  1. Grabbed a coffee and went to my car to leave - parked near the fence. Just as I was loading up, I hear a 2 second horn blast. Yep, they cycled Rivals! Got a video but it's just the same as others already in this thread. Guess the horn is to warn workers onsite. EDIT / 3rd cycle as I type!

  2. So after the discussions in this thread and some chats on and off forums, I took on everyone's feedback and decided that a new logo wouldn't hurt. It was made years ago and admittedly I have zero artistic talent and while that hasn't improved much at all, I did really like the logo that Ben designed and posted in here. So, with that said I want to say a public thank you to @Slick, @Gazza and the others off-forum who provided feedback and suggestions on this and this is what I plan to use going forward, which seems to look much better/more professional than the old one.

  3. It doesn't read well. I would view that as 'Rivals Hypercoaster' Nup - I'm calling it - the current version put out by the parks is the most appropriate. the "Shield" isn't part of the name, just a logo. I'm going to start a list of all the ridiculously miniscule things we've managed to discuss ad nauseum during construction... The grass growing Why they left the end caps on \ took them off the footings Whether its footing or footer The colour pink \ purple \ magenta \ fuschia \ other The price of lights in china Whether it is technically a hypercoaster based on metric or imperial When someone's rendering 'spot on' isn't actually 'spot on' What the four queue lanes are for Whether they could run 3 trains Whether they'll ever run more than 1 train Where is the guy in the park selling the dippin dots? 4. Is there any obvious indication a test cycle is imminent? By that I mean Mack staff moving around, other on-site work stoppage etc. Hoping to catch Rivals running today. Some better pics of the wavy hair structure: How many test cycles so far? There's already wheel marks on the paint: Queue area proceeding nicely: (above 2 pics shot thru fence at GL/JL)

  5. From a technical perspective I have no idea what either of you are talking about... my electronics prowess extends to knowing which hole in my tv I plug the blu-ray player into... All I know is the lights are white, it would be cool if they'd have the ability to change that on occasion, but for whatever reason (cost, shortsightedness or plain lack of interest) it didn't happen. The End.

  6. The above photos were from the first run, then my vids are from runs 2 and 4 (out of 5 that I saw).

  7. Assuming the weather holds out (storm Thursday, showers on the weekend?), I can't see why a soft opening in the middle of September couldn't happen. One of my vids of this thing in action is being processed in YouTube atm. Link shortly. I really wished FTTP NBN was on in my suburb!

  10. Yeah - having now had the opportunity to read one of the articles on this - I take issue with this: Yes, a high risk work licence is requried to operate a forklift, because you are the person responsible for determining whether a load (which could be ANYTHING) is safely and properly secured, and whether it is safe to lift, travel with etc. You're also free to drive anywhere with the thing, and you could potentially slam into building pylons and supports, collapsing entire buildings. I've seen heaps of photos of forklifts lifting other devices (like a cherry picker \ man lift) to achieve more height to reach something and a whole bunch of other 'what the' moments. Contrast this to a ride, where a typical operator is required to ensure guests are restrained according to manufacturer's recommendations (and in many cases, the ride system will not allow a dispatch until they are), and they then press 'dispatch' or similar. Sure - more complex rides may need a bit more than that - but really - check seat belt, press green button is hardly comparable to that of a forklift operator.

  11. It's always a worry when you get reports and Governments talking like this because you end up with regulation for the sake of having regulation. When you've got a report asking why you need a ticket to operate a forklift but not an amusement ride then you've clearly got decision makers asking the wrong questions. Who the fuck cares if you need a ticket to operate a forklift? The actual question is whether there's some level of critical training that operators are not getting that we need a licensing system to be able to track compliance with. If so, what is that critical training? We're not talking about mistakes here (they will happen, and the method of work should explicitly allow for this) - we are talking about a system of putting people in charge of machinery that they are missing critical information to allow the safe use of.

  12. Realistic in the fact that the 15th of September is a date? Yes. Realistic in the fact that he's a reliable source of information? No.

  14. Yeah sounds like an annoying quirk of the software more than anything @Reanimated35. @diesal11... we're a bit hesitant to include too many negative reactions because in the past it devolved into pettiness. I see room for maybe one or two more reactions but we shouldn't offer too many. At the end of the day it should be about posting a reply to keep the discussion going.

  15. Click Frenzy is having a travel centric sale for the next 24 hours. Dreamworld has a 3 day park hopper ticket on sale at 50% off. https://www.clickfrenzy.com.au/outgoing/23163.html

  16. PCL posted a video from a test run this afternoon & I must say it looks a lot faster in this video, especially coming over that airtime hill! Not sure why it looks faster, maybe it is the angle the video was taken from but it definitely looks faster to me.

  20. Random things from today's MW visit: - You can see the top of Rivals' lift hill as you come out from the Hope Island underpass on the M1 👍 - The MRT queue video isn't playing on Superman. @Slick you got anything in the pipeline? 🤔 😜 - RideOp at Scooby had solid belief that the front half would pretty much look the same as it used to. Yeah yeah I know, they're just a RideOp and not Graham Burke. - I rode Arkham for the first time in many years - and its still a violently rough ride. I'd hate to have ridden it back when the Parkz regulars were complaining! - The acceleration of Superman is still breathtaking, and will never not be. - These skylines. Seriously. - Just rode SDSC for the first time in its current state. Interesting as a layout learning experience, but sorely needing theming. Personally I'd like to see the theming extended all the way to the turntable.

  21. I don't see the issue. Nobody says "WB Warner Bros." Is this DC DC Comics? Logo Shield is clearly not part of the name. This thread got broken off from the construction thread due to the divergence of topic - and here we are again!

  22. I think a common misconception is that there is a giant project budget and so much money kicking around to throw 'an extra few thousand' at things. In reality these projects are budgeted to the cent (yes there's contingency however that is for when bad things happen) and every cent is scrutinized. If you think about something as insignificant as lights on a fence blowing out by 20 thousand dollars, imagine the big important stuff. Suddenly your 30 million dollar ride costs 40.

  23. There's 2 flatbed semi trailers being unloaded atm, both with steel framework, visually different from the ride's supports. I can't make out Joker on either of them. Possibly for queue, theming or the bridge ? Its Logan Steel doing the job here. FruitPhone only today.. I wonder if Andrew could grab me one of the few dozen empty 'Mack' crates? 😜 I jest, but MW if you're reading this, fans would love these to be given away. [edit - addition] 3 trailer loads and counting. Occasional pieces looked right to affix to the mounting points at the top of the hill. Polite conversation with a guy onsite reveals it is Joker! No other pics will help as it's just grey angular steelwork at this point. Assembly over the next few days (lighting etc to go in too).

  25. Yes, but increased government regulation and oversight - sometimes tends to go too far in one direction over an abundance of caution. Like - say they have to strip it down to component level, but the inspector must PHYSICALLY see the parts laid out in the maintenance bay as proof it was stripped down completely - and then the regular guy is sick that week, so it gets postponed until next week when the other guy is on, but he gets flat tyre on the way there, so they have to fly in an inspector from another region, but it takes 4 days to organise because they couldn't get him a hotel room consummate with his paygrade, and by then the sick guy is well, but he's 3 weeks behind, so he drops in after work to sign it off, but the maintenance guys left at 3 and someone took the key to the maintenance bay home, so nobody can open it up for him and... What? It's government, and it's regulation. Don't think for a moment that everything I said above couldn't happen - it probably already has.

  26. I'm not worried because I'm very confident the parks already do this stuff. The review was triggered by the DW incident but kids operating rides, rides NOT getting stripped down and not having mandate major inspections is not what happens at DW or MW. The Fake News are throwing images of DW at us because they don’t know what they are talking about.

  29. Yeah, that's a more complete analysis for the entire train. I was lazy and just compared what would happen if you switched the direction you were facing in the same row. Another interesting thing to think about is how there is a difference between sitting on the left or right seats. This is especially noticeable in coasters with 4 (or more) abreast seating, where the seats at the extremities have to move a longer distance than the seats in the middle for the same twist. If you compare the leftmost seat to the rightmost seat on the same coaster, you'll get different forces for different elements depending on their shaping and which way the track is twisting. So when trying to work out what the best seat is on a coaster, not only should you compare which row you are in, but also which seat you are in on that row. As always, it comes down to opinion. Some people love being whipped through elements, some people love it to be graceful. Always gives you something to argue about for ages with strangers on the internet.

  30. Every time someone mentions this it kinda gets on my nerves. Would you not put the logo on something that was branded? The Ride itself is called "DC Rivals Hypercoaster". The DC Logo isn't there to be added as an additional title. It's there because that's is what the DC brand logo is. They wouldn't call the ride DC Rivals and then not put the DC logo with it. It's trademark.

  31. Yup agree. Rivals should absolutely be a $20 per ride single use fastrack addition only available for purchase with the Unlimited Pass and max of one per guest per day. Sorry my agree comment was in reference to Santa, MickeyD got in there before me.

  32. Not quite. G-forces are a product of speed and directional change, i.e. the track curving. All rows of seats are travelling the same speed at any given moment, but they will be on different sections of track and as such experience different forces. The easiest example to think of is heading over the top of a lift hill. While the front rows will creep gently into first drop experiencing essentially no forces, the back row is often whipped over with a burst of negative g's.

  33. I'm lucky to live 10 minutes away from the park & have it be my home park whilst it's steadily gaining a decent ride line-up. I can only imagine how good it would be having the GC parks as home parks.
