WEEKLY VOLARE UPDATE: It was a wet and miserable evening tonight but I braved it so I could check more of the ride's progress, as I'd already noticed on Wednesday that construction had significantly advanced (I was able to see the ride from Circular Quay station, your right @Jobe the former Flying Saucer site is a great location!). Anyway the ride looks close to completion.4 points

Tim and I survived the maze, tonight, although we might still be a little bit infected. The car park was only half full, so the word hasn’t really gotten out yet. It was certainly different from past Fright Nights, with effects in different places. The theme is all about the infected, with team members donning hazmat suits. There was some weird carnival stuff in there too. There were lots of roaming scare actors out until 11pm. The event actually closed at 11.30. Really enjoyed the metal band that came on stage at about 10.30. I don’t think the maze really compares to the ones at MW, but it’s good to see AW branching out and trying something new. I think Tim was just happy to walk the moat. Three more Fright Nights left for this season.4 points

Yeah, sorry Push. There are two ways to read that post, and you've taken the 2% of the time option, not 98% of the time. Re-read it as if SV was being built as originally intended at Southbank, Brisbane, and you will understand what Brad meant.2 points

We’ve come full circle with a video that’s just still images.2 points

At least they’ve gone to the effort of have detailed signage and prints rather than an A frame or something printed and laminated2 points

Wipeout's, HWSW's and Buzzsaw's stores are now all closed with signage. And more annual pass upgrading.2 points

If DW closed forever it would certainly be devastating, and I’m sure a lot of people agree. Right now the money just needs to be spent the right way to bring what they currently up to a good enough standard and manage it well so the rides are capable of operating. Maintenance is required, but not having all rides operating consistently in peak periods, and managing the down time across the year so a tonne of stuff isn’t closed at once. And refreshing anything that needs it, even if it is just a coat of paint, they just need to show care, promote what they have, and be smarter with all their decisions2 points
-
If you go during peak season, generally rides are open. They are just getting ‘maintenance’ this year during off season. *Maintenance being closing a couple of rides in off season.2 points

Umm.. who is joking about people dying? The ride isn’t open as it has defects and can’t be registered. A defect in a ride can result in deaths. That is a fact. A shop doesn’t require registration by a regulatory body to be set up.. that is fact. Pretty simple concept to understand. if you stopped trying to be offended and playing the victim all the time Push, you could actually be a half decent contributor here...1 point

That’s because in the shop if there is a defect in a shirt, no one dies.... F**king lies I tell you, lies!!1 point

I was thinking it's a bit odd the merchandise shop is fully stocked and ready to go yet the ride's not open.1 point

I don’t think I’ve seen more than 5 of the “big 9” open at once in the last two years. Some, like Tower of Terror, are often closed even outside of planned maintenance periods. Even outside of the rides it’s become mediocre, the animal enclosures are increasingly sparse or empty. Gumbuya World has a far more impressive collection of Aussie animals at a much smaller park.1 point

Except this year, last year and the year before that.1 point

Not sure what they used as a base, but it is designed on the New 52 comic line, and looks impressive in person1 point

Because it IS both, I don’t know what I’ve apparently been busted on. I worked on the park for years, right up until just weeks ago.1 point

I don’t see another operator being overly interested unless it was at a bargain place as the park would largely need a broom through it. Theyd maximise their land value by selling to developers if the council/govt indicated they would happily rezone (in exchange for copious land taxes). I personally think we’re stuck with Ardent until the decide they want out, and then we have nothing at all..1 point
-
Dreamworld can be Australia's best theme park. All it needs is a decent operator. The longer Ardent own it the worse it gets making it cost more to restore the park.1 point

Whoever put together the investor presentation at VRL apparently didn’t know Carnivale moved to Sea World 😂1 point

They do actually. When idiots fountain vote posts that don't deserve fountains, it encourages people like me to give the post a thumbs up to compensate...1 point

What annoys me on this front is Village practically gift wrapped DW a place in the market. They basically said we're going to move on our prices, you can now have the advantage on price if you want. DW's response was to raise prices too. So stupid. Village raised their price, saw a tiny decrease in attendance but much higher profits. DW raised prices, much lower attendance and slightly less revenue. Good going there Ardent you sure understand the pressures facing your business. I don't think they like to highlight things which will reduce the guest experience1 point

yeah i'm a bit over the fountains too... maybe he's trying to get rid of some of the water as HMAS Dreamworld sinks....1 point

It could be hard to find some footage but a friend in need is a friend is a friend indeed so I will give you the low-down. Hahahaha...16 years ago!! Wow! Nice find! That's from before the site was even called Parkz!!! Very cool!! Its good to see things are rapidly taking shape. The ride will come together quite quickly now. Great work and lets hope this is just the tip of the iceberg for changes to LPS over the next couple of years.1 point

Hi guys!! This is my first post in this forum....I would just like to extend to Richard my hearty congratulations on an excellent site that is growing all the time!!! Well i am here to discuss my favorite park since I have been a kid....a place that held so much magic !! Luna Park Sydney!! Recently it was announced that the Metro Edgely proposal was approved by the govt and I sent forward an e-mail ascertaining a few questions. Here's what I asked... Hi, My name is John and it is with distinct pleasure that I read that Luna Park has finally been given the green light for a revitalisation!! I have fond memories of this marvellous place from my childhood and would love to take my children there to sample the joys that i experienced!! However I have a number of simple questions that need answering if you would do me the pleasure. I have researched the history of Luna Park extensively and have a fair knowledge of its workings, rides and attractions from 1935 to present. *Firstly: The site says that the character of Luna Park will be preserved. But with no Big Dipper,(ie no main attraction) what will be its main focus now?? Do you think that the Luna Circus( a great idea i admit) will be enough to make the park viable?? *The site states that the Tumblebug,Rotor,Tango,Dodgems, Ferris Wheel,Wild Mouse, Coney Island and childrens rides will be retained. However what is to happen to the UFO ( a great thrill ride!!), The Spider( a great family ride that should be retained), the Ranger( ok it was a bit carnival but a fantastic white knuckle ride) and the Octopus( a family favorite) Why cant these be incorporated into the new park(other than room) and do you feel that the cutting of the number of rides and attractions will lessen the viabilty of the project?? ( I feel that this is a mistake and that as many rides as possible should be retained to KEEP Luna Parks unique character.) *Now that the Dipper is gone and you have stated the rides to be retained. Can you elaborate on any new rides or attractions that will be added or are planned?? Perhaps a River Caves ride??( this would be fantastic and a REAL drawcard if done properly) Any other thrill rides?? * what are the chances of Luna Park getting another coaster?(something smaller the the previous Dipper, how about something that can be put indoors??There are plenty of US and European models with small footprints that can be put into an indoor structure and fit quite nicely within Luna Parks confines. This would be a great attraction indeed, coupled with the new Circus and would also be unique in Australia(other than the Spooky coaster at Movie World) How about the Beastie coaster from Wonderland?? This is currently standing but not operating and would harken back to the days of the old wooden Dipper!! Classic!!(Something that should never have been torn down IMHO) This is something I feel that the park needs to bring back visitors and keep them coming back... a world class ride that WONT annoy the residents. Has this idea been considered or discussed??? If not why not?? and will it be reviewed?? * Lastly if you may, can you give me an overview of of the whole park as it is going to be, with ride locations and new attractions? maybe a map or etc?? This would be fantastic. I look forward to hearing from you. I must admit to being a little disappointed about having a Luna Park with no major coaster and a lessening of rides( an opinion which seems to be in the majority to the people i have talked to) However i am gladdened to hear that the park is going to survive and be for the general public again. I live by the old Luna saying: Just for fun!!!!!! Regards John Graham Boingo95@Hotmail.com Note the slant towards and ever hopeful desire for a coaster of some type!! Well here is the reply that i received!!! Dear John Thank you for your email and your enthusiastic support for Luna Park. To answer your queries:- 1) Metro Edgley initially submitted two proposals to the selection panel for Luna Park - one incorporating the Big Dipper and the other without. Unfortunately for people such as yourself, the second proposal was selected. The Big Dipper is now enjoying a new life as "The Cyclone" at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast. With the court ruling restricting its hour of operations, it just was not a feasible option to keep it at Luna Park. 2) The new Luna Circus will fit well into the matrix of Luna Park. It will be able to feature the best of Australian and overseas "non-animal" circuses as well as being used for concerts, magic shows, conferences, banquets and exhibitions. This, together with the improved function facilities and new cafes, will certainly make the Park viable. 3) The UFO will remain at Luna Park in its current location, ie above the administration building. With regard to the Ranger and Octopus, it was just a question of trying to find some space in which to locate them. Metro Edgley was keen to keep all the rides however it has been a compromise between finding sufficient space and also being a considerate neighbour. 4) It has always been Metro Edgley's dream to return the River Caves to Luna Park and even though they are not part of the current plans, it is hoped that in the not to distant future they can be built. Space permitting, it is hoped that new rides can be leased for the holiday periods to give our visitors a different experience when they return. 5) Unfortunately the small size of Luna Park prohibits the introduction of another rollercoaster however you will find that the refurbished Wild Mouse ride will be as exciting, if not more, than any rollercoaster ride! Currently we do not have any plans that can be emailed to you, however in a few weeks we will have sign boards up around the Park showing the location of the rides and venues. Also I think you will find that there will be a similar number of rides operating as there were when the Park was opened in 1995. Entry to the Park will be free and visitors will only have to pay for the rides they want to ride. We look forward to welcoming you back to Luna Park in 2004 - Just for Entertainment! Just for Weddings! Just for Conferences! Just for Lunch! and of course - Just for Fun! best regards Anna Hearne Functions Manager Luna Park Sydney So there you go!! River Caves in the not to distant future( Translation: No money now and we will wait and see if the park is viable) Only coaster will be the Wild Mouse as there is not enough room!!! Rubbish!! They obviously havent seen too many designs for some of the more compact coasters that could be housed indoors....any one have any ideas or suggestions here guys?? So...while i am happy that Luna Park is to survive and hopefully thrive I hold out for hope that they gain in the near future a world class coaster or white knuckle ride to put the smile back permanently on Mr Moon's face!! Cheers Jobe1 point

To be joking about the death of innocent people is a sick, immature, and downright nasty thing to do. Shameful.0 points

Ardent would have to sell it at bargain basement cost for anyone to be interested in rebuilding the park, brand and image. Theyd make 10x more on land alone for developers - that’s what they’d be aiming for0 points

Main Event in the US is clearly their major focus in terms of investment, growth and profit0 points

I cannot think of a single troubled theme park that has turned around on the back of spending no money. Next stop for Dreamworld is either a new owner or closing forever.0 points

It's pretty easy to add some extra land to your footprint when you run a hypercoaster out along your property boundary. It doesn't really change the size of the park (think Disneyland, and the buildings beyond the berm). Otherwise, can we start counting the BB Arena and Gumtree plantation in DW's footprint too? HWSW's footprint, for example, occupies space that is also utilised by waterslides, and guest accessible footpaths. How big are the two land wise if you measure MW to the 'pre-hypercoaster' boundaries?0 points

Viable yes, and i imagine it would be a reality if the long rumoured/planned hotel ever becomes reality. I don't imagine they would have massive issues with planning permissions providing it wasn't above the 3-4 story mark. The introduction of it however would certainly bring with it the beginning of paid parking.0 points

That's an amazingly well thought out point Push *suppress shock*. You're right. When White Water World opened, which had arguably better quality attractions and a nicer overall guest experience - Wet N Wild's response was "Biggest and Best". That is Dreamworld's answer to Movie World - a park that cannot expand much further behind it's gate - it will eventually be forced to overtake it's carpark to continue expansion, or it will have to replace attractions. Dreamworld on the other hand has plenty of land even within the park's boundaries that it can develop (provided, that is, they don't just keep cramming more shit into ocean parade).0 points
