The difference, is that Skeeta didn't offend someone, and then complain about people being offensive. He returns serve, and gets as good as he gives. My issue is with the hypocritical nature of posts from someone who will, in the same breath, insult someone (return salvo or not) and then call them out for insulting someone. My post (which is the one that has been removed) simply used the same words and intentions, and substituted some key words to turn the same post around on the original poster. That meaning has obviously been lost - but the hypocrisy remains. For what its worth - the fact that the mods removed it, and not the preceding posts demonstrate that a line was crossed, and for that, I do apologise, both to Push, and to everyone else intelligent on these boards. I don't believe in blocking anyone - which is probably why I do rile up. Happy for Push to block me if he so chooses. I think, however - in Push's case - he does intentionally set out to irritate and annoy. He's entitled to his opinion, yes. And that opinion can be right, or wrong. I do occasionally agree with him, and give the requisite 'like' when he does so. However, stupid things like "i am dumb, so i await correction by someone wise" repeated on every post, or taking any mention of SkyVoyager as an opportunity to spout about how far away boxing day is, is annoying. The guaranteed reply from him anytime a park announces a thrill ride - can be used to set your watch. Unfortunately, like many others - he has given himself a particular reputation on these boards. The difference is that others either leave because they aren't welcome, or they change their behavior. I'm not perfect - and here, clearly, I was in the wrong - but please do not pretend that he is the victim - he is just as much an antagonist as most others here. ETA: As for 'not being a crusader' - you do seem to bring up the dictionary definition a lot. The definition of Crusader is By that definition, your statement that you are standing up for what is right to try and enact some positive change, i think - is easily covered by the above definition. Finally - Apologies for bringing this back up after several days of silence. This wasn't intentional, and simply because i didn't get around to finalising my thoughts in a timely fashion. I would like to ask the mods perhaps if the preceding page or so could be split off and put somewhere else - but que sera.5 points

Okay, noted. I got caught up in the emotion of this thread and I apologise if I've come across as rash and rude. @Richard I highly respect the work you do for the Australian theme park community and I'm disappointed in myself for letting emotions get the better of me instead of furthering the discussion that you've striven to create. I was frustrated at the stance many people take towards Dreamworld. It's entirely justified and fair that people have this stance because they genuinely haven't shown any interest in improving their property outside empty promises. However, I have a personal attachment towards that park and you could say it makes me bias. It's not my responsibility to help people think of Dreamworld in a different light and I'll leave that to their PR team. Even though this community can sometimes seem like the front lines of a war zone, I know that there are genuine individuals willing to further add to the discussion and excel the conversation. If there are any stances or points that you don't agree with that I haven't provided a sufficient response to just let me know and I'll clear it up. I realise that this thread will probably show me in a certain light. I won't take back what I've said, but I will learn from it.4 points

@CaptainLazerGuns, you've come into this discussion with vague assertions and straw man fallacies. Responses have been made to you in a rational, respectful manner. I write articles like this to get people to think and react so I'm more than happy for respectful discussion/critiquing but as it stands all you've really offered is ad hominems about the community at large. Even that would probably be fine were you not claiming to be taking the high road while simultaneously goading members and dishing out bizarre pejoratives about lists and gifs (it's 2019?) that don't actually exist in this thread and rarely at all in these forums. By all means share your opinions, but expect replies. This attitude of taking your ball and going home because others disagree really has no place here.4 points

@Jobe I generally enjoy your posts and input on this forum, and I can genuinely say that applies to pretty much everyone involved except for the annoying overseas guy wanting photos of SDSC 2.0. People who have differing or left field ideas, interests or opinions to the majority, or challenge the norm, are always going to be open to more questioning, banter and spotlight than others, that’s generally how most of society works, irrespective of if you are on a forum, in a lunchroom in an office or on a worksite. In “the real world” people learn to accept and embrace that they see things through a slightly different lense, and generally the banter and jokes they receive are taken in the spirit through which they are delivered. Unfortunately in the online world the ability to decipher intent, tone, sarcasm etc are entirely personal as you don’t have human cues or online ears to hear delivery. Therefore your inner voice or the way you perceive things naturally - be that positively, negatively or indifferently - can determine how you perceive the intent of a text comment. I’ve never met a single person on this forum and have no idea if Alex is a 12 year old girl or Skeet is a 90 year old war veteran, to me they are people who my mind determines are probably not so different to me in the real world. That could be spot on or possibly could not be further from the truth. I’m here to have fun, share a passion, expand my knowledge and experience things through others accounts of their experiences. I’d like to think everyone else here is as well, so therefore when banter that I could understand could offend pops up, I make a rationale decision that it’s not intended to be as such, as why would it be? Why would anyone here want to personally hurt, upset, “bully” anyone? I don’t think they would, so I don’t try to find that outcome in what I am reading. Look for the good in people, not the bad. This forum isn’t overly moderated, which is amazing, as I’m a member of many that are and they are not enjoyable. If the mods think something goes beyond banter, joking or ribbing, or believe that it could be perceived to be, I have faith that it would be deleted and the person warned.4 points

Skeeta this isnt about anyone who loses a debate. I understand that what you first posted was meant to be a joke and in all honesty I get that. However, Push obviously was a little offended by it and then responded. However, it was when AlexB posted AFTER that, with the very post that WAS removed ( ostensibly by the mods ) was when , for me , the line was crossed. You have to ask yourself- why was that particular post removed when the others remained? All you can draw from it was that it was offensive and went against the Community guidelines. Now this is not just about Push but lets use him as an example. Is this the FIRST instance of where posts have been pointed and directed at him in a demeaning way? Have there been comments made within posts that have been said in a derogatory tone in reference to him? The answer is obviously no as we have all seen posts as I have described that I would say falls under these banners. I am happy to have a joke- don't get me wrong. I have been on these boards for longer than most and I have seen a lot of instances and posts where the community guidelines are nowhere near followed . I come here for my enjoyment and for fun, to indulge in a love of mine- one that we all share. I agree if we all lightened up about certain things the board would be far more friendlier but this goes for proponents of both sides of this debate. Tone and context is everything. You are absolutely right here Joz and they both certainly can. But at best it's a bandaid solution as you have correctly intimated later. It doesnt remove the problem. Bullying behaviour is all about having and showing power over another individual (especially in this case, a public forum) and if the subject of that bullying blocks someone , the antagonist simply moves their behaviour onto someone else. It does not change. Not a problem. Seeing that I had just read said post is the reason for it now being given. I disagree with your premise , hence the fountain. That's why the capability is there is it not? Respectfully I disagree. I dont think that this word has been thrown around willy nilly either- this is in response to instances that have happened over a great deal of time. Not just one instance. Many. Let me be clear this is NOT about someone who has JUST had a disagreement. This is about the sustained and numerous instances where someone has been villified not just for posting an opinion, but in some cases, for posting at all, and all the derision that numerous cohorts can muster with that. Also its irrelevant that you think its not bullying. If the person in question feels offended or that there is an issue, then that is the overriding context. You cant speak on behalf of how someone feels because you are not them and you are not in there situation. To post the view that no one else know's what bullying is ( except you apparently) is nothing short of sheer arrogance. The only thing diluted here is your perception of what bullying actually is, in my opinion. I have no issue with good natured ribbing or banter. Its when malicious intent and underlying tone changes banter into something else that i have issue with. Just because someone doesnt know you personally doesnt mean what you say about about them on social media or forums cannot hurt or damage them in some way. YOU may be ok and I may be ok and able to handle situations like this but guess what? We are all different and we all react differently. I agree here Skeeta. Bullying is not the same as when there is a conflict or fighting between 2 parties. I hate to go to a dictionary meaning of bullying , but it comes in many, many forms. To be a bully: Furthermore, acts of bullying can be if: Now there have been actions and posts towards other posters that can definitely fall under one or all of these banners. I have seen it and there are other posters that have recognised this , independently and on their own. We have already seen evidence that there are people who are intimidated from posting on these boards at times, because of these actions. That seems to have been ignored amidst the rest of the debate. I am not sure what you are getting at here- HOW are we harming people who really get bullied? By having the courage to call out behaviour that can sometimes appear on these boards? By pointing out through civil discussion and debate that bullying practices and techniques do and have existed on the Parkz forums? Then I guess we are all guilty as charged. It was never going to be a popular view with certain people, cliques and circles on this board. I must say, I am a little flabbergasted at the lack of affinity that can be shown on these boards at times. This is one of them. I am not advocating for either side here, nor do I think of myself as a crusader ( as you have stylised me and others) I am, however, just standing up for what I think is right, to try and enact some positive change. Please do not misunderstand me here- I understand completely that there will be arguments and people on these boards will have disagreements and differences of opinions from time to time. That's normal. As has been shown, this could be one of those times The behaviour I have described as happening, however, is completely different. If by posting this view, one person takes this on board and posts with a little more empathy , then in my mind, that will be a positive thing. I guess we will also see , after airing this view, how I will be treated now on these boards moving forward. What I do not want to see is bullying or bullying behaviour be trivialised or water downed upon detecting or identifying. My final point is that I am not the only one that has felt the growing undercurrent of tension that can inhabit certain posts that are directed at certain posters. There are several who have arrived more or less to the same viewpoint , independently ,as they have viewed certain interactions on these boards. This is not just a one person view. Its something that IS happening and has been exposed by several other people. We have certainly heard from some in this debate. How many more remain silent? I say again to all what I posted before; Don't be a prick and the board will sort itself out. Accountability for these type of posts must be taken by ALL involved.4 points

Absolutely agree. One of my favourite shirts is a Sea World 'corporate' Polo I bought from there a couple years back. It's a very similar design to their Village Roadshow workers uniform which is strange but I really like it. I'd love to see attraction specific Polo's in the same corporate style. Overall though I don't mind Australian theme park merchandise. It's understandable that they they're not willing to take a risk on expensive & exclusive merchandise like you see at Disneyland ($100 attraction specific spirit jerseys for example.) but what they offer still allows you to take a little piece of the park home with you.2 points

@Jobe you just want to be the judge, prosecutor, jury and go straight for the public hanging. I do try and evenly be an asshole to everyone, but some people say more stupid things than others. I have some evidence for you @Jobe. I've probably butted heads with every person here. Instead of this public hanging and if you wanted real change you could do this. And for people who think Richard doesn't act when conversation turn sour and go to the toilet.2 points

That explains a lot. Although Richard's previous post on this covers "asking for photos" I feel that much the same logic can be applied to "asking for updates"... I'll just leave this here...2 points

@Brad123 thanks for your post. It was a balanced and well thought out response. I certainly agree in principle with what you have stated, in an overarching sense. i guess what it does come down to is interpretation. As you say, it’s very easy to misdiagnose intent on a public forum at times. i guess by talking about these key issues and how some people perceive how and why things are posted , we can all be better educated and I suppose better armed at dealing with these instances as they arise. If it helps in clearing up any misunderstandings and preventing these from occurring then this is the positive impact that I mentioned. Also,, just to be clear, in what I was referring to was not meant to highlight JUST Push, Skeeta or Alex, nor paint them in the light as being the only recipients or antagonists of these issues. There were certainly examples involving them but it was not meant to limit nor target these 3 posters as being the root cause. It is also not meant to reduce the numerous positive contributions that all 3 have made on the board either., which in my mind , far out weigh any perceived negatives I realise this is a sensitive topic and only through civil discourse and debate can we clear the waters and find the common ground we all seek. Cheers for that- I think there has definitely been enough said about this topic and I am certain we can all move on to what we come here to do- to indulge in the passion and love that is theme and amusement parks in general. 👍2 points

Easily the most gentlemanly posts i've seen on here for a while. Good on you, mate. 🍺 After reading Richard's article, i'm cautiously optimistic. There's some huge hurdles Ardent needs to jump if they plan on holding onto Dreamworld for a while yet, but the cash injection rolling off the back of an uptick in crowds thanks to Consentino is definitely a good start.1 point

Yeah you are, it was a fantastic ride. Yes it wasn’t doing as well in its final years, but when it was running at full capacity and it did all its tricks and flips... amazing. I unfortunately didn’t first ride it until around 2014, soon after it’s major refurbishment but I would’ve loved to have ridden it in its early years. Such a shame to see it ago, but in reality it would’ve cost millions more to rebuild it from scratch it get it properly running at normal again1 point

Hong Kong Disneyland Resort is probably the best for young families in my opinion. I know you've both been, but I think with kids it'd be new again. A couple of pros: The park is basically never crowded but still has all of the magic that you expect from Disney. The resorts are within walking distance / very short shuttle trip so you can rest during the day without missing anything. You don't need to wait long for shows, entertainment and parades so you don't really need to worry about the kids getting restless. Character meet and greet experiences aren't insane so you've always got the opportunity to meet the fan favourites. Flights from Australia are SUPER cheap if you can score a good deal. If anybody asks me this same question, I always direct them to Hong Kong Disneyland.1 point

Having managed new apartment buildings built by professionals, the length of the defect list upon completion would frighten you, especially the larger issues found (not just marks and dirty floors). In one instance, a 13 floor (plus basements) building had every single penetration (go on, giggle 😁) fail as the wrong material was used to seal around where pipe/cabling went through the concrete slab. The original seals where passed by QFES inspectors prior to opening, but failed the defect inspector who came along after opening. We had a building with ~100 residents in it by the time it was picked up, that technically wasn't fire safe. This was pre-Grenfell Tower, I'd suspect if it happened today, everyone might have been made to move out until it was remedied. That building was built by one of the bigger construction companies in SEQ and passed by the Fire Department themselves, and I think is a good example of how things can be cocked up. Stretching my memory, I think the issue was that the first stage building was 5 floors, so that seal material was ok and everyone just proceeded to use it on the 13 floor building under a wrong assumption. Turns out that over a certain height you couldn't use it.1 point

Maloney's corner is where I would put my money when it comes to a new coaster. Plenty of room and the only close building you would have to deal with is the office block that is located in the Maloney's corner. It would also be rather fitting if it was placed in this area as the previous big dipper used to be somewhat in that area also. I'm sure you could somewhat soundproof the area for the lavender bay residents by placing a decorative wall or something in the way.1 point

Yeah this is a tree falling in a forest Zen philosophy sort of thing. It's the interactions between the 2. Normally one will say something, the other will argue because internet and theyll both back and forth until name calling. Blocking isn't a perfect solution but it would make the earlier stages harder to achieve.1 point

Bullying is not the same as conflict between people (like having a fight) or disliking someone. @Jobe@iwerks@pushbutton You might think yourself as the antibullying crusaders but all you are doing is harming people who really get bullied. Not to different from the people who jump into the pools at SW to save the dolphins. I know you guys mean well but I think you need more education on what bullying is. People do fight & people do dislike each other all the time.1 point

Great points and very well articulated @CaptainLazerGuns. Good point @Naazon. We know better than most, how far and fast Dreamworld has fallen. Thats not to say that we want to see it close or shut its doors- for mine its the exact opposite. If we tend to focus on the negatives, for mine, its because there are so few positives in Dreamworld's current situation to balance these out. We ALL want a strong and viable Dreamworld, but most of us recognise that this is currently far from the case. We are all hoping that at some stage someone sorts out the predicament that Dreamworld is in and restores it back to its pre-eminence in the Australian theme park industry.1 point

Debate us then, have an actual argument about why you think we're wrong. Don't just say I disagree and you're too negative without backing it up. 'You say consistently quality attractions at VRTP yet they added Sky Flyer. You're giving them a pass for adding crap.' That would be an argument; an actual point to support your opinion. I've now made more points for your argument than you have. I might still disagree with you when you're done but at least you'll have made a point. If you're not going to back up your position, I guess agree to disagree is the best we can do. I think you're wrong. That doesn't mean I dislike you or think all your contributions are invalid, but I think your opinion is not supported by facts. The article says 'DW have tentatively said publically something different to what they've been saying. Here's the context as to why they might be saying that, and here's why that's a good thing.' The article doesn't say 'DW says maybe thrill rides in the future. That's dumb'1 point

@AlexB Thank you for respecting my stance and opinions. In regards to your final comment, I think I know where it comes from. Many opinions on here aren't debated, they're attacked. I'm happy to have a discussion but in response to @Richard questioning why I haven't provided a rebuttal to some arguments it's because my words are picked apart and dissected to consistently keep me on the back foot and that doesn't constitute discussion in my opinion. A lot of people don't have the patience to deal with that sort of behaviour and you end up with a community full of twitchy people with big sticks ready to whack whatever comes into sight. I could respond in gifs, short sentences and 'lists' that entirely focus on one side of the argument but language was invented for a reason and I choose to use it.1 point

@CaptainLazerGuns, I congratulate you on holding firm on your position, and clarifying (in other threads) those points that have been misunderstood. Through other means, I know that you don't share the same lean as many Parkz articles recently - and that is entirely your prerogative (I too disagree with the viewpoint Parkz puts forward from time to time - and am not backward in coming forward on that - the best part about that though, is that Richard is happy to discuss and debate respectfully). It's important that everyone take stock and recognise that the articles published by Parkz are predominantly editorial (albeit well researched, and usually based in factual stats) - but as such, are the opinion of the editor. Like any major publication, the Editor has the choice of influencing and directing the angle that the publication takes, and whilst many recent Parkz articles have focussed on the negativity of Dreamworld's actions, it's hardly unwarranted. It's ok to disagree with these articles, and to share your view on the issues at hand - but i'd like to pose one question (that i've asked myself when disagreeing with the angle Parkz has taken) - is the "echo chamber" really just nodding in agreement because they're mindless bobbleheads? Is it really an echo? Or is Parkz just saying what many of us are already thinking?1 point
-
More disappointed than anything. This community perpetuates a negativity bias. It lusts for failure and drama. Threads and articles regarding positive outcomes, announcements, and successes are quickly snuffed by negative bickering, snarky remarks and the dismantling of others opinions that don't match the echo chamber. Please, prove me wrong.1 point
-
We can only blame ourselves and the public for this. We want additions, we want them big and we want them now! Therefore theme parks go with the safest additions possible for the minimum price and maximum impact. Look at Dreamworld for example. They took a risk with Sky Voyager and they're paying for it. It's been delayed a couple of months and the theme park community doesn't care about the attraction; they just want to see heads roll. Other parks around Australia will look to this an example that if they take a risk that doesn't pan out then it's just not worth it. Put in a multi-million dollar virtual flying theatre that's delayed? Scorned. Chuck a temporary travelling carnival ride in the centre of your theme park? Praised.1 point

As Jobe mentioned, the changes that have occurred since Cyclone resided there as Big Dipper would probably mean - provided they followed the proper approvals process - the nearby residents would not be able to complain and shut the park down as they once did. Personally, if they were going to build a large scale coaster, i'd prefer to see them try something similar to california screamin - a steel coaster, made to resemble a woodie, to pay homage to the seaside amusement parks of old (ala cyclone). Whether they could fit it - who knows - Disney did a wonderful job of building the Pier in and amongst the CaliScreamin ride infrastructure - so it could be done...1 point

Yeah 100% correct here @Baconjack. Although nothing has been confirmed, there is very strong evidence to suggest that LPS will be adding a Maurer Spinning Coaster at some point in the future. The consultation with Pitt and Sherry , which is confirmed on their website is as solid as it gets. Also, the previous Senior park Manager, Brad Loxely , hinted strongly to me that another coaster will be coming to LPS. This is great news and a coaster such as a spinning Maurer would be an excellent addition for the park and also an Australian first. Lets hope that now the legal issues of DA's and adding rides has been resolved , that these plans are now firmly back on track. Could the park build another large coaster? Given the new laws that have been documented in regards to adding rides, I think that they certainly could. However , the park has several points to consider in regards to height and also placement within the park, before they could do so. I think that any large coaster would be subject to a DA , as in this case , it would more than likely exceed the limitations that have been placed on this process. A better question would be"Does LPS have the will to build a new large coaster?" On this point i would most certainly say no. Given the issues that could arise from such a install and as has already been pointed out , they want to remain on good terms with their neighbors. A new 100 foot plus coaster would not be welcome, unfortunately. LPS does need another coaster and I feel that this WILL occur with the ride reinvestment program that is now currently being undertaken. One point to note is that Luna Park still hold the trademark to the name Big Dipper, so it could still be utilised on any new coaster. Given the awesome Immelmann curve that is the feature of a Maurer spinner, its easy to see how the name "Big Dipper could be used for a coaster of this type. I personally would prefer to use the name Wildcat for it, but Big Dipper works just as well. I would love to see any new coaster use the Tumblebug space- this may require some elements being built over the back end of the slab but it would mean that the Big Dipper facade would be put to far better use and for a coaster, as it was originally intended.1 point

Wonder how long it will take to deem the chairs too risky of kids standing on them and putting a cage over them to prevent an accident. As a double bonus though, the cage would act as a secondary shade solution for maximum shade effect!1 point

I love that they've put a demo chair out the front already, so you can see if you fit in the harness on the finished attraction. You can even preview it in shade AND sun. They really do listen to social feedback.1 point

I don't mind attraction specific shirts for some of the big rides in a park, but what i do want to see more of is POLO SHIRTS. Nice, good quality. by all means go dye sublimation and have a really nice full colour thing like dreamworld, but don't use the same montage of ride photos that means the shirt is dated simply by referencing which rides are still running. My preference (and things I wear almost weekly) is a nice wick-away (not heavy cotton or synthetic) polo, in a single, or two\three-toned colour scheme, with the park logo on, or in the position of, the breast pocket. MW and SW have these (although some are identical shirts designs in the same colours, just with a different logo, which is a bit of a cheap out.) Polos in the 90's and 00's were widely available at parks all over - but in the 2010s, the collar seems to have disappeared to be replaced by simple crew neck t-shirts, which is disappointing.1 point

You can agree with me or not on this one. But it seems like it’s the beginning of the end for Scooby. So the ride is still no where near what was expected (especially after watching the TVC). Every time I ride it, I just miss the old version more and more. And maintenance isn’t even due until the END of the year. (let’s hope they can incorporate everything and fix whatever until then) After investing “$1 million” into re-doing a ride, you would imagine a better outcome. I took a closer look at some props and they looked like cheap props from the clearance section of Kmart after Halloween. (Excluding the re-used props and animatronics). It’s understandable that the $1 million was towards re-creating the set, re-painting the facade etc but if they were willing to keep scooby in action for a good 5-10 years they would’ve spent more than $1 million on cheap tv screens and poor animations. There’s still no lasers or fog (as shown in the TVC). Effects and projections are either out of time or not working. The ride had potential, but it was all poorly executed. The poor outcome of the ride suggests that MW doesn’t really care about the ride and is just doing a cheap revamp to keep guests coming in. They’ve stripped props from the queue, they havnt cleaned the dust off that jester in the loading station (it’s literally been like that forever). I won’t be surprised if in the next 5+ years they change the theme of the ride or completely remove it. This revamp is not promising..... And theoretically, Scooby Doo is not as popular as it used to be. Yes they spent $1 million on re-doing the ride but that’s not enough to create a ride that could even compare to the previous version. This revamp is just a way for MW to save money instead of creating a decent new ride. In the meantime they are probably saving to remove scooby and create a new attraction. But who knows, there might be added effects soon and improvements to come...1 point
