  1. AlexB, nobody wants to read your essay on "The Misrepresentation of Dreamworld attractions in Theme Park Media". It's not that big of a deal.

  2. (From Disneyandmore) I have to share this!! What a beautiful Park. Shame about the Killer Whale show, which I am sure they would be better off without.🤔 Full article with loads more info, artwork and footage, go to: http://disneyandmore.blogspot.com/2018/09/shanghai-haichang-ocean-park-shanghai.html?m=1 Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, Shanghaî Disneyland First Competitor, Opens on Nov 16! For Shanghaî Disneyland the times when the park could reign without no real competitor is over! On November 16 Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park, will open officially and the new park will be the next major attraction in the city with a trial run starting on Oct 1! The park also include a new themed hotel, which will also open on Nov 16, and will start to accept reservations from Oct 20. Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park was designed by Gary Goddard Entertainment - now Legacy GGE - who won five years ago in front of three others companies proposals, with the blue-sky design below. As a former WDI Imagineer Gary Goddard also designed many E-Tickets attractions for Universal Studios and Legacy GGE team include artists who also worked for WDI, all this to say that even if Shanghai Haichang Ocean Park is not a Disney park it was designed by people who know very well how to create quality theme parks. Below, renderings of the Blue Sky Concept design, first design for the park entrance, and the final design.

  3. So here is a trip update from Adventure World: For a non major ride off-season lots of minor things have happened and due to a very wet winter a lot of painting and installation of shade sails have been delayed and are not quiet finished. Animal Kingdom is closed for renovations Surf Shack and Tiki Bar are closed for renovations Rampage has had all new seats installed to try and make the ride more comfortable. These I have found worse. Black Widow has had a complete new repaint. Which is not finished yet. The flooring and signage needs to be finished. This is due to weather I believe. Inferno gondala has been painted. A themed water fountain was added mid way up the hill to Kraken. New viewing area next to skull rock. More shade added the whole way up the hill. Not a fan of how it looks up the top but it was needed. More picnic benches have been added around the park. Animal area closed. New Viewing area Rocky Rapids was closed on opening day but has soon since re-opened. The view from the viewing area. Goliath Black Widow with its new paint and new restraint system. The new water fountain mid way up the hill. The new shading Surf Shack closed for renovation. Kahuna Falls was apparently closed for a few days. But is now re-opened. Not a huge fan of how it finishes at the top. The Tiki bar is getting a renovation. Looks to open soon. The Rampage with new seats. If you look Bounty's Revenge's sign is still visible from under the main entrance building.

  4. You think so? They're sitting on about 39 acres \ 16 hectares. 7.5 acres \ 3 hectares of land is up behind the wavepool \ gravity wave \ kraken \ alpine slide. That's almost 20% of their land. (In comparison, the wavepool, which is one of the largest single attractions water parks will build, takes up about 1.6 acres \ 0.6ha) Then, when you move on to look at the rest of the park... The alpine slide takes up about 4.5acres \ 1.8ha. Its a huge tract of land, that actually occupies very little of it. Alpine slides are awesome fun, but their capacity sucks. Maybe they can build things around it? There's plenty of opportunity to install waterslide supports, or other 'overhead' attractions, but otherwise, its a huge part of the park that could really be used in many more interesting ways. Right inside the front entrance - theres a huge open grassed area, and a lot of picnic shelters (i assume) which is ripe for the next step up into proper park status (i remember when Jamberoo had a lot of these too). The park's maintenance and back of house area, along with the 'non-overflow-parking' area at the front also measures about 4.5 acres. This area could be redesigned to provide access to back of house, maintenance etc, whilst utilising space closest to the park boundaries for in-park accessible area. When you consider that between the Alpine Slide, the front unused \ maintenance area, and the as yet undeveloped land behind the wavepool amounts to almost 45% of their total land available within the block, i'd say they're nowhere near to running out of room - they just need to be smart about how the use what they have.... (and all this is without even touching the 3.5 acre carpark and overflow carpark - plenty of options to deal with that too) Of course - with all the undeveloped land behind them - who knows what the future holds for them.... so I think your statement is a little alarmist @Boyden Hingston-Muir - and that's coming from someone who has never even looked at the park's space before yesterday.

  7. They are probably getting pretty sick of having to push back Tower of Terror, it has been pushed back 6 times now. Its really disappointing that 4 large attractions (when you include Hydrocoaster) are having EXTENDED maintenance done during the school holidays. That is taking things a bit far. Its unlikely that we will be seeing Tower opening anytime soon as the attraction hasnt even had testing occur yet. Normally they spend days on end testing that particular ride prior to an opening. In saying that though, it is certainly better for them to close the rides, replace essential components and have them operating in a reliable manner rather than using band aid fixes and then facing constant breakdowns later on simply leading to even more maintenance periods. Make sure they are working 100% before opening. I get a bit sick of rides from DW opening after ridiculously long periods of maintenance only to close again a few days later (like we saw with The Claw in May) Problem is, these rides that us Parkz members complain to be crappy, unreliable attractions (like TOT) have been forced that way by Dreamworld and similar models dont have near as many issues. DW: take a deap breath, buy the parts you need and spend money on the REAL maintenance that your attractions need, and take your time if thats what is necessary to ensure a positive, long-term reopening of an attraction. (Although to be honest, I have a hunch that current long term maintenance which is occuring likely has understaffing to blame for the push backs).
