  1. I don't believe that Wonderland is operating at a loss at all..... It was only about 5+ years back that Wonderland was only open on weekends, public holidays and during school holiday periods. When they expanded to 7 day a week trading I'm sure they looked at whether or not it would be profitable. Even if it turned out to be unprofitable, surely the park would not keep operating during mid week.
  2. Have you heard much about the new ride next to corkscrew? Is it going to be worth the wait?
  3. What a blow that will be if the carparks do turn into part of the Business Park.... Although I thought Wonderland would have more sense than to make it so obvious. No business park will make a theme park very attractive being that close. As for the Wildlife Park, that's strange if it's true. I knew that the Wildlife Park got a lot of tour buses, but I still thought Wonderland itself would be more viable in terms of income..... ....IF ONLY MANAGEMENT WOULD REALISE THAT COULD CHANGE WITH A NEW RIDE THOUGH *HINT HINT*
  4. Wasn't there a rumour a while back from someone (cant remember if it was here or another board) that said one of the carparks would be closed to make way for construction of a new attraction?
  5. If this is that Spiderman show...............GRRRRRRRRR
  6. I spoke to someone at Scenic World the other day and they seemed definate that the ride would open soon.......They said no date had been set however.........Here's hoping......

  8. A member of staff has said 'There's been some talk of a Matrix attraction coming to the park, but nothing has been confirmed." So basically, management speak for "Maybe"
  9. If it just ends up being something like a "tiger enclosure"..... I'm sure I won't be the only one who will be slightly peeved......
  10. Oh yeah and does everyone remember the Gladiators appearance in the Space Probe special on tv (chuckles to self.....very sad)
  11. I remember the "There's a world I'd like to live in, and a world I'd like to see.......Where there's too much fun for everyone, that's where I'd like to be.......Wouldn't it be wonderful...Walking hand in hand.....Wouldn't it be wonderful if every boy, girl, woman and man....something something....Wouldn't it be wonderful if the world was Wonderland" ads. I must've only been about 5 or 6 when those were on but I can still remember that jingle.....shows what an impact a catchy song has doesn't it. They still used to play it when the park shut up until a few years ago. I also remember (also around that time).....the "Seven fifty after five all on a Saturday night". $7.50 after five ads. I got the ad from when the Demon first opened on tape somewhere. It involves a bunch of kids getting on the Demon at the station with a voice over saying "The Demon is now at Australia's Wonderland.....It's the biggest, fastest rollercoaster in the Southern Hemisphere." There were shots of some creepy looking guy behind the controls and when the train reached the top of the lift hill he would hit a big red button and the train would drop with lots of screams heard. It'd go through the loops and back into the stations where the girl riding would turn to her boyfriend and say "So what did you think?". He then turns to her with glowing red demon eyes and says in some demon type voice "I think I've been to hell and back". She screams and they show a really nice night time shot of the ride nicely back-lit. The Demon opened on Friday the 13th of September. I only remember this because it was my birthday. Does anyone remember the slides near goldrush as well.....before the beach? And the paddle boats in Hanna Barbera? (I never got to ride either )
  12. Sorry, I guess I should say that the 'tourist population' is less for Wonderland than the parks on the coast. But even so, that is little excuse for a lack of emphasis on rides as you think that, if Wonderland is forced to work with a local population (ie: rely on return visits more than the parks on the coast) they would be more likely to add new attractions. Oh well, I guess we can all just cross our fingers and hope for something good.......anything good.
  13. Sad but true, Wonderland really has dropped the ball re: rides after the 95/96 season. Obviously the park wouldn't be in the state it is in if it were located in America as it would have a far greater population count to work with. But I agree with you that Wonderland really has to do something. Admittedly the park has done some great work with scenery and theming in recent years, but it still lacks in the new rides dept. (And trying to distract the public from the fact that they haven't added anything new by introducing temporary below standard shows is wearing a tad thin now). The park's attendence levels aren't that far from those of Dreamworld. So I really can't seem to find a reason for the park failing to add new rides - Except for the plain and simple theory that it has no major competition in Sydney or NSW.... P.S. I actually think that the Bush Beast was a tad better than it was a year or so back, but that's just me.
  14. At least they're finally replacing Sky Hawk with something. That space looks like a giant gaping hole in Goldrush. From what I've heard, Wonderland had a pretty successful summer. So with school holidays over, and the rush finallised, it's most likely going to cool off for a few months. Anyway, the past few weeks haven't had the greatest weather in Sydney for going to theme parks.......
  15. Has anyone heard anything about how Wonderland's late Saturday night trading is working out? Has it been relatively successful? I've been to the park twice on Saturday nights since they resumed trading late, and they seem to get pretty reasonable crowds?
  16. Well, even so, I'm still excited. Considering the number of Marvel related movies coming out this year and next, it seems like Wonderland would have to have more up their sleaves than a simple show or character appearance for each........surely? The sequel to Spiderman, The Hulk, Daredevil, X-Men 2 etc etc. Surely a ride could be made out of one......PWEASE
  17. A show? Sorry if this sounds ungreatful but I was expecting something a bit more to come out of the Marvel deal.... I mean, shows at Wonderland just don't seem to interest me (perhaps because i saw Action Man Lives - UGH!) Here's hoping that there's some sort of rides that will come out of the characters as well at some stage. Thanks for the new info
  18. Even when prices were dropped, they were still around the $30-$40 mark. Why would the public pay to go into Fox, with a limited number of attractions (and an even less number of actual ride style attractions) when you could get into Wonderland? I think it needed to try and compete on the actual theme park level, like Movieworld is doing now if it was to survive......Obviously it didnt..... Shame though, I never got to go either :-(
  19. I thought I spotted some temporary construction sheds as well in that area of the park off the freeway a little while back...
  20. In one of the first articles I read on ninemsn when it was announced stated that the new area would cost approx $7 million. This was of course just an estimate at the time, and this would mean that the RR coaster is pretty darn cheap!
  21. Didn't Warner Roadshow have plans to open an Australian themed park at one stage???
  22. The swamp was used for Pacific Drive wasn't it - Australia's answer to Melrose Place lol
  23. Hi Nice to have new ppl here Wipeout is the best non-coaster in Australia imo. Happy Birthday too. Elliot
  24. That's right. I think I saw that somewhere. Movieworld had quite a few big stars come over when they first opened didnt they. Goldie Hawn (who made her little appearance in the screening room section of the Gremlins attraction), Kurt Russell, Mel Gibson and CV Wood (theme park designer).
  25. If it is from the Spain collection - I hope it's their Superman floorless. Looks v.v. nice indeed!
