  1. I was checking out some videos of Green Lantern, when I noticed that more recent videos show the coaster running slower. Has anybody noticed this in the parks? Faster: - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMtB0OG7sYk - Slower: - - -
  2. The park is really starting to look impressive. I'm loving the look of that blue slide, it's one of those new TornadoWAVEs from Proslide yeah? Looks like a ton of fun. awesome update! thanks Julys
  3. Funfields is adding a ProSlide CannonBowl for the 2013/2014 season. 'Typhoon' will be the world's longest CannonBowl waterslide in the world. It's similar to the little-rippers at White Water World on the Coast, but this one will have a longer 'pre-bowl' section i'm assuming. http://www.funfields...actionnew-page/ They already have some construction pictures up on their facebook page: https://www.facebook...92086089&type=1. I love the marketing approach that Adventure World and Funfields are taking. Using social media to show updates and releasing proper details of the ride months before opening. Similar to what the American parks do.
  4. Very true. They recently acquired Melbourne Aquarium, and are slowly turning it into one of their 'Sea Life' Aquariums. Pretty much what they did to Sydney Aquarium.
  5. I heard it on the radio this morning and got a bit excited! I then found this article: Theme park being readied for takeoff at Avalon THEME Park operators and investors are to be courted by Geelong leaders about building an attraction in the Avalon Airport precinct. The City of Greater Geelong has held discussions with Village Roadshow and Avalon operator Linfox about a theme park on Avalon's 1750ha estate. US film connections are being sounded out about the possibility of a Movie World-style experience. Geelong councillor Kylie Fisher said the potential investment was gaining traction, with Avalon confirming its interest. "This could generate jobs, generate happiness and a bit of excitement for Geelong," Cr Fisher said. She has been interested in attracting a theme park for years, initially looking for suitable land between Geelong and Colac. She said Avalon chief executive Justin Giddings had suggested land at the airport, which is committed to introducing international flights. Geelong Mayor Keith Fagg said there was no specific project but labelled the theme park concept as "a very attractive prospect". "Avalon and the city (council) would be very happy to embrace a proposal that might come, or go out and seek one," Cr Fagg said. Cr Fisher said Village Roadshow Theme Parks - which operates five attractions on the Gold Coast - were a potential investor. The group has previously been interested in the region, devising plans for a park called African Safari World on the Werribee Zoo site, which failed to gain State Government support. She said the proposal would be further developed when Mr Giddings returned from overseas. Avalon is finalising its master plan and land use plan, looking ahead to 2033. The vision includes expanded and new terminal areas, a rail link, two new runways, a recreation zone and a 22ha retail precinct. The council will lobby for the shops to be restricted to "big box"-style retailing, such as furniture, sporting and camping goods. It also opposes Avalon's plan to issue planning permits, saying that would remove council input and leave no avenue of appeal at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. http://www.geelongadvertiser.com.au/article/2013/07/25/369931_news.html --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Not a lot of specifics were given, but it's very interesting to see that Village Roadshow haven't given up on Melbourne as a potential themepark location. Comment away...
  6. Great to see Seaworld taking their time with this attraction. Considering the coaster is mostly built they now have a little over 5 months for themeing/landscaping and testing.
  7. This trick/strategy works really well on Batwing also. I was in line with my brother and we both put our hands up when they asked for single riders. Lucky for us, they needed 2 single riders on this cycle. We got to sit close to each other and we skipped the 30 min queue. The best bit was a family near us became upset/confused as to how we skipped the line: shouting 'that's not fair!', 'why do they get to jump the queue?'. They either didn't hear the call for 2 single riders, or they couldn't comprehend how we could be 'single riders' as they realised we were brothers haha.
  8. Arkham still only operates with 1 train yeah? Or did they actually buy 2 trains, with 1 sitting out for maintenance purposes?
  9. Just to clarify the rules for GL: If I had a backpack on me, can I leave that in the item boxes? Or is it more for singular items such as phone/wallet/glasses/hat?
  10. I got two more for Victoria. 1. MSAC in Melbourne, has an enclosed body slide. http://www.msac.com.au/facilities/water-slide 2. A lesser known one. A body slide in Bright (country Victoria, around 3 hours out of Melbourne). It actually uses the river as its exit pool, and also the water from it. So as you can imagine it was bloody cold. Don't know who built it, but it's run as a fund raiser for the local rotary club. As a kid, every summer we went to Bright and I remember always being so excited to ride it. http://thethousands.com.au/melbourne/stray/bright-rotary-waterslide/ (top right of picture you can scroll through)
  11. yeah that does look amazing....but also terrifying! It was only a matter of time before someone made the face-first drop tower idea a reality. So glad Intamin got there first. I was just reading through tpr's forums, and someone posed the question; "could Intamin take this new tilting seat design and retro-fit them onto existing towers?". Giant Drop 2 anyone?
  12. that's pretty cool; including some Australian coasters in the mix! Was there a public call for the Superman and Jet Rescue filming days? I wonder when it was filmed.
  13. That's a pretty decent budget for a smallish park. If we are looking at eurofighters, something like Dare Devil Dive at Six Flags Over Geaorgia cost $9 million to build. Pretty decent length and that was with the new lap bar restraints.
  14. From the WVTP press release the today (here's a link to the full thing posted by aussienetman in another topic: ) they released some more info on the ride: If you check out other water coasters on rcdb, 460 metres of track gives us something along the lines of this:http://rcdb.com/9377.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLSTvz6VnbU Thrills/coaster wise it looks pretty good! I just hope that we also get some great themeing with this ride. Bermuda Triangle (along with the looney tunes river ride) are what made me love dark-rides. Bermuda especially had some great special effects for it's time and I hope the water coaster does the same.
  15. Hopefully when June rolls around, a new pass will be conceived that is more expensive but has very similar perks to what you have suggested. I really just want that early entry with 1 or 2 major rides open for 1/2 n hour! They did it for a bit when the gold pass was around and they really should include it in the next pass. ^I'm with you guys, scrap the name VIP pass when it's nothing really that special. Give me a pass along the lines of what reanimated suggested, and then maybe 'VIP Pass' is valid.
  16. I'm loving the idea of an indoor rapids ride MickeyD. I may be asking for too much, but just like in the original ride and in Batman: the ride 1 & 2, I'd love to see a proper pre-show with an actor/actress doing a rehearsed spiel. Things like the ride attendant making everyone "yaaay!" and "boooo", and then talking to the Looney Tunes really was something special. It got everyone excited and really immersed you into the story.
  17. Now that holidays are almost over, it makes complete sense for them to market the attraction for the easter break...should carry them over nicely till the September opening of the Storm.
  18. Visited Funfields a couple of weeks ago....sorry for not posting sooner :/ But I do have pics of the new Burnout ride. Even though it is a small family park, it's still a great place to visit. The place has a unique charm that a lot of more commercial parks lack. A good 1/3 of the land is taken up by the picnic area of the park; lots of shade, picnic shelters, coin operated barbecues, a nice cafe/kiosk/ice creamery rolled into one (churros is new for this season!). Looks like they did a lot of touch-ups and landscaping over the off-season as everything was clean and well kept. They've also poured ashfelt/bitumen over the original gravel car park. Since 2008/9 they've been steadily adding new attractions every season, and it's paying off by the looks of the crowds the day I was there (30 min wait for the toboggans all day). The new addition this season was the old Stingray from Dreamworld....now named Burnout, and a small tea cups ride from Australia Zoo called Snakes Alive. It think they both fit right at home at Funfields amongst the the childrens area of the park. Burnout was operating in the exact same fashion it was at Dreamworld in it's last couple years (would of been awesome if they sped it up a bit). Both the outer chassi and inner mechanical aspects of the ride look like they got a good overhaul though, along with the obvious new paint job. Good little ride, but again more of a family/childrens ride.
  19. perhaps it'll be ready for the Easter school holidays?
  20. I remember riding the Endevour as a kid and really enjoying it. But as Rappa said, this ride had little to no restraint system! From what I remember everybody had a small gated off area where you stood up in, and then a chain link was attached across those gates as the 'restraint'. I always questioned the safety of that ride because you HAD to hold on or else you'd fall out! Here's a good video of it:
  21. Couldn't have said it better myself. I have no complaints about the locker policy....just make it free! Either design your rides to accommodate loose articles (like Disney) or use Universal's locker system for rides that need it.
  22. Just found this small clip on youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FD9dDBoqhbs. Looks like it's running the same cycle as it was at Dreamworld though. It's good to see that Funfields are adding something new every year (either dry ride or water ride). They also added a small tea cup ride this season, which used to be at Australia Zoo: http://www.funfields.com.au/rides/snakes-alive/ The park seems to be doing very well for itself. Last time I went to Funfields the park reached capacity by lunchtime, and had to turn away guests!
  23. ^It seems like they have mistaken Power Surge for a coaster. From what I can see, the Power Surge and the Crazy Coaster will be temporary Summer attractions only. After that If Metropolis is definitely not coming back, then I'm guessing that area will stay empty until the next summer when they do the same thing; bring in show rides for the school holidays.
  24. The loose items policy at SFMM, would you say it's as strict as Superman at MW? It says on the website they have lockers, but you can take certain items on with you if you have secure zip pockets (cargo pants). I'm thinking of just hiring a locker at the entrance, stuff my main stuff in there (backpack). Then just take sun glasses, wallet camera and phone with me? Or should I just pay the couple dollars at each individual ride locker for convenience, so I don't have to walk back to the front of the park all the time?
  25. thanks for the advice. I will definitely run to X2, provided that the bus tour I've booked gets there on opening time! If not, considering i'll have a flash pass, X2 and Drop of Doom will be the only rides with a really long wait since they aren't offered on the flash passes. Should be a fun but full-on day.
