can assume they will be doing atleast one more update before the ride opens.

  19. They should build a "Laser River" before AW do - it'd be another thing both parks would have in common.

  21. Brand new experiences... drive the Vintage Cars.... blindfolded! ride the Log Ride.... backwards! And then in 5 years, we'll switch them around and call them New Rides!

  22. A few months ago it was all about imagination, now it's about experiences? Sounds like precisely the opposite of of identifying their core values. It's laughably over-the-top and transparent use of a buzzword in place of actual substance. It's a nervous brand totally unsure of who and what they are, run by a management team that has no gut-level understanding of the theme park industry, or even what Dreamworld is. Adding the word 'experience', 'magic' or 'precinct' to everything doesn't make it so.

  26. They have been this way for about six months. A few reasons: testing showed that they got more exposure and interaction in this forum, the tagging system is able to make them stand out better than it used to, and of course... they are theme park related. The plan is to move all the old articles over (they'll of course be buried many pages back) and remove that section permanently. That just requires the development of a script that updates all the links and images in the old articles (some date back to Roller-Coaster.com.au days).
