  1. I remember those guys singing on the boat also. I also remember the cowboys would stop the train, start shooting everywhere and pretend to rob the passengers. How easy would it be to go back to these days? If you shut down the dart popping balloon shop: there is 1 cowboy.
  2. TOT was running today and it sounded sweet. The TOT did not miss a beat all day. But on the other hand the vintage car relocation is a bit dangerous. One of the guide wheels broke of a vintage car today. The ride attendant did not notice and loaded it up with a young girl and sent her on its way. The right guide is the one that popped off which is the wost one to break due to the first corner being a right-handed corner. As the vintage car went around the corner it went straight until the right wheels touched the centre guide. If you know the new vintage car layout the first corner drops away about one metre. The left wheel went to the edge of the bank and the vintage car was tilting and making a loud scraping noise (so close to tipping) The thing I could not understand was the attendant let it keep going to it got hung up on the exchange section near the shed.
  3. You did a good job on the news article Richard. It’s not that often that you could get this type of information from the Gold Coast Council web site. The Gold Coast council do not do much certification these days they are mainly just interested in the bigger jobs, relaxation, Material Change Of Use or jobs that outside the scope of the town plan. It was interesting to read through the application to see Dreamworld have lodge there application under the old council (Albert Council) town plan and not the Gold Coast Council town plan. From what I have read is if Dreamworld application went under the Gold Coast Town Plan then it would not be approved due to the height factor. Under the Albert Council there was a provision for theme parks (Theme Park Town Plan). At the time Dreamworld was first built I believe it would have been part of the Albert Shire Council before the amalgamation. If an application falls inline with the town plan then is would be assessed by a private certifier and we would not find out any information on the application till after the application has been approved and built. The only other information I could see about other parks is Movie World has an application to extend a footpath. Sea World has an application for a Material Change of Use. If any other parks where currently planing anything there application could be with private certifiers.
  4. That’s a good pickup Gazza; I studied that for hours and did not see it. The layout of the Vekoma motorbike looks simular to the one that is seen on youtube. Without ridding it I think the Vekoma is better.
  5. I am sending my information to Richard and maybe he will do a report up about it. If I know Richard he already has a report ready to go.
  6. I have just found out that WWW is expanding at the end of next year. All I am willing to say is the new car park behind WWW is going to be no more. WWW will double in size. Look out WetnWild here they come. From what I can make out there will be eight new attractions.
  7. Well Gazza we all know if you are not going look after something or you mistreat it then it is going to crap itself. We all know once you buy a new car you have to maintain it.
  8. TOT was not going on Sunday. The TOT did have 3 empty runs during the day but there was a lady at the entrance telling people it was closed. Being it was not that long ago that the TOT had its yearly maintenance you would think it would be running. The closing of the TOT on the 19th could be for many reasons. One thing that does happen is at time of maintenance an item is found that requires replacing. The part might take a while to manufactory or locate. So what I am saying it might be having a RDO or getting oil change on that date. Lets hope Dreamworld know what the problem is with the TOT and it will be fixed for good on the 19th.
  9. Thats a lame offer. (And here we go again copy & paste) How do you find all this time yo search the web for offers?
  10. Went to Dreamworld last weekend and to my dismay I came across a lot of problems around the park. I thought it was time for Mr Fix It to come to the park and fix these items. This discussion could also include things that people see that are not working or how it should work. When I was waiting in line for the log ride I noticed the fence that wraps around the queue when you go up the stairs is broken. Maintenance has tried to reconnect the timber rail to the post with a piece of wire. If nobody went near the fence then that would be ok but there was a constant stream of people sitting on this rail and climbing it, I was just waiting for it to fall. I am going to dreamworld this weekend so I will take some pictures to explain it better. I will also be taking pictures of other problems that I see. If dreamworld can’t see their problems then it’s up to us to show them.
  11. Hang on Gazza I have the mother of ideas…………………….. Why don’t we mirror Movieworld to the other side of the highway so we would never have to cross a main road?
  12. I would rather Gazza’s bell ride then to copy another parks ride.
  13. Nobody knows what has happened to it. It was there one day but gone the next. All that is left is a hole, fence and control booth. Rumours have it that it was termites.
  14. New idea! For dreamworlds next big thrill ride. Fill the hole where the stingray use to be with jelly and call it the Jelly Fish. You get to line up in the sun for one hour and get very sweaty. When you have achieved the correct amount of sweat you get to swim across the hole full of jelly. Once you reach the other side and get out a photographer gives you a card and you get charged $14.95 for lunch because you swallowed a mouthful of jelly.
  15. I also agree with you Richard that financial Dreamworld has preformed well in the last 5 years but I don’t think it has a lot to do with Steven Gregg skills in bringing new people to the park. I think is has more to do with Steven tightening the purse strings and the current economy. You can see for your self, in the last financial releases, park numbers are starting to go down. What is worrying to me is dreamworld is not spending money on the upkeep of the park and rides are starting to go missing in action. People might be buying two-year pass now but if in the next couple of years, further rides disappear then people will start going across the road, leaving Dreamworld with annual pass holders who are not injecting anymore money into the park. The figures shown in the news today show that the gold coast is the fastest growing city in Australia and with Dreamworld annual reports showing a lot of their customers are local you would think that Dreamworlds customers should be rising and not falling.
  16. I am about to print the reports, but just a quick question. Why does Macquarie Leisure Operations Limited value Dreamworld and White Water World together on their corporate web site instead of 2 separate companies? Dreamworld Value $374.3 million as at 30 June 2007 (including White Water World and excess land). This does not make sense to me because WWW has just put in two slides (with their own money) and Dreamworld has just added the Moto-Coaster(with their own money). The two parks have put in different amounts of money but their value has been increased at an equal amount according to the web site. When the two different parks release their assets at the end of the financial year what does WWW do considering it is on Dreamworlds land?
  17. Richard where are you getting this information from? I would like to see it so I can make my own judgment on what is being said.
  18. I understand that Macquarie funded White Water World. What I am saying is by Macquarie putting a cap on dreamworld expences for the last few years and the next 10 years would cover the cost White Water World without affecting Macquarie bottom line. “Quote WWW was funded by Macquarie Leisure such that it is an independent investment from Dreamworld”. If Dreamworld was totally independent from WWW then Dreamworld would not have shut down their water slides. Dreamworld shut down their water slides so customers would go next door and pay WWW for water slides. giving a bigger return to Macquarie.
  19. I think the money that was allocated for dreamworlds new attractions was used to create White Water World. This is how the meeting would have gone. Employee #1 “The water slides at the back of dreamworld are getting old maybe it is time to upgrade them.” CEO “ I am due for a pay rise, where do you think we can get that money from.” Employee #2 “How about we take some of the money we have aside to upgrade the slides.” CEO “ But the more money I have at the end of the year the bigger the pay rise” Employee #1 “Well what about a new coat of paint then”. CEO “OK OK OK I will add some new slide, Call it White Water World and charge the customer extra to go on them. Yes I think that will give me a better pay rise” Employee #2 that s not fair to the customer”. CEO “If you shut up I will make you CEO of white water world”. Employee #1 What about dreamworlds future”. CEO What about my third holiday house?. Look If I buy a shopping trolley and chuck on some paint then call it a roller coaster, will that make you happy”.
  20. I would doubt if Dreamworld would have anything planed for next year. I think with their current CEO this type of addition is all we can expect for the future
  21. It was my first time yesterday on this ride and I would have to say that this is a cheap attempt at creating a roller coaster. You would say that it total missed the mark. I took my son and his cousin on the moto-coaster who both rode the side carts. Richard you say that this ride is for the younger person but what parent would want their kids in pain from the restraints during the ride. Dreamworld did not impress me at all yesterday.
