Movieworld, or rather Comic World?
Theme Park Girl replied to Louis.sayer3's topic in Theme Park Discussion
I used to love, love, LOVE Movie World back when it first opened and everything was relevant to the park's name.... the movie themed rides, the backstage & special effects studios tour, heck even the original 3D movie played in Roxy was also movie themed (two kids travelling through time and visiting movie sets from different eras). The DC stuff back then was also based on the flim counterparts ie. Batman Returns & Forever. Everything just fit, and they did a marvelous job with it. These days, I have to admit it just doesn't appeal to me the same way anymore. I feel the plot has been long lost with the DC comic direction the park has been plowing down over the past few years, almost as if they are trying to draw in a younger audience - or alternatively, the adult geeks out there who love comic books - instead of catering for all ages. Movie World has lost the plot they started out with, including what seems to be their Warner Brothers licence as well, given even the Looney Tunes characters are also few and far between now. When was the last time you saw Marvin the Martian, Taz Devil or Pepe Le Pew (not counting the once-off valentine's day appearance) or any of the others? And also Gizmo the Mogwai from Gremlins? They have since been replaced with DC counterparts like Green Lantern, Wonder Woman & the Joker. Remember they also used to do movie walkthrough experiences like Harry Potter & the Matrix? Why don't they do those anymore to continue to push the park's movie theme? Honestly I felt nothing but disappointment when they announced the new area to be, once again, DC themed. Not what I had hoped to hear at all, and as joz stated above, another missed opportunity to redirect the park back toward the movie theme it allegedly prides itself on... despite barely living up to it nowadays. It's a shame Just my 2c anyway from a Movie World fan. Will always love the park, but yeah, very disappointed with it these days and I think it now lacks the heart it started off with back when it opened and was dedicated to bringing "movie magic to life" -
C'mon guys, they aren't gonna be sitting there for six months. I'm sure they will start assembling the ride well before that, especially when they have an entire new area to theme and decorate once they have. They won't be able to do any of that stuff prior to finalisation of the Doomsday construction work, so realistically it's gonna probably be about half that time. Hence why they probably think it's not worth putting them away in storage, as they aren't really gonna be sitting there for more than a few weeks ?

River Rapids was initially open and operating at the beginning of Screamworld, but it closed earlier than the other rides for some reason. By around 8pm they were draining it ? Log ride was definitely closed. They had an attendant redirecting traffic near the entrance to the Giant Drop, so that was as far north as one could go. The other off limits point was just outside the Billabong restaurant.

Had a quick convo with a pair of mechanics observing the Wipeout tonight, they reassured me that she has at least another 20 years left in her and joked that their 'grandkid's grandkids' will be riding it well before she ever gets removed. Yay!!!! ???❤❤❤ Well that didn't take long. Bloody vandals ??? On the other hand, the vibrating room still works, just witnessed it in action for the first time ever lol. Took a few people standing inside at the time by surprise ??????

Oh ok, I didn't know about the one in Russia! I think I read somewhere that the super flips aren't so uncommon, but the ones with the bent arm design are. And yeah @themagician, I guess its just business that when rides reach their expiry date, they have to be removed/replaced. But it doesn't help when you grow up with some of them, you kinda grow emotionally attached In this case the Wipeout was the second ever thrill ride I ever went on, directly after the Thunderbolt. I pretty much jumped straight from one onto the other And I have always been fond of its distinct 'screaming' sound whilst it's in motion Might be a good time for all of us to grab some good snapshots of it whilst its still around for us to do so....

I reckon you're right, as from observation the circuitry appears to be on the front underside of it, behind those little panels it has, and yeah, can only be accessed underneath by mechanics when the water is drained out. I'm starting to worry a bit for the Wipeout... I know rides break down regularly, especially when under heavy use during school holidays, but Wipeout seems to be showing its age and doing it a heck of a lot lately. I really hope its not on its way out

Came across another video of Dreamworld from the late 90's which had a few of the old elements, such as the skyway, paddlesteamer, old vintage cars location, Avalanche mountain etc. but also features a lot of new ones. It also shows the original ToT entrance (where the Madagascar rollercoaster now stands) : On a side note, I just ordered a video capture card for my laptop today, which should arrive by the end of this week. So I will convert and upload my old 1995 Dreamworld home video as soon as it does

Yes you can. There should be a 'click to choose files' option at the bottom of your reply box. You can use that to upload them, then they should appear underneath for you to insert them into your post

@red dragin could you not just upload them directly to this site?
