  1. It would seem that renewals get it also Now we know why they had to put up the prices...
  2. that is interesting. The sales portal does highlight that WWW is seasonal, and links to the calendar, but the headline ad shouldn't say that unless the park is open all year round.
  3. They didn't even have station brakes - just a lever connected to the accelerator for the operator to control in station to prevent accidental acceleration. These look like the same chassis, but upgraded. Hard to tell from this angle but i'm assuming they've been converted to an electric drive train. There's a sizeable wad of electronics by the looks of that rear 'seat' box. Cable going up the back of the seat is ugly, leads to a receptacle on the left side of the car by the looks of things, presumably in-station overnight charging? (Note: I'm aware the image i've used is of a plug socket (female) and is not what would be used as a vehicle mount, I just CBA finding a male receiver, but you still get the idea and only electrical folk are really going to identify the issues - but i know there's always one here that does)
  4. Objection your honor, this question has been asked and answered. It's a 'movie set'. Nobody in a cinema can see whats behind the camera. You're BEHIND THE SCENES!
  5. On the contrary, it was a fairly reasonable assumption given your stance on this and many previous issues.
  6. I've no idea, but you'd assume most park operators would have been approached by the selling agent to gauge their interest. That would be enough for the "journo" to write "they showed interest"
  7. You let me know how you get on with the ACCC. All of the phases were all couched in appropriate terms and weasel words. I've no doubt those who go and whinge privately to guest services will get some sort of freebie to shut them up, but they got their value out of the program and its demonstrable by your own words that while you may not have gotten all the features you were promised, you were more than adequately compensated for it already - which is why no further compensation was given.
  8. Luna Park sale: Pubs operator Oscars beat out theme park giant to snap up iconic site
  9. This thing cost $25. The platform offered plenty of discounts and offers that were worth the money you paid. You said so yourself I don't see why they should have to offer you even more value just to end the program. And given what they did to memberships, you shouldn't have expected them to.
  10. It's probably staff costs and keeping the wage bill low. It's probably staff costs and keeping the wage bill low. It's probably staff costs and keeping the wage bill low. It's probably staff costs and keeping the wage bill low. It's probably staff costs and keeping the wage bill low. I feel like we've pretty much been saying this for a while. they might be missing some business, but how much would have contributed towards extra revenue if many of those folk are passholders anyway? Pool and plant operating costs go up, staff costs go up. you need more cleaners, more gate staff, more F&B and Retail staff, plus the lifeguards and other team members that go with operating the park 7 days a week. On days where attendance isn't assured, that's expensive. I think they've taken the view that they can afford to not compete with WNW in the offseason, and while the school dates are a bit of a misstep, overall, there is no guarantee they'd make money this week opening the park up, once all costs are accounted for. I agree with you but
  11. Now that you mention it, I seem to recall Flying Dinosaur had this type of mechanical secondary restraint whereby a pin locked into the restraint after the restraint was checked.
  12. Last day of School is 13th of December and according to the calendar they're open every day from the 13th. I realise most schools are supervision only for the last week and many are informally breaking end of this week, so possibly a little oversight from them there, but the date they've chosen lining up with school holidays pretty much proves it was an intentional decision. There's lots of things our parks do that we disagree with - but that's just our opinions and doesn't make them wrong.
  13. Yeah i'd like to see Dreamworld's hours longer - but the comparison to Rivals is appropriate. If the park's new hotness and lunch takes you 50% of the time it takes to ride MW's 7 year old coaster, do you really need the park to operate a longer day?
  14. I know that, for MACK at least, the seatbelt thing is a manufacturer requirement - this is because if a seatbelt is done up prior to ops check, then their 'push-pull' check is only testing the seatbelt, not the hydraulic locking mechanism. Operations push-pull on the harness to ensure it is down and locked, and then do up the seatbelt as it is only the supplemental restraint. I don't think Intamin is about to revise their procedures this late in the accelerator game, and judging by other reports, it wasn't a requirement at other times. It is plausible that the operator who we're discussing here was having a busy day and accidentally spieled their Rivals spiel instead of their Superman spiel. it's easy to do. They possibly got ribbed for it by the other ops after dispatch. They aren't completely unnecessary, and I believe we've discussed the superman seatbelt previously - the receiver has wiring going to it. Presumably ops can tell if a seatbelt isn't done up. It may only be in the station, but it could also be at the launch track too For Rivals at least, see above. As for the view that "we did it for years, so why change now" - that sort of thinking leads to killing people. If you identify a risk or experience an incident which leads you to review your current processes and decide to change those processes to reduce or eliminate that risk, you should. When you don't, you end up with a home-made ride built in house that relies on one operator to oversee massive amounts of moving parts, with failing infrastructure causing regular shutdowns, and a history of the exact same incident occurring in the past, without taking any actions to prevent possible fatalities that did unfortunately eventuate. Putting it all very simply - All rides have to have a redundant restraint system. Many manufacturers ship their attractions with a dual hydraulic lock - essentially two separate cylinders that both lock, so if one fails, the other will hold. That qualifies as a redundant restraint system in most of the world. Australia however considers that the secondary restraint has to be of a different type to the primary restraint - ie: they can't both be hydraulic locks. The reason why is because of a perception that the potential failure to one hydraulic cylinder could theoretically happen to both cylinders simultaneously given that the equipment is the same age, is put through the same forces, is maintained by the same people using the same replacement parts, etc etc. For example (and this is just a napkin hypothetical, i'm not a hydraulic expert), it is possible that contaminated hydraulic fluid could enter both systems and block a valve or develop a slow leak or similar. While extraordinarily rare for that to happen twice and at the same time, it's possible. Having an alternate locking method that can't fail in the same way as the primary restraint is technically safer as something that can cause one system to fail is unlikely to cause the other to fail.
  15. I don't think most of us can follow what you're on about some times. I think what you're saying is if it shared DW assets, they could open it on a weekday? It still costs the same amount to staff the park and in the off season, they've shown it clearly can't be supported...
  16. To be fair, websites have a knack of being outdated. Leviathan Construction Blog | Village Roadshow Theme Parks (it's good to see they finally took the page down more than a year after the ride officially opened). What you put forward was an interpretation of a shareholder document that others interpreted differently. There was no other public source of information. What we're seeing suggests you were right about that particular interpretation but based on that document and with no other internal source of information, most folk interpreted differently to you, and the information was open for them to make that interpretation.
  17. This close I would have expected them to start pushing a specific opening date. they really must be going down to the wire, but the message still says 2024, so they've only got 32 days left. 10 of those are weekends, and 2 are public holidays. So they really only have 21 working days before the year is over.
  18. I don't think a single night is going to kill Carnivale (though really, Sea World shouldn't host Carnivale - it should go back to MW where it belongs), but I would like to see DW do more night events rather than just night market. kinda paints them into a corner with the markets. they have to keep consistent dates to keep the food vendors coming, but they're then hamstrung on being able to host night events on their big attendance days...
  19. So - I went to: Park Info > Opening Hours > Set calendar to any date in January > "January Highlights" I've just gone back to the site to screenshot and it's already removed, so that was probably something they weren't ready to release yet! haha.
  20. yeah, especially with new attractions slated to open in both the big dry parks, offering an extended trading hours over the summer holidays just makes sense. I see that Movie World has actually confirmed that attractions will operate for the times listed above. The park has previously 'opened' at 9:30 but attractions did not operate until 10, so this change is a step in the right direction for sure and kudos to MW for offering the extended hours. The park does list that "queue lines may close earlier to allow attractions to finish in line with park closing times" and this always catches people out who don't realise many of the more popular rides will be off the table much earlier than the advertised close time. (I would love to see all our parks roster 'closing' staff an extra hour or so, so that they don't have to close the queues early, but this would be a massive extra daily cost to the park and i'm just an enthusiast who wants too much.) As for Dreamworld, they do have night markets on as usual 27th and 28th December from 5-9pm, and their operating hours list 'After Dark' on January 18th from 6pm to 10pm After Dark | Dreamworld though there is no information on ticket pricing, i'm assuming it is an additional cost given the opening is an hour later than regular park close.
  21. You will need to visit the photo kiosk in park - in MovieWorld it's on the right as you walk under the archway. Give them the code and they'll add it to your photo pass. Photos aren't kept permanently though so you'll want to do it sooner rather than later. If you aren't visiting the park for a few days, it may help to contact guest services by email \ online to see if they can assist you, though this isn't guaranteed.
  22. There are of course going to be outliers in any sort of analysis. Most students do some sort of work that fits around studies, and many who don't work are still eligible for Youth Allowance. Foreign students are (legally) limited to 20 hours per week, many others work casual or part time, weekends and night trading and some classes keep unusual hours. We could go on for months and never cover everyone's exact specific circumstances. So it's not a big thing to note, but it is a note worth pointing out for anyone reading. Wait... I did. Likewise the retail worker can also do better than shown too, but again kept the examples fairly simple for a base level comparison. Sorry I should have mentioned that. Oh yeah I did.
