  1. It is the Rocky Hollow Log Ride... Let's break it down: Is it Rocky? Well - not really. Theres a few rocks around though. Plus plenty of places have names that really don't relate to what you might find - for example - Robe isn't famous for Robes. Is it a Hollow? Well in this context, it means a valley - and it is in fact downhill from main street - and on the other side, it does go back up, so yes, I'm going to say it firmly meets the 'hollow' criteria. Is it a log ride? Well - mostly. You do ride in logs. It's just that those logs now have additional framework attached to them. All in all - i'd say it fits it's name very well. Log rides are usually themed around sawmills and such, since sawmills used to float logs down a river to get them to the mill, so with the added sawmill signage and machinery... it's quite a pleasantly fitting theme. (ETA: in the resdesign, since they're likely to keep both Buzzsaw and RHLR, they really need to try and tie both of these together. If Sea World can change the flume channel for Vikings - Dreamworld should be able to do so for RHLR to bring it closer to Buzz.) It's no Splash Mountain, nor does it try to be - but to say there is no theme is pretty shortsighted.

  2. Here is a few photos of the attraction in construction phase that I took on my visit to Dreamworld today. This ride has gone up very quickly, and appears to be not that far away from opening. There is some theming and a nice shade cover that has been built around the ride too: The ride was covered up with this fence. It fits the area nicely but looks kind of cheap considering how I can easily see over the fencing:

  3. Any chance we could rename this topic to "New Spinning Coaster for Luna Park Sydney"? @Richard The Maurer Sohne SC2000 differs greatly from a standard Mack wild mouse, and the current classic wooden mouse. I have ridden Crush's Coaster at the Walt Disney Studios Park (Disneyland Paris). Which is the SC2000 model, with an extended pre lift hill dark ride section and different track work for the station. This layout actually delivers decent forces, drops and banked turns. It hardly has any hairpin turns. It's a fun ride that is suitable for all ages. Smooth as well.

  4. There is still a seperate load and unload platform, that video was just taken at a time of day when there was just the one platform being used.

  5. Looks like Inferno is back to itself, apparently the tower top is back on the ground and its listed as closed for un scheduled maintenance on their website. Hopefully it comes back soon and can last one more year till MI4 comes.

  6. It had been a very long time since I had visited Aussie World (20+ years!) so I decided to check out their Ride the Night event last night. In the way of rides, I knew it couldn’t compete with anything on the GC, but there were a couple of good attractions on offer. Gates opened at 5:45pm and I took that opportunity to walk around the park until the rides started at 6pm. I was surprised at how colourful the park was. Yes I’d seen their advertising and web-site but the park looked - and felt - really fresh and vibrant. It also still had some of that ‘carnival/funfair’ feel as there was different music playing at every turn - though the fact there was a local radio station set up there for the night might also have something to do with it. From 6pm I took on the Redback, Bug Run (counts as a coaster right?), Mayhem Maze, Space Shaker, The Wasp, Voyage Simulator, Mozzie Musta and Professor Bogglesworth’s Illusionarium. Dark Rebel and Ballroom Blitz were closed and they had to close The Plunge as it stopped while going up the lift hill and they had to evacuate the riders off of it. The Ferris Wheel ended up closing early too because of the storm. The staff all came across friendly and laid-back - although the ride operators seemed very young. There was some live entertainment during the night - a dj, dancing, fire twirling, plus fireworks at 9pm. There were a couple of staff members roving the park offering glow-in-the-dark body paint as well as one covered in glow-in-the-dark wrist bands that he gave out to guests during the night. Highlights of the night for me were the Illusionarium as well as the Mayhem Maze. The only way I can describe the Illusionarium is a maze of optical illusions and it was really good and a decent length. The Mayhem Maze was also surprisingly good in that the actors gave good frights!! If it was longer, it could give anything at MW’s Fright Nights a run for its money (IMO). Overall, what the park delivered on the night (and for a mere $25.50) it smashed my expectations. Not a park I could spend a lot of time in but perhaps that will change with what Aussie World has in plan for its future.

  7. Just got this email from Dreamworld. Can you see what's wrong here? (Besides telling me that my pass needs renewing when it expires 24th December 2018.)
