  1. Gee that red text on that red background is just *chefs kiss* /s
  2. It's been a while, they're probably just keeping staff current. I wouldn't hold my breath for it to reopen anytime soon.
  3. QBCC requires the principal contractor to exhibit signage at a construction site, however it is required to list both the builder's name and their QBCC licence number. Most 'mandatory' signs usually contain other details like the contact information for the site manager, etc. There is no law that requires a billboard advertising the contractor. This is just a banner, and is not a legislative requirement.
  4. That was pre-covid. Everything is a QR code now. Also in case you missed it...
  5. Jesus christ. They're literally doing all this construction to improve the first impression. Fuck - California Adventure had blank walls lining Sunshine Plaza for months while they redid the park. Sure, let's work on first impressions but when you're working literally inside the entrance gate, there isn't a whole lot you can do to pretend like there isn't a construction site. ...because this is so much better, right??
  6. At this point this is probably just being ignored because it's annoying folk so much. Perfectly put - I understand it, but it's definitely overblown. Also - the digital experience isn't your first impression of the park, but that globe has been around for about a heartbeat of Dreamworld's lifetime. It is not the 'must have photo' for families - this is: Families lining up to enter the park first thing in the morning line the kids up for a shot under the globe at the entrance. It's as quintessential as the sea world entrance and why we celebrated when sea world removed all that shitty photographer crap from the front entrance The Globe in the fountain is certainly a photo opportunity, but it feels born out of the influencer era - it is something devoid of life - it's framed to exclude other people from the shot so the 'grammers can get their perfect jump selfie. But it just makes it look like the park is dead. Screw the globe. I'll take my group photo on the front entrance steps every time.
  7. But in the same article: this is also at Disneyland This was one day after the ride was closed, and there are a number of areas yet to be addressed. it shows that even the most magical place on earth doesn't do things in a day, so a day of a blank wall is a work in progress, and something to overlook. It's what they finish with that's important. As the saying goes, never show a fool an incomplete job. The stickers that have appeared this morning smack of a 'completed' job and i'm now underwhelmed.
  8. Absolutely - this smacks of "oh fuck, they're right. get something up there" I'd rather they'd waited a week to have full height corflute artwork run off (see Dreamland construction hoarding for ideas) than to have overnighted this cheap shit. Actually - i'd rather plain black walls than this shit.
  9. Your unreachable standards could not be met by anyone. And you're right. it's a tiny detail. But it isn't a critical one.
  10. But it isn't this. Like I mentioned - I called out MW's use of masking tape on the ground and it was pointed out to be standard practice at the big parks around the world. The same here with the fence - it's pretty standard practice. It's lovely to see Dreamworld has improved on this design by building a fence you cannot poke a camera through. Those hedge banners should be burned. How bad is that as your first impression? This. This. This. This. This. No, we can't possibly allow for any other possibility than the day one presentation must be the final product, and judge it harshly and accordingly. /s DW had custom wraps for Dreamland, with corflute boards providing info about the new \ rethemed area. The fences went up on Friday and it's only monday... so i'm with you - there's more to come.
  11. Black walls are theatres version of go away green. I remember decrying the green masking tape on the ground at movie world - and I was promptly shouted down by everyone - with photos of the same tape in use at Disney as evidence that it was perfectly acceptable industry practice. I'm sorry but blank walls are a thing at disney and so this should be accepted as the gold standard. Maybe the sign printers producing the artwork were delayed due to covid supply chain issues? (For me personally i'd love to see Dreamworld get a bunch of local spraycan artists to do a mural type thing over it - perhaps they're doing a special 'paint and sip' session at the night markets? This is all very 'judging a book by its cover' here. I'm sorry Dreamworld. You should aspire to be better - like the park down the road. I'm sure most annual passholders are going for the rides, rather than the photo opportunity. The current construction is literally to bring the entrance plaza back to life as it is presently only used to get from Ocean Parade to Taipan. You first discovered these walls had gone up and posted on Saturday. The thread itself only started friday afternoon. It's fucking 9am monday and you've already lynched them. Your bias is showing.... I'm keen to see what they do this week, especially in light of all this one-man-community-outcry. Heres the 411 though: The industry uses blank construction walls a lot. A lot of the time (and especially when there is a big IP involved) the parks will stick some chracters on the wall, or some artist impressions to build excitement. Hell - in some cases disney only puts some contrasting lattice work in small frames to break it up. But there are so many examples of blank walls out there at all the big parks that I think this is being blown up a tad more than is appropriate to the circumstances. It's a construction wall, not a turn-of-the-century cinema facade. Calm the fuck down.
  12. Spot on - Summer starts in December, so that is the start of the summer season. It's 2+ years.
  13. Yes, I said that Yes I said that They do chase. I said that. Debatable.
  14. If you read the article you posted, it said And then I read where you said And it made me wonder if you even bothered to read the article or just saw the headline (which would explain a lot about your time on these forums) Which just goes to illustrate how much of something you understand before you open your mouth.
  15. I've seen this 'chaser' effect at Knott's Berry Farm on Hangtime and it looks superb (though they have fixtures mounted on the track - different regulatory requirements I guess) - I wonder if Sea World would consider integrating this capability into things like the spooky night light shows in the future - does leviathan have the resolution to do something like this?
  16. Aussie World has two swing rides if I remember correctly - a Waveswinger like the LPS Volare or the Dreamworld Flyer, and 'Booma Zooma' which is a bigger version of Soaring Swing with two rows of seats. I believe 'Soarin Swing' was originally from Luna Park Sydney, dating back to the ghost train fire days. I can't imagine it would get converted to a traveller - not really worth the effort - but hopefully someone sees the value and heritage in it and keeps it going.
  17. You can't expand north beyond the rocky hollow footprint because of Oaky Creek. There's about 1.5 acres \ 6000sqm within the footprint, however as the train and BB Studios are no longer in that area (and blue lagoon is never coming back), you could theoretically expand into all of that space too - which would give you about 7.5 acres of land - about 31000sqm, which is about the size of main street, dreamland and ocean parade combined. There's certainly room for a lot back there - but they haven't started on Rivertown yet, so don't be too hasty - this is probably surveying for a proposed development - and we've seen how many concepts never get off the artist's desk...
  18. I mean, it's a bit win\lose here. Pros Those who take up the offer give them an immediate $189pp on the books right before EOFY. Conversion rate \ Cancellation rate from Memberships means it's likely they'll finally be able to end the membership arrangements, so will reduce administration costs \ do away with debit success. The full ticket price comes to them Cons They've pissed off a lot of long term customers A regularly paid revenue stream has ended Many folk who would drop in, have a beer or a snack, do a ride after work\school will stop coming in regularly - banking the '12 month activation' until there is a reason to visit. The short term opportunity to get additional revenue from these customers is gone. In-park spend will also drop from these guests when they return - the bill-shock of an upfront ticket won't wear off - people will feel like they're paying a lot more for their ticket now - even though for most its only about $40 (though that goes up to $70 after their first year) - simply because its a lump sum single price Overall, i'm sure most members will retain some sort of annual pass. A few will cancel, though to have paid a membership for that long, they'll probably come back after taking a break. Obviously I don't have the data, though it is technically possible for them to identify the converted members to see what their habits are like, it's hard to track in-park spending as there is no passholder discount to link spending to members (a missed opportunity IMO that Dreamworld really takes advantage of with their passholders) - in summary, they won't really know whether this conversion has negatively impacted those guests or not. And they probably don't care. Me personally, I know i'll visit eventually - when I have a reason to. I'm quite sure that the poor handling of this whole process will be in the back of my mind when I eventually return to the park - and it likely will influence what i'm willing to spend in park.
  19. Agree - like - calm down guys, it's May 2023 and there are 19 months left until the end of 2024. A boxing day opening for Rivertown makes the most sense if you follow typical ride openings in Australia, so there's plenty of time to go.
  20. I'm quite sure both of these were posted into the Movie world "fan club" group - both later either disproven or corrected. As mentioned by @Spotty - there are several staff who like to drop fake rumors just to see how far the story will go - such as the "Scooby Fire Eyes" gag from long ago. I wouldn't be surprised if these latest ones were staff taking the mickey out of TPSN and the Fan Club. ...And this is why its always a pretty good idea to take these things with a grain of salt until something official comes from the park...
  21. Legitimate question here - the Superman restraints are essentially the same as the one Gazza posted, but with the red straps. The straps don't actually hold you in? So at best they prevent you from leaning too far out of your seat if you were to try, but they're not doing too much to actually restrain you? How does the ability to move your head sideways about 8 inches improve the ride experience to a scale of 'much better it would be worth the millions of dollars it would cost to do it' ?
  22. I think the point is - neither of them are good, and both of them could do better.
  23. Yeah - aircraft maintenance isn't too dissimilar to car maintenance in that they're generally a mass produced product, with an established, international standard, and national and international governing bodies setting forth the rules on everything. They are orders of magnitude larger, and there are a lot more people with the skills that can transfer between companies and do the same job.
