  1. I've have also been told the likelihood of it being open for Easter would be a long shot also @Evie The information I'm getting is the 25 million allocated to get DW rock 'n' rolling again has been spent. The cupboards are bare and DW have nothing to show for it.

  2. What baffles me more than those saying 'close it for a bit' is the idea to get rid of things like the 'disney style' entrance. For better or worse, things like that ARE dreamworld. If you take too much away, the park loses it's identity, and that isn't a good thing for the thousands who hold nostalgia for the park. Renaming it is similarly fraught with danger. If it is both completely reinvented inside, and completely renamed outside - is it even the same park? Would it have been better to start with a greenfields property so you don't inherit all the problems the existing park has (and the history?) No. If you're buying this place, you're keeping it substantially the same. You might be fixing a few thigns up, putting a few new rides in, but you're not wiping the board clean. You're not getting rid of the native animals that draw busloads. You're not getting rid of the most modern (ick) waterpark on the coast 'just because'. And saying something should be "well themed" without defining the what, or the how is laughable - even Disney fell short of 'great theme' occasionally, when money was tight. That's like me saying my new car should be 'well painted'. Define it, or it means nothing. I don't hate the idea of closing it for a bit. Perhaps even moving the park to a seasonal trade for a while, opening for holidays, and maybe weekends, until they improve the bottom line. Sure, there's some full time staff there that may not be able to keep their jobs as a result, but this is a business, and if that move is best for the business, then that's an unfortunate, but necessary side effect.

  3. I think closing the whole park for a few months does have some merit. It would allow them to do hardcore construction without having to juggle operations and having it impact on guest experience. It also gives you a chance to relaunch, and draw a line in the sand and say 'that was Old DW, this is new DW' and gives a good chance to change the narrative about the park. It only works if you're adding a good couple of rides and you're upfront with what you're removing before you do it.

  4. Mickey, from the outside a man would be forgiven in thinking DW have given up. Wipeout final closure during its standard maintenance stinks of "it's going to cost us how much to keep it gong? Close it down". Dreamworld Express closed for 5 months stinks of "it's going to cost us how much to keep it gong? Put it in maintenance". WhiteWater World expansion stopped during op works stinks of "we have no money left? Close it down". Sky Voyager not opening stinks of "DW unwillingness to get the job done".

  5. Now you're making things up. The only person that has this negative perception is you. Staff members wouldn't be riding it if the ride wasn't safe.

  8. Say ardent decided to sell Dreamworld and you had the money to buy it how would you go about fixing it? Me personally id first to a safety audit of all the rides I’d heavily market the nostalgia of Dreamworld bring back an updated one day holiday jingle repair the steam train and get another on loan from a steam museum chuck out the tractor on wheels invest in a well themed moderate family thrill coaster possibly a wooden or rmc in the old gold rush area bring back the paddle steamer and stunt show bring roaming themed entertainment to the park like they used to, invest in a Kenny koala /Belinda brown /cooee the gumnut fairy cartoon short for television remove and replace poorly themed attractions that are close to the end or their shelf life replace the log ride with a new log flume system from Mack or intamin with all the mordern safety features focus on quality theming throughout the park once you are in profit again reinvest those profits back into the park instead of using it to fund other ventures overseas and the start complaining why their share price is dropping and cutting dreamworlds future investments like ardent has

  9. There will be a new attraction this year, but the big signature investment will open late 2020. vikings Won’t return and I’d expect within about 12 months there will be no traces of it left

  10. Beware of the big length, but this would be an ultra-long term plan if I had the budget of Chinese theme park companies. My idea is that Dreamworld would engage in banking on the recognition of the park's history and reintroducing former rides that were popular with guests, as well as introduce new flashy rides that aren't seen anywhere else in Australia. Most of the actual theme park section, especially the thrill would need to be wiped clean and totally replaced. Tiger Island, Corroberee and WWW are mostly left untouched with a few cosmetic upgrades. There isn't exactly much worth saving beyond those at this point. Things I'd change right away (short term) Change to seasonal operation. This is done in a similar manner to Adventure World as theme parks usually don't perform well in the winter months. This allows the park to make additions and changes in the winter months. Lower ticket price to make DW a more cost effective alternative to MW. Rocky Hollow is rid of its stupid modifications and replaced with seatbelts like every other log flume ride. Areas I'd work on in the medium term (1-3 years): Wipeout replaced with ABC Rides Torbillon. Identical name and identical theming to the original, promoted as a next generation retro revival. This is because Wipeout is one of the more iconic and popular attractions Dreamworld had and keeping the Wipeout name will draw the attention of guests. Having a flashy ride like this will also grab plenty of press and public attention due to its unusual nature. The former Thunderbolt site that was to be replaced with the lazy river is replaced with an RMC Raptor, named Thunderbolt after the original. This allows the park to retire TOT and having both of this happen in the same time distracts guests from TOT being closed as there is a new coaster in the park to ride instead. Tower of Terror is closed, and Giant Drop is converted to a Falcon's Fury gondola. Ripping down the TOT will free up space for another family ride in Dreamworks Experience. Areas I'd work on in the long term (3+ years) Hot Wheels Sidewinder replaced with a waterslide tower. WWW don't have a Boomerango or a Six Flags-style King Cobra waterslide so maybe it's time to get one of those. This essentially completes WWW. If you want to do a direct coaster trade, an S&S 4D Free Spin would be nice, but HWSW's plot is better for a WWW expansion. Dreamworks is expanded. The arcade and Kevil Hill are demolished and replaced with a Croods or How to Train Your Dragon area, including a couple extra family flat rides. Gold Rush is fully rebuilt with the same theme in mind. Plans for the ampitheatre would be scrapped. A dark ride and a new family flat would be built in this development. Buzzsaw is kept and refurbished a la Wipeout and given proper theming. Gold Rush's initial expansion is targeted as a family thrill area, a step up from Dreamworks but not as intense as the rides in Ocean Parade, that is until... Tower of Terror ultimately replaced by a new marquee roller coaster in Gold Rush and covering up to Blue Lagoon. A Mack multilaunch or Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster would be nice for this area. If you want to really go off the shelf with this, a clone of Smiler would be a cool addition.

  15. Yeah, it could close for the winter months, but if they haven’t got any plans or rides to introduce, what’s the point? I just wished they had a plan going forward, especially since it takes a year to book a coaster or significant attraction at any reputable manufacturer. I think they should invest in well themed family rides that won’t break the bank. There’s a whole group of people who aren’t catered for at MW. Those who don’t want to do terrifying coasters, loops or backward drops. The people who liked LTRR and Bermuda, but aren’t catered for by Storm or the driving school. The patrons who prefer MDMC to Jet Rescue. DW needs to invest in the future and give people a reason to renew their passes.

  16. That would create wayyyy too much effort for us. We're mods, not parents. Instead, we have handy tools like the one I just applied to @Max Egan where we can pre-approve posts until we reckon members follow our pretty easy to follow community guidelines. Also, this thread this garbage and i've locked it.

  18. It's not my cup of tea, but some people really love it - @Tim Dasco - to name one. The harnesses are a real selling point more than the height. Some people don't get the chance to fly to the east coast all of the time, so this is a nice alternative. Like Kraken, a lot of people wouldn't have experienced a ride like that in Perth. Yes, I would love less spin and spews.

  19. And in the meantime they are fast running out of product to sell, there are only so many rides you can close before people completely stop bothering (especially the current ticket price). At this point I'd consider the waterpark to be their core attraction, everything else is a bonus...
