  1. Management of the Gold Coast theme parks are known to read these forums especially the General Manager of Warner Brothers. Movie World!
  2. The Perfect Storm did open today!: Judging from the video, it looks like they still got to install theming on the Tornado portion & construct the small tubes shelter.
  3. Wet 'N' Wild Sydney opens tomorrow for it's 2016/2017 season. Like I was highly expecting, Dinosaur Lagoon is just dinosaur statues placed around Boomerang Bay: Wet 'n' Wild Sydney is having an 'opening celebration' over the weekend to celebrate the new season with Havana Brown performing on Saturday & Will Sparks performing on Sunday. Also, Weekend Today will be broadcasting live from the park on Sunday. If you want to be there while they go on the air, you can register here.
  4. Given there are 3 applications that refer to 'Stage 1', I assume they all refer to the same thing - that is, hotel, new attraction (Top Golf) and a lakeside/entertainment precinct. They all fit the nature of that area. I believe sometimes companies lodge development applications even though there is no guarantee it will be built 'just in case' they end up finalising negotiations in the near future. This ensures the project meets deadlines. If they don't finalise negotiations, companies would just then ignore the development application approval. With Top Golf, they were negotiating since January 2014: I think the development application 'Demolition Works For New Attraction' referred to demolishing Blazing Saddles Fun 'n' Games & Boot Hill for the DC Comics Super-Villains Unleashed area and like I said before, the 'New Attraction & Lakeside Precinct - Stage 1 Early Works' refers to Top Golf & an adjoining lakeside/entertainment precinct.
  5. I'm assuming the "township" refers to that Westfield development? If so, I still don't think the fence around the former Blue Lagoon area means construction. If they were to construct a link near Dreamworld Studios, they would need to close Dreamworld Express to build either a bridge over or a tunnel under the tracks.
  6. @Dreamer747, by the way, I think if you have a season pass that you bought online, received via e-mail & printed off, you will have to go to the ticket booths to the left of the entrance building to trade it for a permanent season pass. Again, not 100% sure but I think this is likely the case.
  7. Regarding the park map discussion, I know park maps are not perfect (I think Arkham Asylum's track layout is slightly incorrect for starters) but given we don't know all the effects of the DC Comics Super-Villians Unleashed area yet, I thought I'd speculate based on the park map as sometimes they give good clues. Also, I do think it is a fair comment to say the area is also not very colourful on the park map. It is colourful on the Show Stage side but not the HWSD side. Doomsday Destroyer, for example, clearly needs more green. It might just be me - park maps are one of my favourite things about theme parks after all - but I just think the lack of colour on the HWSD side is not aesthetically pleasing when reading the park map particularly if the park map builds expectations in the general public about how to expect that area to look.
  8. Ok, fair enough. I'll keep that in mind. Regarding launch mid-ride, I was more imagining the possibility of a dark ride section mid-ride which begins with a braking section before culminating in a launch. Lift hill mid-ride is a lot more unlikely as you can't theme a lift hill that much unless this new coaster is built especially for VR, which would allow a themed lift hill via VR. I have speculated the possibility of this coaster being built especially for VR:
  9. It might be just be me but for the most themed area in Australia, does the park map make it not look very colourful? Also, with the nitrogen tanker, is that fire drawn underneath it? Seems very unlikely due to WHS requirements but would that mean fire effects in that area despite it being themed to Captain Cold? Or is fire going to be drawn on the actual paving around the nitrogen tanker? (Again, unlikely due to the theme) Anyone noticed how they removed the Chinatown entrance on the park map too?
  10. I wasn't saying it should be a launch start. I was just pointing out that launched coasters & hypercoasters aren't separate types - you can have a launched hypercoaster. But to add to the discussion about lift hill vs launch, they could have a launch mid-ride for all we know anyway with a lift hill start or visa versa.
  11. Soakness must vary on those rides then. (I forgot this but...) I was referring to Viking's Revenge pre-Storm Coaster. I've never experience Viking's Revenge in it's current environment. Whilst it does provide good views, I like the castle as part of the theming but when on the ride itself, I found it a bit odd - once on top of the castle, you can't really tell it is a castle except when going under those arches. That's just what I think anyway.
  12. Like I said in another topic, I think it is highly unlikely that they are doing any construction around the former Blue Lagoon area or hiding the past. It is also impossible to hide the future I think I saw somewhere recently an aerial image of the former Blue Lagoon area with heaps of cars parked in there so I think it is now a staff car park and that's the last thing Dreamworld Express riders want to see.
  13. I agree with you @AlexB. Obviously Whitewater World is equivalent to Wet 'N' Wild but come to think of it, Dreamworld is like Paradise Country/Movie World combined. Yeah, true but firstly, Doomsday Destroyer hasn't officially opened yet and secondly, Arkham Asylum was originally built in 1995 but themed as Lethal Weapon. I did actually forget about Doomsday Destroyer so the 5th dot point I made can be ignored: I think it is highly unlikely that they are 'hiding' any construction or trying to make people 'forget' it either. I think I saw somewhere recently an aerial image of the former Blue Lagoon area with heaps of cars parked in there so I think it is now a staff car park and that's the last thing Dreamworld Express riders want to see. No to all of the above. Doesn't Rocky Hollow's final drop soak everyone much more than the other 3 rides? Theming wise, I think Viking's Revenge & Rocky Hollow are fairly even. Rocky Hollow does have 1 extra drop compared to Viking's Revenge though.
  14. Nah, you're not slack - everyone's situation is different but we are all theme park enthusiasts. I've been a few times to Jamberoo but haven't been since before Funnel Web opened so I got a lot to catch up on. I'm missing the G-forces of theme park rides in general too so hopefully I can visit heaps of theme parks again soon.
  15. If that's referring to me not knowing they were trialling it back in May, I haven't been to MW in over 5 years - just saying. Other news sources did report it over the past few days but yes, Gold Coast Bulletin was the last to report it
  16. Actually, I think the whole VR system was custom-made: Even the VR video I think is custom-made: Actually, there are a few quotes that point to a custom-made VR experience. I really hope this is the case - that Skyrider is a temporary experience but so far, it looks fairly permanent. Yes, you did! To answer the 2nd question, given DW has so many rides, I'll just say any ride that does not have any extensive or critical on-ride theming. In my opinion, I think The Wedgie is a good alternative to Aqualoop.
  17. Haha I didn't realise the Gotham City Cafe trial had run that long. I saw it pop up on the Gold Coast Bulletin website in the past half hour then noticed lots of other news articles written about it over the past few days so I checked recent forum posts but found nothing so I thought it was new and no-one knew. VRTP must have launched it yesterday though to have that many news articles pop up. I haven't been following Gold Coast theme park forum topics much lately until those Mack Rides crates appeared at MW so I might be out of the loop for some things too.
  18. Highly unlikely they are going to refurbish the ride to suit the VR theme. Otherwise, why have Mick Doohan at the media call?
  19. Welcome to Parkz, @Dreamer747! I'm best helping only with Jamberoo. I haven't been to Jamberoo for a few years but hopefully will be this season so I'll take a guess on how Jamberoo's entry process works based on my previous visits. If I visit again, I'll give you an update - hopefully you haven't visited by then if I end up being slightly wrong! But basing it on my previous visits, pre-purchased park tickets are printed off via e-mail then at the park, head to the main entrance building, head to one of the entrance tunnels (I don't think it matters which one), they will scan your ticket, ask for your postcode (or if you don't have one, where you are from probably), give you a park map etc. & then they let you head to the turnstiles which allow you to enter the park. My best tip is to get to Jamberoo early - not just because of any possible long queues at the entrance gate but because the Chairlift & Bobsled always get big queues at the start of the day. As there are only 4 dry rides in the mainly water theme park (the other 2 dry rides being Landscape Golf & Jamberoo Express), people decide to head to the Chairlift & Bobsled first for 2 reasons: You cannot ride the Bobsled with water dripping on the track. Otherwise, the brakes might fail. Saves changing (and rushing if near the end of the day) from swimmers back into dry clothes. So get there early, find a nice spot to be your 'base' for the day & then head to that Chairlift queue as fast as possible (only way to access the Bobsled)! Unless, of course, you decide to try it at the end of the day - just give yourself enough time & make sure you are all dry.
  20. Here is 9 News Gold Coast's story on SkyRider: Spoiler Alert: It features a small 4 second snippet of the VR video at the 33 second mark (the 51 seconds to go mark).
  21. Like @Levithian said, I think there is zero chance those rides will utilise VR mainly because all those rides already contain extensive theming when you are on the ride itself. If there is any other rides that will one day feature VR at MW, it will be Green Lantern, Batwing Spaceshot and maybe Doomsday Destroyer (the latter mainly to add more to the storyline if (technically) possible - hard for it to add to the theming given it's located in one of the most brilliantly themed areas in Australia).
  22. This video from earlier in this topic shows you can create the sparks effects convincingly using 3D projection technology: Well I'm now not sure if the sparks in the above video were done using 3D projections but I'm sure it is technically possible. I'm pretty sure the Parkz forums are also the original roller-coaster.com.au forums so if you read it on the old website, then it must be here in the Parkz forums somewhere.
  23. Yeah but it didn't burn the whole mountain down or just the whole exterior mountain theming - it only damaged the interior of the final lift hill/drop room I think (as well as a bit of the exterior mountain theming around where the final drop begins).
