Vale Tower Of Terror!! I remember riding this in 1997 not long after it had opened and it set the thrill benchmark for Australia and made the world sit up and take notice. I am a little bit bittersweet at this announcement-especially the timing- as I am due to take the family to the Coast and visit in January. Both my kids are fairly devastated at this news, having not had the opportunity to ride this before now. Its very true that this is better managed closure than Wipeout- but not by much. A far better scenario would have been announcing the rides closure now but giving it a decent length of time to farewell it- lets say the end of Xmas school holidays. This then would have allowed Dreamworld to really ramp up the rides closure, provide people with a must do , last time attraction/ ride experience over the January/Xmas school holidays and really give it the send off that a ride of this iconic status deserves. Would also have liked a ride replacement announcement to go with this - this then would have indicated that at least management have really learnt from the Wipeout fiasco, but perhaps given the small lead in time for the closure of the ride, this says more bout the reliability and viability of the TOT remaining open than the general public have been led to believe. Fingers crossed that a new , dynamic and substantial replacement will be announced very soon!!6 points

What a relief then that the Giant Drop is staying put, ammirite? The blue fire coaster will literally launch guests backwards up a bank of track.5 points

Yes, it was early. In comparison to Wipeout, which was announced after it had run its final cycle. This gives people a chance to actually ride it. So, GD remains, and the TOT track will be removed "in the coming months". They have no plans for the space at present, as noted by the DW faqs stipulating that Fully Six, and the TRRR site coaster are 'the replacements' so to speak, as well as leveraging off Sky Voyager - a ride that is now more than a year old... definitely getting mileage off that one. While some purists may seek to return the vintage cars to their old location, and consolidate the park - I feel that the TOT space is ripe for their next planned expansion - which, i'll admit, won't be on the radar yet, but it will be the next expansion pad. My ideal, is this: Currently, the public views DW's as yet unnamed and unthemed coaster as being better than SW's Leviathan. From an enthusiast standpoint, a launched mack probably does beat out gravity group, but from the general public perception, i feel its more a case of 'steel: good, wood: old'. However, SW is going to have something unique - one of the only woodies in Australia - and if the ride succeeds - DW may seek to steal some of that by building their own woody. The Tower launch envelope, the dead area near rocky hollow and the murrissippi may lend itself to a great meandering layout, finally utilising the river and the island as well as the possibility of impacting the DW skyline positively, so that their graphic designers don't need to add superman escape to the silhouette to make it look good... It's probably a ways off, but the narrow launch track footprint would look great with a tall wooden lift hill, before a huge first drop leaning into a sweeping bend to swoop back up over the river. For anyone keeping score: Cinema, Wipeout, Thunder River, Tower of Terror Sky Voyager, Unnamed launch coaster. Taking things out, and not putting things in used to be a sea world thing.5 points

I respectfully disagree with this statement. The ride will be great but I cannot see it becoming more iconic than the giant drop. I also don’t think the roller coaster can ever replace Tower of Terror. Only two in the world and that experience can’t be replaced easily.3 points

While this is sad, I really hope the park don’t remove the Giant Drop. That ride is just as iconic and still packs a punch. If it got to the point where the ride had to be removed, I would hope that they replaced it with something very similar, but better. A DW without that iconic tower just wouldn’t be the same3 points

A lot more notice than what we were given for Wipeout, Looney Tunes River Ride, Bermuda Triangle, Mach 5 and Sea Viper3 points

For all your information, this building application appeared on the 17th or 18th October and has been approved: Remember, up to those dates mentioned above, only demolition was approved.2 points

Supports are out of view now this section looks to be maybe part of the loading platform2 points

Nice as this sounds, I don't think the tower itself has much life left in it to bother with spending a crapshack on a conversion.2 points

Is anybody else looking for the blue supports laying on the ground?😂2 points

Heavy lifters here today and some shiny blue supports laying on the ground2 points

Can only assume that the increase unreliability and cost to keep it up or maintained effectively outweigh the benefits of keeping it for the summer peak. to be it seems the dripping tap of money/resources being poured in to keep it working has dried up I hope they don’t leave any track running down it, not long term anyway. Next major maintenance period for GD should see that removed From what I have heard, and Parkz has just posted, the station area will be cleared to makeway for a connected area between Dreamworks and ABC 4 Kids.2 points

Wouldn't it have been smarter to wait until after the summer holidays to close it?2 points

Of your list of potential rides, only an RMC Hybrid seems a remote future possibility if the market reacts strongly to SW’s Leviathan. The tower is staying put for GD. I believe Once the track and existing station are removed they will link ABC and Dreamworks with a new kids attraction and likely some further theming and amenities to make it one larger family and kids precinct. Beyond the Mack triple launch due end of 2020, they are on the lookout for another thrill ride that I imagine would be for a 2022 release1 point

How are people already forgetting that literally the first element of the new coaster is like TOT before it launches into a full circuit coaster?1 point

Turns out the park has been doing some construction. They’ve built a slab of concrete between the wave pool1 point

I would love a falcons fury at dreamworld but built in a new location and at a similar or taller height (giant drop), which would replace GD in the future.1 point

Crawler cranes, between the main mast and luffing jib can get that high. I don't see them bringing a tower crane in for what wouldn't be a long term job.1 point

Well that sucks. I dont get to make it to DW in time. Still at least we got some notice. This should have been announced at the time of the 2018 results or should have closed much closer to the opening of the Mack Blue Fire clone. I'm assuming DW finally threw in the towel if they closed the ride this early and wanted to extend the ride's life to January at the latest. Now they'll have a peak season with yet another thrill ride down and it is going to sting the main park considerably, at least they'll have most of WWW done and Fully 6 up to distract the guests. I said some time ago TOT's closing is a PR disaster waiting to happen, and they have handled it actually pretty well for Gold Coast park standards. Still, it's only a week, and wasnt anywhere near as much notice as let's say Vortex at Kings Island, but it's something. Either way good riddance. Never ran as well as it did when it ran forward. Now it is time to look into that Falcon's Fury conversion to GD.1 point

Hopefully now they can have a more reliable ride selection. Wipeout and TOT 2 were the most unreliable rides and now that they are gone, maintenance should be easier for Dreamworld and their pockets won't be bleeding trying to keep the rides running. Although, they are going to need planned investments continuing from what has been announced so far. This is a massive loss for Dreamworld however and was arguably the most iconic ride in Australia and will defiantly have a negative impact on the park for the time being, especially so soon after Wipeout's closure.1 point

Closing announced and confirmed through emoji was the greatest way ever to send off a ride.1 point

Another sad day for Dreamworld this year, but it’s no surprise. Happy they were able to make this decision early and announce a date to give people once last chance to ride1 point

I've got about 1000 Ardent Shares at about what it's trading for now, figured that the new ride late next year will do a lot in bringing the place back. While I'm glad to be back on level pegging I was a bee's dick away from buying more at 90cents but it shot up before got down that far. Explains the mystery gains of the last week because no doubt word got out. Bugger, missed making a lazy $300 by a week and 1 or 2 cents. Don't think I'll be buying any more at $1.20, although I'm sure who ever bought in intends to make money at that price. Last I saw, Gary is in at $1.24 so that's 2 rich people who think they can make money here. It's also possible that someone has worked out that buying all of Ardent is cheaper than buying DW. As you can tell I have nothing insightful or interesting to add but am interested in the topic.1 point

Last call: Dreamworld's Tower of Terror to close November 3 Another iconic attraction at Dreamworld is going for good, but some lessons have been learned from the bungled Wipeout closure earlier this year. Click here to continue reading0 points

Or, given the revelations, you could unhide/reinstate what was removed, as it demonstrates rumour reliability (unfountainness, if you will)...0 points

Thats sad. You thought that Dreamworld would have waited for the new rollercoaster to open first, I hope that Dreamworld will now upgrade giant drop to to a Falcons fury gondola0 points
