  1. ...except that the area is no longer themed to the Australian gold rush period (1850's). Since 2011, 'Gold Rush' is just the name of the town. The town is now a timber town currently in the post-1887 period 'many years' after 1887. No specific year. Vintage Model T Ford cars are classified as being produced between 1919 & 1930. If anything, DW need to update the area's name at the minimum to remove the Australian gold rush/1850's time period association. Given there is no specific end date for the currently themed time period, Vintage Cars would be fine. New technology has arrived in the town - that is all.
  2. I have little knowledge on Doctor Who but I know the Tardis is a telephone box that travels through time - that should be sufficient knowledge for me to go on a Tardis-themed ride, right? Whilst Doctor Who is not exactly mainstream in Australia, at least Australians have heard of it. I had little knowledge on these franchises/people when I first visited their themed rides/attractions on the Gold Coast...: Lethal Weapon The Matrix Police Academy Big Brother A few Nickelodeon franchises Cartoon Network Mick Doohan ...but that did not stop me from going to their themed rides/attractions. At least the narratives of the rides/attractions are comprehensible to the general public who at least can recall the brand names of the franchises featured in the rides/attractions at a minimum (a little bit of knowledge on the franchise would help a bit), it should be fine. Just don't make the ride/attractions' narratives too detailed. To use the Doctor Who-themed restaurant example, if fish fingers & custard were the only menu option, I wouldn't know the significance of it and it would likely make me as well as other non-Whovians to go explore other food outlets but if it was 1 menu item out of many, the general public would be more likely to eat there while Whovians would purchase fish fingers & custard to make the most of the Doctor Who experience. It's simply a balance between not confusing non-fans & keeping the ride/attraction true to the franchise for the fans provided the IP has, at least, significant brand recall and for the theme park, the benefit of increasing visitation due to the new ride/attraction and Doctor Who, I believe, has a strong enough fan base in Australia to provide a modest increase in visitation. If a survey showed most Australians have never heard of Doctor Who then a Doctor Who themed area would definitely be a no.
  3. I think they were removed when Dreamworks Experience was under construction. The entrance to the Madagascar Madness area of the Dreamworks Experience replaced it.
  4. They did fairly well actually in getting (social) media coverage: 2 Facebook Live streams reaching 24,000 people (48,000 people in total) Numerous lengthy articles in domestic & international news publications (reaching millions of readers) Numerous television news stories both in QLD & interstate (reaching millions of viewers) The media just didn't take their side instead mainly focusing on their method of protest & the crowd's reaction. Looking at their Facebook page, whilst it was a protest featuring multiple protest groups (there was at least 2 protest groups participating), the main protest group (Justice For Captives) are relatively new - only formed a few weeks ago so their main aim of the protest wasn't really to "spread their propaganda" but to begin a debate, which they seem to have been successful at given the media coverage. Before the Affinity protest yesterday, it seems they visited the Penguin Encounter exhibit and were concerned at the exhibit's design. They notified SW of their concern & the next day, went back to SW, revisited the Penguin Encounter exhibit to find - to their surprise - that their concerns were not addressed & that the exhibit had less ice than the previous day. Then they went to Dolphin Beach, where they were concerned about the lack of shade for the dolphins. Eventually, this happened: SW's GM tweeted about yesterday's Affinity protest and they, indirectly, responded back via Facebook: Judging from this Facebook comment on a post they made about The Age's news article on the Affinity protest, it seems they do anticipate doing another major protest at SW in the future.
  5. @Cactus_Matt - I just found this: Judging from that last sentence, is this the show you are referring to?:
  6. Some other scheduled maintenance that has not been posted: Sea World: Sky Climb - 29/03/17 Dreamworld: FlowRider - 17/07/2017 - 07/08/2017
  7. @Cactus_Matt, do you mean this quote in last Thursday's Gold Coast Bulletin article about MW's current & future projects?: By the way @Smeg, I figured out that you are counting down to your predicted announcement date.
  8. @downunder, for your information, I was aware you did not start this thread and I did read the 'lost context' in the '2017 Movie World roller coaster' topic before posting my previous post in this topic.
  9. It's already been delayed once @Cactus_Matt so technically, it is still delayed (by 6 months at that too) & what 'pre-announcement announcement'? With @Smeg's announcement countdown too, did I miss something? Giga coasters have to be full-circuit.
  10. I never started - it clearly was @downunder's opinion once they answered the question on how it is a "punishment" but like what @Theme Park Girl said, they should have emphasised it was a personal opinion in their original post for clarity as it is an odd thing to say about Australia's biggest theme park on an Australian theme park internet forum.
  11. From The Brisbane Times: Here is the Facebook Live stream they made of the protest (protest begins at around the 03:20 mark):
  12. I was just pointing it out because, to me, it sounded like @joz was thinking it was a new decision made after the Thunder River Rapids incident (and DW's re-opening) due to less than normal international tourist group visitation that was an effect of DW's 6 week closure.
  13. The title of this new Our World Of The Dolphin presentation, I think, may be seen as a bit misleading (that is, just another Affinity). Unlike Affinity, which is about the dolphin & their relationship with humans, I think this new presentation is more about the Sea World Research & Rescue Foundation & it's work in/with dolphins hence 'Our World Of The Dolphin'. I think I remember the pyramid being formed from the bridge & along the eastern lake foreshore until they reached in front of the seating area. That was sometime in the mid to late 2000's. Most likely in Ski Challenge?
  14. I think Stage 2 of Dreamworld Corroboree had been planned prior to the Thunder River Rapids incident occurring, @joz. Ardent Leisure's full year results presentation last August did say:
  15. Yeah, I did not notice that - I thought it was just for the opening day. Thanks for pointing that out.
  16. Various news articles published it after the Thunder River Rapids incident, @reanimated35.
  17. Dreamworld's capacity is 10,000 so depending on how they operate (let more people in after some exit or no entry once 10,000 enter), there's the possibility 4,000 people did not enter DW at all.
  18. Didn't Zumer open in 1982 when Country Fair formally opened? As an opening day park map (which list rides/attractions that did not open until 1982) does not even list Zumer & the park map @YLFATEEKS linked to is a 1982 park map (though I do agree the ride they refer to in that park map is Zumer). This 1983 park map also shows the Enterprise & Zumer were in separate locations so there was enough room for a temporary Supertrooper to be placed there in the park's 1st year of operation.
  19. It does not bother me in the end if they get rid of the current timber town theming or not but I would prefer if the current theme remained and I think keeping it will be fine. It's just a theme and enough of the theming remains to still be considered a 'town'. The Thunder River Rapids site doesn't have to be re-built as a new 'town expansion' - it could be the town's outskirts. Like the suggestion I made to bring the Vintage Cars there, Vintage Cars were made in roughly the same time period & it could be themed to a winding scenic drive outside of the town. The media did make a misjudgement on some of the theming thinking it was unmaintained buildings but I think you can still theme an area of a theme park to an 1890's timber town without using rusted corrugated iron as part of the theming.
  20. Nice to hear about Wonderland History's reaction. Firstly, this was the only time that I haven't posted the source intentionally so stop making a huge drama over it - I was always going to post the source when the hypercoaster pieces arrived anyway. If the '2017 Movie World roller coaster' topic was actually on-topic in the past week or so, I wouldn't have withheld the source temporarily. I don't - only when I think it's a topic suitable for a poll. The number of votes made in a poll I find usually outnumbers the number of posts made on a non-poll topic's first day anyway. If anything, to me, it adds to the discussion and allows everyone to see clearly the opinion of all forum members. I'm not stopping people from replying - if they don't want to add detail comment, that's their choice. A poll also prevents pointless short posts like 'yes' or 'no'. I only remind people of 'predictions' when firstly, they ask forum members when/what they think something will occur & secondly, when they have clearly forgotten or not yet read already confirmed or very 'educated guessed' information (like, for the latter, when hypercoaster track pieces will be installed). Had I didn't post that guess timetable, imagine how many more times we would have seen posts saying "When will the track be installed?" over the past 4 month period. I only made that guess timetable to prevent that from happening as best as possible. And I haven't pointed out to anyone that my predictions were accurate if they did become accurate. The linking of old posts is because firstly, to avoid me reposting the whole post and secondly, to provide a link for readers to provide background on my post if they haven't read those posts yet. I also don't have several theories for 1 future event. I always have 1 theory for each but they will vary over time when new information is released. The hypercoaster timeline, so far, is still nearly accurate and I clearly said it was only "an indicative guide". The only things confirmed as incorrect are the opening date (this wasn't my guess but based on the overall opinion of the forum at the time of posting), which I updated the timeline for as well as the construction fencing advertising (1 month ahead). Track installation I wrote would start in late-January. It has only been a week since then & forum members have since speculated that track installation is imminent due to the caps on the footings being removed. For an installation period that I'd estimated to last until mid-May, 1 week difference is not that much of a mistake so far & for all I know, the removal of the footing caps could be considered the 'unofficial beginning' of the track installation period too. As for the track/support pieces arriving, which I put as November/December, for all I know, they could have been hidden in the BOH areas of the Entertainment Road property or somewhere completely external to that property. Also, why consider my guess timeline true when I've clearly said it is a guess based on SE? Lastly, don't compare me to a "First!!!!" poster - the forum's equivalent to that is someone who makes the first reply to a topic & brags about that fact.
  21. The same has what I'd suggested in this pre-existing topic on this. But also: Keep Buzzsaw General Store, Buzzsaw Photos, the Shooting Gallery & Old Time Family Photos (the latter two being relocated). Remove the Skylink Charlift completely. Remove the Eureka Mountain Mine Ride completely unless it can be restored & begin operations again without Thunder River Rapids underneath it. If it can be restored/begin operations again, update the Town Of Gold Rush theming to show that the 'mine' is no longer for sale or that the 'mine' has recommenced operations.
  22. Mack Rides's hypercoaster webpage states the maximum gradient of the lift hill will be 45 degrees, which is the angle I based those 'artist impressions' I made on, if looking at those again helps too in making a more accurate guess of the lift hill gradient. Lewa Adventure's Mack Rides hypercoaster lift hill, correct me if I'm wrong, is 45 degrees roughly too.
  23. This newspaper article indicates that Illuminanza wasn't a 'one-off' - it went daily for about a month plus this other newspaper article indicates Illuminanza returned for a near month-long period to celebrate MW's 3rd birthday in 1994.
  24. Dreamworld CEO, Craig Davidson, did a 14-minute interview on ABC Gold Coast radio (97.1FM) yesterday: Some key points/quotes: "The only ride that hasn't come through that (safety audit process) is because we're.working on an annual shutdown of the ride is the Wipeout ride" "We're starting to see (attendance) numbers return to some sort of normality post-those rides coming back online" "I think Dreamworld absolutely has a future" "We've been fantastically surprised by the popularity of LEGO as it opened" "We are diverse and I think we have to continue to diversify the offering of the park" "We'll complete Stage 2 Of Dreamworld Corroboree. That completes that whole area this year so that will be open sometime later this year" "We'll start that (Thunder River Rapids decommissioning) process now now that we've gotten through the holiday period" "There's been many thoughts around what it (Thunder River Rapids replacement) could be but for the minute, what we'll do is fully decommission the ride and then we'll make a decision as to what we do with that space so that's the 1st step. We'll commence that soon" "The (Thunder River Rapids) ride is not operating and elements of it have been decommissioned and we'll continue that process now so there is no access to that area of the park obviously but we'll go through that in a methodical way and do it the right way" "I mentioned entertainment earlier and it's been a really good outcome in terms of the change to the park operations since we haven't had some of the thrill rides operating" "We've had fantastic feedback from customers in the park and from our guests about that change (entertainment) and we'll continue to do that" "Frankly, that (revenue) is the least of our worries" "In fact, Australia Day we actually had a larger crowd in the park than the same day last year on Australia Day so there's some really positive signs coming through" "Our weekend trade is coming back to some sort of normality" "No, we haven't (let staff go due to revenue loss) and look, we managed the staff to the numbers of guests in park obviously" Just a thought - Does anyone think Stage 2 Of Dreamworld Corroboree could be the reason the Vintage Cars is closed?
