Here's a crazy thought - if the ride doesn't work with either a full load or an empty load, it definitely shouldn't be open. If you were going to hop on a ride at the Ekka and the carnie out front said "just give 'er a bit aye, if we load too many people on it doesn't work properly" you'd be calling Queensland WHS, so why is this any different? Here we have Gary Weiss stating before the inquiry that both him and the Ardent board are "committed to ensuring Dreamworld becomes recognised as Australia's global benchmark for theme park safety" but he's got a ride that literally half works and three signature roller-coasters that have been closed for months with no reason why and no end to their closures in sight. Enthusiasts need to take their rose-tinted glasses off - this is a bloody mess.8 points

I was at Aussie world today and I grabbed a few photos of some of various parts to the new inverting pendulum ride they are building. What looks to be the control booth. Parts of the gondola in some wrapping. Some unknown parts. Part of a sign and more unknown parts. The main arm laying on the construction site.3 points

Say you were the owner of Movie World and you noticed that a shop like Superman's wasn't making any money, surely you'd go "well shit, don't suppose no one's buying anything because the lockers are AFTER the shop where their wallets are" and then modify the pathways to fix that? (Harry Potter & The Forbidden Journey does exactly this.) It'd cost a bit of money sure, but every retail design book on the planet would tell you letting a potential customer walk out the building is a potential sale lost. You'd think given how much debt Village have right now that they'd be looking for ways to maximise revenue instead of finding inventive ways to minimise staffing requirements. But silly me of course, here I am holding the parks to the same standard as everyone else overseas. 😑3 points

I've had three trips to the park this season. Tim has brought you up to date on most things. Here's a few things I've learnt. They've really screwed up the membership system, this season. I bought my Platinum pass pretty early on - got my print out - that was it. First time I went, they said 'there's been a few hiccups, my number's wrong and you should hear something soon.' Nothing. Next visit: they took my photo and typed in my email address and said I would hear from them soon. Nothing. Third visit, I'm stuck behind a few people getting their photo taken and getting cards printed out with the hopeful message: 'I should be getting a care package soon.' Tim purchased his platinum pass after me and has had his stuff for about a month. I look forward to the next part of the saga. Surf Shack and the animal area have been closed since the start of the season. There doesn't appear to be any obvious work on either and today I found out that this is the Aussie Wildlife Experience's last season. I have no idea if it will reopen. Apparently, the area you view the koalas from experienced some trouble during one of winter's storms. I know the keeper's are still about, as Tim and I saw Amie on one of our last visits, where she went and saved a long necked tortoise that we had discovered. As much as I'll regret the closin of this area, it is heavily underutilised and would be expensive to run. If they're goping to use it along with the land next door for a new land, then good for them. There's been no concrete news about Fright Nights except that they're expecting to hold this event later in the season. Currently, the weather is pretty rubbish (as it was for last year's Fright Nights), so maybe this isn't a bad decision. There has been very little word about Fright Nights, allowing other places (King Carnival's Screamfest and its haunt attraction) to get a bit of a jump on the competition. Adventure World will be holding its junior event, Halloween Spooctacular next weekend. A few minor changes - the viewing area around Skull Rock looks great. There's more signage around the Grand Prix go-karts. The Black Widow has had some TLC. There's now a machine for Abyss' photos. Inferno has been working this season! The Tiki Bar area looks great, although it has been closed. The upper balcony has also has been blocked off. It was very quiet, today, raining quite heavily for some of the time I was there. There were a few people swimming, regardless.3 points

What did SW expect? The shop entrance says, come inside. SeaJellies entrance says, come inside for a mugging. If you’re going to put 2 front doors on your house expect to confuse your visitors unless you clearly indicate which door to knock on.2 points

If you are wondering where the propellor on the ship of Storm Coaster has gone, its now here COTD is still closed, but it’s because the walkways are being redone2 points

Exterior of the disco room is getting work done. It seems like they’ve slightly moved the wall out. Possibly to allow for projection mapping to be installed2 points

I think anyone defending them on this needs to drink less kool aid. There is a minimum to be cheap and run it less and a maximum because it's broke. The fact they turned a group of less than 20 away at the end of the day is pretty shameful.1 point

I just don’t understand, it can clearly run empty for test cycles (as it was doing the other day and every morning I’d presume) and it can run with 20 people. Why would it not work with 10? Or 30? It’s just complete mindless stupidly, without any rational reasoning1 point

I just remembered that the SE shop already did have it installed in the corner, so either they are extending it and removing the shop aspect entirely.1 point

You alright? The website already launched lol, and it's really bad. website1 point

They’ve had to go with the classic VRTP move and put an A frame out because people were entering through the shop and not the actual entry Inside they’ve also put a barrier up so people don’t take the wrong turn when walking through1 point

You have to be joking, well that or you have never been to Fright Nights before so haven’t seen how far the standard and quality have dropped. And I’ll answer the question you posed to Alex too given it’s in the same quote. A good effort doesn’t justify the price they change a regular punter to enter the park for FNs on last nights experience. Nearly every scene in the “new” mazes was a simple rehash of maze scenes from previous years. I don’t expect them to design and construction an entirely elaborate brand new maze each year, but some new thematic scenes and ideas need to be implemented to keep regular returning guests interested. It’s pretty simple really. When the amount of roving characters & entertainment offerings has decreased at least 60-70% on what it was 3-4 years ago, that isn’t effort.1 point

I think thats the documentary I have on DVD that I bought from the park.... Not sure who made the LE, it could have been a Sobema, but ANOTHER ride OCS ran into the ground, how that thing got on Moomba a couple of times was beyond me... I think the second time it didnt have the roof on... standard.1 point

The location of the lockers/exit store on SE has always bugged me - they don't let you bring any loose items on the ride yet when you disembark, you exit through the store but aren't able to buy anything anyway until you get to the locker. By which time, the euphoria of riding SE has probably worn off or you're distracted by something else to even want to return back to the store. Even if you wanted to get your picture, you go to the locker, get your wallet/Photo Fast Pass then return to the store only to wait in line because another group is purchasing something/checking photos. By which time you say, screw this, lets go and check something else out. Not a smart way of making money methinks.1 point

Lol... given I had to overrule the autocorrect to make it spell that way, I assure you it was intentional... one doesn’t accidentally make a bear related spelling mistake when quoting a post about bears...1 point

Although some of the others are also true, these three, in my opinion, are the most likely.1 point

Yeah the ARM units have OTSR's @Jobe, that's one of the main reasons that I find them uncomfortable. They're still a great money maker for showmen, but I'm just not a huge fan. The HUSS unit however I've gotten to ride once, and from what I remember, I loved every second of it! I was pretty young though, which is a shame. Fingers crossed for Youngs unit, which I believe is currently being refurbished?1 point

The hotdog stands old place has been replace with fake grass?? Rides are being filled because of the low amount operating and a large Japanese tourist group.1 point

Today’s update The exterior is now complete, and I think is looking really good (even if it isn’t the original design). Good to see they continued the blue paint across, and love the detail they made in the garden bed1 point

No, I don’t think that it was intentional of you. But whatever makes you feel good. 🙃0 points
