Time for todays update, and a few things that have gone un-noticed and some inside goss. Firstly, a shout to the guys from LOGAN STEEL who are constructing the coaster. Awesome work guys. So, as shown by @Jakev8 the first pieces of track for the lift hill have been installed today. I've been told the lift hill will be completed next week, with a 350 tonne crane arriving at the start of the week. And the chain should be installed end of next week, beginning of the following week. And then the track will be done, and the electricians will take over. The stairs and other pieces of track and supports are ready for installation The first piece of theming can be seen, along with some of the other walls which will form part of it (As we saw in the video). Could this part link to Aquaman with the shark and ocean water seen? I've been told that the drop will actually be steeper than 90 degrees as you go over the top, and will twist as it drops down. Few other things around the site What is this? And a support missing for the air time hill And a few nice shots of the track11 points

The shut down is limited to early model Fireball/Afterburner rides and the Move-It series, presumably as these use the same design.3 points

I think @Richard really nailed it, as did @AlexB in terms of land use currently. Particularly with Clark Kirby now at the helm, there's a big whiff of the John Menzies era of Village parks again, where long term vision, investment and focus on guest experience, and look, let's be honest here, doing the right thing has trumped maximising shareholder return at the detriment of what the brand stands for. And that's important, because with the right top level people having enough exerciseable power means money spent on things that may not realise a tangible or direct ROI are upheld. Think steam trains instead of diesel trains and you're in the right headspace. Sure, the diesel might be cheaper overall, but the steam trains create this intangible value to everyday guest experiences. The smell, the movement, the history, the immersion into a different world... these are all things that don't mean anything on a shareholder spreadsheet. However, something so intangible creates such a tremendously powerful impact on guest experience, and hey, let's not forget Dreamworld's brand was built on just this. Barbershop quarter didn't create a tangible ROI, but they were amazing. The horses clip-clopping through Main Street pulling a cart? The IMAX experience? The overload of shows & entertainment? All expensive, and all add up to being greater than the sum of the parts. To be frank, i'm not about picking Ardent or Ariadne or any other parent company, and for all the junk Ardent has copped, let's not forget that for the period the park was closed they supported the Dreamworld team very, very well, so for me, so long as who-ever it is treats one of the country's most iconic brands with the respect it deserves and ultimately, invest in enriching the brand as much as Village are with their brands, i'm happy. Buuuuuuuuut mayyyybe selling the land that's a link to the new Westfield shopping centre and the Coomera Train station isn't the wisest move. If I was as lucky as Clark Kirby and inherited a bunch of parks, except instead of Village it was Dreamworld, here's what i'd do: Get on the phone to Westfield. Start the conversation about a long term vision of developing a Universal city walk of sorts between Coomera Train Station, the new Westfield and the Big Brother house. Get onto the phone to who-ever has the Big Brother house land. Enroll them in the idea of the city walk. Get on the phone to Hilton, Sheraton etc. etc. about building a hotel in the citywalk. Get Dreamworld back to the 1980's vision John Longhurst had. Update, rennovate & innovate the theming from Mine Ride through to Rocky Hollow and Blue Lagoon. New rides, attractions, bars, food, retail. Develop a new entrance where Blue Lagoon is. Build a new steam train station there too for citywalk guests. Make the space amazing again. Build an RMC. Click "select all" on the Zamperla family rides page and just make it a good space full of kinetic energy. Quieten Tower of Terror. Make it work better. Remove most of the tunnel. Move Motocoaster anywhere else. Don't care. Needs to be moved. Develop ABC Kids World into something world class with the land that Motocoaster sat in. Tone down the fading pastels. Add more trees in, make it intimate. Add more food & bev. Make it a lovely area full of nice surprises. I'd go on but I think i've droned on about plans elsewhere. Point is, Dreamworld's a global brand, let's treat it as such.2 points

Even facebook allows a thumbs down though. I think given more options to react, there would be a lot less 'thumbs down' used. Failing that - i'd like to see this one (the tag is : wacko : ) which would probably suit some perfectly.2 points

Red thing looks to be for transporting of the train segments to and from the shipping containers -> maintenance bay. Or as a demonstration stand for whatever the 'public train assembly' entails. Not a missing support. It's designed like that. If pieces were to be connected to that one there would be a place for bolts, instead, it's just flat - much like the ends of the Non-Inverted Loop supports. (those at the top) Thanks for the updates!1 point

Yeah here's how the Kool-Aid goes: if someone heaps unnecessary praise on anything that doesn't warrant it, be it on a park, an attraction, a fellow member or even a website. For example, if someone posts a review about SW Carnivale saying how great and immersive an experience it is despite it being unanimously average at best, one may appropriately react with the Kool Aid button. Would just remind everyone not to use it to mock anyone who says something positive.1 point

You mean to tell me you've never thought someone on here was drinking the kool-aid the parks provide before posting?1 point

The lift hill? I'd guess around 30-35˚, not too steep.1 point

I'm sorry @AlexB but I'm not giving anybody a love hart. I have a reputation to uphold. Oh no!1 point

Aren't the people that are thrown out coming from the broken seat? To me it looks like the woman was thrown from the broken seat, landed on the laps of the people opposite then bounced off and fell.1 point

In the raw video, it is fairly clear to see that the seating structure at the end of the lowest arm collects the lip of the floor (the point at which the floor lowers down) as it swings through. I'm not sure how that is possible unless there was some sort of drop or lowering of the entire arm during that swing, as I imagine that the lip/joining point could not have moved between swings. Even if the floor had somehow reset to its loading position, (Which doesn't look the case from the footage) I imagine the result would have been that the passengers legs would have collected the floor on the swing, as opposed to the physical arm itself1 point
-
Does the floor lower and stay lowered? Did it in this instance? Like everyone I don't know what happened, there was speculation that's what it was floating around, all I was getting at is that regardless of what it ends up being it'll be interesting. I don't intend for my post to be stand up in court ay.1 point

I'm sure it probably won't be needed, but if it is they will of course pay a premium. My issue is more they're selling off an asset thats currently giving the business value. A smaller land holding means reduced assets the business has and reduced value to the business as a whole. Reinvesting it into the park will go someways to improving the value of the park itself, but if they put it into immaterial/quickly depreciating things like renovating existing buildings (painting/fitout) and to an extent rides etc, then it's not going to realize anywhere near the value the land currently has.1 point

News is coming out from the Ohio state fair, where a 'claw' style ride has 'malfunctioned' injuring several and apparently killing at least one. http://www.9news.com.au/world/2017/07/27/11/46/ohio-state-fair-amusement-ride-one-dead-several-injured0 points

General comments about reactions: Still toying with the exact ones we'll end up locking in. No reason for both an upvote and a like... but I think we'll switch out the heart for a thumbs up. I think a "wow" makes sense @Santa07. I'll see if one exists that matches the style of the default ones. Kool-Aid... it'll stay if people use it correctly. Not seeing much evidence of that in here. @Reanimated35: Pagination, top menu colours, Unread Content/Mark Site Read bar Yep... need to fix these colours. For some reason they're not ones that can be edited in the theme editing system (most can be) so it'll require a manual CSS overwrite. Same with padding out the Unread Content link bar. Reaction count on profile page Not sure why they decided to show the total count for reactions that have a zero value. I'd hope that Invision fix that bug in the software in a future update. Admin colours Wanted to give Parkz Crew more differentiation given that the bold red banner had to go. Not sure whether admin should be red and Parkz Crew something else a bit bold or vice versa. Blue header bar We'll probably keep this blue until it changes on the main site as well... which I'm not sure will happen anytime soon (i.e. until we do a full redesign, which isn't on the cards just yet). @themagician: Overlapping text Yeah noticed this... hopefully we'll find an easy fix for it soon. @Santa07: No more self reactions... that was just enabled temporarily while I was testing a few things.0 points

Originally, I was against the downvote system but now I love it. Removing it totally is soft and if it needed to be removed, I would have changed it to thumbs down.0 points

Fire Ball manufacturer orders rides be shut down worldwide The ride's Dutch manufacturer told operators of the same attraction at fairs and festivals around the world to stop using it until more is learned about what caused the malfunction. Fire Ball manufacturer orders rides be shut down worldwide. ABC News reports during Action News at 4 p.m. on July 27, 2017.
