Here’s the first construction update since it’s announcement: There was some activity happening on the eastern side of the land, with some large machinery a lot of shipping containers on site All the trees have now been removed from the land where The Vortex will be and the creatures will be removed very soon. Sky Flyer is closed for maintenance, so the entire COTD area is closed off With JR also closed right now for maintenance, access through this area of the park is restricted, but I’m thinking (based off the concept artwork), we will see this bridge finally go and the pathway issues in this area resolved10 points

You know it's winter when SW's dry rides go down for maintenance. 🤔7 points

I finally had the chance to ride the new Scooby Doo Coaster with my wife the other day. Scooby Doo and the live action film hold dear to our hearts for various reasons for which I will not go into here. I am usually a firm believer of "if you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all", but with this I just cant restrain myself. What the fuck have they done to this ride? They have essentially taken what was a world class and world renowned ride and made it a steaming pile of shit. What the ride has become is now an insult to the original ride, and certainly an insult to the words "World Class". To those who think that they are still to go in and fix it, this it it guys, this is as good as it gets, this is what management consider "world class", it isn't going to get any better until someone wakes up from their deep sleep. I don't understand who thought this was good enough to sign off on, but if this is what is considered the new "amazing" at VRTP, then you all should be very concerned for future projects.6 points

Few photos I took. They'll most likely be my only construction photos.5 points

So I recently got to ride Scooby (within the last two weeks) and I have no idea what the hell they did. My previous time before my current go was some two years ago. When it was nothing but a guttered out ride and resembled a "bunnings warehouse" more than a ride. back then it had more character at least. I had not watched any POV of the ride so I went in somewhat blind. Kinda makes me wish I was actually blind now. It is such a terribly themed ride now. Apart from the Tiki section at the end.4 points

@Ash come on... quoting TPSN as a source? Bikash is an arrogant blowhard - he said SDSC would be world class, and in the words of @T-bone its a steaming pile of shit. I'm taking everything Big Gash says with a few kilos of salt until he produces something concrete to back it up. Don't get me wrong, i'm loving his engagement with the theme park community, its something we've needed for a long time, but don't over promise and under deliver, and NEVER rubbish a former colleague in public.3 points

Since my last visit to the park they have updated the monorail signage, so I think this proves to an extent that it won’t be going anywhere2 points

Just continuing on from this update, the upgrades to these pools have been finished2 points

Publicly used heights safety systems, regular, professional inspections by qualified equipment certifiers... i mean @StingRay makes a good point that they can make use of the equipment in an evac situation, but the fire brigade could do similarly without the expense to the park. I'm qualified in working safely at heights, and I oversee the routine maintenance and inspection for the tools and equipment used by up to 96 crew - there's a significant cost in buying and maintaining the equipment - especially if it isn't going to see regular use. I predict 'by appointment' will get nixxed entirely the next time equipment inspections are due simply because it isn't making enough money to cover it.2 points

And after a weekend of uproar, Dreamworld have now decided to extend the offer to include corrections officers as well. Maccas, Coles and Woolies employees unite - if you all PM Dreamworld and complain, maybe they'll extend the offer to you as well!2 points

that's a bit ridiculous after all that investment. Like if the numbers are dropping off, sure - scale it back and offer it by appointment, but maybe post a couple dates a year people can book into if they don't have the minimum 4? Put it in high season periods, like school holidays \ schoolies etc, and if that fills up, list another date?2 points

While I think it’s great they’ve installed these, it’s a shame they didn’t install shade sails that were themed to watch the smaller ones1 point

Apparently, it is a really good little water park. It has just undergone an expansion and I think another expansion will be in the works within a few years. It's fairly cheap but apparently uses a session system much like the water park at the Big Banan.1 point

Lucky I managed to do the climb when I was up. I did it on the 19th. I mean it is what it is. I was in a group of five (that's including myself). I asked the question to the climb leader if it was still going ahead because nothing was advertised on the website for the future. They acted like they were unsure but obviously, they knew. I got to virtually do it at night and it was nice. But would be much better to do it during the summer period where daylight is out a little longer. But as others have said. After all that investment they can't simply write it off. Then again it is just the fact the jumpsuits wouldn't get used a lot. All the safety equipment would still get used in other areas of the park or in the event of an Evac on the lift hill.1 point

Aragog has been hanging there for ages, in the dark and as far as I am aware there is no power connected to it either sorry. Frankly, the ride sucks so bad at the moment it's just embarrassing. I don't even like to go on it anymore and hope some improvements are on the way soon.1 point

The certainly know how to make money siphons, and they've done an awesome job here. I want to buy my own Jedi outfit (even though I already have one), make a lightsaber and make my own droid. I'd spend soooo much money here. Ditching the option of premium economy tickets and blowing it all at Galaxy's Edge. For whenever I go back to the USA (2021 hopefully).1 point

There is a special place in freak hell for those kind of people. What kind of soulless loser wants to steal a competition of a kid visiting a theme park1 point

May as well post this here given Greg’s move has already been discussed in this thread DREAMWORLD MAKES KEY EXECUTIVE CHANGES TO DRIVE FUTURE OPERATIONS MAY 27, 2019 ATTRACTIONS / SAFETY / TOURISM /WATERPARKS As part of a move to implement global best practice in all aspects of theme park and attractions operations, Dreamworld has announced significant changes in its executive team. The changes see the Gold Coast theme park’s Chief Operating Officer Paul Callander move into a newly created role as Chief Strategy Officer for Ardent Leisure Theme Park & Attractions. Callander has held various roles within Ardent Leisure over a long period of time and with his knowledge and understanding of the business, he will lead the development of a new masterplan for Dreamworld. The role will also include overseeing the implementation of a number of strategic growth projects and continue to have executive responsibility of SkyPoint and the Sales and Marketing function for theme parks and attractions. Taking on the role of Chief Operating Officer for Dreamworld & WhiteWater will be experienced theme park professional, Greg Yong. Yong has been described as “an asset to Dreamworld with an extensive background in the theme park and entertainment industry”. Yong, a board member of the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association (AALARA) was previously Chief Operating Officer - Asia & Executive General Manager - Theme Parks for Village Roadshow Theme Parks and Australia’s first Topgolf. In his new role, Yong will oversee all theme park operations, food and beverage, retail, security, cleaning and grounds and Life Sciences. Announcing the appointments, Dreamworld Chief Executive, John Osborne stated “these recent executive changes have been designed to allow us to focus on future planning, managing key strategic projects and bringing new initiatives and attractions to the park. “They will also bring key guest facing roles together under one reporting line and will ensure a more integrated approach to the overall guest experience.”1 point

Checked out the area this morning, and must say that it has been really well done and was very popular. There seems to be plenty of shading and seating at the moment, but I can see the need for even more over the coming weeks. The area was very colourful and I think its a great replacement for the water park. One slight issue I have though is, despite the volcano being very impressive when down in the area, and from a few aspects throughout the park. If you go higher up, or even from some positions in 'The Reef' area, the illusion of the Volcano is ruined. Which is a real shame because it does look great, but when it looks like its been chopped in half or just randomly placed there, not so much And heres just a look at the information sign1 point
