  1. The Airlines were handed, 1.4 billion and let 10's of thousands go... and that was a bail out, not a loan. Your issue with Ardent keeps fogging your view of the bigger picture. They are vital to the long term recovery of an entire tourism, accommodation and leisure industry on the Gold Coast.

  2. The government probably also understands that this is a major tourism draw to the state. If the worst did happen and they took control of they park, they would understand its value as a whole instead of Wonderlanding it and trying to pull a firesale to recoup funds.

  3. Of course no-one is expecting them to repay the loan in three years, it is just the point at which it will get refinanced at a different interest rate. If that fails, it is secured so the state government would essentially take possession of the business while every other creditor would likely lose their money owed to them. So really what has happened is the state government has secured the long term future of Dreamworld as if it goes badly they'll be in control of the major decision making, ie who it gets sold to or potentially directly operated. The government is unlikely to lose money on these deals and even then they could justify it with keeping these businesses operating in the intervening period which the private sector cannot justify in the same way.

  5. Oh, I am aware that it was not a case of Dreamworld letting go 50 casuals. I completely understand that. But VRTP has let many go (non-casual & salaries) from its various parks worldwide during this. The staffing levels between the two companies are vastly different also. 50 staff being stood down from VRTP would be nothing compared to what Dreamworld has just done. With multiple properties, it can be absorbed rather easily. I still don't yet see how this could affect the daily operations upon reopening unless they don't have any duty managers or supervisors anymore. It's obviously hard to speculate what positions are gone. But looking 50 indeed was a massive blow for the company. I do wonder if under the old management people has rather large salaries hence why some* are gone. VRTP has done the downscaling before and placed even more workloads on staff (not talking frontline). So this could be some form of streamlining within the organisation. They are not the only ones to do this within this industry in Aus unfortunately.

  6. I think the point being made is Dreamworld should have a future. Ardent should not.

  7. VRTP pretty much did the same thing. They actively told people to go look for other jobs. Many didn't return. Hence rides down and food outlets not all open at all properties (Yes I know it is not a busy time of the year). Yes, the first weekend was busy. But that was people wanting to do something after being in self isolation. So what part of the guest experience is actually going to be seriously affected?. A company can operate the same with extra staff or not. You budget for it and made amendments in daily operations for this to occur. It is rather simple.

  9. To be fair Irvine Ondrey Engineering has a post recently describing how they did almost a completely commissioning remotely for a recent project and only spent a day or so onsite as a result. So is possible. It’s really only verifying wiring and code anyway.

  10. Maybe the engineers don’t want to come over here and quarantine for 2 weeks before doing work??

  11. The 'break it up and sell off the pieces' mentality isn't the status quo anymore. As @CaptainLazerGuns suggested above, its more a case of acquiring something that is liquid capital poor, leverage against the asset to obtain financing to improve the product, and then flip it for more than you bought it for. There are pump-and-dump book shuffling, such as we saw with Dick Smith, where they over extended the value by some creative bookkeeping, but due to the public nature of that particular implosion, that method won't escape due diligence checks from buyers in the future. Anyone claiming that Ardent received funds of $70 Million simply because they're potentially going to be fined $4.5 Million needs to go back to third grade mathematics.

  12. Enjoyed a fun and relaxing day today at PC. Don’t think numbers would have been above 100 in the time I was there, Only noticeable impacts from covid were social distancing in the seated show areas (1 row gap), no buffet component with meals (as expected), no damper to share (self explanatory) and all seats and contacts points wiped down after every cycle of the tractor ride. oh, and the marmoset says hello
