  1. Wtf. That doesn't answer anything. Why don't they just say what the reason was, then? ?
  2. So sad to see how much this situation is getting out of hand. It's an absolute train wreck. Janine brought this article to my attention before. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3872842/Outrage-Dreamworld-continuing-sell-50-photos-killer-Thunder-River-Rapids-ride-emergency-services-battled-save-four-trapped-tourists.html?ito=social-facebook_Australia Despite the misleading clickbait headline, it's actually about a guy who has gone to the media over the fact that Dreamworld was selling him $50 worth of souvenir photos in the Kodak shop at the time of the incident, and this act has apparently left him traumatised. Yes, you read right. F*%king appalling. With his logic, maybe I should be going to the media as well (and hey! Why not seek compensation as well? Everyone else apparently is trying to) because I walked past the ride 20 minutes before the accident took place. Scabs
  3. And I never suggested that I had a "right" to privacy. I simply stated that it doesn't seem fair that grieving public should have to be subjected to the media circus in order to pay their respects on site. As human beings, that they should know when it's time to back off. But clearly they don't when it's related to a juicy news story.
  4. Yes, this was mentioned and article linked to on the previous page.
  5. Obviously being the place of relevance to the incident, and also because I wanted to personally deliver a card of condolence and support to Dreamworld staff, as well as leave flowers. Not as sinister as you may think.
  6. Forgive me, this is the first time I have ever had to attend a public tribute site. It just seems a little unfair that park staff and other related industry people are given the option of attending a private ceremony at the site of the incident, yet the rest of us aren't. Instead we are forced to deal with the media circus instead
  7. I wasn't intending to share these, the only reason I took them is because I chose not to take my daughter along yesterday and she wanted to know "what Dreamworld looks like right now". But it demonstrates exactly how bad the media circus was around there yesterday, if not still already like that now... You can see all the news reporters lined up to do their live crosses in the last photo, along with the bloke who insisted on filming footage every time someone put flowers down or went near the tribute. I found it all to be somewhat disturbing. I was struggling to hold back tears when I arrived, seeing the tribute of flowers really hit home for me reality wise. But felt embarrassed to express my emotions because of all the reporters around watching, and was forcing myself not to cry. Shouldn't have to be like that ?
  8. Because when they can't even be respectful enough to allow peeps to lay flowers and have a private moment to mourn over the deaths of fellow park goers without them trying to get news footage of every tear and flower laid, you truly get to understand what low lives they really are. What I experienced outside of Dreamworld yesterday was appalling, I had to practically weave through endless news tents and media cameras to get anywhere near the tribute area, all whilst their reporters were all standing around on standby to do their live crosses for the afternoon news. Yes, I am all for questions asked and some coverage of the tragedy, but there are also times when they need to understand that enough is enough, show some respect and compassion, and back off.
  9. I was planning to attend the Final Party, I purchased a ticket a couple of weeks ago. Admittedly I was a little disappointed at first, especially since I had already gone to the extent of purchasing makeup and stuff to dress up on the night with. However in the bigger picture of things, I understand why Movie World have made this decision, and I'm glad they have. Besides the obvious ie. the park openly showing their compassion and respect for this tragedy and it's victims by cancelling, I find it extremely gracious of them to be openly showing their support and uniting together with Dreamworld on this one, given the two parks are usually in direct conflict of interest with each other. They literally pulled their event less than half an hour after Dreamworld did their Screamworld events, so it seemed pretty clear to me that the did it last in response to that. Also, very rarely do you see one park mention or refer to the other so directly by name, so to see that email from Movie World refer to Dreamworld, it personally touched my heart. Honestly, it would have been poor taste anyway for Movie World to go ahead with a "day of the dead" themed special event, given the circumstances. I am sure they would have pulled the plug on the other remaining nights as well, had they not already completely sold out to such large audiences. Had I not already booked a panic room for tomorrow night's Fright Nights, I probably would have chosen to stay home. Nothing against MW, just still mentally stuffed up a bit over the events of Tuesday and my heart is telling me I shouldn't be out having fun at one so soon in respect to the victims. It's probably gonna take me a few days, if not a couple of weeks, at least to recover from this tragedy
  10. Same, however the reason for my non-attendance tomorrow is because I have work from 8am-4pm. Being a new job, and the fact I already left an hour early yesterday afternoon to take flowers down to the park, I can't really afford to push for a day off... as much as I wish I could go. It's hard because I feel somewhat obligated to be there to show my support and pay my respects to the victims, but unfortunately my hands are tied
  11. @razza1987 I agree. It's incredibly immature of them all to be making so many damaging accusations and claims when the official investigation report hasn't even been released yet. Others are amateur pages playing detective and circulating images which claim that the park has been covering up alleged ride maintenance and that TRR was supposed to be closed that day. I think that's why it's important that we try and stand by the parks, obviously Dreamworld in particular, during this tragic aftermath. They really need our support right now as well as the families of this horrible event. It has just become so incredibly messy
  12. I've already made a small donation, would be more if I could afford it at the moment. If you are able to do the same, please spare a dollar or two and help support these guys. Whilst obviously there is nothing that can be done to reverse the tragedy on Tuesday, we can at least help ease their financial burden a little bit and give them one less thing to stress over during their incredibly difficult time.
  13. FYI: Apparently non-membership holders whom purchased tickets can have them refunded if they contact the park directly via phone or email. On a side note, it's worth noting that there is first indication right there that despite what the media has been claiming, Dreamworld obviously believe they will be reopening at some stage.
  14. Names of three of the victims have now been released. http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/dreamworld-deaths-children-watch-mum-and-friends-die-in-ride-accident/news-story/20be2cff92f55e85d603f04864882450
  15. All I am going to say to confirm this is that I stumbled across a descriptive post on a friends Facebook page which was by a friend of hers who was in the queue at the time it happened. Honestly, I wish I had never had read it. It's been playing on my mind ever since, I can't get the images out of my head ? Thank you.
  16. And they usually don't, hence why this hasn't never happened with the ride until today. But sometimes things can and do go wrong, especially when mechanical issues or operator error are involved. @AlexB I agree with your theory. I have had similar images in my head of how the incident took place, and they are not unlike what you have described. Although I imagined a raft going nose up over the back of the one in front and flipping backward, as opposed to going nose down. Either way it happened, I'm sure it was absolutely horrific to all who were involved. I keep hoping it's just a bad dream I'm having and I'll wake up from it soon. The situation seems so surreal, being a family ride I have grown up with and incident free until today. Suddenly, four lives are lost and the ride shut down indefinitely. Still can't believe this tragedy took place today. It's something that's going to take me a while to get over. It's so sad
  17. Honestly, I cannot believe that someone would even remotely consider amusing themselves with trolling during a tragedy like this
  18. Have you even been following the initial facts as to what happened? It's believed that the entire raft flipped after it collided with another on the lift hill conveyor belt. Do you seriously believe that it's physically possible for people standing up and "mucking around" in any manner to manage to flip one of those incredibly heavy things over? Just... wow. I think I'm going to bite my tongue on this one.
  19. There has been absolutely no evidence of this, including from witnesses whom have spoken openly to the media today. If anything, numerous sources have been speculating that the accident happened due to a ride malfunction.
  20. Possibly, but the point of my post was to indicate that now is not the time to be even remotely considering such a thing. They haven't even properly started the investigation yet, and that alone is something that is no doubt going to take a lengthy amount of time. It is worth pointing out, however, that the reason the Smiler reopened was with the conclusion that their accident was the consequence of operator error and lack of training, not because of any fault with the actual ride itself. That and whilst there were serious injuries involved, none of them resulted in actual death. Such decisions on whether a ride reopens or not post accident fall on the circumstances surrounding the incident itself. Therefore given we have no idea at this stage as to how and why this happened with River Rapids, it's way too early to be concluding if or when the ride will ever reopen.
  21. Need you be reminded that four people just tragically suffered horrific, brutal deaths on this ride? Honestly I think that would be the very last thing on mind of the park's management and staff at the moment... if they have even remotely thought about it at all at this stage. The cause of the incident has not been determined as yet, let alone if the ride is safe to ever continue operating in future. Despite what date the website allegedly states at this stage, one would be wise to assume it indicates very little and tbh at this stage I'd expect the ride to remain closed indefinitely, if not out of respect of the victims alone.
  22. Been following the breaking news of this incident since numerous people brought it to my attention via my blog this afternoon. Absolutely shocked and stunned. Feeling numb also over the "what ifs" running through my head. I was at the park for a few hours today, and walked past the River Rapids ride approximately 10 minutes prior to this incident taking place. Hubby and I considered going on it on the way out, but ultimately decided not to. Arrived home to this breaking news. Can't believe it.....
