  2. Great find!! This appears to relate to a DA that was approved in 2005 for construction of a 5 cinema complex that would replace the existing Admin Building. This proposal is dated 12th January 2018, is for an amendment of this idea for- wait for it- a "Flying Theatre" attraction The DA acknowledges that : Pretty sure that if this goes ahead, then the space where the Flying Saucer was and where the Flying Carousel is slated to be installed, will be consumed by this project. I will definitely be seeking clarification on this point!! Once again great find and very positive signs for Luna Park!

  4. So at the park today with @ABYSS and noticed a few things: Sprinklers have been added to the Rampage queue which was something they were asked to do last week. Inferno tower is back up and should be opening in the coming days. Goliath merchandise Will be available next season. More crow statues have been added to Goliath area.

  5. I never said that grassed areas are a waste of space, just that they can be done better if you want to call it a theme park. In terms of guests not burning their feet though, not using bitumen is a good start.

  6. Idk what to call AW, but here's wat I think of the grass. It helps like bloody crazy any day 30^c+. Everyone at AW walks around barefoot (you can't wear shoes on a slide etc). If I wanna go from the abyss to Kahuna, I can do so barefoot without getting 3rd degree foot burns. And where there isn't grass, like the walk up to inferno/Kraken, there is shade. Most families don't go on water attractions, put on shoes dry, take off shoes (process repeats). It's branded as an all round park, so these 'unthemed wastes of picnic space' is intelligent, and so they don't get sued (unless your an upcoming talent being an idiot on kraken🙃)

  7. It was also good to see 4 trains running in off peak on Abyss and all shops open until closing. Along with the minor changes made to develop the customer experience. Also Goliath has on ride photos and all the Dragons Kingdom Characters where out today for photos. It's great to see that you can still buy food after 5pm.

  8. If you are referring to the mist in the queue area ... I’m pretty sure, forever. It isn’t always turned on, but it does add the mood as you walk through the queue

  9. Good post, sums up my opinion well. It's sort of on the cusp of being a theme park, but the sparseness of some parts stop it from fully getting there. I think its fine to have the big lawns etc for picnics, but they sort of need a bit more to unify it, and the structures can't just be pool fences and council type shade structures. To me, a theme park is something that takes you away from the here and now, and when i was there, there's not quite enough to disguise the "Perth aridness" If you wanted to fix that, the lawn itself needs to become its own semi secluded precinct, with a few structures in there that unify it...Heck you could even theme the area as an "aussie bush retreat" . Then the fringes of the area get landscaped to separate it off. The green area is more tiki themed shelters, and a layer of tropical gardens, fading into wild western at the western end. The purple zones would be more of a classic main entry statement for the park. Do something with the paving here to make a distinc first impression. The red zone would be gardens to segue into the Abyss/Rampage/Goliath area. (And by the way, that area needs to be given a proper name....Eg "The Mythical Way" or "Land of Legends" or whatever)

  10. Seeing that no one has mentioned it, walls are starting to be put up as you leave the station

  11. I reckon AW either need to do an intermediate family coaster (Eg stuff like a Wild Mouse or Family Boomerang) Either that or a high capacity proslide....Im suprised better provision wasn't made at Kraken to have a 2nd ride making use of the belt, which would have cost a shitload. No flat rides pls, we don't need another Aussie World or Dreamworld.

  12. Finally made it up from Sydney this week with lofty expectations and they were most certainly fulfilled! Queue never reached more than about 20 minutes which gave just enough time to recover before riding again. Here are my thoughts... For such a lengthy coaster (by local standards) it manages to pack a real punch right up to the brake run. I have ridden in most parts of the train by now and I would have to say that row 10 is my favourite (best for the first drop). The fall feels a lot longer because of the “pull” from the front of the train. I think Backwards was worth the $10, but it made me feel a little unwell. Lift hill is bloody steep so you end up hanging off the back on the way up. Speaking of the lift hill, it was also very, very quick which is ideal for ride throughput but gives you no time to savour the view. Front seat had a great view until the wind made my eyes water too much. It also just didn’t quite have the same kick as row 10 (in my opinion). Restraints were very nice with no bulky over-the-shoulder contraption. Interestingly, we did see a few larger blokes fail to fit into the seats properly and they had to hop off before the train could depart. Ride ops ran very smoothly with just one train going, with the only delays resulting from the previously mentioned oversized riders. The rotating baskets worked a charm (after realising that my stuff was on the other side and it hadn’t been stolen) and helped move us all away from the train so they could start loading the next set of people on. Backwards seats had varying use throughout the day. Sometimes there would be nobody for 5 runs and then the next 5 would all have backwards riders. It seemed that mostly larger groups were all doing it together so this kind of made sense. Overall I was highly impressed by DC Rivals, and I even bought a stubby holder and the $10 hat (which is actually great value). Movie world is now well and truly getting there as a great park in terms of rides, maybe one more coaster and a few more flats (Huss Giant Frisbee??)

  13. Very excited to see what’s next for AW! Whatever it is I’m sure it will be a strong addition to the park and help out attendance for the 2019/20 season. Cant wait to stalk this thread just like for Abyss, Kraken and Goliath.

  15. Regrading towards if DW needs to build a roller coaster to compete with Rivals.. I personally think that DW going through the family market at the moment is a great idea imo Personally as much some people would like to see some friendly competition between DW and MW with thrills. I don’t want to see DW following MW’s shoes, I would like to see DW be diverse with their offering/attractions as possible than what MW have been in recent years as MW doesn’t appear to be showing strong interest with the family market atm. Sure, people these days are always looking for the biggest thrills but I feel like with the success that Rivals has brought, I think it’s safe to say we don’t really need to see any “major thrill ride” for maybe 5-10 years I personally think the I-Ride theatre will be a success for the park, the concept of it is fantastic and I strongly believe if they continue to build attractions that can appeal to everyone like this then my faith in the park will be skyrocketing through the roof.

  16. I saw this topic a while ago and when I got the chance I took a photo of Expedition Everest’s (Disney’s Animal Kingdom) control panel. Sorry it is not a very good photo.

  17. I don't want to admit it, but I think we may have hit a dead end. I finally worked out how to look at old websites and found the number on the listing for it. The number used to be for Maleny Jumping Castles that don't seem to exist anymore (makes sense that he would have other amusement rides), but now the number belongs to someone with a different name in an aged care facility. I can't find any Facebook page or details for the seller's name either. It's so frustrating because obviously someone knows what happened to it. I hate to think it would be lying in a rusty pile somewhere but probably I need to give up on finding it. Would've been so nice to show my kids something that has so many nice memories attached to it. Thanks for your help anyway!! If you ever find out anything about it, keep me in mind!! 😊
