I mean it's not like it's the first time Gumbuya and Dreamworld have made a deal. If Dreamworld are building 'King Claw' maybe they've bought the original claw? (Maybe they can call it Project 1?)4 points

Though that would somewhat recategorize The Claw, and therefore could be something Dreamworld wished to avoid, the most likely reason is that Intamin just doesn't make a fully inverting Gyro Swing (and their closest ride to it is the well-documented Twin Hammer). Flat rides (at least those here in AUS) should focus on being accommodating, reliable, efficient, & comfortable above all else IMO. Leave marquee record-breakers/unique concepts to the coasters, and let the flats be intermediary people eaters.3 points

So does this mean Gumbaya have bought the claw?3 points

Makes sense why there hasn't been any posts on their/local news's behalf, despite Greg Yong literally being in Europe for the announcement. Whatever it is, so long as it's themed at least to the same level of OG Claw (and, personally, that it hopefully isn't grey), I'm excited. Even without the added height, OTSLs are already a major enough upgrade IMO.2 points

Pretty sure this could have just been posted in the existing thread2 points

LOL, Wash your mouth out! I've done the Beast, I've done the Zamperla Giga Discovery, I've done the Intamin and the Intamin one is in an entirely different league. See, the issue with these types of rides from cheaper manufacturers like Zamplera and KMG is that they put underpowered motors in the swing, so a great deal of the ride cycle is spent simply getting to full height. On the KMG it takes 1:30. The Giga Discovery takes close to 2:00 But the Intamin? 45 seconds. Its like being strapped to a rocket at the start. Intamin know where to push it when it comes to intensity. and then at the top of each swing, the motors are actively pushing back in reverse, and forcing you downwards, so you get enhanced airtime in the same way Batwing drops down "faster than gravity". More of the time is spent on the fun part...swinging beyond vertical, and less on the crap part....low speed nauseating swings. And the rotation speed is perfect. Its not pretending to be an eggbeater like the Beast. And there are no OTSRs. Cant wait to have one down the road.1 point

I think we're all missing the point here... If the earth is truly round.. why are they called "Flat" rides? /s1 point

yet absolutely no one cares about this fact, apart from, you. The GP don't, hell 99% of them wouldnt even know what Beast is, let alone it's height or where they could ride it next.1 point

What fanfare are you speaking of? because to this end, there has been none. Its just chatter on a theme park forum. it's 2m shorter than Beast, which in the grand scheme of things is nothing, and Beast is a travelling ride so isn't even included in records for permanent installations at theme parks. 2m of height doesn't change whether something is "premiere" or not. The massive jump in height will already alienate some riders that currently enjoy Claw - which is an immensely popular attraction. Add a full inversion to it and you are then moving from a moderate to high thrill ride, and scaring away a hell of a lot of riders. I think the decision not to go full loop is the absolute correct one in this case.1 point

if you’re over 5’10, the bulky Zamperla restraints are a no go and it’s very restricting on riders, more so then the current restraints. King Claw will definitely be superior then anything they could’ve gotten from Zamperla.1 point

All this fanfare for a Pendulum ride that still doesn’t swing as high as The Beast…. They should have gone real big and went with Zamperla. Classic Dreamworld.1 point

Looks like the new restraint system will be more accommodating - looks like a waist only harness....1 point

If you’re curious about other intamin gyros with similar stats, here is what we can expect (same stats as king claw)1 point

The room height above the turntable element (looks like the main show room) looks impressive. Fingers crossed, this room is more than, fake smoke and flashing lights.1 point

@New display name so you’re telling me, the Village Roadshow theme parks aren’t ’world class’ like we’ve been told countless times over the last decade?1 point

Fingers crossed it’s some sort of water coaster to replace Motorcoaster, that would directly tie in with the Jungle theme1 point

We are planning a trip this year and the one thing we have learned is that you need to plan and research a LOT. I'm hearing you about it not being a park trip, so while it'll be hard for most folk here to not fall back to 'do this park too!' i'll try and balance things out a bit... First, a couple of things to echo - if you do Disney, DisneySea should be the priority. You should still spend 2 days there minimum, but if you only have one, spend it at Sea. We have 3 weeks, and we've already put down 2 days in each park. But don't not go just because people have said you need more time there. A little time is enough to show you if those people were right, and whether you want to go back again later for a better experience. Be prepared to be flexible. A lot of things sell out early (including express passes) and in Disney's case - vacation package guests, and then hotel guests, get first dibs on pretty much everything. A lot can be sold out so have alternative options if something isn't available. Know the dates things are made available - As an example, Universal passes are dropped around 2 months out. Disney usually drops hotels & vacation packages 3 months out, but in our case they dropped the packages early due to the opening of fantasy springs. This sort of thing drops at a set time of day, and some of the websites drop from too much traffic \ place you in a queue. (We waited in the queue for 11 hours to secure a Fantasy Springs package, but that's not the average experience). Even experiences like Shibuya Sky, some of the Team Lab experiences drop tickets a certain time out, and there is a rush to get all the best spots early. You might still find tickets closer to the day, but they may not be at an ideal time and you'll find yourself compromising things if you haven't planned. ESPECIALLY because you're planning to go in Sakura season - you should get a good idea of your itinerary NOW and so that you're ready to book accommodations as soon as they're available for your dates (usually 12 months out). You'll also want to be researching all of the attractions you want to do, though with two years before you go there are going to be plenty of changes in that time, so again, be flexible) Transport. iPhones these days can add an IC card like Suica for general public transport. If you're doing a lot of back and forth between cities, consider whether the JR pass will work, but note that it had a huge price increase last year and you really have to do a lot of long distance shinkansen to make it worthwhile. We're hitting Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Miyajima, Nara, Nagoya, Hakone and then back to Tokyo, so for us it works - but if you're just hitting the golden triangle, (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto) it generally isn't worth it. Many of our stops don't include parks, so may be closer to the itinerary you're looking for. Youtube is your best friend. The amount of things we've found, learned and researched by watching youtube is mind blowing. There is so much to learn, and we're still making tweaks to our itinerary based on updated info from the latest videos. We've watched a lot of different channels, but the ones that ended up in our subs were: For the bigger parks, TDR Explorer is really informative. For getting around (especially as a family), Kensho Quest has been really good For just seeing what a place \ attraction looks like without much waffle, channels like ITSUKA JAPAN provide walkthroughs Americans documenting their travels (which is great as you learn lessons from them as a result) check out Ordinary Adventures or Tales from our Pocket Hints and tips about everything japan from a local guy starting his own tour guide \ travel company - HARBLIFE Hints and tips about everything japan from a local - TOKYO KENCHAN Hints and tips about everything japan from an american guy who does travel videos everywhere - YELLOW PRODUCTIONS Good japanese advice from a westerner (UK) living and working in japan (but mixed in with silly video collaborations made with friends - Abroad in Japan (he's also written several books under the same name)1 point
