  1. True regarding the hotel theming (given DC Comics seems pretty permanent at MW, maybe DC Comics has the highest chance then of any possible hotel theming?) Regarding TopGolf, ok. There was one thing that I didn't check regarding TopGolf and that was comparing it's stated size to the actual site on Google Maps: I measured 15 acres and it is huge - it is pretty much the whole site I drew on for my guess except for the lake, MW, the western side of the lake & the link to AOS. The dirt car park across the road from AOS is too small for the entire TopGolf site & the field next to that dirt car park (where I put it in my guess) is too small for it either. TopGolf's main building (65,000 square foot = less than 2 acres) would have to take up both the 2 previously mentioned sites at least (if it is to be located at the southern end). And without a doubt, it would need to have one end of the entire TopGolf venue in the rollercoaster construction site. The size of the 1st TopGolf in the USA (Alexandria) is 8 acres for comparison (this includes additional parts of the site but excludes their car park, mini golf area & an adjunct but separately owned restaurant). I've overlayed the 8 acre Alexandria TopGolf site (according to scale) onto the Entertainment Road site for comparison:
  2. I have always had an interest in the Gold Coast's theme parks but as I'm rarely there, I find little point in discussing redevelopments on Parkz unless something extremely major (like MW's new rollercoaster) is being built/announced. And don't worry, I'm trying to keep up - I check as many sources that I can find/remember prior to making a post. Once everything is announced, I'm definitely back on track. If there is a source you can link me to regarding TopGolf's location, that would be great. I had considered all that but natural lighting didn't occur to me - good point. If it ends up being MW's actual car park (which seems to me now the most likeliest place), I'd have to say it would be at the back half of the overflow grass car park. It would make that car park dual-use (overflow/hotel) as well as permanent rather than grass. The hotel car park without a doubt would also include a basement carpark. One reason why I thought it would be near the outdoor tank was because why have a hotel in front of 1 of the theme parks when there is another (& other attractions) next door? Easy access to 1 but difficult access to the others (unless they built or operated some sort of transportation link between them all). If no transportation link, wouldn't a centralised approach seem more appropriate? Random thought - It would be cool if MW themed the hotel to like Scooby Island from Scooby-Doo or something else movie-themed. I looked at some photos on TopGolf's website before publishing my post with my guess & I think they vary in size from large to small. I've also found that satellite images distort the sizes of lots - a ground point of view shows the true size so it may look small on a satellite image but go there in person & it looks large. The hotel hasn't been formally announced yet (I speculated either a January/March 2017 announcement). TopGolf was announced only in June & construction was due to start on that around September (coincidentally the rollercoaster's footing placement begun the same time too). We all expected a rollercoaster announcement around mid-August but it didn't eventuate (clearly due to a delay of some kind) so mid-November now looks like the time period with the most chance of having an announcement for the rollercoaster. So in all cases, announcements were planned prior to construction beginning (but the rollercoaster one had a delay). Also When I said "(pure guess except the part going over the TopGolf building)", I meant "(purely random except the part going over the TopGolf building, which is a definite guess)". I forgot to change that when making that post.
  3. Those plans I don't think went to Council @AlexB as The Taipan was in a separate development application to Kangaroo Island. Oh ok - Yeah, as Banjo's Billabong is part of Kangaroo Island, it's development application did cause delays due to the colours but I think it was more to do with the large tube slides on the hillside (like Funnel Web). Banjo's Billabong will eventually be hidden by tall trees etc. due to it being on a flat terrain so colours aren't much of a concern as natural trees will keep the landscape looking, well, natural.
  4. Well I did read reports that the hotel would be built on 'a MW car park' and I believe we all presume the 'lakeside' precinct refers to the swamp next door. Whilst I don't think the hotel would be built on MW's main car park or the grass overflow car park, I thought the dirt car park across the road from AOS would be a likely location for the hotel. This is how I currently imagined this huge development (colour code below) Brown - Footpaths (with bush trees planted on approach to AOS) Light Red - New entrance of AOS and small AOS box office/retail outlet on road's opposite side - this allows a 'link' to the lakeside/entertainment precinct & hotel, which I coloured as below... Dark Purple - Multi-storey hotel with basement parking & ground floor indoor entertainment/retail mall (black lines indicate main mall) Grey - Roads (with white zebra crossings)/TopGolf staff car park/hotel reception driveway (with green garden in front)/hotel basement carpark entrance (with white directional arrow) Light Purple - Retail shopfronts on hotel's ground floor exterior Dark Blue - Lake Light Yellow - Outdoor seating near lake Dark Green - TopGolf building Light Green - Top Golf driving ranges with surrounding netting (in grey) Bright Yellow - Rollercoaster track (pure guess except the part going over the TopGolf building) Black - Rollercoaster station building Dark Red - MW extension to new rollercoaster, Possible MW extension to new gate connected to lakeside precinct & to rollercoaster observation deck on lake's edge Bright Orange - If new gate, possible new MW retail outlets/guest services Light Orange - Possible extension of lakeside footpaths to connect to MW Dark Grey Blue - Possible extension of retail outlets in lakeside precinct Light Blue - Possible extra retail outlets if extension built Pink - Stage/amphitheatre (also adjoining light blue section). If extension to MW built, footpath instead I think the show will be designed with a pure and dedicated focus on the interests of foreign tourists this time (instead of also catering to city tourists/locals). I'll guess the show will be designed to last 3 years at a minimum - late 2016 to 2019.
  5. @Luke, Jamberoo's master plan, Kangaroo Island, was designed about a decade ago (but only begun construction 3 years ago) and was mainly built around improving capacity so I don't think the sudden decision to swap the Behemoth Bowl with a Tornado was due to a sudden lack of capacity. Jamberoo has at least another 5 rides/attractions it plans to install and all but one of them would easily have met any sudden capacity deficiencies. The boss of Jamberoo once said that each stage of Kangaroo Island would only occur if increases in attendances occurred. But your theory gave me the thought of another theory - that it was built to compete massively against Wet'n'Wild Sydney. Since Wet'n'Wild Sydney opened in late 2013, there has been a slowly building trend of popularity heading back to Jamberoo (you have to remember one of Jamberoo's main target markets is Western Sydney where Wet 'n' Wild Sydney is located) due to many reasons - Jamberoo has free parking, shade, the scenery/good park design, decent theming, the fact you're allowed to bring in food while Wet 'n' Wild Sydney has paid parking, little to no theming, poor park design/landscaping, the fact you can't bring in food and originally didn't have shade. I am not sure but there is a chance that ride/attraction queues and Sydney's traffic may be 2 other factors to the ones I listed above. If you compare both parks' 'major' additions for the 2016/2017 season, you can see a distinct difference - a $5 million world-1st ride at Jamberoo while Wet 'n' Wild Sydney has Dinosaur Lagoon, which is essentially just dinosaur statues added around Boomerang Bay, their lazy river. The 'world-1st' tag is good publicity globally (even if it is just 2 old & very similar ride types joined together). Even if it is another Tornado at Jamberoo, it comes down to this - what would attract your attention more? A world-1st ride or dinosaur statues? Jamberoo has no slide towers but the colours of the Kangaroo Island expansions did cause a lengthy delay in Council approval of 5 years (2006-2011). The Perfect Storm, however, was a modification made in 2015 to those expansions and that only took just over a month to get Council approval - highly likely due to the fact, the colours chosen were in the originally approved plans so no need to worry over them. Like you said, the theme of The Perfect Storm is an additional reason why they chose those colours for that ride too.
  6. True @AlexB hence I why I think we all should "wait & see". Though, like I said, more footings would give us more confirmation on the rollercoaster's track layout. Interesting to see that comparison to SE too. It makes more sense with the scale on the NearMap satellite image. I agree - that's why on the satellite image I drew on, I only put 3 banked corners - the rest could literally be anything.
  7. Seems like the current AOS show is ending very shortly with AOS social media staff saying "Please stay tuned to this page for all announcements. We have something exciting coming to Australian Outback Spectacular very soon". Whilst it currently is unlikely, with all the development only metres away with the hotel, lakeside/entertainment precinct & MW's new rollercoaster, does anyone think it is linked somehow or is it just a coincidence? There obviously will be a new show but what are the chances of redevelopment of the AOS show building so it is linked to the hotel & lakeside/entertainment precinct? It would also allow it to have a refurbishment before the 2018 Commonwealth Games. All speculation at this stage but with a possible major MW announcement in the next month, the timing is a bit coincidental.
  8. I think a helix turns more than 180 degrees whilst moving either up or down & whilst there might be some helices in the rollercoaster, so far I can't see any - only banked corners. I was thinking that as a possibility but thought there would have to be more footings nearby before that could be confirmed. All the current footings seem too far away. We'll just have to wait & see. The rest of what you said I agree with - I thought too that the one closest to the road could be some sort of sign if it ends up being clearly separate from the rollercoaster footings.
  9. Understood you but am not sure exactly what you were trying to point out in the photos but anyway, to answer your question, yes - it was on the plans: In case you're thinking it, regardless if the final large Tornado of The Perfect Storm was enclosed or not on the ride's opening day, it would still be safe for operation - as long as Jamberoo didn't rush too much on other aspects of it's construction to the point that visitor safety was a lower priority to revenue...but I'm sure that would never be the case.
  10. I pointed out in the 'Arkham Asylum - VR coaster at Movie World' topic that VR Coaster did in fact do the VR for AA. You all may recall that I posted this in mid-September: The only way to figure out if Movie World is associated with this is if someone can figure out how many rollercoasters Mack Rides are manufacturing. If 2 are currently scheduled for completion in the timeframe given above & Movie World's one of those, Movie World's rollercoaster could be one of those designed specifically for virtual reality. Given VR Coaster did AA, does this make it more likely that MW might have been talking with them to do 2 projects - AA plus the new rollercoaster - a potential 'pure VR' coaster - with Mack Rides? Also, regarding the construction site, I thought it looked like a seahorse : But seriously, this is what I can make of the construction site on NearMaps: Mainly, all I can gather from the construction site is the possibility of at least 3 banked corners, which I coloured in yellow - I think everyone figured that part out already though lol It seemed pretty obvious after all. Any fencing/boundaries are in black while any other noticeable lines are in different colours. I think the light blue line is a pipe while the purple lines are definitely of pegs/strings etc. If more NearMaps images are released with more footings in sight, I might be able to figure out more of a rollercoaster track layout with greater confidence. I am curious what are the two things I circled in blue are though? The one closest to MW's car park road looks like it is for a footing but it is heaps far away from all the other footings & has trees on either side of it?
  11. VR Coaster definitely did do the VR on AA as they added AA to the listing in their showreel:
  12. Even though it is an extremely well themed & coloured area, judging from the NearMap images, the DC Comics Super-Villians Unleashed area does look like it lacks colour from an aerial point of view. Doomsday Destroyer though is clearly well coloured from an aerial point of view but, like I've said, doesn't have much colour on the park map so I think they need to add more green to it on the park map. @AlexB, does NearMaps show the Lego Store construction site at Dreamworld?
  13. It is great to see that the 2nd small Tornado was enclosed for The Perfect Storm's opening - that leaves only the large Tornado to still be enclosed. You all should see the comments on the Illawarra Mercury's Facebook post of their article on The Perfect Storm. There are a lot of people saying "just looks like Funnel Web" etc - which is the exact reaction we were all expecting as a 1st impression. The Illawarra Mercury tried to point out the differences - that it has '3 giant funnels' (which is a clear difference but all 3 aren't 'giant') & that it is longer (again, true but irrelevant as a difference - it is only 10 metres longer). I think they could but it would depend on whether a park could finance/install such a large ride. Funnel Web's paintwork is not 'run down' - it is a lighter colour scheme. The Perfect Storm has a darker colour scheme. I've noticed a few people have been getting confused between the two. Currently, with the framework of The Perfect Storm's large Tornado unthemed, the frameworks of the large Tornadoes do make them look very similar. There are a few obvious differences though (when construction is complete): The Perfect Storm has 2 smaller Tornadoes while Funnel Web has a few extra corners/helices. The Perfect Storm has enclosed Tornadoes while Funnel Web does not. The Perfect Storm has special effects while Funnel Web does not. The Perfect Storm's framework of its large Tornado will have debris theming placed on it whilst Funnel Web has a world-record breaking Funnel Web spider sculpture next to its' large Tornado. When the framework of The Perfect Storm's large Tornado is themed, the 2 rides should look more distinct - one themed as a Tornado carrying debris while the other themed as a Funnel Web spider hanging onto it's web (The framework of Funnel Web's large Tornado acts as a web). Like I've pointed out before to a few forum members, according to Jamberoo...:
  14. I was comparing it to the 1st Tornado in the same shot and from that angle, they both look very similar - too close for me to call. They had similar-looking parts and so I didn't want to confirm it in case it was an optical illusion from the angle they were filming from.
  15. If anyone is interested, there is a post on Sea World's Facebook page that describes the Storm Coaster breakdown evacuation/attempted re-start.
  16. Remember, it is only a guess based on SE. It has already taken 2 and a third months to prepare the site (July, August & early September) for the new rollercoaster & we've spent two-thirds of 1 month (approx. 20 days during September) watching the 1st footings being placed. And that's just the area next to the MW car park entrance sign - according to the satellite images recently posted, they still got the area next to Justice League: Alien Invasion 4D & Green Lantern to do, the area alongside Entertainment Road as well as the remaining area around MW's car park road. We don't know even know yet if there are more footings to be placed where there are already footings - it depends on the complexity of the track layout. Regarding cost, SE cost AUD$16 million (Note: This includes non-track costs) so based on a 1.9km track length for the new rollercoaster, that would mean a price of AUD$50 million (adjusted for inflation too) for this new rollercoaster. Again, remember that price would include non-track costs such as landscaping, theming, footpaths, amenities etc - not the rollercoaster alone. Also, note this quote from the CEO of VRTP: Does anyone know what the most expensive ride/attraction addition in Australia has been thus far? WWF rings a bell but I think I might be wrong... To be a little more flexible regarding track length, maybe a 1.52km (if 4 month track installation) to 2.28km (if 6 month track installation) track length. 1.9km if a 5 month track installation which is my main guess. We went all through that last week. Don't worry about TopGolf.
  17. The Perfect Storm had it's soft opening on the 1st day of the 2016/2017 season (24th September) but it had it's official opening today I believe as the Illawarra Mercury has finally published an article about the world-1st ride. The article features 5 images & a video of The Perfect Storm in operation as well as an image of The Perfect Storm's logo. But I got disappointing news - Despite soft opening on the opening day of the 2016/2017 season, like I highly suspected, construction was indeed running behind schedule (but enough to be operational). This means not only theming is uncompleted but the whole final large Tornado is still open & without special effects. I can't confirm if the 2nd small Tornado is enclosed or not yet based on the photos/videos I've seen so far. The 1st small Tornado was always intended to be open. The Illawarra Mercury reports "...some minor cosmetic works still to be completed". If they are referring to the enclosing of the Tornadoes instead of the theming, if anything, they are not 'minor' works - they add pretty significantly to the ride experience. So unless Jamberoo can finish construction on the weekdays it is closed on, there is a slight chance the full experience of The Perfect Storm might not be ready until December 2016. If not, April 2017 and the worst case (and I think probably most likely) scenario, September 2017. Maybe someone who knows the construction process of enclosed Tornadoes/Tantrum Alleys better might be able to confirm how easy it is for Jamberoo to finish building The Perfect Storm? Also, in the Illawarra Mercury's video, it mentions at the end "Even a house is in the storm's crasp" referring to the still under construction small tubes shelter. Maybe they got word from Park management that the small tubes shelters will indeed be themed to a rusted corrugated galvanised iron-roofed wooden building (with a concrete chimney) like I speculated above.
  18. Did you notice my post, @reanimated35? I believe it is the official report but no one has responded to my initial post to verify my opinion:
  19. Based on what VRTP have said so far, we're currently expecting an announcement no later than the 20th November 2016.
  20. ^Just to add to my rollercoaster length guess above^ 1.9km is far more realistic than the 4km length rumour from about a week ago (which was extremely unlikely to be true given, for starters, it is nearly twice the length of the world's longest steel rollercoaster) and puts it up with California Screamin' length wise (California Screamin' covers less square metres than MW's new rollercoaster construction site too).
  21. Because members are very eager for new developments on this new rollercoaster, I've just quickly made a 'timetable' based on how construction occurred with SE. SE was constructed over 330 days (from date of Movie Magic Special Effects Show's closure) while this new rollercoaster is over a 550 day period approximately (assuming 26/12/2017 opening & taken from 01/07/2016) . Here is how SE was constructed: 20 December 2004 - 'Superman themed' rollercoaster announced 30 January 2005 to late March 2005 (approx.) - Movie Magic Special Effects Show Closure/Demolition Early April 2005 (approx.) to late July 2005 (45%) - Site preparation/footings placed Early August 2005 to early October 2005 (26%) - Track installation Early October 2005 to 26 December 2005 (32%) - Theming/Landscaping 26 December 2005 - Opening Note: Percentages are taken from 01/04/2005 to 26/12/2005 and overlap. This is my guess timetable for the new rollercoaster. This is assuming the rollercoaster opens on Boxing Day 2017: Early July 2016 to early March 2017 (45%) - Site preparation/footing placement Mid-November 2016 - Currently most likely time period for rollercoaster announcement Early March to late July 2017 (26%) - Track installation Late July 2017 to 26 December 2017 (32%) - Theming/landscaping 26 December 2017 - Opening Note: Percentages are taken from 01/07/2016 to 26/12/2017 and overlap. Note: Unlike in the SE timetable, ride/attraction closure/demolition isn't included in the 2017 rollercoaster timetable as no rides/attractions were closed to make way for this new rollercoaster. Every project is different so please remember, this is just an indicative guide and all time periods are approximate. So if this is a Boxing Day opening, this is a massive coaster and the footings placement will take a very long time (if this timetable eventually proves to be roughly accurate). Just did a quick guess calculation on the length of the new rollercoaster using the time periods for track installation in the timetables above plus the length of SE. The guess results in an approximately 1.9km long rollercoaster.
  22. Unsure if this is the right topic or the same water park being discussed here (Can someone verify?) but: The International Association Of Amusement Parks & Attractions' Funworld Magazine reports:
  23. I think this was a pretty good confirmation it is a Mack coaster:
  24. I just thought the 'present status' of the ride's future was that they will re-open it if they can & the Facebook comment reinforces that again. The keyword being 'if' in both that sentence & DW's Facebook comment. 'If' indicates either demolition or re-opening. Maybe I worded it wrong or something but I do agree with you.
  25. I had that thought but wasn't sure which meaning was right.
