  1. I get the feeling that Six Flags rushed the VR headsets onto their rides. Funny how they are struggling to run the coasters efficiently with the VR headsets......anybody could have foreseen that as a big problem, and should have been addressed when designing the overall experience. The presentation of the headsets are lackluster as well; they are using zip ties to secure the Samsung phones into the VR headsets.....it just looks tacky. The implementation of VR on Alton Tower's 'Galactica' looks more thought out. Even though this article too describes the tinkering with the headset on Glacatica to be a bit of a challenge for the rider. http://www.digitalspy.com/tech/feature/a789018/galactica-tested-alton-towers-new-vr-coaster-isnt-out-of-this-world/ Given time and money, I think these VR headsets on coasters could be an incredible experience. It is still early days for this tech. If they can solve the capacity issues of the headsets and create compelling, realistic VR graphics/video to view, then I would be happy for Movieworld to implement VR on their next coaster (i'd still like it to be optional though). It has been rumored that Mack rides are involved with the new Movieworld coaster. And Mack are the ones who first started experimenting with portable VR headsets on coasters. Mack rides owns this company: http://www.vrcoaster.com/index.php.
  2. ....wow it just showed up on my newsfeed. Classic click bate article. The comments are hilarious.
  3. After a quick google search, the size of the mickey's wheel is about right in that crudely photoshopped image. Mickey's Fun Wheel is 49m tall, The Melbourne Star is 120m tall. So mickey's should be just under half the size of the star. As for those loops though!?!?!
  4. ^Looks like someone got creative at 3aw..... http://www.3aw.com.au/news/melbourne-needs-a-new-proper-theme-park-20160405-gnz39t.html The article makes it sound as if there is actually a rumor that disneyland is coming to melbourne.......which there isn't..... In reality all they are discussing is the possibility of building a themepark in melbourne; kinda what we do on these forums haha. Which in my opinion is completely plausible. A themepark in Melbourne can work; either seasonal or year round. The weather argument is not even valid. Both Funfields and Adventure Park (both basically outdoor waterparks) operate seasonally, yet can both break attendance records every year, continue to invest in more rides/slides and grow successfully as a business.
  5. I'm not much of a gamer.....but I have to admit Planet Coaster is looking incredible. I'm actually blown away with the level of customisation and themeing detail you can produce with the limited building pieces available in the alpha. I'm even super impressed with the coaster building system, which the developers stress is far from finished!! You can get very smooth and realistic coaster designs; far superior to RCT3, and very close to the level of detail you can acheive with No Limits. I think you might be right about GOTY @reanimated35. Check this out:
  6. Bermuda for me. Really immersive with a 'film-like' narrative that was conveyed well. I really loved how the old 3 dark rides on the coast (bugs, bermuda and batman) incorporated a story line with multiple pre-show rooms, actors, ect. When you think about it, they were very innovative for the time in terms of immersive queue-management. Shame they are gone . More dark rides these days should really utilise a 'multiple pre-show room' format with or without a real person providing the backstory/direction. Baron 1898 at Efteling is really a great modern example of how to utilise preshow rooms to make the queue experience more exciting. It's the best themed rollercoaster I have been on. ^I agree. If we got the newer Six Flags version with the motion base vehicles, it would be an awesome ride. I wonder if MW could do an overhaul of the ride; add in Sally's new motion base cars and re-do some of the 3D animation? Actually market it properly this time under a new name. Just like with Batman the Adventure ride 2. I'd love to see that happen.
  7. It's a real shame that WVTP's don't put more time and money into improving their ride operations; or building e-ticket rides that have higher capacity. Capacity and queue experience imo should be top priority when designing a ride. I've always been frustrated with Superman's queue experience and its operations.....as it could be done a lot better. As Richard has said above, just look at Disney, Universal, Cedar Fair, ect. for inspiration. One of the main reasons I loved Disneyland was because of their operations.....everything was so smooth and efficient! There are some really great suggestions in this thread; kinda impressive for a small group of enthusiasts. It just shows how much we all want MW to be the best it can be. And if we, as guests, can identify flaws and suggest plausible inexpensive solutions; surely park employees have identified the same problems and suggested the same solutions. What's stopping them from improving their park and making a guests day more pleasant? It's not difficult to understand that long lines = unhappy quests. If the managerial staff at MW really wanted to make a difference, they would have already.
  8. Just watched this really interesting doco/biography on Walt Disney. http://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/585310275753/walt-disney I've seen some other disney doco's about Walt before. But I really enjoyed this one, as I found it to be an unbiased view of Disney's struggles and triumphs. The 1st part focuses on his earlier life as an animator, and It's VERY detailed. Lots of old photographic and video content of Walt and his family during different stages of his career/life. Part 2 airs on the 3/1/16 on SBS HD - I'm guessing disneyland/world will be covered then. Definitely worth the watch if your a Disney fan, or interested in Walt.
  9. Rode the new Kraken Racer last weekend. Really good addition to the park! The enclosed tube section is my favourite part of the slide, as you get some really strong ejector air when riding the blue and green tubes. Surprisingly thrilling. And then another (smaller) airtime moment when you come out of the enclosed tube, and down the final hill into the run-out lanes. Out of the three types of racer slides I’ve been on (B.R.O. at White Water World, the Aqua Racer at Wet’n’Wild and Adventure Park, and now this), I’d say the Kraken feels like the fastest of the three. It’s got speed all the way from the beginning to end; it never lets up. Because of the speed, it is a very short ride (approx. 10 secs). Which is a bit of a con, but that's expected from a racer type slide. Didn't wait more than a couple minutes to ride the slide....capacity is high because of the short ride time. Very re-ride able The Typhoon (Proslide Bowl) is still my favourite slide at the park, but this one is a close second. If you live in Melbourne, it's worth heading down to ride.
  10. Here's another great article about the growth of Funfields, their new rides and slide, and improvemnts for the 2015/16 season: http://www.ausleisure.com.au/news/funfields-opens-new-kraken-racer-speed-slide-and-new-childrens-rides/
  11. If anybody is keen on seeing some unique construction photos of the Kraken Racer, head over to the latest Parkz Update: http://www.parkz.com.au/update/2015/12/10/372-Funfields_2015.html I was down on the weekend to check out the park. The slide was testing when I was there, with workers applying the finishing touches to landscaping, signage and the timing system. The park is looking better than ever, with new themeing and improved landscaping. It's exciting to see this small park grow consistently every year. Grand opening of the Kraken Racer is this Saturday.
  12. ^I really like this prediction! It's plausible for a couple reasons; 1) Mad Max is a hot movie IP owned by Warner Bros. - It's fresh and popular (based on the success of the latest movie and planned sequel). 2) An RMC, whether it be the iron horse steel track or the wooden topper track system, would aesthetically fit within a Mad Max theme. The wood lattice structure mixed with twisted steel and rivets - very post-apocalyptic. Even the trains have been given great 'mad max-esque' themeing in the past. Would it be too ambitious to predict that it's a dueling RMC, where one side is Mad Max, and the other, the War Boys? And the rollercoaster is the chase sequence between the two, just like in the movies? The only problem I see with Mad Max is that it's not an entirely family friendly movie IP, would that discourage young teens.....i really don't know? I guess if Saw can be a successful movie IP for a coaster (Thorpe Park) anything is possible?
  13. Construction Update. Here's some more pics from their facebook page, plus a couple I took today of the Kraken Racer. Samba Balloon: Kraken Racer:
  14. Funfields have posted some construction photos to their fb page. I'm guessing a late November opening. https://www.facebook.com/Funfields/posts/984468198276853
  15. To be fair Funfeilds has called it the 'Kraken Racer', as opposed to just 'Kraken'. Plus I doubt the people who named the ride knew of the Kraken slide at Adenture World. I honestly think they just took the generic product name from Proslide and ran with it haha, cause it's exactly the same
  16. Looks like they do! Funfields have just announced 3 new rides for this summer season. http://www.funfields.com.au/rides or their facebook https://www.facebook.com/Funfields/ Kraken Racer - A 4 lane ProSlide KrakenRACER waterslide.Berry Ferris Wheel - A Zamperla Mini Ferris WheelSamba Balloon - A Zamperla Samba BalloonThe Kraken Racer looks like the most thrilling addition, and it's also the first of its kind in Australia. Pretty keen to give it a try, it looks pretty fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_w0JGtLGyo As much as I want Funfields to add more thrilling ride additions, like a Gerstlauer coaster similar to Adventure World, it's great to see Funfields updating the park and adding new rides. And you have to remember that Funfields caters towards a family audience with smaller kids.
  17. wow! The new Justice League dark ride at Six Flags over Texas looks unreal. Very close to Universal Studios quality. Love the animatronics and other practical effects - very cool! You can tell that Sally learnt a lot from creating MW's version, especially on how to integrate the game/shooting component a lot better. A good blend between screens and practical effects as well. Instead of shooting at 'stars', your shooting at real villains, thugs and robots on screen, giving you points. A bit jealous that this is at a Six Flags park and not in Movieworld. Looks like a really solid addition.
  18. Yep, new ride/attraction by the looks of it. Typhoon was the last attraction (great proslide waterslide btw) they added, back in late 2013, and there were no new attractions in the 2014-2015 season. So I assume they have been saving up for a new attraction for this summer coming. I remember doing a survey about a year ago about future attractions. A couple of the options were wavepool, rollercoaster & lazy river. Fingers crossed for a coaster!
  19. Looks like you can make 'dark-ride'-like events happen in NL2, like trigger smoke and lighting. This video shows the capabilities of NL2 very well: IMO both No Limits 2 and Themepark Studio look like great games. From what we've seen of Themepark Studio it's focusing more on overall themepark design with loads of overall customisation and a easy to use coaster builder; that gives you far greater freedom than RCT3 ever did. But No Limits 2 will still be the ultimate coaster builder/simulation game, focused solely on realistic rollercoaster design.
  20. Nice find! It looks like Interpark and Pinfari merged, because that page you linked Gazza shows the Interpark coaster models, but there's also a page below showcasing the Pinfari collection. They offer a model with two inversions: http://www.pinfari.com/pinfari.html. Also that WhirlWind model, whilst looking awesome in the brochure, in real life it looks a bit rough
  21. ^Same. When I was in high school, the family used to go up before the majority of schools started holidays.
  22. Are they building an on-site hotel for Wet'n'Wild Sydney?
  23. I know I shouldn't be bringing this topic back again....but i'm going to, because I still don't understand why they charge. Don't get me wrong, I love the external locker system. It speeds up load/unload times, improves safety dramatically and is needed due to the station design. But why do I have to pay to use that service....why not make it free like Universal does!? Superman is currently the only ride in the park that doesn't allow loose items OR doesn't provide a loose article box for free. The locker fee makes the ride an up-charge attraction (if nobody can look after your loose articles). Is it because the lockers produce more profit than purchases from the gift shop? That way, they don't really care that your wallet is in the locker? Is the reason to simply make money?
  24. Yeah that's what I meant by 'slower'. It looks really sluggish now....with the extra trims. Did you prefer it before they altered it?
