The ride was signed off by WorkSafe Victoria and was cleared to run, there was no issues with the restraints. What that girl was saying in her post and on the news was a complete joke. I worked on the Sky Walker for 6 years and there was never any issues with restraints. There are also secondary locks in place so that if the main restraint locking system failed, the secondary would keep it in place. The harnesses do not actually click, the knife passes through the lock and is locked with the pneumatic system behind the seats, a secondary lock also passes through the knife so that if the pneumatic system failed, the secondary keeps the knife in place). The dissapointing outcome of this situation was that some idiot on social media (yes, she made up some ridiculous story, saying that her shoulders came completely out of the restraint - this is impossible, if anyone has ridden a KMG TANGO, you would know that those restraints are very restricted and don't give the rider much freedom to move) made a ridiculous claim, and instead of the RASV getting behind the showmen and their safety measures, they made the situation worse by listening to these claims and keeping the ride closed. The fact that WorkSafe cleared the ride with no faults, just shows that this story was ridiculous. Are we in a society today that anyone can make a comment on social media and an attraction could be closed? This could happen on any of our theme park rides also. It's frustrating to say the least. Other than this incident, the show was a success and we had a great year on The Beast. Wonderful to see people really enjoying the ride.5 points

In that case @AlexB why not enclose the entire ride for a world first?1 point

Except when there's a precedent. I don't disagree with you @pin142, however you can't fault a person purely based on the word 'tour' when the previous year's 'thing also called a tour' permitted "free time" throughout the night.1 point

You booked something called a "tour" but are surprised when you get there to find it is a "tour". I am sorry @Reanimated35 but you're on your own with this one. I know if I booked a tour I wouldn't expect there to be time to do my own thing during the period it is scheduled to run.1 point

On the other hand though if they did do that you wouldn't be able to see the coaster and train as well and the queue would be more boring #cantwin1 point

Rivals is, I think, an exception to the rule, and perhaps (hopefully) a changing of the guard with regards to the view on what they charge for. I understand that there were several new designs implemented at Rivals we haven't seen in our parks previously, and i'm thankful to the person who brought them to our shores. Rivals is, as we know, well designed and managed without the need for random upcharges (I exclude fast track as it applies to many rides, although other parks can offer this for free to everyone, and I exclude backwards as it is a capacity limited option that has to be charged, and while technically reducing regular guest capacity by 4 per train, isn't something to complain about as a charge). When referring only and specifically to Rivals, you are correct - not a fair statement. When you consider the park (or better yet, VRTP as a whole) they've done their very best to monetise every experience possible. The ongoing gouging at Superman remains. They attempted it with Green Lantern but later backed off. We've talked ad nauseum about overseas parks offering free lockers so I won't re-raise the debate. Even the Sea World "Gate-Gate" was a clear attempt to funnel crowds through a choked part of the park, simply because it lead everyone past shops, food, drink and skill games. Even UTT and Hyped just struck a chord for me - here, buy the ULTIMATE tour... wait - now that you've bought it, buy the EVEN MORE THAN ULTIMATE upgrade! (especially as it seemed it was an afterthought). I'm not against pay for play experiences, as long as these are in the minority and additional (and value for the person buying it), and not of too much negative impact to the guest that just paid $100 to get in, expecting (most) things to be included in their ticket price, but these days it seems that after getting in the gate, the first few things that hit you are 'now that you're in, pay extra to do more', as opposed to 'this way to our awesome rides that speak for themselves, and are the main reason you're here'.1 point

The accident report, whilst compiled by experts, is still just 'opinion' of those experts. It is no way is a legal finding of negligence or recklessness (or any other legal term of fault) and the only way there can be is if it is taken to court and they are found liable \ guilty. The fact that they have withheld the report is probably because they are now seeking legal opinion on whether it is a viable case to take to court - so even at this stage, nobody is sure, and it may very well be the case that the legal opinion sought returns to state that the case is not worth pursuing... so let's calm down with the sky falling shit for now, hey?1 point

I'm still guessing that it was quite a freak accident, which in hindsight is easily possible to now see the reasons for. As @Levithian said, "Procedures or operations too that fostered an environment where something like this could happen" is the most likely way to classify this. This still doesn't mean that nobody should be held accountable, it's just unfortunately understandable as to why such a unique incident would slip through the assumedly minuscule cracks of safety procedures and standards during the design and construction process. I'd bet my parents' house without their knowledge on such an incident never occurring again on any rapids ride with a conveyor lift thanks to this one incident.1 point

Having used Fast Track on Rivals at least three or four times over the weekend I can safely say paying for Fast Track just to get that smug feeling you get walking past an hour long queue on one of the busiest days is worth it by itself.1 point

I think this is a case where people need to stop criticising the media for reporting facts. We all know they can be shocking a lot of the time with sensationalised reporting of non-incidents, but they don't have to sensationalise this incident, and they don't. 4 people died and we're lucky it wasn't 2 more. You can't just blindly defend Dreamworld as a lover of parks, if they're found to be guilty through a proper process then I have no qualms supporting legal action against them.1 point

Can we close this thread? Soft open ended on the 16th when the ride officially opened.0 points

you could always have the track included in the enclosure from the brake run to the lift hill... #jussayin - you could also have then put in an extra block past the station, allowing pre-show (and faster operations \ cycles \ additional trains). its just wishful thinking. I'm not upset at all that they didn't do this at all - my original comment in this vein was more tongue in cheek, but with the money, it would have been possible. (it would have been a complete waste, but it would have been possible).0 points

Saw the one over the test seat on saturday, the others were being constructed in the maintenance driveway behind the wall. much nicer than a triangular shade sail held up on poles. the 'artsy' design of them is cool, but (i haven't seen them all installed yet) i tend to think that the rounded nature is going to leave gaping holes where guests are going to be punished by the sun. Not really much you can do unless you fully enclose, air condition and immersively theme the queue... #waitwhat0 points

I like how for Wipeout they changed the original closing date to October 1 so that it seems like it hasn't been closed most of the year I really hope they get it open in time for the Summer holidays, along with all the other rides. They haven't had every ride in operation at once since the park closed last year. It would be great to see.0 points

Seriously? you guys are fuckin sheltered. Most overseas parks would charge within this ballpark. This is the best rollercoaster Australia has ever seen. The queues for this ride are going to be significant for some time, especially during peak periods. Summer is going to be just plain stupid, and fright nights is also likely to be ridiculously long. Sure, it's more expensive than Backwards seating, but backwards seating has specific return times, and is limited to two seats, so if they sell a crap load of them, you're going to be waiting a while (one only has to look at the length of the queue for it to know it could take a while if it is only 2 seats per cycle). Fast track has the option of 20 seats - 10 times as many as backwards - so if you want to Ride. It. Now. or if you aren't a fan of going backwards, then this is the option for you. Personally I don't like the direction Village is going - where a park that used to be 'all rides, shows and attractions are included in your admission' to a situation where 'our ultimate tour isn't actually the ultimate, and you'll have to pay extra' upcharge on an upcharge. I like that they're offering a VIP experience - but I find it disgusting that they'd then come out with an additional purchase on top of something they've already referred to as being the best on offer. If they were planning the 'hyped' tour, they should have advertised this in the first place. But I digress - and back to rivals. To an extent I expected them to monetise as much as possible surrounding Rivals. I'm honestly very surprised we don't have fast video yet, but I'm sure they'll do it if they can (and i'll remember that it wasn't online at launch for doomsday either), but for a ride that has cost around 3 times as much as any other new attraction in over a decade - if upcharging for special perks helps them clear the debt and start planning their next major attraction (and they keep installing Quality attractions (if not the most expensive ones)), then i'm all for it, and i'll pay for the experience as time and money permits.0 points
