I personally think having a good joker head within the loop would've over done it. The one at the top of the lift hill is perfect, any more than that would make it seem like it was a joker coaster, which it isn't really. And any coasters I've seen with theming throughout the track (particularly the some of the coasters at SixFlags) look tacky. Much prefer just vegetation as they are doing now2 points

Yeah - having now had the opportunity to read one of the articles on this - I take issue with this: Yes, a high risk work licence is requried to operate a forklift, because you are the person responsible for determining whether a load (which could be ANYTHING) is safely and properly secured, and whether it is safe to lift, travel with etc. You're also free to drive anywhere with the thing, and you could potentially slam into building pylons and supports, collapsing entire buildings. I've seen heaps of photos of forklifts lifting other devices (like a cherry picker \ man lift) to achieve more height to reach something and a whole bunch of other 'what the' moments. Contrast this to a ride, where a typical operator is required to ensure guests are restrained according to manufacturer's recommendations (and in many cases, the ride system will not allow a dispatch until they are), and they then press 'dispatch' or similar. Sure - more complex rides may need a bit more than that - but really - check seat belt, press green button is hardly comparable to that of a forklift operator.2 points

It's always a worry when you get reports and Governments talking like this because you end up with regulation for the sake of having regulation. When you've got a report asking why you need a ticket to operate a forklift but not an amusement ride then you've clearly got decision makers asking the wrong questions. Who the fuck cares if you need a ticket to operate a forklift? The actual question is whether there's some level of critical training that operators are not getting that we need a licensing system to be able to track compliance with. If so, what is that critical training? We're not talking about mistakes here (they will happen, and the method of work should explicitly allow for this) - we are talking about a system of putting people in charge of machinery that they are missing critical information to allow the safe use of.2 points

Anything that distracts from the enormity and signature element that is the non-inverting loop, is a detraction.1 point

Really extatic at the progress of construction of this beast. I need to book a holiday to GC asap!! i really love the loop, though am thinking that they have missed an opportunity here regarding theming. With the big gaping hole, I think it would of been awesome for them to somehow bolt on a big giant jokers head here... maybe one that spins clock and counter-clockwise, emphasizing the craziness of the joker. I think this would give it a similar affect as the sun (previously mickeys head) does on California screaming at Disneyland. It would enhance photo ops of the coaster.. Imagine seeing that driving by movie world during day or lit up at night!1 point

Grabbed a coffee and went to my car to leave - parked near the fence. Just as I was loading up, I hear a 2 second horn blast. Yep, they cycled Rivals! Got a video but it's just the same as others already in this thread. Guess the horn is to warn workers onsite. EDIT / 3rd cycle as I type!1 point

It doesn't read well. I would view that as 'Rivals Hypercoaster' Nup - I'm calling it - the current version put out by the parks is the most appropriate. the "Shield" isn't part of the name, just a logo. I'm going to start a list of all the ridiculously miniscule things we've managed to discuss ad nauseum during construction... The grass growing Why they left the end caps on \ took them off the footings Whether its footing or footer The colour pink \ purple \ magenta \ fuschia \ other The price of lights in china Whether it is technically a hypercoaster based on metric or imperial When someone's rendering 'spot on' isn't actually 'spot on' What the four queue lanes are for Whether they could run 3 trains Whether they'll ever run more than 1 train Where is the guy in the park selling the dippin dots? Kool-Aid Arethesebitsforthecoasternothey'renotthey'refortopgolfohshitiforgottheywereevenbuildingthat!yeahmateitseasytoforgetaboutthismultimilliondollarfacilitywhenthey'rebuildingsuchanawesomecoasternextdoorhashtagwherearethetopgolfpics? is it higher than batwing? how high is batwing? what shade of purple is that? it isn't purple yes it is scooby is down for maintenance wrong topic dickhead where will the mazes go this year wrong topic dickhead will it be open for fright nights? When will it open? Is the TPSN opening date reliable? Pink the joker face should be animated the second train should face backwards is it still technically a loop? is it still technically an inversion? Is ToT a coaster? Worlds smallest microphone ...<have fun - insert your own>1 point

Sight lines are completely different now - and I like it. The pano above from the fountain, and this pic below, outside of SDSC. Dunno if it was intentional, but seeing tops of GL/Rivals/Superman/Batwing together certainly adds excitement.1 point

Random things from today's MW visit: - You can see the top of Rivals' lift hill as you come out from the Hope Island underpass on the M1 👍 - The MRT queue video isn't playing on Superman. @Slick you got anything in the pipeline? 🤔 😜 - RideOp at Scooby had solid belief that the front half would pretty much look the same as it used to. Yeah yeah I know, they're just a RideOp and not Graham Burke. - I rode Arkham for the first time in many years - and its still a violently rough ride. I'd hate to have ridden it back when the Parkz regulars were complaining! - The acceleration of Superman is still breathtaking, and will never not be. - These skylines. Seriously. - Just rode SDSC for the first time in its current state. Interesting as a layout learning experience, but sorely needing theming. Personally I'd like to see the theming extended all the way to the turntable.1 point

Is there any obvious indication a test cycle is imminent? By that I mean Mack staff moving around, other on-site work stoppage etc. Hoping to catch Rivals running today. Some better pics of the wavy hair structure: How many test cycles so far? There's already wheel marks on the paint: Queue area proceeding nicely: (above 2 pics shot thru fence at GL/JL)1 point

Yeah sounds like an annoying quirk of the software more than anything @Reanimated35. @diesal11... we're a bit hesitant to include too many negative reactions because in the past it devolved into pettiness. I see room for maybe one or two more reactions but we shouldn't offer too many. At the end of the day it should be about posting a reply to keep the discussion going.1 point

Gotta say the park is looking so great from inside and out with these various coasters towering over things, and it's not even at full height yet. Goes to show that if you invest, great things happen!0 points

The Gold Coast Snow Park has currently put on hold their Gavan/Mudgeeraba/???????? but have decided to proceed on a smaller version in Surfers Paradise. The new location has a slab down but no council approval. GCSP want to have it up and running by summer. The site location is a couple of blocks from the Sling Shot & Vomatron. Gold Coast Snow Park lodged a town planing application on the 22/08/2018 The applicant wishes to utilise approximately 3,000m2 of the subject site for the development of a mini snow park and arrow tag tourist attraction. The purpose of the mini snow park is to showcase a future Snow Park that is proposed to be located on a separate location on the Gold Coast. The snow park component of the Tourist Attraction use is to include go - karts, tub by slide, tubby jump and free style test area. Although noted as a ‘snow park’, there is no snow to be used, but instead will use an artificial matting supplied by ‘Nevaplast’. The material used imitates the experience of skiing and snowboarding in the snow. The go-karts will be located on an area of 20m x 18.5m, which will sit on a concrete base to allow for the operation of the go-karts. The go - karts will be battery operated with the battery stored within the storage container that is located south from the attraction. The go-karts will operate on the ‘Nevaplast’ material. It should be noted that as these are battery operated, they are extremely quiet. Immediately to the east of the go-kart area is the tubby jump, tubby slide and free style test area. The free style test area and the tummy jump will lead onto the airbag that is located at the end of the attraction. These attractions will be constructed from a lightweight material elevated on scaffolding to achieve the height. The tubby slide and free style test area will have a height of 6m and the tubby jump will be 12m in height. In order to improve aesthetics, the applicant is to cover the scaffolding that fronts Ocean Avenue with mesh advertising devices. Lastly, 1m east of the tubby slide is the arrow tag attraction. The attraction is to cover an area of 20m x 30m, and will operate just on the ground within a confined area and will include inflatable obstacles that participants can ‘hide’ behind. The arrow tag is similar to ‘skirmish’ but operated with specialist bow and arrows. To protect the users of the mini snow park, the arrow tag is proposed to have a 6m high fence made of netting. After the operational hours have ceased for the day, the airbags associated with the mini snow park and arrow tag will be deflated. The food and drink outlet will be selling pre-packaged food for users of the tourist facility. The applicant is not proposing any food preparation on site. The site will be accessed via Surfers Paradise Blvd, Ocean Avenue and Pandanus Avenue. Old Promo Video before the move to Surfers Paradise.0 points
