  1. I'd say the mobiles department will probably help pick up some of the fall, and they still have Dockside in the middle of the park, and the usual outlets down the other ends. Assuming they can pull off this upgrade before the next school holidays, it shouldn't be too hard since we are heading into off peak winter period now. Still sucks for the workers, though ?
  2. Wow, that sucks. I thought it was the ride operators that day (specifically the engineer department from what I can recall reading) who were to blame for the incident? As they didn't follow proper procedures and released the second card full of riders before ensuring the first test cart had cleared the track? Also I thought that the Merlin CEO toom full responsibility for the incident from the very beginning, in that interview that was posted on here. They said that the victims didn't need to sue because they would be fully looked after by the park... ???
  3. Yeah, I've spoken to a couple of my old workmates still currently there, and they have both said that all the food outlets in the plaza will be closed for 3-4 months whilst the roof is installed. They are worrying over hours being cut as a consequence, particularly those of casual workers. Quite a lot of them work in that area, and they can't see them being relocated to other outlets in the meanwhile, as it would cause overstaffing ??? .... only a matter of time ???
  4. I wanted to post a few updates about Sea World but couldn't find a recent topic for doing so, so I'm starting one ?? Firstly, the old bridge is now completely gone. Stumps have been removed as well. Pretty sure this has already been spoken of, but meh... new theming popping up around the seal show entrance path, which is nice! Seems they are building a new resting area for the pelican enclosure next to the seal show, or at least fixing the old one. Looks like they are planning to relocate some of the sideshows to underneath dockside tavern whilst the food plaza has its new roof built (hard to see sorry, the sun wasn't my friend today haha) : Otherwise that's pretty much all that's happening at Sea World right now ?
  5. Please tell me one of those deaths wasn't the elevator incident that occurred on the Carnival Ecstacy at the end of last year? I still shudder over the thought of it. And people wonder why I have a fear of lifts when stuff like that happens (and is then plastered all over the news) ?????
  6. I used it last weekend to get my sister, her boyfriend and a friend in (using mine and my kids' passes - one friend per pass) . You click on the link on the link provided in the bring a friend email, it takes you to the website where you fill out your pass details and it emails you a PDF of the ticket (barcode) for your friend to use at the entry gate. I also got the 'bring a friend' email for this weekend too, however I'm not going again till next week lol.
  7. Yeah, if you look through Dreamworld's timeline there was a post someone made today with a photo of the google maps dude inside the front entrance Although I was there this arvo and didn't see him at all. Damn!
  8. According to a couple of news reports the park had issued a statement, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the net.
  9. Lol I noticed that too, Magician. Went back to SeaFM's page to see if there were any responses to my comments on there, and couldn't find the original post anywhere. Bloody Austereo network have a lot to answer for, causing all this unnecessary panic ? Dreamworld have piped up this morning and added one extra day of maintenance for the ride, whilst confirming to everyone that it will be reopening.
  10. You mean a vertical one? Haha, if only... but gravity says no
  11. You'd think so. But then let's not forget what happened with the Buzzsaw drama (or lack thereof) last year. Dreamworld kept changing the maintenance dates and extending them every time the ride was due to be reopened. So it may very well happen again this time round with the Log Ride. Remember how the Buzzsaw also got similar treatment from the media back then, sensationalised headlines about how it was closed "indefinitely" and giving people the impression it was dangerous and may not reopen at all. Now it's the log ride's turn to cop the same thing, apparently On another note, from that thread... omg, the irony!!!
  12. I know, and now Dreamworld's FB page has been bombarded with "Save the log ride" posts over the past few hours. Seems the Austereo Network has created a mass panic with their sensationalist headlines
  13. I am thinking the same! I remember when the media was claiming that the Buzzsaw was closing "indefinitely" after its restraint layer failure last year, yet it was only closed for a few weeks. Clickbait at its finest, it seems! And I have told them as such lol. Still hasn't stopped a massive uproar in their comments, though...
  14. http://www.seafm.com.au/goldcoast/news/feed/2016/4/dreamworlds-log-ride-to-close/ 'Closes for good'? What the hell???? ???
  15. Check it out, @Slick! Movie World have used some of our photos in their latest email. I've spotted about four of mine, and a few of yours too ???
  16. I don't think that was the sole reason, as it was always on the rough side over the years it operated. I heard it was because Dreamworld's CEO at the time ran it into the ground. They didn't maintain it to the best of their ability and it was in very poor condition with a rusted track by its final days. That and it was old anyway. The Cyclone was brought in as it's replacement before they permanently closed it down.
  17. No air con in the queue tunnel area. It's pretty busy there atm due to NSW school holidays, which means lengthy lines as well. It was freaking hot in there a week or so ago when we were lined up, not the most pleasant experience ?
  18. Definitely a side effect of the slide. I usually set up camp nearby (on the right side of the wave pool) and regularly witness riders pulling their ridden up shorts out of their butts after they get out ?
  19. Regardless of what happened, it will be a shame if this incident affects the future of this ride in any way. Does anyone know if it has been reopened today? Or is the investigation still going ahead? 30 years of drama free ride operation, and all it takes is one fool like this one to force the park to install unnecessary things like seatbelts and airbags in the boats 'just in case' someone else decides to be an idiot again in future. It sucks ???
  20. Yeah, they seemed to range between $9-$10 (slice of pizza, wedges etc) and the $20 mark. I bought a crab baguette which was $14, you could get a chicken one for $12. Pulled pork roll was $14, as was the jambalaya and chowder soup cob. Ribs were $18 I think. They were advertising the seafood boil up on their website for $22, although it did say minimum two people. So not sure if that was the price EACH or for both? But yeah, you get the idea. ETA: If you zoom in on some of the outlet pics posted earlier, you can see the pricing on some of them
  21. OK so handstands aside, now people are saying he tried to surf down it!
  22. I reckon you're spot on with your expectations there, @reanimated35. With the amount of money, effort and time going into the new Tiger Island project, I also don't expect much more to take place this year. If so, I reckon it will just be ride refurbs and touch ups as well. Not that it's a bad thing, but it seems to be their main focal point right now (going by that earlier article as well) as opposed to adding anything brand new and expensive.
  23. I think the gap between boats is bigger than that. I don't recall ever being able to see the one in front of me at any stage of riding ?
