I found this pretty funny, I’m sure it is somewhat frequent but I haven’t been to dreamworld in years. The GD ride cycle after mine has been stuck for 10 minutes so far. Engineers just rocked up, wonder how long this lone bloke will be up there. I’m honestly very jealous, I love these unique ride experiences. Update: it’s been 15 minutes. How many engineers does it take to get this lone bloke down, 6 so far. Update 2: after 20 minutes was Very slowly lowered down5 points

You can agree with me or not on this one. But it seems like it’s the beginning of the end for Scooby. So the ride is still no where near what was expected (especially after watching the TVC). Every time I ride it, I just miss the old version more and more. And maintenance isn’t even due until the END of the year. (let’s hope they can incorporate everything and fix whatever until then) After investing “$1 million” into re-doing a ride, you would imagine a better outcome. I took a closer look at some props and they looked like cheap props from the clearance section of Kmart after Halloween. (Excluding the re-used props and animatronics). It’s understandable that the $1 million was towards re-creating the set, re-painting the facade etc but if they were willing to keep scooby in action for a good 5-10 years they would’ve spent more than $1 million on cheap tv screens and poor animations. There’s still no lasers or fog (as shown in the TVC). Effects and projections are either out of time or not working. The ride had potential, but it was all poorly executed. The poor outcome of the ride suggests that MW doesn’t really care about the ride and is just doing a cheap revamp to keep guests coming in. They’ve stripped props from the queue, they havnt cleaned the dust off that jester in the loading station (it’s literally been like that forever). I won’t be surprised if in the next 5+ years they change the theme of the ride or completely remove it. This revamp is not promising..... And theoretically, Scooby Doo is not as popular as it used to be. Yes they spent $1 million on re-doing the ride but that’s not enough to create a ride that could even compare to the previous version. This revamp is just a way for MW to save money instead of creating a decent new ride. In the meantime they are probably saving to remove scooby and create a new attraction. But who knows, there might be added effects soon and improvements to come...5 points

Here’s the thing. This is a self contained attraction of which they’ve built plenty. You litterally bolt it to the floor of a provided building. So this will entirely be Dreamworlds usual incompetence causing the delays. It’s not like they had to build a prototype attraction. They had to build a building! And ensure the proper fire, egress, emergency planning, etc. The fact they couldn’t get that right shows you how deep the incompetence runs. NO ONE in that whole place has ANY business running a theme park.3 points

Sky Voyager will not help the park the way management think. Even when it is the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere it still will not save the parks current image. Rather sad.2 points

It was handed over, than they found out it was fucked, than they handed it back over and now they’ve got to hand it back over again.2 points

Spoke with a ride op today who said he’s ridden Sky Voyager about 20 times himself and says it’s a real game changer. (Whether or not he’s telling the truth, I don’t know) He said it is incredible but the delay is to just make sure it’s perfect, he expected around Easter release. (My guess is for the Easter holidays so it can actually seem busy and run full cycles - as today I’ve been a sole rider on a lot of rides cycles, their is no one here) I sat and watched the back doors of Sky Voyager for 30 mins today. Dreamworld maintenance and (I’m assuming) Manufacturers we’re walking in and out frequently, so my guess is it hasn’t been handed over yet either.2 points

When the fountain is bigger than the likes, ignore. (and give it another fountain)2 points

Not on its own. If they had an inspiring and exciting madterplan for the park, clearly communicated what that plan was, and invested heavily each year for the next 5-10 years to implement it, then as a first part of that plan SkyVoyager could certainly help. Sadly, none of the above is true!2 points

Dreamworld mismanagement reaches fever pitch with tone-deaf Wipeout closure Dreamworld's announcement that the iconic Wipeout is now closed was a foregone conclusion for the 25 year old ride, but what's worrying is the lack of a future plan from a theme park whose owners have no apparent strategy. Can’t say you are incorrect but for the past 3 years I have always taken everything up there?1 point

The building itself is easily replaced at a new location. Take out the necessary walls to re-create the openings, remove the expensive bits (the ride essentially), level the rest and call in the real estate agent.1 point

If it was the first addition in a 3 year plan to refresh the attractions (i.e. Sky Voyager, one major flat ride or family coaster, two-three kiddie rides) I would be optimistic. Right now it seems like SV is the "ride most likely to be relocated when Dreamworld inevitably closes".1 point

All valid theories, but just as with Dreamworlds SkyVoyager delay, why can't they just be completely honest and tell their customers the full and frank truth about what's happening and why?1 point

Is it possible that the lack of theming for the new ride is because of forces somewhat out of their control? In 2015 they announced a new animated Scooby Doo movie. To be released in September 2018. Could MW have been planning a new overlay for the ride based on this new movie? A December 2018 reopening of the ride with a completely new theme matching the new movie would have been wonderfully synergistic. Then in May 2017 that new movie was delayed until 2020. If the ride needed an update anyway, to fix physical ride issues, rather than just show issues, they might not have been able to delay the maintenance. But given the timetable, is it not possible that they'd locked in contractors and supplies to do this upgrade, and then had to scramble to retrofit a "reworking" of the existing theme because WB would no way want some backwater park in Australia to be the first to reveal design/plot details of their new animated movie 2 years before the actual movie's premiere? And they obviously cannot come out and just say that this is the case either.1 point

I know this ride is taking forever to open, but these rides are amazing. After going on a few overseas i am very excited to have one here on the gold coast. It is a new experience and once word gets out it may spike a small rise in visitors. Fingers crossed that it spikes just enough to encourage future development.1 point

Nope. It will provide a minor uplift and give passholders an extra ride. I don’t see it being the saviour and driving a large spike in extra passholders or interstate visitors1 point

Parkz forums members are DW guest. Parkz forums members are the ones who buy the cream at Fright Nights. Parkz forum members are the ones who book out Star Tour Access for months at MW. Parkz forum members are the first ones to shell out money to ride rivals backward. I don't know if it's true or not but DW has shown little care for Parkz forum members in the past.1 point

Big brother is not owned by DW. They have no say in its production. People getting disappointmented may as well complain to McDonalds that they want better pizzas at Dominos. Magicians have a strong history of theme park shows, my thoughts are this will be a one off for Neon Night though.1 point

An application was lodged to Gold Coast City Council (not a link to the application - see the paragraph below the quote) on the 28th of February: I'd add a link to the relevant Gold Coast City Council application but from previous attempts to link applications from there in recent months, I've found it will just lead to an error message for you all due to last year's information technology system upgrade the Council implemented. As far as I am aware, Sea World's plans have not yet been approved by a private certifier but according to Gold Coast City Council they are "in progress" of being assessed by the private certifier. Now does the application description mean 1 performance stage or 'Stage 1'? If it is 1 performance stage, then that might be what they are building on the island and maybe there are multiple performance stages? If it is 'Stage 1', then what is 'Stage 2' and/or how many 'stages' are there? 🤔 I'd probably say it's the latter - 'Stage 1' of a masterplan. This would fit in with some recent rumours.1 point

Dreamworld don't need to hit a home-run right now. They need to just hit singles and doubles. Get to first base, then to second base, until all the bases are loaded and you can start getting back to home base and get some runs on the board. Everyone here wants them to invest heavily in a major attraction - and they definitely need to do that eventually, but they need to make some smaller, significant plays to get back in the game. The trick is to buy off-the-shelf rides that fit into the family/thrill category. This means mild to wild thrills. An ABC Tourbillon to replace Wipeout, an RMC Raptor or Gravity Group Woody to replace HWSW, leading up to a falcons-fury style revamp of GD to replace TOT2/GD. (I know the tourbillon is a 'meh' ride, but the visual experience will have everyone talking about it - which is the point!) Slowly, build an aviation-themed area of the park to replace Gold Rush that highlights some of the major Queensland contributions to Aviation (Charles Kingsford Smith, Qantas, etc.), and then invest in a major new ride - the new Vekoma Flying Coaster - as the centre piece, work in the new GD rebuild, and Sky Voyager into the area, and suddenly you've got a park that is kicking some major goals, with a range of unique attractions that other GC parks don't have. They need to dream big, but act sensibly. Ardent can absolutely turn this around if they just commit to a proper vision for the park and really sweat the details. As a priority, hire a Creative Director to oversee that creative vision and do what that person advises. If they can just hold back from turning the former GoldRush site into a Caravan Park, I remain hopeful (but not optimistic).1 point

Ha!!! I must have just missed you. I drove past there at 10:00pm on Saturday night for a quick looksee- my pics are dark sorry!! @19Michael96 is completely correct- the back drop has not been changed at all and all this will probably not change for the opening next Saturday. We can live in hope however. This was taken after the park had closed but with all lights still on due to a function being present. The park certainly does look excellent at night and is well presented with a calvacade of lights! This is where LPS and LPM come into their own- their night time riding experiences which is currently unique in the Australian theme park landscape. Love this about both parks. What appeared to be new ( or maybe I have not noticed them before!! ) is these very well presented new electronic signposting. These serve as information points for the park and also as advertising for upcoming events. The screens are not static as the maps shows rides moving etc. Nice touch by the park and it certainly brings some modern touches and also some classiness to the park and its overall presentation. Small touches but very welcome, especially for a park of the size of LPS. LPM please take note. The teaser video for Volare has hit Youtube and although simplistic, does an effective job of building the hype before the official launch of the ride next Saturday!! I will be unable to attend , but does anyone else have plans to go down next weekend?1 point

They just need to remove the 'big 9' billboard they've got facing the southbound motorway at the back of WWW. Surely around the world there are wooden structures with timber older than 40 years though... the age of the wood isn't in and of itself a 'yikes' now, is it? Wouldn't it be more the condition of that timber? (which granted, at Dreamworld, probably is worth Yikesing) As for a send off - if the ride was in an operable state, and was safe to operate, sure - let it run for another few weeks or whatever - but would you be advocating a send off if the park had found an unsafe condition within the mechanics of the ride? no. of course not. This is of course the difference between a planned replacement ride process that US\EU parks have, and a 'oh shit, its busted up good, better not run it anymore' that our parks have - including things like Sea Viper. Even parks that do run structured replacement and lifecycle programs, the unexpected does occur. As Slick mentioned - two years ago the CEO was talking about the ride lasting for years more - clearly, this took them by surprise. It shouldn't have, but clearly it did. LTRR wasn't directly replaced by JDS though. The warehouse was gutted and spent at least a full year as storage space, and even played host to their lot sale that year (i've been in the space to pick things up from that sale\auction while it was a giant empty warehouse, full of christmas decorations and parade floats) You could just get a carnival operator to drop a trailer based ride into the park for a year or two though...?1 point

I understand people's disappointment in this announcement but whilst I think it's unlikely Ardent would do this, it would be cool if they let WipeOut's giant wave stay, get the water features on it working again and convert the pool where the shark was into the 'chill space' but with a circular water feature surrounding it featuring fountains (similar to the ones that shot up during the ride's cycle but on a smaller scale) and small cascades coming from the bottom of the wave and going around either side of the 'chill space' before disappearing underneath the footpath to enter the 'chill space' where the water would be cycled back up to the wave. A nice tribute to WipeOut & a great place to relax and cool during summer. But I feel Ardent would wipeout WipeOut 😜completely and just put a couple of umbrellas, chairs & tables there with some artificial lawn.1 point

I WAS very excited to have what I thought would be my first of many goes on SkyVoyager. I'm pretty sure I will still go on it if and when it eventually opens, but I have to be honest, I've lost a lot of my confidence in the safety of the ride due to the very lengthyunexplained delay. Unexplained, that is, apart from vague second hand rumours about safety issues. Safety issues, ON A BRAND NEW RIDE!!! Alarm bells and sirens going off in my thoughts about that! As I said, I do still want to go on, but I will probably not want to be one of the first. Has anyone else had similar thoughts?1 point

Expanding hours per day doesn’t always equate to a shorter time frame for overall maintenance. maintenance length may be due to the need to send a part away for repair, or requires components to be stripped down to identify before you can order replacements etc. You can just say “well instead of closing Ride X for for 2 weeks while the park operates, let’s close the park for 2 days and get it all done”. You’ve also got a contacted workforce as well who you are now going to pay to stay at home, or deal with lengthy drawn out Union grievances which turn to negative press. Not to mention international tour groups that come through parks daily.1 point

So instead of future attractions, they money is being spent on a magician. Can he make sky voyager open, no? Than why did they bother paying him. Everyone is even more disappointed because people wanted big brother not a magician.0 points
