  4. Yaaaay, my turn to be a pedant! You know, if you're going to school this guy on Copyright Law it would probably be best if you did not violate it whilst doing so. After all, did you get permission to reproduce the picture on the right? No. That's not how Copyright works. Disclaiming ownership provides you with no legal protection at all - it's just one of those dumb things that people do now 'just in case' in the same way that they also participate in chain mail. Copyright is also about more than just misrepresenting who is the owner of a work - it's also about unauthorized reproduction. It depends on what we are talking about ownership of - ownership of the photograph, or of the subject (or contents) of that photograph.

  6. No it isn't Got it in one Nick, thanks. A few things that might help: Have a read of this, and feel free to PM me if you have any questions about it. Its important, if you're going to start stamping the copyright symbol over stuff that you have a good understanding of how copyright law works. If you assert a copyright over something that you have no right to, you can wind up in a fair bit of trouble - especially since 'public display or exhibition' these days constitutes "uploading it to the internet". Consider this, which has been in the news a bit recently: It is illegal, under copyright law, for a photographer to take the photo on the right. It is perfectly legal to take a photograph such as the one on the left. Do you know why? The safer thing to do with regard to the theme parks is to disclaim ownership (You'll no doubt have seen people disclaiming ownership of songs and such used as soundtracks to their youtube videos and so on.) To start with, stop using the park's official logos as part of the preview images and such - use your own brand, and give credit to the park if you use their images (ie: "image source: themeparks.com.au" or similar) Another simple way to get around usage issues is to comment \ news report, rather than strictly just filming it and showing it. It comes under fair use provisions - which is why news media can show footage. I think i've sufficiently derailed the thread - and now back to our regularly scheduled shit-show.

  7. When it comes to hot button topics I’m inclined to agree here. Let’s keep things civil in the interest of not reducing the debate’s integrity.

  10. I remember when the christmas lights on main street looked amazing. It seems like these are being put up more sloppily than in previous years. I'm a little disappointed. I'd love to see them change it up. With the technology these days, RGB lighting wouldn't be difficult, and then you could integrate it into the parade too.

  11. Since noone else has mentioned it - they're not 'just automatic doors' - they're an object within the ride envelope that can cause a collision with the car, or else cause the ride to fault if they aren't 100% reliable. If in doubt, leave it out. Thanks for the POV. I know the low light environment makes it hard to film, so kudos for doing as well as you did. FYI - (c) Parks on the coast - nothing in that video is something you can copyright - the park owns the copyright on every single part of that ride... and that applies to everything else inside the gates too - photography and videography inside the parks is for personal use only, and definitely not something you can slap your own brand and copyright over.

  15. Maybe you should re-read, and perhaps not edit my post to suit your own argument. Otherwise we end up with crap like: *Note - i've not added anything to the above quote, just selectively deleted things to suit my own purpose In addition - Parkz doesn't claim anything in 'in park photos' as its own - the photos are watermarked the same as a news outlet, such as channel 7 might do prior to publishing. You'll also note if you scroll to the bottom of parkz, the following: My original comment "brand and copyright" weren't two individual issues. brand and copyright were meant to be read together. By removing the copyright part, you remove all meaning of my reply - as its your brand WITH the copyright that is in issue here (otherwise, wouldn't I have taken issue with every other video you've ever posted for reasons of branding?) I remember when I was in high school, and I used to steal other peoples stuff, add a little of my own stuff, put it into something else, and then slap my own little copyright mark with it, along with my name. Made me feel so awesome about how much of a pro I was. I didn't have the internet until senior high, so much of this stuff was seen by about 5 people, and hardly damaging to the actual copyright holder - arguably, it wasn't even on 'public' display. But you put it on the internet? that's a bit different. I get it - you wanna play big theme park media outlet in your spare time. good on you. I remember lots of kids doing that, many of whom were (and some still are) on these forums. For some, that Dream will Neva happen. They'll never find their Zen, no matter how much they try, they'll end up Defunction. For others, they'll grow-a-go-go, and mature, and develop their teenage fiddlings into a legitimate business angle-chat-live. There are several people in Our World on here who have done just that and absolutely Roached it... Obviously, its something you're keenly interested in and I wish you all the best of luck in succeeding in that - as the saying goes - if you can find a job doing something you love, you'll never work a day in your life... but I urge you - drop the baby in the sandpit routine of 'why can't i?', and take some time to actually read for understanding. Learn from the lessons of those who have been in your shoes, or seen others who have walked in those same shoes, rather than fire back weak argumentative responses.

  18. Speaking of "that spot".... Ive done a bit of searching and haven't been able to find much info on exactly what went wrong when they had that malfunction. Does anyone have any info on it or can point me in the right direction? When I rode GL on sati noticed that first corner after the lift hill was making bit of a grinding noise that ive not noticed before and that kind of prompted me to think of it.

  19. @AlexB pretty sure it's a dirty hippy reference. Even then, they got some impressive filtration systems there. The water is probably cleaner than the ocean the protesters want the animals returned to. Wouldn't struggle to handle a few hippies.

  20. Jesus fuck that's insulting to the brand. Doesn't stuff like this need to be marked off by the rights holders? Despite being the same company, surely they would have thrown a tantrum about this Six Flags level theming.

  21. They don't provide sufficient info for an exact amount so I'll have to make a bunch of assumptions. Theme Parks EBITDA was $34,725k. Skypoint was about 9% of Revenue, so let's drop EBITDA by 9% to $31,600k. Corporate costs ($15,144k) are given as a group total. For simplicity let's use a % of Revenue (in this case 2.2%). Theme Parks Revenue was $107,582k, so * 0.91 * 0.022 = $2,154k. Revised EBITDA $29,446k. On the same group basis, Depreciation was 6.9% of Revenue. So $107,582k * 0.91 * 0.069 = $6,755k. EBIT therefore $22,691k. Doing the same with Finance Costs, was also about 2.2% of Revenue. So take off another $2,154k, for a NPBT of $20,537k. There's a bunch of extraordinary items and it's difficult to establish which pertain to Dreamworld. So we'll run with a pre-exceptional figure. For tax a simple calc would be 30%, so $20,537k * 0.7 = NPAT $14,376k. Or using % of Revenue again, NPAT $19.3m. So best guess, $14m to $20m, more than half what Skeeta said. Depreciation and Finance Costs are the big items that can vary the figure significantly. But either way, it's considerably less than $34.7m, let alone $43.0m. Should also point out Theme Parks EBITDA "only" increased 8.5% on the prior year. You could also assume that profits were inflated at Dreamworld because they were underfunding maintenance of rides...

  22. I don’t think it matters what Disney’s buildings look like. More that Longhurst’s vision is being destroyed. Or what the theme of the ride is. Whats pretty undisputabke is that is one friken ugly damn building! And I have to strongly disagree that DW was successful before it killed people, it wasn’t as dire as now but they could barely afford to keep funding what they had, let alone build anything new.

  23. That commercial is awesome, so it’s a shame to hear the ride isn’t of that standard and doesn’t feature all of the elements shown in the ad. @MickeyD that monster was a part of the ride originally, so maybe they’ve removed it entirely or poor lighting made it difficult to see

  26. Yes, Scooby is definitely in the suit of armour, although the section is not particularly well lit, so it's understandable to see why people may have not believed it to be there. I believe there is also a new voice prompt as you go past him, although it's been a while since I've last ridden. All in all, I was pretty disappointed with the ride. Maybe I went in with high expectations, but even putting the mis-timed theming elements aside, I thought that the animations were quite poor, and the Disco Room was lacklustre. It just feels really dated. The new lighting in the Wild Mouse portion was a cool addition I thought, but it felt empty without the lasers, and was unnecessarily well lit. The whole experience was just a bit 'meh'.

  27. @Jamberoo Fan the footage is a mixture of Scenic Railway scenes ( at the station) and then definitely interspersed with footage from Melbourne’s Big Dipper , which ran the length of the park and sat adjacent to the Scenic Railway on the far end. The River Caves we’re situated at one end of the Dipper, under the far turn. The Melbourne Big Dipper and the Sydney Big Dipper we’re identical in layout.

  28. For people who have ridden it now... Has this refurb made the ride better (before theming was removed) or worse? Im glad they’ve mostly replaced what was there and tried to improve on it with screens. But the fact there is no more Scooby at all, and the videos are poor quality, make this ride come across something that was budget, when in reality this ride was world class. Hopefully they’ve had some issues (much like they did with WWF effects when it reopened, but really they should not be having these issues. If the ride isn’t ready, don’t open it until it is), and the these lighting and screen visual issues are resolved soon

  29. It may be in technical rehearsal, but can they really improve the screens that much? I just hope there'll be more effects in the disco room and the animatronics and lighting will be brought back to their original standard.

  31. A couple of folks have kept me up to date who are down there for the opening & suffice to say they've absolutely bungled the opening of a much hyped "new" attraction. Firstly, their website still lists the ride as under maintenance. Despite this, they're very much marketing it as open. Not a great start from a communications perspective. So how has real world operations been this morning? Literally no crowd control prior to that section of the park opening. Folks were pushing in front of other folks trying to get to the front of the "rope drop" to line up for Scooby. Scooby is still not open (as of 11:07am) and wasn't open when guests tried to enter the ride after "rope drop." Staff were turning folks away & not allowing guests to form a queue outside the ride which i'd imagine would be super frustrating for those who turned up early and waited. The exit shop opens shortly after 10am and was telling folks it'd be open in the next 30 minutes, adding to the confusion of if the ride will open at all and when. Staff put a "ride closed" sign at the top of the Scooby entrance and an awkward mess of people stand at the front of the ride. No staff accompanying the sign sending more mixed signals about the ride. Despite Scooby Doo having an outdoor switchback queue-line that's mostly in the shade, as of 11:10am staff are ignoring guests and a messy-huge queue line is forming in the middle of the path. Staff haven't updated guests as of 11:15am despite there being a staff presence. Despite this, there's a staff member handing out Fast Photo passes. IMO - how do you stuff up the most basic level of crowd management on opening day? 99% of other theme parks have their supervisors create a plan of attack to ensure every guest is looked after - hell, even retail outfits like Apple hand out water and speak to every customer individually to ensure everyone's in the loop, but here we have Village saying it's open on social, but it's not on the website, but it is in park, but maybe not if you talk to some shops?! I really hoped they learnt from when they bungled the Rivals opening. Guess not.
